They do got nice, well-lit outside sitting, but just so y'know, it'll be a lil cramped inside. Service was quick! They don't take names though, so be on the lookout for your order and don't lose your receipt. I got the chicken breast pita and all their pitas come with a nice, generous side of tzatziki sauce, which is a great move. The chicken was absolutely delicious, well charred, and super flavorful. The smokiness of the char pairs delightfully with the fresh crunch of the veggies. I also really liked the pita bread, and the whole thing was perfectly filling for a dinner. In total- $10 which is JUSTIFIED. My friends also got the gyro pita, gyro fries, and the kabob platter with steak and shrimp. All for justified prices, I think, and all super delicious. read more

What has happened to Athens west- sb? There are so many choices of great places to eat and this has always been one of our weekly spots. Will have to think twice next time before going back. We were eating there Saturday night at around 7:30pm and all of the sudden the chefs cranked up the music in the grill area so loud we could not have a conversation sitting in the restaurant. The other problem was that there was already music playing so you had two very different music selections playing loudly. We thought they must have been closing soon and wanted everyone out but they said they close at 9pm. It was a great way to empty the restaurant and we all left. I think the staff thought it was funny but somehow I don't think the owners would have found it funny. Like I said, there are too many great choices of places to eat in sb. My husband and I came in on a Saturday night during a dinner rush. We got through the line remarkably quickly, but there was an understandable wait for the food. Not a lot of tables were available but we were able to snag a spot on the patio. Overall, the vibe was super casual and borderline dive-y; not saying it judgementally, there was some obvious history to this place. We both got gyros (made spicy) with a side of steak fries. The meat from the gyro was super tender and the spicy feta was SO good. The veggies all seemed very fresh, and their tzatziki recipe is top tier. The fries standalone were kinda cold and not the best, but all the toppings made them bomb. The steak on the steak fries was soooo tender, we were both surprised by the texture. The grilled red peppers and onions added a slight sweetness, with a generous sprinkling of herbs and feta cheese on the top. It was a mountain of deliciousness. We will definitely be back! read more

We love coming down to Seal Beach to walk around and try the many restaurants. This is our second visit to Athens West in a month. Got the Veggie platter again ($16.99), it was so good! They accidentally gave me fries instead of the orzo pasta but luckily my husband didn't mind switching with me. The nice thing about eating here is you don't feel super stuffed afterwards and can have a nice walk on the pier instead of instantly going home to take a nap. The only thing I would change is the falafels - they are super hard on the outside and very dark brown. Maybe they've been twice fried. Almost broke my plastic fork trying to cut into them. I don't know if they would do a substitution for more dolma or spanokopita but it doesn't hurt to ask. It won't keep us from coming back. read more

You won't feel transported to Athens when you eat here, but it's a cute little place in an (historic?) old part of Seal Beach that I never knew existed. It's on charming Main Street, which continues into the ocean as Seal Beach Municipal Pier. So it has location location location. It also has a private parking lot, which we didn't know before we arrived, so we parked on Main Street. The covered patio looks out onto the parking lot, so there's no real view, but it's still pleasant to be outside when you're this close to the ocean. I was hoping my mom would try the Lamb-O-Rama just because I wanted to hear her say the name, but both she and my dad went with their typical conservative menu choices. (They don't often venture far from what they know, especially at a new place, and if they like it, they might never order anything else, despite returning dozens of times. Parents!) I ordered a falafel pita, and while everything was delicious, the "design" of the entree itself made it difficult to eat. Don't just layer things atop one another, Athens West! Wrap them. So they can't fall out. Honestly, this one factor really affected my impression much more than I thought it would. My cousin was treating, so I have no idea whether the food is a good value, but I can say that the ingredients are very fresh, and they bring it out pretty fast. The workers we interacted with were very friendly. We were a group of six, and there were only two tables in the entire place, both on the patio, that could accommodate us. It ended up being fine, but in general, this isn't a good restaurant for large or even medium groups. The interior of the restaurant has a strange L shape that makes it feel more like a fast-food place, which it isn't. I would definitely come back, but I don't think I'd order anything in a pita again, and that's too bad, because the pita bread itself was delicious. read more

I'm on a strict low carb diet so while in Seal Beach it was difficult to find a place with good food choices. I always enjoy Greek food so my first thought was maybe they offer a good Greek salad. I ordered the gyro salad and my husband ordered the super gyro pita. Both were very good. My salad hit the spot and was very satisfying. The salad is made with fresh greens, tomatoes, kalamata olives and thinly sliced red onions. They give you a decent amount of gyro meat too. It comes with a vinaigrette dressing which is light and tasty. My husband enjoyed his gyro pita sandwich which was packed with gyro meat plus my pita bread that came with my salad. Staff is friendly and service was quick. The place is small with limited indoor seating but they do have a covered outside patio too. Great food and a great value. This place was recommended by Facebook Foodie Page, so I thought I would give it a try as part of my Mediterranean food extravaganza. I tried various dishes at over a dozen Mediterranean restaurants in a 6-month period. I got the super gyro, and it come with extra meat. It did not disappoint. There was a hardy portion of meat. I felt like onions were a little excessive so I will ask them on the side next time. There is street parking, and it can get a little tricky depending on the day of the week and the time. Very disappointed in the lack of communication and the service, my wife placed an order on the 29th. Order was to be ready, at 3:45. I was here at 3:20 and when I arrived the gentleman said sorry we are closed, they were to close at 3:30 that day! I understand closing early because of the holidays, I don't understand why he wouldn't credit our order. I really can't compare apples to apples here because ILIOS was a full-service restaurant with date night vibes whereas Athens West is more casual. Both have their merits. I ordered the Veggie Kabob Platter. It comes with grilled mushroom, tomato, bell pepper, onion, and zucchini. I appreciate the variety and heartiness of the large chunks of produce. The salad was tasty too. It comes with red onion, cucumber, tomato, kalamata olives, and pepperoncini lightly dressed in Greek dressing. Between the veggie kabobs and the salad, I appreciate the freshness of the ingredients. The fries were a bit under-seasoned but nothing that hummus and/or hot sauce couldn't fix. Located on Seal Beach's Main Street, this casual restaurant was recommended to me by a good friend who is of Greek heritage and told me his family eats here often. So I thought I would give it a try. The interior is small with a handful of booths and a counter at a window facing out toward Main Street. To me the booths and decor had a "fast food" vibe; this is a place to come for the food, not the atmosphere. They also have a nicely shaded parking lot patio. I ordered a kabob plate, choosing a chicken kabob. It came with pita bread, pasta, and a Greek salad. Additionally I got a side of dolmas which are served four to a side. The chicken had that delicious grilled flavor. The pasta was good and so was the salad with its variety of flavors (olives, cucumber, tomato, feta...). I really enjoyed the soft pita bread too. The dolmas were fine but nothing special. It was a filling, healthy meal. If you enjoy Mediterranean fare and find yourself in Seal Beach, give this place a shot. read more

After taking a walk down Main St in Seal Beach, we were hoping to find a dog friendly patio to enjoy lunch. With a very limited amount of locations to choose from, we decided to try Greek food at Athens West. A decent amount of covered patio seating was available. As I stood in line to order, I noticed that the only menu available was taped to the counter with the prices blacked out. Because of the line behind me, I felt a bit pressured to pick something quick. We decided on the chicken and gyro wrap. After asking how much it was to add fries and a salad, I was told it was $5 extra. I decided to add fries only and it was suggested that I order the combination that included fries and a drink. The wraps arrived and the chicken wrap was definitely lacking in protein and both wraps were small in size. The gyro wrap was a bit more flavorful and a better choice over the chicken. We were in Seal Beach to chill and walk. We've never really been to Seal Beach before, so we decided to take the afternoon and walk around the pier and main st. We decided to eat dinner here and originally had our heart set on Ilios, which was fantastic but they had closed sadly :( Already in the mood for greek, we could've gone with a usual spot in Long Beach but we spotted Athens West and decided why not. Service was fine and the options were decent. I went against my gut instinct to go with a gyro and ended up going for their fried calamari...mainly because I watched something on youtube about calamari and had a craving for it. Unfortunately (and not really surprised), it's frozen...I wasn't really expecting fresh calamari from a fast-casual spot like this but one can hope. It was served with hummus, salad, and orzo. My family and I have eaten here about 10 times, but never again. We came on a Friday night in person and made a small 3-item to-go order. A few people were ahead of us, but it wasn't crazy busy. Fast forward to 25 minutes later and my kids are going nuts to leave. When I asked about our order, they had to figure it out since it was not listed under our name or a number. Long story short, there were "a lot" of to-go orders from people not there, and our order took 40 minutes. We should have lied and said we were eating in the restaurant, then just boxed it up ourselves since no one dining in was waiting that long for their food. What a waste of time. If you can't handle the influx of orders, don't take to-go orders on Friday nights and treat your in-person customers as important as the ones online. We won't be back. read more

I ordered the Spanikopita plate to go. It was great. The plate had a variety of things like a wonderful Greek salad, and the servings were large and adequate. Parking, especially during busy days/hours can be a little challenging, but this place is well worth the effort. Just wait for someone to leave the lot, and you should be able to find a spot in time. Because this restaurant is a sit down place, as well as a quick order style, you will be able to find what you want to do. There is also an outdoor patio if I recall too. I've been here a few times over the years, and it never dissapointed me. And the location is fantastic, being in the heart of Seal Beach on Main street.
