I have been to this location multiple times over many years. I recently stopped by en route to somewhere else figuring it was a safe bet. The place was clean (including restrooms) airy and light filled. We were seated immediately, and service was fast and attentive, just how it should be. The menu is quite large with many selections. We ordered breakfast, and while everything was fine, it was just that. I don't think anything is made in house (definitely not the corned beef hash as I asked). Fozen has browns. Basically dinner prices for cheap fast food. Plenty of parking in lot.

Mozzarella and avocado omelet, with side of hash browns and rye toast.

Phenomenal. I'm not a huge fan of diners but this one was delish. We sat at the counter because we were in a rush. The food was fast and the service was great. Mary P. was our server and she was very attentive and enthusiastic (which was great for peak hours on a Saturday!). The chocolate chip pancake was cooked to perfection with a solid chocolate chip distribution (iykyk). The menu was extensive and the place is super clean and nice. Highly recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.

My mom and I stopped in for breakfast around 11 on a Saturday morning. They were busy but were able to seat us, and we couldn't believe we were in and out in 45 minutes - it was great! Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and I also have to say this is one of the cleanest diners we've ever been to. Even the windows were sparkling! The strawberry shortcake pancakes were great, and usually I have difficulty finishing a stack of 3, but these were nice and light. My mom liked her eggs benny and hash browns, and the bacon was crispy and had a nice smoky flavor. A solid choice for breakfast on Washington Ave! We'll have to come back and try them for lunch/dinner.

In a word: don't. Lots of other great diners to try in the area. What does "hot meatloaf sandwich" mean to you? To me, it means a steaming open face sandwich covered in brown gravy. What I got was two slabs of cold, dry meatloaf, sitting on dried out wonder bread. Everything ice cold. When I asked, we were told "that's how it comes." It was inedible. When the server asked, we were basically met with shrugs. No one offered to back it out of the bill. Expect a lot more out of a $16 sandwich. It was also really hard to get a coffee refill, and it wasn't a peak time. Go somewhere else.

Been to this diner many times. It's your typical diner. The food is good, but I wouldn't say it's anything special. Service is always prompt, and it's very clean.

After a day of travel, I was in the mood for diner comfort food, specifically a club sammich. I searched around for a club sammmich and Athena Diner popped up! I ordered a grilled chicken club with apple pie for dessert. It did not disappoint and cole slaw and fries that came with it also were delish. If you want yummy diner fare, check this place out!

Go to diner for breakfast lunch and dinner. Great service, good prices, and reasonable portions. Typical Greek diner fare. Breakfast wraps are great as are the club sandwiches. Points for a good coleslaw along with fries.

Very disappointed to be charged $10 for 2 tiny scoops of mashed potatoes to go. Still 3 stars, since I have enjoyed meals here, but felt taken advantage of when I stopped on the way home trying to save an hour of cooking.

Is it possible to give a diner 4 stars?...Yes, yes it is! This diner is one of the few left that is 24 hours, +1. The food menu is huge and the service is fast & friendly. Water is a given, as in immediately upon being seated. The whole place has recently been redone in nice blue tones, even the bathrooms. I love the chicken souvlaki, and that's my go to dish here. Fries are crisp, mozzarella sticks are yum, breakfasts are good, what more can you ask for at 2am?

Jamshed worked in the fishing industry as a young man, but dreamed of working in the restaurant business. He came to the United States in 1989 and worked for a vending machine business. He finally entered the food industry in 2000 when he started "Mughali Foods": a food cart that prepared Indian and Pakistani food. In 2003, Jamshed became the owner of Noor Mahal, an Indian restaurant in Orange, but continued to run the food cart. He sold the restaurant three years later to focus exclusively on the food cart operation. He later dubbed it "Ali Baba's Fusion" and shifted the menu to halal Middle Eastern cuisine. At one point, Jamshed even had six Ali Baba food carts operating around New Haven. The Kalids opened a brick & mortar location in Hamden in 2014. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, the couple cut down their food cart division to a single cart and put most of the focus on the brick & mortar location which was rebranded as "Ali Baba's Kitchen". The menu was also augmented to focus on healthier food options. A second location opened in North Haven in 2025. My wife and I recently ordered take-out from Ali Baba's North Haven location for New Year's Eve. We had previously sampled food from the Hamden location, as well as their New Haven food cart, but this was our first time getting food from the North Haven location. We were excited to try because it's only a five minute drive from our house. The newer location is nice but it is a bit on the smaller side. I would imagine that most of their business is take-out as opposed to dine-in. I ordered the "Bites Chick Bowl" (lemon chicken & beef gyro served on a base of rice & pita strips, topped w/ lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, chickpeas, cucumbers, feta cheese, drizzled w/ ABK sauce), my wife had the "Running Foodie Bowl" (ginger chicken & chicken kebab on basmati rice & pita strips, topped w/ tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, feta cheese, and ABK sauce), and we also shared some "Samosas" (with tamarind sauce and chana masala). As I've stated in a previous review, we think that the food at Ali Baba's is sensational and we plan to order from them again and again!

The food and the person working behind counter was great. I had two delicious meals. I am…read moredefinitely going to return. Highly recommend.

We tried to get in yesterday but it was super crowded and we didn't want to wait amongst a lot of people (too much sickness going around). However, I wish we had gone, because our breakfast wasn't anywhere as good as today. I started with a Carmel latte which was really good. I had the croissant French toast which was utterly amazing! I have to say that I am NOT a breakfast person. I'm not a fan of eggs, but I will eat them and I hate to start the day with a sugar bomb! However, the croissant French toast was a true delight. It came topped with fresh, not frozen sugary stuff, beautiful juicy strawberries, a nice light whipped cream, and a not so sugary chocolate sauce on the side. It did have a lot of whipped cream so I loved that to the side. It was served with syrup but I didn't use any. The flavor of the croissant with the strawberries was enough for me. I barely dipped it in the chocolate. It was delectable! I've also had their Irish Benny on another trip which was amazing and the pumpkin pancakes. There is NO other breakfast place where I cannot make a decision because there are so many delicious items to choose from. And, I know that anything I choose is going to be utterly amazing. Their portions are big and their prices are very fair for what your get. I felt like I had a whole pint of strawberries on my croissant. My husband had the meat lovers omelet with oatmeal. He said everything was perfect. The staff is very friendly and very attentive. This is a typical breakfast place. It's not fancy but friendly and clean. And everyone seems happy! The kind of place I like. You have to get here early or you'll have a wait. I say the wait is well worth it. We went at 8:30 on a holiday and were able to be seated immediately. That's the first time that's happened though. I want to try their lunch, but their breakfast is so amazing, I would probably order breakfast for lunch which is something I NEVER do! If we had this place near us (we're from Philly), it would be the death of me! I'd be going all the time.
