Everything was delicious and fresh. From the water, yes the water tastes good and if you know me. I am picky about my water. Then I had the miso soup perfect warm and delicious. I tried the avocado salad. That is now on my list of best salads ever! I craving it for real!! Then I had the king tut roll. Yummy yum yum. Yes not a single compliant. Oh and then they surprised my coworker and I with a banana dessert that was so cute and yummy too. It was just enough and not too much. The customer service was very welcoming and if it didn't live literally on the opposite end of the country I would make this a regular stop for me!! The place was empty when we came on Monday (Memorial Day), so we got seated right away. We ordered the lava roll, Philadelphia roll and a deep fried roll. The portions were huge! We barely finished it between 2 people. They also gave us edamame on the house. We will probably come back to try their other rolls. read more

Went here with my friends and we had a great time! We were greeted kindly and seated quickly when we came in. The service was great, very efficient. We each ordered something a little different, but all of the food was delicious. We recommend the crab rangoon, shrimp tempura sushi roll, and the hibachi chicken. My friends and I came to Atami for lunch today and had the best sushi. Maggie is the nicest lady ever and made sure we were happy and satisfied with everything we ordered. The lunch specials are a great deal and the hibachi is amazing! We finished our meal with some Mochi! There was no corking fee for bringing your own wine which was great! One of our friends has a shell fish and gluten allergy so the staff made sure they separated our sushi boat to make sure there was no cross contamination. Things to note- -no booze so bring your own. - the waitstaff hate their job/are being held against their will -Miso soup=ass -the waitstaff wclean up around you while you eat which is only unnerving if you go out to dinner for a relatively relaxing experience. -order a ginger ale and have it "refilled" with water. read more

I love how quiet this place is. Probably some of best Japanese and absolutely excellent fresh sushi in the area. Portions are better than all the other Japanese restaurants around here. Most of them skimp on portion. Very friendly people too. Highly recommended! read more

Salmon teriyaki...meh. the salmon alone would have been better without the teriyaki sauce. The sauce was slimy/gooey and was too thick. Kids ordered steak and shrimp hibachi dinners: fried rice were both overly seasoned with soy sauce causing the rice to be completely dark in color so much that it was not edible. Miso soup was luke warm; wish it was hot. Husband enjoyed the tempura dish. The salad that you can get with your meal was also good. Fresh, cold and the ginger dressing was refreshing. Pork gyoza was good. Dad liked the sushi and spicy tuna roll that came with his lunch special meal. We did appreciate the complimentary edamame that they gave us on the house during our visit. It was salted nicely and boiled correctly and was not old. Some places serve old edamame and they did not. BYOB - they do not serve alcohol. What is sushi without Japanese beer or sake? Bummed about that. Side note: They will be closed on Tuesdays due to staff shortage according to the sign. NOTE: The staff were not Japanese so do not expect authentic japanese cuisine. I was also presently surprised by the additions they added like the crab slaw and an additional roll which I loved and another surprise . It's clear to me they take a lot of pride in their product . Our only negative experience was customer service related and it was so horrendous that we will not be returning or ordering from there again. We came here after the end of a long trip looking for an establishment that included both a hibachi and sushi option and ended up here. Many of the items that I wanted (fatty tuna, uni, etc.) were not available, which was upsetting to me. I would have rather had the waitress inform me of the choices that weren't available as opposed to placing my entire order only to find out what I requested couldn't be fulfilled. That said, the sushi I did receive was fresh and decent. Was it out of this world? It was not, but I the pieces I did receive were perfectly adequate. My friends seemed to enjoy their hibachi, but we weren't aware of the fact that the hibachi was prepared in the kitchen, not live in person. Would I come back? That's a big maybe. I would try other sushi establishments in Scranton before coming back. I would definitely recommend going to Mayuri for lunch, as it is a fantastic place to eat. read more

Just ate hear for the firs time after reading the reviews. My future wife had a sushi craving but there aren't a lot of good options in the Lake Ariel, PA area. We decided to drive the 40 minutes to give it a try and we are glad we did. It's located in a shopping center and a hidden gem. $2 for ALL bottled beers and $8 for uni make this place a steal. The food and service are excellent. It has a nice ambiance but is very casual. If you're looking for good Japanese food at very reasonable prices then this is the place. read more

Red white hot sushi special - cucumber, avocado, topped with tuna and white tuna, jalapeño, cilantro, and spicy sauce. Overall, the roll was a little wet, i.e. too much sauce and the rice not sticky enough, and lacked a little flavor. Probably really good for the area, given limited choices for sushi. read more

We've been getting take-out from Atami regularly since Akita closed in Clarks Summit. (I believe that Akita relocated to the Shoppes at Montage. Presumably, it's the same ownership, but I'm not sure if they have carried over the same menu.) The things that I liked about Akita are the same things that keep bringing us back to Atami, including a few rolls that we really like, as well as a very friendly staff. They remodeled the dining room recently, and it looks good. My only complaint there is that there is just one door that opens right into the dining room, and it gets cold inside during the winter when there's a lot of traffic in and out. Constructing a second door inside as a buffer to the cold would be a great idea, albeit an expensive upgrade. No big deal for us, as we've only eaten in once. I like the rainbow, lady in red, ying yang, optimistic and zen rolls in particular. Hibachi shrimp and vegetable hibachi are also very good. The main issue with Atami is that the food is inconsistent at times, as it was at Akita: Really good when they're on, and not so great other times. Example: We ordered take out this week, and had a bunch of rolls that we've had before. On this particular visit, on of the rolls that we got was the optimistic roll, which comes with sesame, wasabi and avocado sauces. Both the wasabi and avocado sauces, which are normally a nice compliment to the roll, where inedibly acidic and possibly had gone bad. They tasted entirely different than they'd been any time before. I was home already, so nothing to do at that point but throw the sauces out. The roll itself was good. The size of the rolls varies a bit from one time to the next. This week, one roll clearly appeared smaller that we've gotten many times in the past, but still ok. I think a little bit more attention to consistency and quality control would help them out a lot. I like the fact that they post weekly specials on their Facebook page, including w/pics and descriptions. Again, the staff is very friendly here, too. A good place that could be even better with a few small adjustments. read more

Gotta love Atami. The staff here are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. They're very congenial, pleasant, and very respectful. I brightens up my day walking into this place. Also, the quality of the food is excellent. You'd think NEPA (Northeast Pennsylvania) would be not a great spot for sushi, but this place defies the expectations.
