We ordered a ravioli starter, spring rolls, and a beautiful shrimp dish they were all delicious. We ordered surf and turf for our main meal. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the grilled shrimp were delicious! The waiter was a delight. He was knowledgeable about the menu helping us. This Thai fusion restaurant is now open. It has good decor and atmosphere and delicious food and its own small parking lot. We enjoyed our meal. Prices per plate range from reasonable ($20) to high ($40). The menu is limited, but Clark's Summit is probably too small a market for a huge variety. I do not know if there is new ownership or change in chefs, but the quality as well as what used to be great flavors has disappeared. First off it was quite cold in the restaurant when we went, secondly, some of the food was ok but others lacked what the typical flavors were previously experienced. I'm not a frequent patron at Formosa. But I live in the town. Everyone I know who has eaten there always has a great or good review. I have had a few dinners here and the food has always been excellent. They will go out of their way to please you. As the waitstaff is very concerned with your enjoyment of the food. Fusion Asian cuisine for the average American. We have lived in the area for about four years and today was the day we made it to this restaurant. Positioned right on the main drag we've seen it every day while driving around town. Locals only have good things to say and we'll join them based on our visit. Very nicely decorated restaurant with lovely ambient jazz music. Food was well presented and tasted delicious! Only complaint was that we didn't have the most attentive waiter. This was disappointing. The service was excellent. We were seated right away. The waiter showed up within minutes and was very attentive the whole time. The food just wasn't that good. Overall it just lacked seasoning. The chicken satay was bland except for the grill taste. The peanut sauce tasted flat. My salmon and my wife's chicken were cooked well but just had no flavor. I travel for work so all I do is eat out. The environment is nice with faux plants and all. Service is good. Very intimate. I got the lobster and my girlfriend got the curry. The sauce was good but the quality of the meat is sub par. The chicken was under cooked and had a very rubbery and rough texture. I drove 25 minutes to get here and was disappointed for sure. Nice plating, attentive service, great ceiling. This Italian restaurant has the endearing quirk of giving some of its dishes Asian sounding names. Sincere in its aspirations to fine dining, it manages formal earnestness, backgrounded by an explosion of faux foliage. While looking like authentic Shumai, the garlic bread appetizer starts us off strong. The chicken fingers (perhaps destined for a Caesar salad in another life) were speared, and had the original twist of a peanut sauce accompaniment (order under the name Satay). Perhaps most interesting were the soups. They smelled of fusion, yet mysteriously tasted authentically Italian. This hybrid breaks new ground. And finally: Reaching for the sweet and spicy of Thai, the syrupy calamari Pizano salad explores new territory: the Dessappetizer. The dish that bridges that elusive gap between appetizer and dessert. Or should we call it dessantipasti, allowing one to safely skip the primi and secondi altogether. ....and that ladies and gentleman, is how it's done. Mood, meal, value, service. Spot on. To be completely honest, I didn't think restaurants like this existed up here. No offense to anyone form these parts, I think I have a pass to say that as my hubby is from NEPA (Northeastern PA). We came for a date night on a Friday at 9:30pm and the place was empty. We were hoping that wasn't a sign. It definitely wasn't! VIBES: The place is beautiful, from the dragon head oversized door knockers, to the ornate ceilings, fresh bamboo on each table, dark bar and detailed archways. The ambience included candles on each table and mood music, you know, the kind you hear during a cocktail hour at a wedding that is kinda cheesy, but gets you all mushy with songs that include instrumental versions of "Unforgettable" and such. It got me feeling all the feels. Yea, perhaps a tad out of place, but it added to the romance which is exactly what we were looking for being sans kiddos that night! SERVICE: Our waiter James knew the menu backwards and forwards. He knew the specials with every detail by heart and every dish I question, he answered immediately with the ingredients it contained. Not once did he have to run and ask the kitchen. He was absolutely on point with everything. He made great suggestions and you could tell he really not only loved his job, but cared about your experience. DRINKS: Water was brought out immediately as were the fresh lemon I had asked for. They have fairly extensive wine menu offering both bottles and by the glass. I mean, they even have Veuve! Hello?! About a dozen or so creative cocktails and Asian beers too. We started with Blushing Geisha (St. Germaine, pomegranate juice, lime and sake) and a French Pear Martini (St. Germaine, pear vodka and champagne). I preferred the Blushing Geisha, it wasn't as strong, but definitely hit you a tad later as sake often does. Just $9 a drink! Honey, we're not in Philly anymore! FOOD!: The menu has something for everyone and with words like champagne saffron sauce and truffle reduction, I knew I was in for a treat. Keep in mind this is "fusion" which we really love. Prices were very reasonable... Whole lobsters for under $30. Noodle dishes for about $14 or so. Currys for around $12. Soups under $5 and steaks about $24. Hubby was starving. He ordered the seafood ravioli special with shrimp and lump crab meat, topped with more lump crab meat in a white wine sauce for an app. He said it was absolutely delicious. Buttery and soft, 4/5 ravioli served with two crostini. He also ordered the chicken satay which he said was great and that the peanut sauce was perfectly tangy. He then, if you can believe it, ordered the chicken Pad Thai (giving me his bean sprouts of course. Nothing healthy for him, thanks). He said it was the best Pad Thai he's ever had and he eats a lot of it. He was VERY, VERY happy with everything!! I was intrigued by the mushroom lemongrass soup, but it was in a chicken stock. They had four different varieties of just lemongrass soups alone! I was also curious about the papaya salad, which usually contains fish sauce. It did. Whaah. I then glanced over at the actual vegetarian meals and I was pretty happy with the choices....vegetable pad Thai, stirfry eggplant, vegetable curry, stirfry tofu or Thai fried rice. I went with the curry and it was so, so good!! So very fresh, the vegetables were still crisp, not mushy. The tofu, while yes, fried, remained light and airy, yet still had a crunch. It was served with a bunch of fresh steamed bok choy and fluffy jasmine rice. James brought me over crushed peanuts as I had asked and extra chili oil in case he thought I needed it. Awesome. I had them make it a tad spicy vs mild and it was perfect without the oil, but nice of him to initiate giving me the option. It was probably best the apps didn't work out for me. I didn't really need it and had leftovers of my main meal anyway! Despite it being so close to close to closing time, James did not rush us even when we asked for the bill while we were still eating so he could get out of there quicker when we were finished. Not only would he not bring it, he said to sit and enjoy and if we had never been there before to get a coconut ice-cream which they just finished making. I mean, what waiter would suggest you stay longer on a Friday night just so you can enjoy a treat! He brought it out and my husband said it was the creamiest ice-cream he had ever had! That it was delicious and light, not too "coconutty" with a perfect crushed peanut addition on top. Despite being full, he was really glad he had listened to James. Save room for some if you can! You will not be disappointed! We were so pleasantly surprised with this entire experience. I even got a high five and a "nice work babe" as we left. Thanks my fellow Yelpers. You did well by us. Had a very delicious and refreshing Asian salad with Ginger dressing and basil and crisp bean sprouts. For the entree the curry filet mignon was cooked perfectly and went well with the fresh bell peppers and basil and steamed white rice. For dessert I had a fried banana that was crisp on the outside and gooey on the inside topped with a marvelous bananas foster-like brown sugar/butter sauce and peanuts with a homemade coconut ice cream gob. Not what I would consider Thai food at all. My partner and I ordered a few appetizers and main courses. The red chicken curry and red duck curry were not what we expected when ordering Thai food. Both had the core components but weren't even close to what you would get at other nearby places... ahem.... Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. Delicious Asian-inspired food. I am the "guest from hell" with my gluten and lactose intolerances and allergies to tomatoes but every time I have enjoyed dinner here I have a fantastic, flavorful meal that is not over seasoned, tastes delicious, and made with what tastes like high-quality food. The service is excellent too! Mike is always pleasant and attentive. Atmosphere is pleasant and low-key, nice wine selection to compliment the asian cuisine. Love going here over and over again. Finally got to visit Formosa - not sure what took me so long. It was later in the evening on a weekend, so we were able to walk right in and get a table. We sat in a booth in the dining room, which is stunning. The lighting and sound level were perfect (but as for the sound itself, which was the "Watercolors" station on Sirius... c'mon, it sounds like what they play on the Weather Channel during your local forecast). I started off with a Singha, and we split two appetizers - the spring rolls and the seafood lemongrass soup, and both were very good. The mussel in the soup was quite large. My entree selection was a special that evening, grilled shrimp on sugar cane skewers over rice and vegetables. It sounded better than it tasted, because I was actually expecting something a bit more zesty. To their credit, the waiter did suggest something else when I asked for something that would be both spicy and sweet. On that note, the service was excellent. They employ some foodservice veterans that I have also experienced at other fine establishments in the area and it really makes a difference. For dessert, I had a frozen limoncello flute which was delicious. I was also able to sample the coconut ice cream, which had awesome texture but the coconut flavor didn't really stand out. Yikes! This review is purely on my first impression which was so bad I didn't stay. The moment I walked in with my mother the woman behind the counter stared intensely at us. I tried to smile to hint that she was being a little rude and nothing. No smile, no break in gaze. Then a man showed us to a table. He held the menu out and looked annoyed as my mother took her coat off and put down her purse. She noticed and said "sorry you can put that down if you want, I'm just getting settled. He placed it on the table without a single word. He spent another 10 minutes at our table clearing wine glasses with a miserable look on his face. When we brought it to their attention the man became very condescending. The woman said nothing and just stared. Had two closings this week and wanted to celebrate. We hadn't been to Formosa in a while so we decided to check it out. Sooooo glad we did. Everyone enjoyed their meals (a rarity in my family) and the service was wonderful. The carmelized salmon was phenomenal!! At the minimum, our 15th time at Formosa & I'm finally writing a review! When I made reservations for mom's 80th, they told me to make sure I pointed her out to them when we arrived...how nice. We had a party of 7, mom & I arrived early to have a yummy Grey Goose dirty martini. The greeting we received from Wayne, Sherrie & Brad was so warm & inviting we ended up chatting for 5 minutes before we even thought about sitting. The apps we had included the lemon grass soup, fried calamari, spring rolls, steamed dumplings & the special shrimp raviolis topped with caviar in a sauce too good not to slurp! Difficult to choose between the calamari (have had it on 5 occasions, always cooked perfectly) & the dumplings...& the specials. Main course of Ginger Chicken, Veggie Pad Thai, Garlic Chicken, Ginger Shrimp and desserts of coconut ice cream & something chocolate (LOL, sorry wasn't paying attention) was delicious. Everyone in our group loved their meals. The atmosphere is casual; dress up or go in jeans...or have cocktails at the bar (thursday night live jazz band...our table loved it) & nosh on some apps. It's such a cool place. Not only was our server Brad wonderful, fun, charming & knew the menu inside out & backwards, but Wayne checked on us as well. And having Wayne as our server on previous occasions I was disappointed he wasn't serving us tonight but Brad pulled it off in spades, Wayne was marvelous, checking on us since it was such a special occasion and Sherrie is a total delight. We went here because of the ratings on yelp- and we were disappointed. I really wanted to like Formosa and maybe we just caught them on a bad Friday. Slow service, mediocre food, poorly cooked fishy smelling shrimp. The Pad Thai which should be a slam dunk was heavy, overly sauced, the noodles all gummed together in a big pile. The chicken satay was good, Thai iced tea was predictably good, Crispy honey mango chicken was just 'eh'. I am sad to say I was disappointed- Won't be back. read more
