A smoother In-n-Out shake. So good. Lost Lily's * Vegetable fried rice: 3/5. A bit bland, but it's less greasy than most others that I have tried. * Pork dumplings: 4/5. Tastes fresh. Cute food hall inside 900 N Michigan shops building. The floor contains multiple restaurants (though some are currently closed due to increased COVID numbers). You can order on a touch screen and mix up choices from different restaurants which is definitely nice! There is seating on the same floor, but if you go up 1 floor there is a nice seating area with a bar to order coffee and/ or alcohol! The seating is arranged nicely as you can choose between a booth, tables, couches by the window with nice views outside, or a seat at the bar! Oh Aster Hall. So I've been here a few times here's the deal. Obviously the small cheval burger is very good. I think it's not as good as their locations in Wicker and Old Town as it doesn't have the same amount of care... that being said it's still quite good. Another favorite of mine was the pesto pasta. Have been going here since their inception. Supported them during covid. My family and I visited two weeks ago for a birthday cocktail for my 80 year old mother. Stopped in for the first time last Christmas. It was also my first time in a Bloomingdale's. Takes up most of the 5th floor of the building. Was pretty amazed at the concept of ordering and paying by "kiosk only" and then going to pick up your food at one of the different restaurant choices. The kiosks are in the open area of the main floor. Pretty darn efficient. The choices include, stir fry, pasta, mexican, waffles and chicken, lobster mac n cheese, burgers, hot dogs, pastry, chocolate, sandwiches, salads, and more. So many great options when you're craving a little bit of everything or you're ordering for people with different tastes! My fiancée and I had a great experience ordering takeout from Aster Hall and I definitely could see us doing it again. Being new to Chicago, I had heard a lot about Au Cheval burgers so I'd been dying to try one and I was finally able to thanks to the Small Cheval in Aster Hall (hey, that rhymes!). I ordered the cheeseburger and chose to pay a bit more to get bacon, tomato, and lettuce on there. I considered asking them to remove the onions, but I decided I wanted to taste it the way they had intended it to be. Looking back, I did feel like the onion flavor was a bit intense so next time I will opt-out of the onions. That being said, the burger does live up to the hype for me - delicious and a must-try for all interested! We also ordered waffle fries and mac & cheese from The Rotisserie. Both were fantastic! And I loved how easy it was to add or detract things from the dishes (like not getting chives on the mac). All in all, super great experience ordering from Aster Hall and the food was superb! Great concept in a very high end store collection (I can't even call 900 Michigan shops a "mall"). Enter from the main entrance on Michigan Ave and go to the 5th floor. If you come in from the side entrance on Delaware you need to press the button in the elevator that says shops and restaurants. Then after you get off, follow the signs and take the escalators down to the 5th floor. Kiosk was pretty user friendly coming from a millenial's point of view though the kiosk was just slow at times. I loved the many options that you can order from one machine alone. It was also super easy picking everything up from each vendor station. The flat screens above each vendor station lets you know when your order is ready for pickup which was super convenient. In my haste in wanting to try everything, we ordered a little too much and was stuffed but well worth trying out the menu options. -From the Rotisserie: Truffle Parmesan Waffle Fries - these were really good! Came out hot and crispy, full of the truffle oil flavor and topped with parmesan. -From Al Pastor Tacos: I recommend the sweet corn and poblano taco over the barbacoa taco. The sweet corn one was juicy and flavorful while the barbacoa meat was too dry and lacked flavor. -From Small Cheval: Cheeseburger - the burger didn't look pretty coming out of the packaging but the flavor was bomb. However, there is a roped area for people to enter and wait to use the kiosks to place their order. The kiosks are slow and are not user friendly in the sense that they do not respond quickly to the tap of your fingers. I had to tap multiple times and took a lot of time! While the food options are comprehensive; it appears that much of your bill most likely goes to you actually sitting in the luxurious space with leather modern seats at small tables in an ultra modern mall with Zen-like background music that is set to the mood of changing screens of colors, patterns, and sometimes advertisements for the interior stores on the ceiling. My orders: Small Cheval- A side of French Fries from Small Cheval which were perfectly cooked, evenly batched (with no butt ends) and an opportunity to dip them in Ranch, Garlic Aioli, Yellow Mustard, or Ketchup. Sushi Station- I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Dinner which came with an enormous Chinese Chicken Salad and the Shrimp Sushi. FYI-The sushi was horrible-the rice did not have the sushi vinegar in it and was dry. I ordered it spicy and give a small side of the sauce to put on myself. Drinks- The drinks seem to be operating on the "honor system" and are self-service after you pay $2.75! I came here with a friend for dinner and was amazed by the whole system. You have one kiosk yet you have the control to order from any of the restaurants on the hall. We decided to order a little bit of everything. I enjoyed the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. It was so tasty and HUGE. The al pastor taco was a little dry but still good. Great multi-purpose "food court" area. Seems strange to call Aster Hall a food court, because it feels like so much more, but I suppose that is technically what it is. I've been to Aster Hall several times now, as it's quite conveniently located close to me, and every time feels like a new experience to me. Stand-outs to me in terms of the food include the waffle fries (with free garlic aioli in the condiments area!). The ramen is ok, with one of the broths being too salty for my liking. The tacos were decent-- no complaints there. The elote is tasty, although I have had better in other places. The coffees here are good, fairly run of the mill compared to other solid coffee shops. I think what really sells this place for me is the environment. The seating areas are very nice and the entire area is always very clean. The self-order service is very intuitive and makes the whole process of ordering feel very easy and speedy/efficient. If you go up to the top floor, there's a lounge area that's quite good for getting some work done. Lots of plugs and a good amount of table-space there. (Random, but the bathrooms are nice here too!) In the beginning I thought the food was OK and had varieties to choose from and especially convenient for me. First, their taco is way dry and they have no fast. ESP their al pastor, it's mostly dry and almost burnt most of the time since not much customers are there during the week and when they give me my cut, they don't freshen up the cut, but give me the burned meat. Corn dogs- it seems they don't switch their oil as much as the beginning or he chef changed, because every time we order, it's too burnt looking and the taste is not fresh ( but my son only easts this) Sushi- well, their vegetable sushi is what my son eats as well and in the beginning was great but more and more, there's less vegetables in the roll. This is a great spot to go as a family or with a large group. There are several different restaurants in the food court (a Mexican/taco option, a chicken place, ramen, burgers, Detroit style pizza, pasta, and probably some others I'm forgetting) but you order all at once on a touchscreen menu. It is very easy and intuitive and allows people in a group to choose from a wide array of options. As for the food, I can only speak to the Mexican/taco and fried chicken options. The Nashville style chicken sandwich was excellent. Good, fresh bun that held up to the sauce and the pickles, a generous piece of well-seasoned chicken, and a tasty, spicy sauce that provided just enough heat. I also had a taco al pastor that was very good; wouldn't have minded a bit of fresher pineapple for brightness, but the pineapple that was cooked in with the seasoning and meat added a nice textural element. My friend had chicken tacos and chips and guacamole; I tried the chips and guac and they were definitely tasty. She enjoyed her tacos as well. Swanky space and there is more seating upstairs with a full bar. how it works: 1)make your selections on the kiosk (all the stores menu can be ordered at once so no need to limit yourself to 1 restaurant). 2. Pay with card only (no cash transactions). 3. Take you receipt to each "vault" # printed on the receipt to pick up food. if you want to only get a salad bar, smoothie, or juice, you can bypass the kiosks and go there directly. There's a new food hall in town! Located at the 900 North Michigan Shops, you can find an array of various eateries on Level 5. Picky eater? You'll have plenty to choose from, such as cheeseburgers and chocolate shakes from Small Cheval, salads and antioxidant bowls from Grateful Grains & Greens, pizza from Motor City Pizza, Nashville Hot Fried Chicken from The Rotisserie, pulled pork sandwiches from Green Street Smoked Meats, lobster rolls from Boardwalk Seafood Company, maki rolls from Sushi Station, Miso Ramen from Ginza Ramen, char dogs from Chicago Char Dogs, Bolognese pasta from Lil' Boots, and Chinese casual eats from Lost Lily's. When you get off at Level 5, you make your way to the handful of touchscreen kiosks where you choose your items that you want; you pay with your card, and a receipt gets printed out, specifying where you pick up each of the items. The Hall is split into 2 sections; to your left, you have 2 'Vaults,' where each 'Vault' has about 2-3 of the made-to-order casual eateries. It's basically a window where when your number is called, you go up and show your receipt and get your food. On the right side of the Hall, there are the rest of the eateries that seem to be more focused on the 'sit-down' aspect, like the ramen. They had a preview/soft opening to the public leading up to the Grand Opening (11/23), where the public was able to try some of the items as well as purchase desserts. My friend and I went where we were able to check out their various stations and ordered some items to try! It can get overwhelming with the number of choices they have, but we decided on the Boardwalk Seafood Company's Mac & Cheese (cavatappi pasta, creamy cheese sauce, and a generous amount of lobster), the Shaved Prime Rib Dip (shaved prime rib, Swiss, and natural jus all in an Italian hoagie roll, served with a small cup of giardiniera), and Parmesan Truffle waffle fries from The Rotisserie (could have been more crispier and have more of the Parm truffle topping more generously dressed in layers). I was surprised with the amount of lobster in the mac & cheese, and I hope that they continue to be consistent in the servings! I thought that there would be a cup of the au jus for the prime rib dip, but the thinly-shaved prime were well-soaked; it was a little salty, though. I was a huge fan of the Parmesan Truffle fries - even though the fries could have been cooked a bit longer, there was a free sauce condiment section, offering garlic aioli as one of the choices. Super addicting, but this does run out and the place does have a hard time in refilling it. After stuffing yourself with some savory eats, you can stop by The Chocolate Bar, located in the middle of the food pick-up stations. They offer a nice delectable array of cookies, scones, croissants, mousse, and tarts. My friend and I ordered and paid for the Key Lime Mousse, the Pecan Tart, and the Lemon Tart. The Key Lime Mousse was extremely creamy, delicately airy, and delicious! It had a wonderful tang to it, and super pretty to even look at as well! The Pecan Tart was dark and cocoa-y, and it was filled with a generous amount of pecans. The Lemon Tart had the perfect tartness, and the lemon curd filling was yummy! Don't forget to check out the Doughnut Vault on Level 1 - it's a coffee/donut stand, and they have delicious hot and cold beverages (espresso, chai lattes, etc.), as well as delicious donuts!!! On Level 6, it's space to dine-in, with plenty of tables. All the staff were super helpful and attentive - those who were behind the bakery counter, ones who were slinging out the orders, and those who were at the ordering kiosks to help the customers made sure the answer any questions, provided menus, and helped moved the line along. So far so good. I say check it out it has the Au Cheval restaurant group in there. You've got Doughnut vault on the ground level, and on the Aster Hall, you have Green street and Small Cheval. I don't know why they only had one ramen available at the time? it was a spicy miso ramen? I liked it and it was tasty. We had Small Cheval burger deluxe it was delicious, their fries uh not so much. The place is pretty clean and well organized. It's self-service, self-ordering operation. So if you get an order wrong it's your fault. You can sit anywhere you see an open spot. I did see some guest eating and leaving their trash in the nices booths and well that was unappealing. Throw your trash away after you eat people! It's self-service meaning you also have to probably clean up after yourself. I felt the customer service was attentive and fine. We went an hour before they closed the kitchen it was still very good. Kiosks were easy to use and a plenty on a Tuesday evening. 5th floor offers quick seating options, 6th floor has a cozy lounge with a bar. I over indulged and ordered way too much food. Here's how it went: Parmesan Truffle Fries - delicious and crispy. Snagged some of the garlic aioli from the condiment bar to pair with these. Small Cheval Cheeseburger - great flavor! Like others have said, this one is all about flavor and less about presentation. Shoyu Ramen - ...awful. Had two bites of this, had a friend try it, and had to toss this one. Beautiful food court! I've been to a good number of shopping mall food courts, and this one is by far the best. The seating area is like that of five-star hotels, with guides and assistants walking around if you need help. This Hall also has island-style hand-washing areas, saving your trips to the restroom. Every corner is premium here. I ordered fried chicken and truffle fries. You order your food with an ipad/tablet located on the south side kiosk. Then you simply pick up the food at the respective corner as shown on the screen after you make your purchase. Quick and easy. The food is good too. It's very clean. Ordering at the digital kiosks is a little dis-feng shui, but once you've selected your meal at one of the giant iPad-like stands, the only challenge is figuring out where to pick up your food. There are two or three "vaults" on the opposite side of the mall where you actually go to pick up your food. Service was rather fast, so be ready when the front-of-house expeditors shouts out your order number over the heads of folks trying to eat on the long quartz picnic tables crammed into the pick-up area - there are digital signs inside the vaults that are supposed to show your order's progress, but the type was so small and dim, they were practically illegible. There were some six-person booths, a few high-tops and some individual seating on the main floor, but most of the tables we spotted on a recent Saturday afternoon were littered with empty trays and spilled beverages. There is "fancy" seating upstairs, with low chairs and even lower tables. Strangely enough, when we had finished our lunch and tried to throw our boxes and bowls away, none of the rubbish receptacles in our seating area had openings big enough to accommodate our now-empty food packaging - and there was nowhere to leave the dining trays. (Now I know why all the tables were covered with trash) The $9.95 Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich from The Rotisserie Waffle Fries & Chicken was indeed spicy and surprisingly juicy - the massive, perfectly fried chicken breast came delivered on a super soft roll with a pair of classic hamburger dill pickle slices. The coleslaw was very watery and far too sweet, even for this North Carolina native. The Clam Chowder Bread Bowl ($9.95) from the Boardwalk Seafood Company was the star of the show - the perfectly baked bread came hollowed out with a little lid and was filled with rocket-hot (albeit garlicky!) clam chowder. The folks at our table loved the soup, especially when tearing off huge hunks of the crusty bread and sopping up the creamy broth. The $5.95 slice of square Pepperoni Pizza from Motor City Pizza was certainly unique - the sauce was a bit sweet, and the square crust, featuring a trademark edge of charred cheese, was crisp and wonderfully chewy. Can you guys wipe down at least the booth tables? They're always so dirty. Other than that, the food is pretty good.

I really love the fact that Chicago keeps adding all of these cool food halls. Aster Hall is located inside of the 900 Shops mall on Michigan Ave. You can enter through the 900 Shops and take an elevator right upstairs, or you can go up the flights of escalators if you want the "scenic view" of the mall. Aster Hall has a great glam art deco look. This isn't your average looking food hall by any means. The first floor of the food hall has a majority of the food vendors. The second floor of the food hall is mainly composed of seating and their cafe/bar. The second floor is an ideal place to chill solo or meet up with friends. The food options include items such as lobster rolls, custom salads, desserts, pasta dishes, and countless other items. My favorite food dish is the nashville fried chicken from "The Rotisserie". The breading has the perfect flavor and amount of crispiness to it. For most of the food/drinks at Aster Hall, you are ordering it through a kiosk. I travel to London frequently and Aster Hall reminds me of many food halls in the UK, specifically the one at Selfridge's. The seating is extremely comfortable and very cute. They have a lot of Chicago staples without having to wait in lines! We decided to split a Chicago Dog, a Cheeseburger from Small Cheval and truffle fries. The Chicago dog was a classic, flavors were on point nothing amazing but definitely hit the spot. Small Cheval was exactly the way I've had it, no quality sacrifice and did not have to wait in line! I was so hyped to see that they had Small Cheval here! It is a limited menu though so don't get your hopes up! I would still recommend going to the actual restaurants for your first time experience. Finally, the truffle waffle fries. They definitely delivered on their truffle flavor but I think it must have been truffle oil because it was very overwhelming, also did not think the cheese on top was necessary. love having this new food arcade in the 900 shops. We have visited already three times since it opened a few months ago and I am impressed with the process of ordering at the kiosks, and the quality of the food. It's nice to have a variety to fit everyone's tastes all in one spot. Also, I've noticed the staff are very attentive to making sure tables are cleaned, high chairs are sanitized and spaces are ready and available for new customers to enjoy their meal. Definitely try the fried chicken!! so good. Also the pasta has been a hit for our family. Simple yet done so well. read more

Absolutely excellent food hall if you are staying or visiting the North Side or River North area of Chicago. It's a really interesting design - you order at kiosks in the center of the hall and then each of the individual restaurants post when your food is done. No need to line up to order at each place. I wish: 1. You could do the ordering on your phone: the kiosks were a little wonky and you sometimes had to press several times to get it to work. 2. They posted a big board in several different spots so you wouldn't have to stand near the individual food purveyors to know when your food was upcoming. Kind of like the departures/arrivals board at the airport. See a list of each food purveyor with the "working on" and "ready for pickup" lists of numbers underneath. This comment may not make sense if you've not been here, but it will when you go. For the owner: I tried to email this to you but it wouldn't go through: I don't want screens at EACH vault, I want one screen to show ALL of the vaults at the same time. I want to stand in one place and watch one board, not have to run from vault to vault. It's a great idea that just needs one additional tweak: a mega-master-board where everything is displayed so you can stand in one spot to check on ALL of your orders. 3. It were open later. Closing at 8 was a surprise for a Friday night. Even 830 would have been a big improvement. Those are small quibbles because the main event, the food, was very, very good. We really enjoyed our burger at Small Cheval and the fries were perfection. The star of the afternoon, however, was the hot chicken at the rotisserie. It was AMAZING. We went with a total of 11 people and everyone was happy: gluten free friends had tacos, pescatarian son had sushi, carnivore daughter had a burger, french friends had several bottles of good wine and sugar loving friend daughters had superb desserts. Comfortable seating, plenty of chairs, and even a really fun ceiling mermaid show to keep the kids occupied. Parents of littles were in heaven because we got to have great food without the worry of keeping kids super still. A great place to relax, have great food and even some snazzy drinks as well. Aster Hall is a great spot for a casual bite or a cocktail during a day of shopping on Michigan Avenue. Located on the 5th and 6th floors of the 900 North Michigan Shops, the upscale food court offers an airy, light, spacious spot. The design is very appealing with a contemporary 1960s mid-century modern look. The selection of bites is great, offering fast-food-like access to wide selection of tastes, such as Small Cheval burgers, Lil' Boots Italian, Chicago Char Dogs, Al Pastor Tacos, Ginza Ramen and Boardwalk Seafood Company. I was very impressed with the ambiance, service, and drinks in the Aster Hall Bar & Study--the prices were not cheap but were better than expected for a stylish spot on Michigan Avenue. And the tall windows offer nice views of the historic and modern buildings of the Gold Coast. A couple of the restaurants are open early--7 am Monday to Friday and 9 am on weekends. The rest of the restaurants are open at 11 am seven days a week, closing at 8 pm Monday to Saturday and 6 pm Sunday. The bar is open until 9 pm Monday to Saturday and 7 pm Sunday. read more

This review is strictly for the Al Pastor taco I had delivered. I saw the picture and it looked amazing. I fully understand lighting and presentation in marketing vs reality. However, what I received was very disappointing. My AirPod case is there for scale. The taste was fine. It was just a tiny, sad taco for $3.50. The al pastor tacos at Federales are eff'in amazing. I also ordered a cheeseburger from Small Cheval and that was delicious, per usual. read more
