My first time trying Aspen Mills and my review falls somewhere between a 3.5 and a 4. For good measure I'll give them a 4 but jury is still out on this spot for me. I think my expectations for this spot were a bit high as the reviews on here for the most part are glowing reviews and when I found some foodie influencers reviewing this spot on social media, they really hyped up the sandwiches. So much so it finally encouraged me to give this spot a try. I came during Christmas week which I do understand is a crazy week, especially for a spot like this as they seemed to have a lot of breads and desserts flying off of the shelves. So maybe their attention to detail was a little off? I came in to grab a sandwich for myself and my family. Went with three different varieties. I got the prime cut and then ordered the Tuscany and the my cousin Vinnie. My family said their Italian style sandwiches were just so so. I kind of felt the same way about my prime cut but I did like mine a little more than they liked theirs. Initially when I came in I really wanted to try their tuna sandwich with cheese jalapeño bread as this was one of the sandwiches highly reviewed but when I asked the gal about the freshness of the tuna, she let me know they make it every other day. I really appreciated her honesty, which is another reason I'm playing the 4 stars. Some places just BS you or tell you what you want to hear but I'm glad she was truthful to say, every other day. It's not that this is "bad" but with tuna I get weird and only could order it if it was fresh that day. So I skipped. Went with the prime cut which was a roast beef type of sandwich. The prime cut sandwich itself was an overall 3/5. My biggest critique was that the bread tasted super dry, almost stale? Maybe that's the style of that darker bread...I've never ordered it before but it wasn't for me and just made the sandwich a bit too dry, even after getting extra sauce. Despite the bread issue, I loved the rare roast beef and the zucchini was a lovely touch in the sandwich. Unique and I really liked that! Horseradish cream was tasty too, on the mild side but good. Overall the bread just didn't seal the deal for me. I'd come back here but not as a first choice sandwich option. I will say the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The store was clean and good signage for the sandwiches. Seemed like a popular place as lots of people in and out. A cute little perk is that the sandwiches come with a small side of potato salad and a pickle. Love that. The potato salad was actually delicious, 5/5. So random I know, but I loved it and I'd pay for a side of that for sure. read more

Great bakery and lunch spot. Delicious sandwiches and salads. I ordered the Aspen which has a ton of turkey, avocado, and a slaw-esque mix of lettuce and red onions. It's on tasty cranberry bread. The sandwich is filling but the bread is smaller and thinner than what some might expect but it's packing a lot between the slices. Tuscany for the S.O. He said it was meh. Sandwiches came with a small potato salad that we both loved, and a pickle. We also got a Mirage salad which was delicious and I love that it includes chicken. The dressing came on the side and it's the perfect raspberry vinaigrette. It came with a slice of the cranberry bread, cut in half. Also got 2 cookies - ginger and oatmeal. The bread and pastries all look amazing. Surprisingly I didn't love the cookies as much as I hoped. Still good but not something I'd get again. Overall I really enjoyed the food here. While the food at Aspen Mills Bakery & Cafe is tasty, I can no longer support this establishment in 2026 due to their use of an offensive slur on their menu. Specifically, their sandwich board features a "dark Squaw bread" on the Prime-Cut sandwich. The term used is a well-documented ethnic and sexual slur against Indigenous women that has been widely removed from public landmarks and brand names across the country. I personally notified management about this around Christmas time, hoping it was an oversight they would want to correct. Unfortunately, they have done nothing to remove the slur or update their signage. It is disappointing to see a local business continue to use derogatory language even after being informed of its harmful impact. Great sandwiches do not excuse the use of hateful terminology. Aspen Mills is a lunchtime fave of mine! I like to order ahead of time save myself some time. The Newporter lunchbox includes the sandwich, a pickle, cookie, and potato salad all for a reasonable price. The only con is sometimes there is a long wait to order/pay for food because the customers like to play 21 questions with the cashiers about items already listed on the menu. It would be nice if someone can assist in checking out when the line is long. read more

Aspen Mills bakes an outstanding Irish Soda Bread. We make a point of going to Aspen Mills for Irish Soda bread, every Saint Patrick's Day. I was surprised to discover that we were the only one to purchase an Irish Soda Bread at the Palm Desert bakery, this St. Patrick's Day; I think Aspen Mills has to work on their marketing, as I would have expected Aspen Mills Irish Soda Bread to fly off Aspen Mills shelves on Saint Patrick's Day. Ironically, many of our Irish friends said that they never thought of Aspen Mills for Irish Soda Bread. Post Covid-19 Pandemic, I've put a real premium on businesses that excel, particularly, small businesses; I so wish success for Aspen Mills Bakery. The staff in the Palm Desert bakery are consistently kind and friendly. The bakery is immaculate (it's inside Clark's). Always and nice drop in, locals bakery kind of place. YELP SHORT ANSWER: Yes, not large, a few tables inside and limited outdoor seating but the bakery items are excellent. Location: lots of parking, seasonally a Cars and Coffee location which is fun. Menu: very limited but bran muffins are their thing and the drip coffee is pretty good. Quality: pretty okay, nothing super special other than very consistent here. Old School. Waitstaff: could be friendlier as owners if they don't know you but part of the charm I guess. Overall Value: good enough but not inexpensive. I've been here maybe 10 times nothing negative to say. TIP: Cars and Coffee seasonally on Saturday morning 7-9am + loose hours but fun! read more

The roasted red peppers, the basil and the oils on the Tuscany sandwich were extremely unique and so tasty. We also got some coffee which had a great taste, delicious. This is my go to for a quality sandwich or salad place. The sandwiches are all on innovative bread options that look to be freshly made in the restaurant, or likely from a local supplier to the multiple locations. You get a small potato salad and pickle with these orders and if I order via Door Dash for pick up myself or delivery, I get one of their excellent cookies. The salads are all great. Aspen Mills is hidden away off Washington Street, surrounded by the likes of Trader Joes, My Thai, Cinemark - and with the likes of In-N-Out, Panera, and other chain restaurants nearby, you'd be forgiven for missing this hidden little gem in La Quinta. I came in wanting to try something new but refreshing in our desert heat - and Aspen Mills did not disappoint. It's a small, unassuming, yet very charming deli, and it wasn't busy at all, which was surprising because the food was delicious. The menu is very modest, making it very easy to choose an item. I ended up ordering the Stand-by (a honey ham sandwich on New York Rye swirl bread) and adding in a bag of chips and tea. The meal was super simple, but the flavor was all there. Everything from the bread, honey ham, and veggies tasted super fresh, as did the small cup of potato salad that came with it. So the verdict? Definitely a place to try. The newporter is my go to and potato salad is to die for. Chloe helped me customize my son's kid sandwich and was so kind. The one in La Quinta is very identical to the one in Palm Springs everything there is baked fresh daily using only the finest ingredients. Marty has made sure that everything is cooked to perfection and the service is always met with a smile and a great attitude. We enjoy Aspen Mills Bakery when we are in the desert because when we're doing so much hiking it's always a joy to reach in your backpack and pull out a delicious fresh poppy seed muffin or how about a piece of cinnamon nutty bun just what you need to make it to the peak and start your hike back down. I've ordered a couple different sandwiches and they have been amazing. They always include a pickle, a cookie and a potato salad. The sandwiches are generous and fresh, pickles crisp, potato salad perfectly sweet and creamy and the cookie makes sure you finish in heaven. They prices are reasonable for what you are served. Nice bakery in La Quinta that I stopped in to buy some bread. Ended up with a lemon poppyseed cake. That was absolutely delicious. The nine grain bread was also excellent. After going to the PS street fair, I have been wanting to try Aspen Mills Bakery for some time. I found out that there was a La Quinta location and decided today would be the day! I placed a mobile order for $50 and even left a $5 tip ($55 total). I went to the location at about 3:30-3:40 to pick it up and sent my boyfriend in and then went home. Upon arrival to my house and after unpacking our food, I noticed the brownies I ordered were missing, so I drove back to the location where I was given my two pastries, then I went home and went to eat my salad first to find that they never put salad dressing in my order either. Irritated, I called the store where I was told I would be refunded for the salad and the brownies. I said that I still wanted to get the dressing, so I returned back to the location for a third time just for the employees to tell me they could NOT give me a refund because they had already given me my food and because their manager was not in, and then gave me two coupons for free sandwiches instead. Honestly they will probably not be used and I'm not sure that I will be back. I understand that mistakes happen but I spent one hour driving back and forth and not actually enjoying my food AND was told I would get a refund over the phone that I did not get. The food was good but I was very disappointed with my experience. read more

The service is excellent, and the food is tasty, but the portions are not adequate for the price. For a sandwich that is almost $14, I would expect it to be on 2 large slices of bread, but instead the Aspen Mills came on a regular-sized slice that was only 1/4" thick--just barely thick enough to hold the sandwich together without completely falling apart in your hands. I would expect to pay around $9 for the size of sandwich they give you. If you come after 3PM, their regular coffee will often be out, leaving only the decaf. They will brew more if asked, but then you'll have to wait 10+ minutes, which is not ideal if you just wanted to grab your order and run. Plus, the last time they brewed more it didn't taste right--super strong and blech. On the good side, if you have time to stay, they do offer free unlimited refills on the coffee while you're there. Overall, a nice place to get sandwiches, salads, breads, and baked goods with friendly employees, but don't expect value portions for the expensive price. read more
