A family favorite, we've been going for 30+ years and it never disappoints. A classic sub shop that recently got a facelift. That's all that's changed though- that and the prices over the years. Still, it's affordable for what you get and the simplicity is what makes it so good. Service is what you would expect at a sub shop but they're fast. We always get the turkey avocado and everything on it. (Tomatoes, onions and pickles with mayo and mustard). I wish I could have one right now, but it's Sunday. Coachella kids need to understand that this is where there locals eat. Sub King has been a staple of Hwy 111 for decades. They recently sold it to an employee who has been making their sandwiches for 30 years! How cool is that! She cleaned up the look, but kept the menu the same, and why not, it's perfect! We showed up as she was locking the door to close up. I yell out of the window as we parked, noooooo! We came from San Francisco to try some of our old favorite places! The subs are made to order. The large is worth getting as its just a few bucks more than a small, which is a 6", and quite pricey for that size. I shared the Italian Cold Cut and it was delicious on French bread. A 1/2 of the large was "just enough" without making me feel overly full. Simple and quaint. Very clean sun shop, with two ladies working here! The cashier was so nice and clear to repeat your order. The lady making can make a fully heartfelt Turkey meat sandwich. They serve a very solid sandwich here. The ingredients are clearly fresh. I ordered the Italian cold cut. Somewhat ironically, I prefer a hot sandwich, and they told me they could warm it up. I got it in wheat bread. It was delicious! I especially love their vegetable mix that they put in the sandwich. It definitely took it to the next level. I also tried my boyfriend's super sub, which was also tasty (although I'm partial to Italian sandwiches so still liked mine better). They were very friendly and served us efficiently. Tasty subs!! Have been going to Sub King since 94! I have moved out of the area and this was first time back in a while. Got to say that the shop in Indio has since closed down but glad this one in Palm Desert still going strong. So ordered my original go to sun of Avocado turkey and bacon...aka Sub Club #3 and a Italian Cold Cut . Got to say they have never been shy with the avocado. It's not like other spots where they give u a few slices nope!!! They have it mashed up and spread all over the bread roll!! You are guaranteed a bite of avocado eat and every time. Also they use a diced dill pickles as part of their sides not those pesky sliced pickles, but fresh cut diced whole dill Pickles! Was packed with turkey and tasty crunch bacon! The Italian cold cut was packed with meat and cheese and definitely hit the spot... They have a regular and large sized subs. Hard ordered two lattes and ate half of each. Also on a side note that the French roll held up even 4 hours later when we had the rest of the subs. None of that soggy bread you get at other spots within minutes. Def glad I stopped by! Why was I charged $14.00 for the smallest "small" sub sandwich I have ever seen when they're supposed to cost $6.59? I had them add avocado and was asked if I wanted mayonnaise, onions, pickles, and tomatoes, to which I replied, "No pickles and tomatoes." So, I received a healthy quantity of mayonnaise and raw, overpowering onions. I'm also not a fan of their method of chopping their onions, pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce into small chunks, because it all just falls out of the sandwich. There's definitely better and more affordable sandwich shops in Coachella valley. I recommend trying one of those instead. read more

Sub King, such a staple sub shop placed in the heart of Palm Desert that has been a local hub for our residents for decades. There was a time where I would get Sub King cravings because their subs were so tasty and special. They tasted like Sub King lol. They smelled like Sub King. Sadly this is no longer the case. After this last change of ownership they poured their money into renovating its dated interior and took it out of their product. The last couple of times I've went it was sub par but this last time was the nail in the coffin. I got their King club today to share because it's usually ginormous and loaded with 3 meats, avocado, Swiss cheese and toppings. That sadly wasn't the case. After being charged $17 for it, what used to be hard to fit in your mouth to the point that all the insides would start pushing out the bottom from bite pressure and you'd have to figure out an inventive contortionist way to keep everything inside, turned out to be a basic barely filled sub roll with hardly enough meat and avocado inside to taste it through the starchy bread. However, they've added a mediocre Italian dressing that didn't used to be there back when it was a good sandwich, that just doesn't belong on this sandwich at all. It's a club not an Italian. I was sad. Because there will never be another place like it and now it's gone. I'd gladly pay the $17 if it even had $10 of product inside but it was maybe $5 and also if it tasted as good as it used to. I felt ripped off today to say the least. I gave it 2 stars because the sandwich was edible and deep down I will always have a special place for them in my heart. Their potato salad on the other hand was not and it was more like a water potato mayo soup that's why I just could not give them 3. I'll be hanging up my Sub King shirt today and it pains me. Update: Now I'm being argued with by the new business owner lol. I would have loved to respond to him in private but Yelp did not give the option anywhere I could find. So, no Alvaro I've been going to Subking since about 1996, maybe earlier but definitely '96 and your subs do not taste like they used to and it might be because you're using about HALF of the amount of meat and avocado inside. In that time from '96 to current I not once ever ordered Italian dressing on my King Club EVER. I've never ordered Italian dressing on any of my sandwiches there. Yet this is the 3rd time I've ordered a sandwich and received the dressing without ever having asked for it. Maybe you need to talk to your staff and let them know that Italian dressing doesn't belong on the King Club rather than insinuating I ordered it. The issue is on your end, not mine I assure you. Also your discrepancy with my knowledge of how many times Sub King has changed ownership in the last 3 years ... really? Wouldn't that make more sense that there might be more opportunities for things to change rather than stay the same? 3 years is fairly recent for a remodel and however much money was put into that project I'm sure was incorporated into the selling price to the next owner and the following and then onto you, so my point is still relevant that cost would come out of the product because each one of you is paying for it. You're all in it to make money or why would you be doing it? $17 for a sub? Really? Put the product back into the sandwich for that profit. I absolutely hate that I felt the need to write a less than favorable review of your establishment. I love Sub King. I gave this review after the absolute final straw and having given multiple chances for it to be me or just a bad day at the shop. This has been an assessment over time and I'm not the only person who's come to this conclusion. Locals and friends talk. Sorry if my review offended you. That was not my intention. I've eaten subs from Sub King since the mid-90's!! I've also eaten subs (and "hoagies") from hundreds of other places and their subs are the best, hands down! Super easy to place an order by phone or online right now during Covid times. Easier still to pickup the order after you've placed it. My only complaint is that every time I ask them to scoop out the bread from half side, they forget. Every time. And I am upset when I see it, but then I start eating and forget about it, because the subs are just that good. I try and get a Veggie Sub (my favourite is A, which is three cheeses and avocado spread) every time I am in the desert. I love that they chop the pickles into bite size pieces...why doesn't everyone do this? And always get the large! For only a couple dollars more, you get lunch AND dinner. read more

The bread you guys it's so soft!!!! I just got a meatball and cheese sub. It was bomb. My husband got the Italian sub. The only downside I'm going to say to his sandwich is everything is diced like the pickle tomato onion I like just everything cut nice out actually will lay on my sandwich and not fall out with everything I'll bite. And that they put Italian dressing on the sandwich and not just like mayo olive oil vinegar. Yeah if we are back in the area we would go back for a quick bite. I hate complaining because I'm in the restaurant business... but if I feel like I'm being ripped off, I'll say something. As I was being rung up for my small BLT sandwich I noticed it ring up at $13.10. I looked up at the menu board and didn't see one small sandwich listed over $11.99. Even a freaking fully loaded sandwich wasn't over $12. All I got was a BLT. When I questioned the lady at the register about it she said she didn't know and would tell "him" about it. I told her it was deceitful and walked out probably to never come back. I know the economy has people raising their prices, but that is steep. I feel a large should be priced at that price. Finally decided to give this place a try after practically living in the desert for my whole 20 years of life lol I had the small meatball sub with provolone and my friend had the large king club. I used to come to Sub King frequently in between dance lessons when Starlight Studio was just down the aisle. This beautiful angel, Marcy, worked here at the time. How many moons later visiting the desert after having moved away for some years, I remembered this establishment and how much I loved their sandwiches! I was thrilled to hear it was open( my best friend knew what I was talking about. It is one of her favorite spots). We came in and saw Marcy, who is now the owner of it! Firstly, it would've been a 1 star but I'm giving it 2 because the guys at the front were pretty cool. With that said I ordered a king turkey avocado, two bags of chips, a plain turkey bacon and an Italian sub: $66 later I'm wondering why did I do that to myself? The prices are egregious. The meat could've been a better quality, my daughter found a clear gelatin membrane or substance on her turkey and refused to eat the rest. For a $20 Turkey sandwich they should really be more careful with that. I won't be back there's too many other options in the desert and in the nation to spend restaurant money on some subs. So I have been going to sub king since 1992. Best subs ever. Won't be going back since a large sub, chips and a drink costs 23 bucks. I can go to Jensens and get a loaded sub for 14 dollars and they have all boars head meats. Terrible shame the new owners raised the prices 30 percent in 6 months. read more

Update: I am delighted to report that Sub King is now amongst the most AMAZING local food establishments! The new management really turned this place around since my previous review. Everything is now streamlined and avoids mix-ups. Subs taste exactly as subs should! There's enough seating, and they have a TV to keep you entertained while eating. read more
