Okay you've probably heard buzz about a bahn mi or Vietnamese spring rolls but you haven't really had them until you try them here. There's a popular chain of Bahn mi sandwiches where you get plenty of bread and even a fair amount of lettuce but if you were hoping for a sandwich full of meat and daikon and flavor well skip them and head to this place! Only the big boys were finishing a whole sandwich. We had a vermicelli bowl with chicken and shrimp spring rolls. We didn't finish because we got full before the plates were empty. The tastes are bright and full of flavor. The peanut sauce was a hit for the spring rolls and I had both fish sauce and ginger sauce. The fish sauce is to liquid to really cling but what flavor. The ginger has a superb front taste and an ending that brings the heat. Ingredients are totally fresh and quality. Servings are plentiful and prices are reasonable. I may have come on an off day, but this was just okay. The service was kind of awkward, as when we walked in, no one greeted us, the lady just kind of looked at us and continued doing what she was doing. I even questioned to myself if they were still opened, but they were. It was a bit unwelcoming at first. I also think it is ridiculously overpriced. We ordered 3 sandwiches & one tea with boba and it was over $50. For that amount, I was expecting it to be great, especially with the good reviews..it was just okay. They were busy though, so many other people like the place. Maybe we ordered wrong, but the place is called La Baguette. The shop is nestled in the corner with plenty of parking. I love a great banh mi, but they're not that easy to find. Fortunately, La Baguette Vietnamese Sandwiches makes a great banh mi. The banh mi my wife and I ordered was on a freshly baked baquette with pate, mayo, pickled daikon, carrots, cilantro, cucumber, jalapeno and soy sauce. It was really filling and delicious ---- all the flavors came together just right! To complement it, I had the fresh spring rolls --- wrapped in rice paper with lettuce, pickled daikon, carrots, cucumber, mint, thai basil, and verimcelli and served with delicious dipping sauce. The ingredients for both the banh mi and the spring rolls were very fresh. The gentleman behind the counter who took our order and served us was very friendly. The ambiance is nice, but definitely nothing fancy. You're there to eat, not linger. Went to Palm springs for a weekend trip and was stuck in traffic for hours so I was hungry and needed to use the restroom. Did a quick Yelp check getting if the frwy and saw this spot. Was curious if a bahn mi way out in palm springs would be any good. It's a fairly small establishment tucked away in a corner next to a fast food joint. I wasn't expecting non Asian owners, county music, and so many different choices. I got the pork bahn mi to go and a Vietnamese coffee. The sandwich was surprisingly good. I asked for the pate which is an extra charge which may have been extra charge. It's a necessary ingredient in a legit bahn mi so it was weird that you have to ask for it but I guess they have to cater to their demographics. The bread still had a good crunch to it when I got back to the house and the flavors of everything went well together. The Vietnamese coffee tasted like it should and was stong as expected. This is one of the best Banh mi places in Palms Springs! I got the Combo Banh Mi (5/5) that comes with pork belly and ham. It's $13 for one and they load it up with a lot of meat, generous veggies, and you must get it with the pate on! The bread was nice and pillowy on the inside with a good crunch on the outside. I really love how they spread a generous slab of pate and mayo on the fresh bread, then add on huge portions of pork belly and ham. They don't skimp on the pickled veggies and cilantro and jalapeños to balance out the fattiness of the banh mi. I was filled for hours after eating one and it satisfied my craving for Asian food while in Palms Springs. Anyway, they bake their own bread for their banh mi sandwiches on the premises, and the bread tastes good. We ordered the chicken banh mi sandwiches. The chicken was a bit dry. The vegetables and such tasted good, and there was a pate that also had a good flavor. Unfortunately, it seemed like there needed to be more of the food inside the bread. Consequently, the sandwich was surprisingly dry. The restaurant does serve dipping sauce, which we didn't order. If ordering the chicken sandwich, this might be a good approach. If the chicken weren't so dry, and there was simply about 30% more of everything, it would have been a good tasting sandwich. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't really good, either. The restaurant appeared to be clean, and the bathroom was very nicely done, and also seemed clean. OMG! One work to describe this restaurant is surprising. Firstly one can order from an app or online which was nice. Secondly the food is amazing. I ordered a grilled chicken banh mi sandwich and an order of the fresh spring rolls. My food was ready at the appointed time. The restaurant itself was very simple in decor and small in size. Since I picked up my food at 4pm I cannot tell you about the dine in crowd. I initially thought that $27 not including tax and tip was a little steep but the portions were quite large. The sandwich was on a large baguette and it tasted yummy from the first bite. The chicken did not seem grilled to me but it was so good I did not care. Not too salty and the vegetables were so fresh. Needless to say I gobbled the whole thing in minutes. The spring rolls were also fairly large and packed with all the good stuff. There shrimp were more like large prawns. Honestly I have not seen prawns this large is any spring roll so far. The pork and the other items in the filling were fresh and tasty. The dipping peanut sauce was quite normal. Saw the reviews on Yelp and was craving Bánh mì so I drove over to La Baguette. It's not all that hard to find, tucked between a nail salon and a Pollo Loco. Not a lot of seating, four - four tops. Most of the customers when we arrived were taking their food to go. We were glad we had looked at the menu on the website because the menu on the wall was not very helpful. The owner was literally in the process of replacing the menu on the wall with a nice, updated menu, with pictures of all the food. That will be helpful. One of the first things we noticed when we were ordering is that they make all their baguettes in-house daily. The bread is amazing. I ordered the lemongrass chicken Bánh mì. 100% the BEST Bánh mì I have ever had. My wife got the chicken salad bowl and absolutely loved it. The ingredients were all super fresh. I've visited this spot occasionally and my experience has always been positive. The sandwich has always been consistent, up until today. I ordered the beef sandwich and it was clear that the beef cut was not as advertised (prime sirloin flap), or it was a piece gone bad. Definitely a disappointing experience. I'v heard about this place for a while now and decided to come here for lunch the other day. This place is good. Bahn Mi sandwich: 4 stars I think I was persuaded into ordering the wrong menu item for me, but it was still good, and I am looking forward to coming back. I told him I was in the mood for a pork sandwich and asked if the Pork Belly or Combo Sandwich was best. He recommended the Pork Shoulder (Thit Nuong) Sandwich since it had a lemongrass marinade - a popular item. Thit Nuong: 4 stars! Yummy Fresh baked bun, fresh veggies (house daikon/carrot pickle, cucumber, jalapeno, cilantro) house mayo, edamame pate and lemongrass pork. Very good. The reason I give 4 star and not 5 is because I did not taste any lemongrass in the pork. In fact, this sandwich tasted like a regular BBQ pork sandwich sans BBQ sauce.
