Review for drinks only. Overall: great little spot for drinks with reasonable prices, with funky tunes from the dj and a low key vibe. If you check in with Yelp, you get a discount on a premium cocktail ($7 bucks!). I checked in but didn't get a cocktail. I was driving, so I wanted to go with something a bit lower proof. It's a Spanish-inspired place, and they have a few Spanish wines by the glass as well as some others from various global and domestic locales. I asked and received a taste of the Tempranillo. It was decent and I had a glass of it. The bartender was very friendly about the taste, which I always appreciate. Who wants to commit to a full glass when it might not be to your liking? They have a full bar and a pretty long list of craft cocktails to choose from. They also have beer on tap. Asiento serves what looked like a broad variety of tapas and share plates, but I didn't have anything to eat. I definitely would be interested in giving the food a try in the future. Atmosphere: It wasn't very crowded on a Tuesday night, and that was perfectly fine with me. Came to celebrate Pine Street Brewery's 2nd Anniversary at Asiento. Such a cute spot that we have never tired before. Modern Decor, Tables, Benches, Bar and Stools, Live Music, Board Games.. a little bit of everything! Taco Tuesday hosts $2.50 tacos (and $3.50 for shrimp taco), $4 Chips and Salsa, Drink Specials and a kind, peppy Burning Man-going Bartender/ Owner. Mini Tacos are pretty darn tasty. We devoured 3 Pork, 2 Beef, 1 Chicken and 1 Shrimp taco's between the two of us and each one had its own distinct flavor and sauce. The chipotle on the beef and pork was beautifully spicy while the shrimp and chicken had a softer verde to accompany the more tender flavors. All the meat(s) were tender and juicy.. No complaints here! We would come back for some delightful munchies again, maybe hit up Trivia Monday's! read more

It's my neighborhood bar! Super close to my apartment. I went there for brunch and had a pulled pork sandwich. The meat was very very tender. My partner had a chilaquiles. Delightful. I've had other food there, but it's usually hit or miss. They have an good selection of liquor and some very nice specialty cocktails and wines. The on-tap beer selection is limited, though they pick a few quality brews like Scrimshaw. They often have special events (e.g., Star Wars night), but it's never too loud to have a conversation. A friend suggested Asiento as a good spot for my casual dance and mingle birthday party. I reached out to the owner and was surprised and delighted at how easy it was to coordinate this. The bar does not charge any fees or minimums. The owner understands that when someone throws a party here, all incentives align to get a good crowd, which in turn leads to revenue, fun, enjoyment, and just general good vibes. I took over the DJ booth, which honestly was a thrill because the sound system is glorious yet easy to use (I just connected my laptop). The space is set up equally perfectly for relaxing and lounging as it is for dancing. My friends all had wildly positive feedback for the space, food, and cocktails. For example: my partner's comments on restaurant food normally range between "fine," which means edible, and "halfway decent," or slightly better than edible. He lauded the burger here as "fantastic," which is an extremely rare compliment coming from him. The lemon hummus is wonderfully velvety, and the cocktails are delicious - particularly the Adult Root Beer, Smoky Strawberry, Basil Lemonade and Sparkle Pom. While creative, the drinks are not fussy or overdone: just darn tasty. Overall the vibe at Asiento is super fun, relaxed, warm, and happy. Drunkenly jumped into an Uber ride with friends and got out at ... Asiento. Hip little bar in the deep Mission. It's dark, has a small dance floor and a mixed crowd of locals and newcomers. Reminds me of bars in the Lower Haight, where you can dance your ass off, or just chill at the bar, talking to someone new. Be warned, the drink prices are no break. $10 for a basic mixed drink. Tips, tips: Don't be afraid to order an entire plate of the mini chicken tinga tostadas for yourself, you will be happy you did. Do feel free to play scrabble, though it should be noted that the bar's two sets are missing some letter tiles. Don't order cocktails unless you specify your booze if you are over 30. The well liquor is hangover-inducing. Don't sit near the big window if its open and the staff is trying to close it. You'll be asked to move for about 20 minutes. Try to remember to bring cash but if all else fails, they take debit. Always order two plates of the spinach balls. The veggie burger is on an english muffin. This is delicious. On weekday nights with the DJ spinning and the relative quiet otherwise, it can be a lovely place to grab a slow dinner date - or with friends over small bites and with games. Do it! Bit of a wait, but worth it for the drinks. Stopped by for some quick drinks on Saturday, ordered one each of the Cucumber Rosemary, The Good Idea, Summer Affair, and Basil Lemonade between the two of us and wow, what a nice variety of flavors and ingredients! Favorite of the night was probably The Good Idea (twist!), but there might be some bias there if you enjoy a gingery and refreshing drink as much as I do. Bartenders were responsive and nice, though there was some confusion as we were in that zone between coverage by two different bartenders, as they served people around us. The food was tasty but expensive for what you get. The drinks were not very good and also extremely expensive. The worst of it was the server asked me to switch to a debit card when I tried to pay with a credit card saying it was too expensive for them to accept credit cards. Like a fool, I obliged and gave a debit card instead, which I really am not that comfortable doing. When the check came they'd added a surcharge for using a credit card. When I pointed it out, the server informed me that was just how it was, the charge would not come off the bill. I suppose I could have fought it harder, but why? The place is over priced and gouging. Some people are into getting shafted or have enough resources that it doesn't matter. It's not the place for me and I just hope I can save similar people the disappointing experience here. read more

Review solely for the bar. This is a great place to hang out. The bartender is super nice and would offer suggestions, and they have some good cocktails (on the sweet/girly side) for you to start with. I believe asiento means seat in Spanish. There are seats inside here, so I guess my high school spanish is still as good as ever. Boom Anyways, this is a quiet bar that is a great place to sit down and relax. We came here after visiting a sports bar during some college football games, so the environment here was definitely welcomed. They have a great bar and cocktail list, but I really wished I didn't eat so much dinner because the menu here looked/sounded sooo good. This is my favorite neighborhood bar! First of all, the bartender made a hella good mocktail for me ( Just because I'm pregnant, doesn't mean I can't go to bars!) We have tried: Thai spring rolls- refreshing. Queso fundido- this is so damn good. I went back after work once just to order this to eat and then left. Crab cakes - a little bit on the dry side. Some sauteed shrimp- the flavor was really garlicky! I like it. Lemon hummus- decent. Guacamole- I devoured this in seconds! I felt bad for the people that came later because this dish was all gone before they arrived :x. Overall, I loved almost everything! Trivia on Monday's! They prefer cash. Fun drink list and full bar. The food they serve is tasty - but tapa sized. - Queso is good, but greasy. - Burger is excellent, but should probably be called a slider. - Guacamole is great, but I wish they gave you more chips. This delightful place is off the beaten path in the mission. They often have live DJ's spinning tunes. Drinks are tasty and decent. The small bites are much more delicious than a typical bar's offerings. The have interesting artwork on display that I guess is changed out occasionally. What I like as someone visiting from New York City is that this place doesn't have the typical "douche-bag" feel that several other San Francisco bars seem to have acquired. Found this gem on Yelp when I was trying to find something in the Mission district. We wanted a bar type setting where we can listen to music, get good food and maybe a drink or two afterwards. Asiento hit all marks.  We ordered a few drinks and some tapas. My friend had the basil lemonade and craft beer. The lemonade was sweet, and was not overloaded with alcohol. If you like it sweet you'll definitely like this. And for the food: **Tinga Tostadas: Tasty. And quite filling. Very flavorful chicken, with a hint of spice. **Queso fundido: yummy, gooey cheesy goodness with homemade chips. I would order this again. **Bocadillo: These are like mini tortas. Tasty, and I suspect the chicken they use is similar or the same as the tinga tostadas **Gamba. Four giant pieces of sautéed shrimp with crunchy bread slices. Delicious, the sauce it was cooked in was awesome.  There was a DJ playing Saturday night, and he was mixing a good mash-up for old and new hip hop and pop music. He was better than some club DJ's. Besides parking being a huge pain in the ass, it was a great time and would definitely come out again. read more

I came here for Monday night trivia and the trivia was great! Otherwise, wouldn't want to come here again. The physical seats/stools/benches were uncomfortably close to the ground and felt cheap/empty in their support. My table was a coffee table so eating dinner/my meal from it was awkward. They take cash or debit cards here, no credit cards. My bartender was probably the rudest person I've interacted with since moving to the city. For me directly, she didn't bother checking my debit card herself and told me they don't take credit and gawked when I told her it was a debit card. She then rudely questioned me when I said I wanted to close out when she wanted me to open a tab. For my friend, he asked about some of the drink options and then she ignored his questions to defer him to the drink list. Absolutely no service. Side eyes and all she was flatly frustrated by him asking very simple questions about specific offerings so he could figure out what he wanted. If it wasn't for the trivia I would've left right there and then. He asked about soup sizes and she decidedly answer "we serve tapas, it's a tapas portion". Well what the hell is a tapas portion! Turns out, it was a bowl of soup that is easily describable with a hand gesture to outline the bowl circumference - like what normal people do to give context of a bowls portion. She just decided to be rude about it. Later on another bartender came out and she was great - attentive and kindly answered whatever. Food was pricey for what you get (s/o to the veggie burger). DO NOT get the bar olives. They're marinated in a jar behind the bar and while they might have been tasty before, they're very soft now and unpleasant. So, I have seen this some place else, wide open space, feels like you are entering some ones home, sofas, and coffee tables instead of chairs and tables. In tha background tipica playing. Very minimalistic. Yes, it was in Buenos Aires. So, at best this place is a decent imitation of the real thing. I like that they have tried to create that laid back atmosphere, I like the location right in the mission, on one of my fav streets(Bryant st). There drinks are pretty decent, I tried 2 of their specialty cocktails, and actually got a discount($2.50 off) because I checked in using Yelp, the pomengrate something something and salty pisco punch, was Ok, I wish they were stronger...We ordered their cheeses and olives plate, again wish it was bigger(the real thing is). I'm feelin' this spot! I've become somewhat of a night owl over this summer (maybe it's my circadian rhythm...or maybe it's becoming unemployed, who knows!), so when I went to look up a cool casual bar/lounge that served food on a Saturday night, Asiento popped up. Lo and behold, we pulled up and I was like "Hey, I remember when it was Cosmos (I think that was the name) years ago." By all accounts, Asiento is a sweet upgrade to its predecessor. It's dimly lit, very Mission-cool, casual, and if you're looking for a full bar with cocktails, beer, a small but decent wine selection, they got it down! Couches, bar seating, and communal table seating. You walk in, order your food and drinks at the bar, sit down somewhere, and they serve it. If I had anything negative to say, it's that they don't have actual printed menus (you have to look at the chalkboard or the little handwritten board that's on the bar). So it's kinda inconvenient. But the FOOD! Just what I needed at 11pm on a Saturday. I forgot what time they stopped serving, but boy was I happy to just be somewhere other than Beretta for late night bites. *DO NOT MISS the Spinach Balls *Lemon Hummus is amazing *Beet Salad is super fresh and delicious Other than that, I just wish I had pictures to share...But let's just say that I'll be back! read more

I went here with some friends on Friday night for dinner and drinks and we were pleasantly surprised! The cocktails were ALL so good, we each tried two and all of them were tasty and smooth! We ordered a bunch of apps - Meatballs, Guac, deviled Eggs were my favorite. They also have vegan options that are tasty. They had a live band that was pretty good, board games - we played connect 4 - and even chatted it up with the owner who was super sweet and personable. First impressions lie. That is the gist of my Asiento story. The first time I went here was for a nightcap after a long night of drinking. My friends and I were driving around and popped into the first bar we saw. It was last call and the place looked pretty depressing -- dark, quiet, and empty except for a few stragglers at the bar. A very forgettable experience. Thanks to another random nightcap a few months later, we happened on this place again, and it was a completely different experience. Subdued lighting bathed everything in a warm glow. This time, I noticed the spacious seating area, the comfortable leather chairs, and the DJ dishing out the disco. I didn't want to mix my liquors and already started the evening out with wine, so I wasn't able to sample the cocktails. What really got me was their tapas menu. Delicious! Queso Fundido with Chorizo - Traditionally served with Oaxacan cheese, Asiento's version uses five different cheeses for extra richness and flavor. It's hot, ooey gooey, cheesaliciousness mixed up with ground chorizo that comes with some chips for dipping. Sooo good. Gambas -- Plump, fresh shrimp cooked up in garlic, olive oil served with slices of bread (perfect for mopping up the plate). It was really good, but I was a little disappointed that it only had four pieces of shrimp. That seemed rather stingy to me, even if it was tapas. Calamares -- The squid was really fresh and soft, cooked in a mild sauce and served with bread. Also very good and although it was just as small a portion as the gambas, it wasn't as glaring because of the way it was served. Mixed Sausages -- Assorted sliced sausages with a mustard dip was pretty much what it said it would be. I'm not sure what sausages they used though. Everything we ordered was a hit. We enjoyed our drinks, the service was great, the music was great. Asiento had a fun, energetic, non-pretentious vibe that I really connected with. I'm so glad we gave this place another chance or I would have completely missed out on this awesome neighborhood spot. read more

One of Mission District's hidden gems! I used to go there all the time before I moved away. Now I'm moving back and I can't wait to visit again. The bar itself has a very intimate but open feel, with dim lights, high ceilings, and nice natural lighting throughout the day. Although the tapas are great, I recommend you visit this place if you are looking to snack on something while you have a drink, not necessarily for dinner. The 5 stars is definitely based on the local being a bar, not a tapas restaurant. That being said, the food is pretty good. You should definitely try the queso fundido with chorizo and the deviled eggs. And of course, the cocktails are even better. There's also a lot of entertainment options. Not only is there a bar and a high top table area, but there are also couches where you can sit and play board games with your friends. Bookshelves contain a good number options for you to peek at. I remember I spent one night going through a huge Atlas book with my friends. That time was actually a Tuesday night, and they had a DJ playing chill electronic vibes and it was perfect for the room. Asiento will have more chances to get more stars, but I've taken some time off. It's nice to have a cool bar in the neighborhood, but a few missteps have kept me away for a while. Good: Good drinks, decently priced beer, and the food is delicious. Bad: The food is priced so poorly it's almost a joke. As I noted above: the food is delicious. Truly. But here's my story: I ordered the hummus. Good dish of hummus comes with 6 pieces of sliced baguette. Like, Safeway-par toasted baguette slices. 6 pieces of bread, slathered with hummus, is not enough to finish the dish. So I ask for some more bread. $3 for more slices. I'm not going to just LEAVE the hummus there, so I go for it, if a little transparently incredulous, because Bonnie says "it's fancy bread." I guess fancy bread means Safewayish baguette toasted with a drop of olive oil on it, because only 6 more pieces came. Really? It was no more than $2.00 for the baguette, but I'm paying $0.50 PER SLICE? Look, I appreciate that it's a new place, and they're trying to get it off the ground. But they've got almost everything going for them: great location, cool interior, fun people are there, great drinks and food. Have a little patience and let those things bring in the profits, not gouging me for several 50 cent slices of bread when there should have been more on the plate in the first place. End rant, I'll be back someday and reconsider. read more

Good selection of drinks and atmosphere, can't comment on the food (didn't have any), but I'm gonna knock off a star b/c the service was really intermittent. We were sitting right at the bar but had a lot of trouble flagging down the bartender (which switched several times) to even get refills or pay our bill. Plus they have this weird policy about not taking credit cards (or something) but taking debit, but holding on to your credit card if you want to have a tab... So confusing and unnecessarily so. I know merchants hate that they get charged all the feed for credit cards, but they undoubtedly make more from folks who can't really afford to be buying what they're buying, but use a credit card to stretch themselves, than they generally would going all cash. What's not to love here? The tasty and inventive-without-going-too-far cocktails? The reasonable price points? THE YELP CHECK-IN SPECIAL? For all those reasons and more Asiento has become the first bar I think of when its time to get my drink on. I've been there now with friends from out of town and locals from across town, and the feeling is unanimous. On our first visit the bar was hosting the Balboa High Class of 86 reunion, and the music was all 80s (and all awesome--I'm a sucker for a good musical theme). Even with the crowd the bartenders were nice and efficient and the room never felt too crowded. On my next visit (while waiting on a table at Flour+Water: put your name on the list there, pop over to Asiento and have some drinks, and then head back) the bartender remembered me, hooked up my drinks, and my friends and I all got seats. On a Friday night around 10. In short, I'm currently scheming on how to get over there for drinks tonight. Because I want to go there all the time. And the guacamole rocks. Get some. read more

I didn't try the food but it's a cute little wine bar with decent drinks. My favorite is the Basil Lemonade which does not taste alcoholic at all. I also tried the Pomegranate Kiss, the Cucumber, and Car-a-lado (sp?). The Pomegranate Kiss was okay though I'm not a fan of Orange Vodka. The Cucumber was the worst - definitely not a girls drink of choice. If you like whiskey, you'll probably like the Car-a-lado. Behind a crazy Starry Night mural - you'll find a great neighborhood bar with a chill vibe and seriously YUMMY food! My friend had her birthday there and they arranged with her to have her own CD play while we all enjoyed a Special that she got to pick out. What was crazy is that she picked a Mango Mojito which was super time consuming for the bartenders - but they made them all night with smiles on their faces....at a discount! The owner saw that the bar was bumping and called in extra hands to help...where you'd usually see an owner trying to keep the costs down - she really wants the customer to be happy! In return, they made great tips and also found themselves charming new customers to come into the bar at the same time. Along with the amazing drinks - they have great tapas-style food which is packed with flavor at reasonable prices!
