The three A's: Asian food, Anime, alcohol

I've lived in this area for almost 10 years and never been here. It's definitely a bit misleading and confusing as you see the prices on the front of the building before you even walk in. It always seemed a bit too expensive to me. I've been to all the other shops in this strip mall, but finally decided to take a chance on it. Definitely a hidden gem, hole in the wall place. Lots of food for a good price, portions are plenty big enough too. The service is good and they are friendly enough. I'll remember this place next time I'm wanting Asian food!

Haven't been here for years so after yoga tonight, feeling like some beef broccoli and called in an order! Was told 20-25 minutes so took my time driving there. Love wonton soup so added that on to my combo meal and glad I did! Lots of veggies, broccoli, cabbage and a few carrot slivers in with chicken and wontons. A meal by itself! I had a bit and saved the rest for another meal. The combo meal I ordered was more then enough for two people with beef broccoli, chicken chow mein and fried rice. Now onto flavor, a little on the bland side so I added some pepper and soyu to beef it up!( I'm seeing a trend, maybe it's my taste buds!) Definitely satisfied and will be sure to order again! One of the few Chinese restaurants in North Valleys. No eating in, all the tables were removed so take out orders only but close to home so no worries! Cheesy decorations but hey this place has been here forever!! Check them out, prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get!!

It's been a while since I've ordered from here, and I was really in the mood for soup. As always, my go to is Wor Wonton Soup when I need something hearty. The soups initial temperature typically is hot as hades so the walk a mile home in 40°F weather actually proved useful and everything was a proper eating temperature. The broth was flavorful and required no additional seasoning. The usual ingredients were inside except one; and can be there one time and gone another so expect a little inconsistency on repeat orders. Sliced beef was missing but not a deal breaker. Time from order to receipt of the order was longer than expected at about 45-minutes but worth the wait all the same. They've condensed the menu a bit since COVID-19 began their journey into a busy local business that tries to please their customers as best as possible. I wish some of their previously popular items were still available, like their egg foo young, but what they do have on the menu is decent enough to stay a loyal customer.

I came here once and just knew that this place not only had quantity but also top quality chinese food. Compared to the other local restaurants Asian Wok tastes the best in my opinion and ill keep coming here as long as theyre open. No matter how long the wait is for your food, be patient because its definitely worth it! Shout out and thanks to Janet and the staff for all the good food!

Great place with wonderful food and prices. This is your total to go Chinese food spot. You can only take it to go. They give you plenty of food and it is always tasty. I like that they use white meat for many of their chicken dishes and the pork fried noodles are made with really lean pork marinated in a char siu seasoning. I ordered Kung pao chicken, garlic chicken and pork chow mein. My family enjoyed all the dishes.

I was out in the North Valleys and craving Chinese food again, haha. I decided to return to a place I first tried in 1997. And I was not disappointed! I have been to the Asian Wok in NW Reno, in recent history. And I loved it. So I wanted to go back to the one in Stead. First of all, the staff was friendly and helpful. Even wished everybody a merry christmas! Talked to everyone who came in. There wasn't a big crowd, but a few people there. I ordered crab rangoon, general's chicken and shrimp fried rice. The meal takes a little bit to cook, but thats okay! It was made just right! The chicken was huge pieces and meaty! Lots of rice with lots of shrimp! There is also a great collection of wellness tea to drink! Recommend if you are in the North Valleys!

Asian Wok is a good place to get Chinese, especially since there's no other option nearby. I will say, it's kind of obnoxious that there's no delivery option, even with Post-Mates or anything like that. Now, I'd never say this was top of the line Chinese, but it is perfectly fine. It is good even. It satisfies whatever Chinese food craving you're having, and for SUPER affordable prices. I got 3 entrees and an appetizer for just over $30. Fed 3 full grown men. I'll 100% be ordering from them again. Perhaps even more regularly if they start delivering once more.

Ok so...the Pork didn't thaw in time to cook some Stir Fry so we decided to have some Chinese take out. We normally do Egg Roll King in a pinch, but wife wanted to try something new. She was driving so I left it to her. My wife always orders the most Americanized Chinese food. That just what she does. Though I enjoy more Mainland Chinese foods, it's easy to compare these foods she ordered. Here is what we ordered: Generals Chicken Bricolli Beef House fried rice Potstickers Chicken chow mien Sweet and sour pork Vegetarian Delite All at around $55 dollars. I give this take-out a solid middle of the road rating. Though nothing was bad, nothing stood out either. The pot stickers were ok. The battered meat was heavy on the batter. Chow mien was almost taste-less. Add some soy sauce (light) and our own home made Thai chili sauce and the food was bearable. It tasted about the same as the Chinese food you get in the UK, bland. So if you like Americanized, bland Chinese take-out...try it out.

The portions were generous with plenty of leftovers to pack up in takeout boxes for enjoying for another day. My favorite three were the ahi tuna, the black cod and the brilliant asian/french mash up of red Bean Creme Brulee. I also need to mention, I loved the lamb tenderloin. I am not a big lamb fan, but this New Zealand lamb was tender and non-gamey. The owners did an outstanding job of timing the dishes and engaging with our group while also taking care of other diners including non event patrons getting getting take-out and inhouse menu dining. The space is very small, but even with and almost full house, it didn't feel cramped. Even though Kwok's is right across the street from where I live, this restaurant would be at the top of my list of "I would drive out of my way to eat here"

To start, you can't go wrong with the enthusiastic welcome we always receive. Then quickly seated and wine poured. The 2026 CNY menu was fabulous, with some great surprises. The ahi tartare portion anywhere else would have been a shareable appetizer. But each person was served a large portion of delicious fresh ahi. Mmmm this course and a glass of wine could be dinner alone any other evening. The soft creamy rich egg custard was hidden under a thick seafood gravy. I really enjoyed this unique dish. The miso black cod is always flaky and delicious. And the crab fried rice it's nestled on also never disappoints. The rich New Zealand stir fried lamb and shiitake mushrooms over pea shoots was a fabulous hearty dish on this chilly March evening. The braised short ribs were so tender no knife was needed, they flaked apart with the fork. And the e mein noodles were perfectly al dente. The dinner wrapped up with a crème brûlée that only Kwok's could pull off - red bean. Creamy smooth. Not overwhelming. The perfect burnt sugar layer on top. The regular menu is just as delicious. Small inside seating area, so recommend always make a reservation. In the summer there's a fabulous patio area out front. Limited street parking.

In case you're not aware, though the name of this restaurant references a specific city in northern China and the menu has dishes from across the country, their specialty is the spicy and numbing cuisine of the Sichuan region. If you've never had this before, when you see dishes listed as spicy, they may be very different from what you're thinking. It's certainly can be a polarizing experience, with many loving this flavor and many not into it at all, but the broad menu makes this a great call for everyone. Now I love dining with others who are familiar because it lets you explore the menu through their eyes and enjoy selections made by others with taste diverse from yours. My friend picked several dishes I would've never noticed or ordered blindly this time, and I'm so happy about that. We enjoyed the cold Woodear or black fungus in chili oil, classic snow pea tips with garlic, as well as the quintessential Sichuan cumin lamb, but the other three dishes we had were 100% new to me. Those included Sichuan snails (unshelled in an oily spicy stir fry), scallops with garlic and vermicelli, and crispy spicy intestines. The snails were a win. These are small and somewhat chewy morsels that get wok fried with fried chili, chili oil, peppers and onions. The texture is similar to sautéed calamari, but a bit firmer, and the sauce coats everything with that signature numbing heat. The scallops were the big miss. This dish typically comes in the half shell with fresh scallops, but here they're using a lower quality scallop (likely frozen) and a lot of pre-minced garlic (like you'd find in a jar). It looks impressive but the scallops had absolutely not flavor and the texture was rubbery too. Skip this one for sure. The intestines were the surprise. I've had fried intestines and they crunch like a chip and have no distinct flavor that lets you know what you're eating. These were sliced on the bias and wok tossed until super crispy on the outside with a delicately chewy interior. The sauce really amplified the flavor and this all made for a great bite within the whole meal. All in all, this is a home run. If you haven't been, I urge you to check it out, as it's one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants around.

Tucked away in the back of an unassuming shopping mall is Chinese cuisine well worth making a trip for. I was immediately greeted when I entered, and started with some hot tea. I ended up ordering Garlic Cucumbers and Dry Stir Fried Pork Intestines. The cucumbers were light and refreshing with a punch of garlic. The intestines came out crispy and piled high with red fried chilis and szechuan peppercorns. I am a huge spice nut and this absolutely hit the spot! (If you have a low spice tolerance you may want to ask for less spicy as the server did not ask how spicy I wanted it). The cucumbers were the perfect accompaniment to balance the heat and numbing from the chilis. When I first looked at the menu, I thought the prices were a bit high. After seeing the enormous portion sizes, it all made perfect sense. There was easily enough for 2 full meals for me (245lb, 6ft3in man with an appetite). The portions are clearly designed to be shared. On that point they also feature traditional Chinese style banquet seating with the lazy suzan in the middle for family style eating. All told I was extremely impressed with the food quality, service, portion sizes and ambiance. I will absolutely be adding Shanghai Bistro to my regular rotation!

The appetizers were amazing. The meal comes with spring rolls, crab rangoon, paper wrapped chicken, and honey glazed BBQ spareribs. Everything was delicious. My wife loved the paper wrapped chicken, and for me, the ribs were the standout. They were tender with just the right hint of sweetness. Honestly, I could've eaten a full plate of just those and been happy. For sides, I had the egg flower soup, which was really flavorful, and my wife had the salad. She could not stop talking about how good the dressing was. Both the sweet and sour pork and chicken were great. The sauce had that perfect tangy, slightly sweet flavor. That said, next time we probably won't order the same sauce for both dishes. I think pairing something like sweet and sour with kung pao would give a better balance with a little heat to cut through the sweetness. Overall, this place is a winner. Great food, solid portions, and the price is very reasonable at about $33 per person for the Shanghai Dinner. My wife enjoyed everything so much that after seeing another table order the duck, she's already talking about coming back to try it. I've been trying to get her to try duck for a while, so I'm looking forward to that next visit. We'll definitely be back.

It has come to my attention that for the last 31 years that when I am craving really good authentic…read moreChinese food, I automatically go to PDJ. When some asks about bona fide Chinese dining that I always suggest PDJ first. The experience is sit down, formal, and shockingly consistent. The service level makes you think you are dining in this families home. The food is still the star of the show. The Peking Duck and Seafood Birds Nest are highlights. In reality, no matter what you like and spice level you are comfortable with you can't go wrong here. If you want to impress your lunch date, colleagues, or treat your loved ones, bring them here. The parking lot is cramped and gets busy during peak times. Thank you and congratulations on more than 35 years in Reno.
