My friend and I ordered this to be delivered through UBER Eats as we were at work and could not go get it ourselves. When we got it we were disappointed with just the presentation alone. The chicken fried rice that we received looks almost plastic and the sushi (Eel Roll) I got seemed to be alright at first glance but when I went to eat it I could tell there was little to no eel in the roll. It was mostly rice and cucumber. After eating a bite or two I couldn't stomach anymore. You could blatantly tell the rice, cucumber, and especially what little eel was in it was NOT fresh. I found myself in Bartlett today and stopped in Asian Star at someone's recommendation. I was surprisingly impressed. Service was fast and attentive. I ordered sushi and it was very fresh and tasted great. One other party had General Tso's chicken and said the chicken was amazing, but the fried rice wasn't the best. And the other party had the beef and broccoli and loved it. The egg rolls were also delicious. Large portions for a good price. I get it. You can definitely eat cheap here. The owner is awesome and always brings out something for us to try. We've been here several times now and I hate to say it but it's just o.k. I really want to like this place but I have to call it like I taste it. The lunch menu would be a bargain if the quality of the food was better. The Orange Chicken, General Tso's or Sesame Chicken is almost always cut into very small pieces and is hard and overcooked. Twice out of the 7 or 8 times we've been here it was nice sized chicken and was tender and cooked properly. The Hibachi Chicken and Shrimp is good but nowhere near the quality of Tokyo Grill over on Summer. The Fried Rice is good and I wish they gave you a little more with your order. I would be willing to pay a few dollars more for lunch if the quality was better. I can't enjoy my meal if I can't hardly chew it. The best food I've ever had from here is when we had it delivered to our office. It was only the second time I had food from Asian Star and I could not believe it was from the same place. My first visit here I had General Tso's and it was not very good. It was cut small and overcooked as described above but when we had it delivered it was nice size pieces and tender and juicy. Everyone loved it! We ate at the restaurant the next week and it was just as good as when we had it delivered. Sadly on the next several visits the quality we experienced the prior two time had gone back to the way it was on my first visit. The sushi we've tried has been good. There were a couple of times the wasabi was discolored and strange looking. Service is great. The owner is always checking on us and bringing out something special from the kitchen for us to try. The same waitress has been there every time we've been there and she takes great care of us. I really want this place to succeed. They are all so nice here and hopefully they read this and correct some things. I once attended a Breaking Benjamin concert in 2003. Back then there were more people waiting to get into a Chilis on a Friday evening than people who attended the concert. How does this story relate to a new hole in the wall Chinese/Japenese restaurant? I don't think that not too many people have gotten the chance to experience its greatness and it sure does have a lot of potential. The decor is random but I didn't go to experience flashy/neon lights and a fish tank. Instead I went bc of the other reviews and they were all right. I went with the beef lo mein and the taste was authentic!! I've been to China at least 15 times so I'm familiar at what tastes authentic and what doesn't. I also decided to give their sushi a try and that didn't disappoint either. What was even nicer was that one of the employees wanted me to sample his sushi special and gave me a sample. Not only did it taste great and in some ways brought me back to China but it's not too expensive either. However, I ordered two different types of sushi for two different people and both orders were put into the same tray. While the decor is somewhat strange for an Asian restaurant, don't let that distract you from entering. The food is AMAZING. My husband and I ordered many items on the menu, just to try them, and they were all superb. The meat is "All American," (meaning no strange meats) and everything we ordered was fresh and seasoned so nicely. Also, the cost is quite affordable and the serving sizes are very nice. Between us, we had miso soup, a crawfish sushi roll (8 pieces), chicken lo mein, a spring roll, an egg roll, an appetizer order of dumplings, orange chicken (which had sliced orange rind and was delicious) and fried rice, and shrimp and broccoli with white steamed rice. Ok I'm a PICKY Chinese food person like really picky! This place omg best beef lo mien, it's been a long time since I've had great beef lo mien but this place nailed it right on 1000% tasted just like my uncle's recipe, the egg roll was great as well. I will be definitely returning to Asian star for my Chinese food. Wish I had know about this place when i was pregnant! I just wish they would deliver to me that's the only minor issue I have. We were in the mood for dumplings, our regular place was closed, so we tried this. I wish we had of waited till tomorrow when our regular place was opened. Our food was brought to the table within moments of ordering, so it wasn't fresh. My husband's egg rolls looked like they were fried one too many times. I got Japanese egg rolls and they were cold in the middle. My husband's chicken and broccoli had a great flavor but didn't have much chicken. This place has both a Japanese and Chinese menu, AND they offer delivery! So for a sushi lover like me, this means sushi delivery!!!! I've had them a couple of times and they're really good! There's only one other place I've been able to get delivery sushi, but the sushi wasn't that great. Asian Star, on the other hand, makes fresh great sushi and their delivery drivers are very nice. I had their spicy tuna roll and the angel roll. I will say there is a LOT of cream cheese in the Angel roll, and I normally really like cream cheese! I have been a patron of this store since the day they opened and I refer everyone who inquires about good Chinese food to this restaurant. I order often, at least once a week, and each order is well over $50 every time and I tip the driver very well because I understand this is how he makes a living. I have never asked for anything free or a refund even when my orders have been wrong. Never complained. However, today my son mistakenly ordered the wrong items. I called the store thinking this would be an easy fix. Was not asking for the entire order to be made over, just correct what was wrong and meet me halfway, Since I am a loyal and frequent customer. I wanted to replace two plain LoMeins with two house LoMeins and I was willing to pay for one and thought the manager would be nice enough to provide the other at no charge. Well that didn't happen! She was extremely rude and acted as if I was trying to say it was her fault , and who was going to pay her driver, who was going to pay for her food, etc etc. and would not let me complete a sentence. Everyone knows that restaurants throw away food every night therefore meeting me halfway wasn't going to greatly impact the food or labor cost for the month. I asked her did me being a loyal customer mean nothing to her but she refused to answer the question. It just goes to show that me being a loyal customer meant nothing to her. I will never order from here or refer anyone again! Not because she wouldn't meet me halfway but due to her nasty and condescending attitude and lack of customer service. Everybody makes mistakes sometimes. Im sure Asian Star doesn't care but you have lost a good customer today! Now I have to say I've never eaten at the restaurant, but I order their delivery on a increasingly regular basis since I found they deliver to my area. But that being said with delivery time and all included this places is pretty darn good. Though most all Asian restaurants like this are in the same sort of ballpark as far as quality and what not, this place shines for better taste and fresher ingredients the most. Which those factors alone make me more inclined to make them a regular go to for my Asian food delivery place. Also they have not only Chinese food, but Japanese, and hibachi.
