Mid-Saturday afternoon, post-lunch and pre-dinner, proves to be a GREAT time to hit the Grand Pacific. No hordes of mewling and puking urchins...you can hear yourself think...no crowds at the serving counters or the check-in and check-out. What's more, all the food is FRESH and plentiful. Their salad bar is small, but has fresh ingredients. Odd, maybe, but I do like to start with a salad, and this is about the only bar in town where you can assemble a real one. There are some oddly placed combinations of foods. Why chocolate mousse (or pudding?) next to spinach, etc. on the salad bar. Why tinned pears next to cooked shrimp? The place was nice and clean, and had a very nice modern look to it. The servers were nice enough when you asked for something( like a refill) and were attentive with taking up old plates of food. The food itself was ok and some things were good and some things not so much. The fried shrimp, egg rolls, spring rolls, and crab Rangoon were some of my favorite things while something like the shrimp cocktail and fried rice could be better .The desserts were pretty bad and most were dry and distasteful, besides an orange colored one which tasted pretty nice. The sushi was ok enough ( my mother didn't like it at all and it does remind me of supermarket sushi, but maybe not as good)but overall it's a pretty decent buffet and if you just craving a classic buffet this is a alright place to go to. I am usually hesitant to going to a food buffet but the quality here was actually pretty good! The service of the people working here was great, everyone filled our drinks, and our waitress was sweet to our boy. They have a cute fish pond in the front with coy fish, which is fun for the kids. The place was clean and organized. Also it's $12 a plate for adults, so very affordable to have a family dinner. They have sushi, and a Mongolian stirfry. Lots of good options. Here is our review of last weeks stop at Grand Pacific. 4.0 stars because the only that we didn't like was that the ambiance is a little dark (tables and carpet all brown) and it needs bette lighting and a little more space between tables. This place is a classic example of quantity over quality. Most of the food has no or poor flavor and texture. We only had to wait about half an hour on a busy Mother's Day dinner time, which wasn't terrible at all. BUT they upped the price to almost $20pp. The servers were quick to take away our dirty plates and refill our drinks. The froyo machine was working when we arrived, but it went dry and they didn't resupply it. The chocolate fountain was also down. The dessert bar was also empty. This is my usual go-to spot until recently. There was a misunderstanding at the front counter not over payment because I paid before leaving the table. I was interested in purchasing a souvenir before leaving. I reached for the items and was told to not touch and he'd get it. The souvenirs are in a turnable display so I thought touching was appropriate. I apologized but he kept talking about my mistake and was irritable so I said it's ok to be kind to your customers. I was told my contribution wasn't much. Never said I paid so I do what I want, just said he could be nicer. I didn't and don't equate the cost of my meal to the amounts of politeness I receive. You already know you aren't getting the top of the line ingredients, but I still enjoyed myself. I'd stick to the hibachi grill and sushi. Those were both stand out in my opinion. Hibachi grill you can always change up your portion sizes and ingredients so it's something new each time. They has a pretty wide selection of sushi rolls. I liked the California roll and the amount of yum yum sauce I used should be illegal. It's so yummy, I couldn't help myself. The rest of the food was hot or miss. The American food was more miss than not. The Chinese portion of it was good especially if you lucked out and got it when they first set it out. It's all about timing with buffets. As you know I'm on the hunt for the best horchata. This was definitely not it but I mean that's on me for expecting more from a Chinese buffet for horchata. The dessert selection was pretty wide. I forgot to save room so I had a bowl of ice cream. They didnt have any bowls near the ice cream machine so I ended up using a soup bowl. Overall it was what I expected. Been looking for a great Chinese buffet and this was a great first choice! There was a huge selection and a station for cook to order food. I was excited to see that had crab Rangoon but it wasn't much filling inside of it compared to its size. The jalapeño chicken with the rice was my favorite item! We came Sunday afternoon so it was packed but we didn't wait for a table, but we did have to wait behind people choosing their foods of course. For a buffet, this place is above the rest. The food offerings are for sure catering to the locals, with some deep fried and Cajun food you wouldn't expect, but still a good assortment of Asian based offerings. The sushi is actually very good for buffet sushi and they keep it coming out. I would give this place 5 stars, but due to the tight seating and the overall lack of hygiene from the average customer, you feel a little uneasy sharing serving utensils with them. It's a ok buffet but the way they harass you for tips is criminal. Like pay your staff because as soon as you're ready to leave from the server to the people at the register they start begging for their tips it's always annoying. A friend and I came to this restaurant Sunday around noon. My friend who is military veteran had been there before this was my first time. I was highly disappointed in my overall experience at this restaurant. The service was horrible, the cleanliness of the restaurant was disgusting(dust, FLIES & GNATS EVERYWHERE), the food was mediocre and everything seemed to be coated in the same red sauce. Watch for gratuity charge!!! Let people know this! Went in for the lunch buffet with my daughter and ordered 2 waters. We never required any refills and didn't need plates removed from our table because we didn't eat much. However, unbeknownst to me at the time, I was charged a 20% gratuity on my card even though I left a cash tip of $4. I signed off on a receipt of $21.93 but later saw a charge on my account of $26.32. That's a $4.39 tip when the waitress never did anything except bring us waters when we first were seated. My grandfather discovered this restaurant a few weeks before I brought him here for lunch for his birthday! He is picky eater and not too fond of eating out so I knew this place had to be at minimal decent. Came here on Valentine's Day. Took quite a while to get a waitress. Had to physically flag one down. I had a couple of nice meals at Grand Pacific two years ago during my 1st contract in Memphis. The food was tasty each time, the service was on point, and that was enough of a reason to come back for more when I was re assigned to the same company. Happily the food is still somewhat appealing, but this last experience kind of put me off. As I was lead to my table, I skidded the last 15 - 20 feet, due to a greasy floor. I noticed other diners doing the same, and said something to my server. Her only response was "I know, I know...". No one ever came out with mop or paper towels or rugs to clean or cover the hazard, so I presume it was a source of entertainment for the servers. It honestly felt like someone dumped a wok of grease along that whole stretch of floor and smoothed it over every square inch for maximum coverage. I went up to the bar 3 times for food and was fearful of an epic spill each time. About 1/2 way thru my meal, after having to catch the back of another diner's chair for support, I decided it wasn't worth the risk - I will not go back. Hopefully it's not an ongoing issue, but the fact that there were so many servers in that area of the restaurant, yet no one made a move to clean whatever oil slick they had going on made me wonder what other cleaning issues might be lingering around. My husband was skeptical about going to a buffet to begin with, but I keep telling him the reviews said it was clean, but boy was I wrong. The floor was disgusting with pieces of food, ice cream smeared, napkins, crumbs. I know it is busy on Saturday night but it was just disgusting. They need to have someone on top of that. Seems like all Chinese buffets get their food from the same source. If you have been to Pacific Fusion (Cordova) than you are basically going to the same place. The food was ok, no better than any other Asian style buffet. What really pissed me off as a paying customer was the way me and my family were treated at the register. I brought a coupon for a free kids buffet and they wouldn't accept it because the expiration date wasn't clearly visible. 1. Either you advertise the same coupon every month, in which case the offer for a free kids buffet is always current. OR 2. You rotate new offers each month, in which case you would know if a free kids buffet was not available in October. It's not rocket science.
