    General Tso's Chicken

Ordered egg fried rice and there was no egg to be found and rice was very bland and the chicken was not cooked in the center was still raw.

General Tao's, veggie friend rice and chow mein with veggies.

I tried the food after new ownership tonight. It's better. The friend rice was fine. Could use a little more flavor, maybe garlic and ginger. The chow mein was good. I added extra veggies. Egg rolls were fine. I asked about the pot sticker but they do not make them in house, so I passed. The General Tao's was not so great. It had too much breading on the chicken and the sauce was just average. Previously I considered the food there unbeatable. This time I plan to try more items. I would plan to do take out. The workers are yelling back and forth to the kitchen so that kind of ruins the ambiance. Service was great!

    Won ton appetizer

Very disappointed!!! We ordered a n appetizer (10) won ton and there no meat in it. The pork fried rice had no flavor . The egg drop soup was the only tasty food out of order.

Another view of the tiny shrimp that menu says are Jumbo.

We decided to try Asian Grill again a few months ago. It used to be our "go to" Asian restaurant but we gave it a break for two years after experiencing a pesticide or chemical taste in the food a few times in a row (might have been whatever they were cleaning their pans or utensils with). On the positive side: no more pesticide taste in the food. On the negative side: we used to get dinner plus a lunch out of the dinner portion. Now the dinner portions have been cut way back and are more like a large lunch portion. Ok, I can accept that. Portion size is on par with many Asian restaurants. Here is what is disappointing and while I will revert back to Moon China in Ocotillo. The thing I like best about Asian Grill was that their Jumbo Shrimp really featured Jumbo shrimp always. A couple of weeks ago, I ordered a shrimp dish and the shrimp were maybe a medium. This week, I ordered and they were very snail, many the size of bay shrimp or barely larger. The menu still says "Jumbo" for every shrimp dish. I took pictures this time. The shrimp both times tasted like frozen, pre-cooked shrimp that was re-warmed. The texture was like shrimp that has been cooked twice. It was nearly flavorless. One had the big black vein (poop sack) in it. I did not eat that one. In the past, it tastes sweet and fresh. I wonder if the owners sold to someone who is cutting back on portion size and quality? Or if a manager cane aboard that made those changes? In any case, I won't be back -- at least not for shrimp if at all. I hope they see this and revert to how they used to be and maybe we'll go back. Photos attached.

It used to be fabulous and one of my favorite Asian restaurants for takeout. They are always very fast and portions are decent.

The sweet n sour chicken, egg rolls and crab puffs were good. My kung pai did not have much flavor. It was spicy with a brown watery sauce.

When we got there the place was small and fairly busy but we were able to be seated quicker than I thought. I was surprised how quickly the food came out as we did order 9 dishes in which all of them were tasty! The server was welcoming and provided proactive service. He was always around to refill our drinks and take any empty dishes off our table. I don't know if we were just all hungry but all the food was yummy! My favs were the stir fry eggplant and minced pork with garlic sauce + Salt and Pepper Fish Fillet. They had a lot on the menu that I have yet to try. Overall our family was satisfied with the dishes we tried and the service was great!

Try these and see what they should REALLY taste like. 10/10 Secondly, the orange chicken ACTUALLY tastes like real, fresh orange!! Not overly sweet and doughy like most places. The flavor is phenomenal. Only thing is, I wish they were a little crispier but I'm sure you could request that upon ordering. Fried rice and noodles are also delicious! First time I got the dumplings there, and second time had them delivered. Equally delicious- which I was worried about. Just so you know! :)

We ordered the Hunan Beef and Moo Goo Gia Pan, also known as Snow White Chicken. The food arrived in about 5 minutes. Both dishes were hot, had a nice aroma, fresh tasting and delicious. The two dishes were served with white rice. The Hunan Beef and as the star with a savory slightly spicy brown sauce. Our server was very friendly and attentive. At first, it came across as a little rude, but I honestly think it was more of a language barrier than anything intentional. There were six of us, and we all ordered the family meal, which includes soup, a giant egg roll, fried shrimp, and your choice of entrée. The waitress kept asking if we were all sure we wanted the family meal, and we couldn't understand why she seemed so hesitant. Once the food arrived, it all made sense- the portions are HUGE. Each entrée easily could have been shared, so we definitely overordered. That said, leftovers are never a bad thing! The food came out incredibly fast, piping hot, fresh, and everything we tried was good. The only downside was that the entire experience felt rushed. We barely had time to enjoy our meal before plates were being cleared and the card reader was already at the table. Overall, if you're looking for a no-frills spot with generous portions, fast service, and really good Chinese food, Yao Fine Chinese Cuisine is definitely worth checking out. Just be prepared for a quick dining experience and don't make the same mistake we did- order the family meal with dishes to share, don't each get individual dishes as part of the family meal.

For years I have driven 25 minutes for takeout and never regretted it. High decor -No, limited selections -No, quiet -No, great food -Absolutely, incredibly friendly and pleasant staff -100%. Our typical order is a large General Chicken with extra sauce and Malaysian fun chow. The general chicken is perfectly breaded, deliciously flavored, slight bite and an uncious taste making you want more. The Malaysian fun chow has wok fried wide rice noodles with a hint of char, shrimp, bean sprouts, onions, veggies and a light but savory taste. Another home run! Don't let the exterior or inside decor persuade your judgement. Hands down the staff is second to none and the food is fabulous. Asian Cafe Express is an incredible value for the food quality and portion size. Trust me, if you give them a shot, you will also be ordering here for years. To the staff, fabulous job and thanks!

A Mesa Asian District Gem Worth Seeking Out…read more Asian Cafe Express is a lovely strip mall gem near H-Mart in Mesa's Asian District, and after 21 years in business, it clearly has a loyal following for good reason. We brought in a fresh lobster from H-Mart to try their "bring your own seafood" cooking option and chose the garlic onion stir fry preparation. It's $14.99 for anything under 2 lbs and $7.50/lbs for anything over. It came out excellent, served over crispy egg noodles with classic Asian flavors and plenty of wok-fired goodness. We also enjoyed the Peking pork ribs, which were deboned, tasty, and slightly sweet; the stir-fried green beans, which were fresh and well prepared; and the garlic spicy chicken wings, which were especially flavorful and highly recommended. The red bean drinks were traditional and satisfying, with soft, nicely soaked mung beans and no milk. Service was friendly, efficient, and personal, handled by a couple of ladies who clearly know the restaurant and their customers well. While we were there, plenty of regulars came in for takeout and several tables were happily dining in. Overall, we really enjoyed Asian Cafe Express and were surprised we had not stopped in sooner. Highly recommend, especially for the "bring your own seafood" cooking option and the garlic spicy wings. We will definitely be back.
