The General Tso's chicken was the nicest surprise - nice quality chicken breast meat. I enjoyed my Thai Fried rice, however the flavors were a bit dull, however, I still enjoyed it. The Vegetable Gyoza was nice and flavorful. The dumplings were plump and delicious. Inside, was dark and didn't look like the dining area was open. When we walked in, we were acknowledged our order was processed and we were on our way. It was a very transactional experience. it's nice there was a parking lot. What a surprise! I was with a coworker in the area looking for lunch. Often to Joshua's, which was out of this world, expensive, a spinach salad for $24.99, a wilted salad at that. I'm not paying $25 for old spinach that you're calling wilted. We saw a little farmers market thing going on in a little park on the walk over to Joshua's but it had ended by the time we realized our mistake and tried to walk back. Then we spot this little hole in the wall. It looked like it was once a gas station Asian food restaurant. The front of the building read: Chinese, Japanese and Thai food. We like all of those things so we headed over and took a chance. They no longer offer table service, but there was a sign that said you're welcome to eat your food inside, so we did. The menu was like any other Asian restaurant, all the staples were there, the lunch specials that include your eggroll and soup, choice of fried rice or white rice. So we ordered a couple lunch specials. And two are surprised it was insanely good. It wasn't like fine dining Asian food, it was more like comfort Asian food. My pad Thai was real pad Thai, it was sweet and it was sour, it was the spice level I asked for! It did not taste like spicy dried peanut butter rubbed all over rice noodles. There was a fantastic sauce to it. The miso soup I ordered was light and refreshing, yet comforting, like something your mom would make. We choose to get takeout and just chill after our last full day in Brunswick ME. This establishment boasts Chinese, Japanese and Thai cuisine and this place was so close to where we were staying; most of the other area restaurants were closed (Monday). We went there to look at the menu and placed our orders. I wanted the beef negimaki special ( miso soup or salad, egg or spring rolls, pork fried or white rice) but was told they were out of that and that was only available as a lunch special. So, I was asked if I wanted the teriyaki beef instead? Well, it took me long enough to decide on the unavailable dish so decided to the teriyaki as I wanted the smaller portion along with the miso soup, egg roll, and pork fried rice. I only found out later that the teriyaki is also not included as a dinner special and was charged for the soup and egg roll and no pork fried rice. Ugh! I also ordered fried wontons and my dining partner choose egg foo young. The wontons were good and all else just ok. While on a New England road trip, we stayed close to Brunswick, ME for a couple nights. Hubby and I were in the mood for late night Chinese. I called Asian Garden about 10 minutes before their posted close time. I asked if they were still taking orders. The gentleman kindly said if we could pick the order up within 15 minutes he would wait for us. Luckily we were! Finally, a Chinese restaurant that knows how to make Chinese food! We ordered two lunch specials, pepper steak and chicken with garlic sauce. It came with pork fried rice and an egg roll. The egg roll was delicious, and not a Polynesian egg roll, it was big and flavorful. The pepper steak steak was tender and delicious. The garlic chicken had the right amount of heat (hard to find up here) and was loaded with chicken. Lunch on a Sunday and the place is full its service was inadequate. We did not get a menu and we decided just to take one to speed up the ordering process. We ordered a pupu platter for 2, chicken lo mein, pork fried rice and crab rangoons to have a little, nice sit down dinner at home. We really liked the taste of everything we ordered and the portions were a generous amount, even enough to have lunch the next day. The cost was pretty good too and the young lady that took my order was very polite. The place was quiet for a Saturday night and very clean inside. From the outside, the building looks outdated, but inside was very pleasant. They also have a small bar. I loved their chandeleir of the boat, so cool looking. I think this place would make a nice date night in the future and if you're looking for a quiet place to have a drink and relax alone or with a friend, this would be a great place to try out. Asian Garden has the best sushi in Brunswick, and that's impressive for a restaurant also serving three types of cuisine (Chinese, Japanese, Thai). Asian Garden doesn't stock the variety of fish that neighboring places offer, nor do they have the most expensive seafood on the menu (if you're looking for live surf clam nigiri you may wish to look elsewhere). What Asian Garden does offer is fresh sushi at the best price in the area: A great buy for lunch is the maki roll special, which is 3 rolls off the menu for $12. If one is looking beyond the sushi basics, there is a long list of special rolls on the last page of the menu, as well as daily sushi bar specials offered. One can tell by the ornate presentation of the sushi that Asian Garden takes pride in their food without being pretentious, I like that. One of my pet peeves is a small sushi roll: Y'know, when you get 4-5 different rolls and they all arrive the same size as the skinny salmon maki on the edge of the plate. Asian Garden has nice proportions of fish to rice/vegetables plus the fact that I can pick and choose from different ethnic cuisines over the course of my meal keeps me and whoever joins entertained with plenty of meal options. Eating at Asian Garden provided me with my first time tasting delicious Endamame beans. The white house Chardonnay wine was delicious but unfortunately I can't recall the name (sorry). And, there were two kids in the corner with tons of toys, they appeared to belong there, one of them very loud and the mother was the waitress/owner, she was walking around eating, she even ate while she took our order! Although we left a tip, I regretted it: the waitress/owner, actually cleared our plates and served another person's lunch without washing her hands. I have had some descent meals at this establishment. However, the last two visits have not been enjoyable at all. First of all, the owner,rather than hiring a wait staff,has gone the cheap route and employed his children, who are barely working age. They have no clue on serving. Simple basics, such as glasses of water, silverware, or even offering of tea... None of these were done. Secondly, the food was terrible! We ordered a coconut soup, chow fun noodle, stir fried green beans, and sea weed salad. The 'chicken' in the soup and chow fun was equal to your 'mystery 'meat category.. Slimed, no flavor, and cut into strips? This did not resemble any chicken I have ever scene. The sea weed salad was marginal.. Kinda hard to screw that up. The only positive mention would be the drinks- THATS IT! We left hungry as we lost our appetite when we ate the so called chicken. A $45 tab, and we will never go back. My wife and I have gone here for years and always enjoyed their Chinese food when you're in the mood for takeout. But we ordered pad Thai from their Thai menu for the first time last night, and it was unbelievably bad -- a plastic tub of white noodles and chicken strips with almost literally no perceptible eggs, tofu, tamarind pulp, fish sauce, dried shrimp, garlic or shallots, red chili pepper, or other traditional ingredients. Whoever was cooking didn't have the slightest idea what pad Thai is supposed to be like -- and didn't bother to look it up. Other than that, it's a fine place. Sorry about the one star. read more
