Very disappointed. We went out of our way to come here because we wanted the Pho soup, only to find when we arrived that they stopped serving the soup in February. So my and I opened for a noodle salad bowl. Two of these salads costs approximately $25 and barely had any noodles in them. We went home hungry. Took a couple bites of my chicken curry box, and found a LONG strand of hair. I was so grossed out. Went back to the restaurant within five minutes, handed back my mostly uneaten curry box and asked for a refund. The staff had a little discussion in the kitchen, and then asked if I wanted another box. I said no, I wanted a full refund. Then the cashier tried to offer me a coupon for a free drink in my next purchase (LOL...), and I said again, no I wanted a full refund. Then she tried to stall the whole situation by asking for my receipt. I had just handed her back my curry box with the hair in it. What more proof did they need? Really more like 3.5 stars. Asian Box is generally pretty good, if you get the boxes. I got the shrimp spring rolls once, and they were terrible - the shrimp was really overcooked and it just ruined the whole experience. However, the boxes are superb. I regularly get the steak and carrot curry box, which honestly could use more carrots, and the fact that the carrots are baby carrots is a little off-putting in terms of presentation. It's usually way too spicy for me, but I recently found out that you can actually substitute the red curry for either their green curry (a mild-medium level of spice) or their yellow curry (no spice). Highly recommend that box. I also like to make my own box from time to time, and if I'm in a treat-myself kind of mood, get more than one protein (usually shrimp and tofu). It's so good, and the portions are large enough for me to split one box into two meals. (Definitely not the case for everyone, though). In the end, Asian Box is a much-needed addition to the Pruneyard, which lacks a lot of Asian cuisine, and the food is pretty good, most of the time. Service is usually pretty standard. I had the Asian salad with lime shrimp. My Son has the chicken with steam rice...My salad I enjoyed. I liked the ensemble of cabbage and sprouts. The sauce I chose was supposed to be spicy but was too sweet for me. Even with out the sauce my salad was fine. The shrimp however looked mangled. And my Son's chicken had a cheap deli-meat look to it. I'm not sure if the meats are pre-made. Quality of the meats look questionable. We ordered three boxes and two drinks, (no extras) price was too high in my opinion, for quality of food including taste. Our total was $57.00. I will not return. We ordered two meals, an ox box and a a chicken curry and once we got home we realized something was off. The ox box did not dissappoint, but her chicken curry box was all kinds of messed up. The box was mostly rice, with some baby carrots scattered around the plate, curry spilled all over and the overall look of the box seemed to had been just thrown there with barely any chicken on the plate. The only reason this place didn't get 5 on my first visit is because I feel like the food would have to kick my tongue to the back of my throat it was so good. They never disappoint. Discovered this place via quarantine food delivery frenzy a couple months back and was surprised at how delicious it was. I ordered the Chicken (All toppings) and got to build around it, choosing jasmine white rice and wok-stir fried veggies with a sriracha sauce. It looks small, but it's filling. I love having this lighter and healthier option in the Pruneyard! Asian Box has the tried and true boxes but I love having the option to customize your own box. All of their meat options are very flavorful and filling. Both of their tofu options are delicious but the tofu is a wee bit spicy and can be a bit more firm than is my preference. The tofu texture is closer chewy. My personal favorite is the lemongrass marinated pork with tamarind vinaigrette, wok tossed veg, and chilled rice noodles (crispy shallots are always a must). It's like a refreshing noodle salad. For colder temps, I switch out the noodles for soothing warm rice. The last time I went, the caramel egg was a bit disappointing. Not quite like my mom's...but then again, I have a high bar for a caramel egg. Portions are generous, almost enough for two meals for me. Big fan of this Asian Box--have already stopped by a few times since they opened about a month ago. Parking is usually a mess at the Pruneyard (especially with all these new dope businesses moving in) but once you find a spot, service is fast and efficient at AB. My go-to is a 1/2 rice noodles & 1/2 salad base, with beef, all the toppings, asian street dust, and tamarind vinaigrette. Beef is always packed with flavor and cooked to what seems to be a medium rare. Portion is great too. I always leave full and satisfied without feeling too weighed down. My coworker took me here because I told him I felt like eating something light and not too oily. You can choose to either make your own bento box with your choice of base, protein, and toppings, or choose already made combinations. I got The Miss Jones ($10) which has chilled rice noodles and lemongrass pork. The first thing I noticed was the caramelized eggs which looked so good! Unfortunately they tasted like they had been sitting out for a while. Because vermicelli noodles are very plain by themselves, they really need a special sauce or strongly flavored meat in order to spice up the dish. Since the lemongrass pork wasn't juicy, it didn't add anything to the noodles. To me, it lacked what I have had in vermicelli dishes at authentic Vietnamese restaurants. It's not bad I've tasted better Asian food but this one is ok when you're really craving for one. The curries are flavorful. I love curry you can't go wrong. Watch out for peanuts if you're allergic to it just like me. I asked to not put peanuts and I'm glad that it didn't affect the taste without the nutty flavor on my salad. The steak on my chef's salad was cooked perfectly, I prefer not to put rice noodles on my salad though ( it's just me, I wouldn't take points against them for it) Overall yeah I'd come back again and try other dishes. Since I often have to feed large groups at my job, I have also placed many group orders at my place of work for Asian Box. I have enjoyed their steak box and protein box many times. But...I don't know what the story is with Asian Box in San Jose. I ordered it twice for a group at our office and twice there were...less than pleasant...after effects. You know...AFTER EFFECTS? Came here for lunch on a Saturday and glad we did. I ordered the 5-spice chicken with brown rice, all the toppings, and their Asian Street Dust (who can say no to a topping with that name?!). The chicken had very nice flavor (their spice was a good balance and just the right amount of spicy). All four of us enjoyed our meals here and I would be happy to return. I had a Chicken Salad which contained slivers of carrots, sesame seeds, peanuts, and cold noodles (just the right amount) mixed into chopped salad. This was topped with the most succulent grilled chicken ever! Yummy!!The dressing was served on the side, which I prefer. Loved that it was served in a paper container! I come here generally once a month when I am over this way for a massage. I always get the same thing, so I can say I've noticed a decline in the service and quality here. Last time, I got food for me and my son to go, and they didn't give me my sauces. This time, the lime wedge was totally dry, so I asked for another. They gave me two more, also totally dry. They had to cut up a fresh lime so I could get some to squeeze onto my meal. Some of the jalapeño pieces were also not looking too good, with a bit of black (?!) on them. They also didn't give me one of the two sauces that was clearly on the order receipt until I asked for it, and I'm pretty sure there was less noodles than they used to give. I used to love my monthly treat here. Now I feel a bit of dread, wondering what will go wrong this time. Not sure what has happened to this place. Asian Box used to be one of our absolute favorites. A few months ago, we brought our orders home, and they tasted as if the cook had no training, no instructions, was out of some ingredients, and/or simply didn't care. Even the rice was horrible; it was the first time I've ever put undercooked rice in my mouth. We just threw away the food (which was a first for us, as well), and I drove back to complain. Fortunately, the cashier was very empathetic, and had the cook remake our orders. However, our replacement orders turned out just as bad (except the rice was no longer undercooked). Considering the recent reviews are also concerning, it sounds like they haven't fixed the problem. I hope they can turn things around because times are tough, especially for restaurants. It's a bummer though because they used to be really, really good! Doubt I'll risk another ~$60 to feed my family here again unless the poor reviews stop coming in. read more

Located at the Pruneyard, even on a Tuesday night the parking was poppin! I spent about 15 mins looking for parking until I eventually found a spot in the garage which is a little bit of a walk from the plaza. Asian box is located in it's own building nearby Buca Di Beppo and Teaspoon. I would describe it as a Vietnamese Chipotle, where you get to create your own bowl with a carb, protein, veggie and sauce. There are also some pre-made combinations too if you're indecisive. Create your own bowl is about $10.50. Every item in your bowl comes on top, but ask for it on the side if you want your own mix in. I got my sauces on the side so I can determine how much I want to put in. read more

Cute little restaurant in the prune yard. I was hungry for dinner and when i stumbled across this place it turned out to be exactly what i was hungry for. It's close to the movie theater. Plenty of parking (although it gets packed in the evenings). The menu has a lot to offer. I ordered two items, the spicy chicken and the sticky ribs. I found the ribs to taste a bit gamey, but it was still quite delicious. The rice was good. The salad was my favorite. The spicy chicken has great flavor. I had also ordered an iced green mint tea. It was refreshing. There isn't a whole lot of seating inside but there is outdoor seating which on a warm evening i preferred. I had a great experience and would come back again. read more
