Pad Thai
Rakesh L.

After weeks of trying to get eat here ( they are closed on Sunday evenings which used to be the only time we could normally find to be there.) we finally made it on a weekday evening. Ambience is average to slightly modern but well lit decor. Being a weekday night, I think they weren't expecting too many people but at the time we went they had a 12 person party just seated. This made overall service extremely slow. I understand stuff happens but it would have been nice if we had been told upon being seated that service would be a bit slow due to being understaffed. Beyond just slow service the tables were sticky (my wife used the hand sanitizer on the table and a paper tissue to clean the table) and we had to ask for water twice. All that said, the owner apologised profusely when I went to the counter to pay, so there was some redemption. And now the food: We couldn't order everything we were hoping to try given the long wait time, but here's my rating for what we did order: Malaysian Noodle Soup (3/5): when it arrived it was barely lukewarm, so it loses a star. I was thinking soup will be served piping hot. The taste however pretty good. There's a kick to the broth but a good balanced broth on the whole with hint of coconut and light noodles (I don't like a soup where all you can see is noodle), which worked well for me. The only other thing was whosoever was adding the lettuce did a terribly lazy job - massive piece of lettuce sitting at the bottom. Banh Mi sandwich (3/5) - I'm a sucker for Banh Mi. For those who follow me, you will have heard me mention Bi Cycle Banh Mi more than once and that is the standard by which I judge all Banh Mis. While this Banh Mi didn't get close to Bicycle's, it wasn't bad on the whole. My only feedback would be add fewer jalapeños as they completely overpowered the subtle tastes of the sauces. Pad Thai (3/5): pad Thai looked as it was supposed to but it was missing one of the veggies as described in the menu. Taste was a bit bland but a dash of lemon fixed it. Khow Suey (3.5/5) - my wife gives this a score of 3.5, which says a lot. Good amount of veggies but wished the broth was a bit thicker. But she liked the spice levels and felt it hit her palette just right. Overall, I'd like to come back when it's a little less crowded so we can truly get a taste of the variety thats offered. Let's see what the future holds...

Manchurian Sizzler
John A.

Not a good sign when the restaurant is empty, but I decided to try anyway. Ambiance is decent, typical dine in fast food, clean and bright. However the signs on the walls and counters are a bit confusing. Same with the formal menu. I found it very hard to figure out what I should try because it's a bunch of vegan fusion dishes, and there was no easy guide for new customers to choose favorites or best dishes. The online menu is much much better. The theme and menu need focus. I tried the Manchurian Sizzler to go, Hot plate with Manchurian rice, garlic noodles, fries, manchurian balls, vegetables (broccoli/cauliflower, carrot, baby corn and celery), cabbage and topped with Manchurian sauce. I waited 25 mins for my order to come out and I was the only one in there. There was no communication as to the expected wait time or if there was a problem with the order. Food was hot, spice was mild, sauce was average. However, I don't think it's worth the price. The noodles are premade from a packet (no garlic flavor at all), rice was not high quality and lacked flavor, veggies were cut too thin and not enough servings (why cut baby corn into thin slices?), no Manchurian Balls (it was a flat thinly sliced veggie patty that was wayyyyy toooo salty and burnt), and curly fries were not garlic fries (also prefozen from a bag). Entire dish was very very disappointing. I ended up with a lot of gas and stomach discomfort an hour after my meal. The flavors and freshness are not there. I will not return and cannot recommend this place. Sorry.

Overall, this is a nice place to visit, especially if you need vegan or vegetarian options. However, the service was quite slow and it took a while for our food to come out. We ordered a couple things, our favorites were the pad thai and the spring rolls. But again, nothing crazy. While this is a good place, I wouldn't recommend it for Asian food or Indian food as neither were exemplary here. The restaurant was very cozy and well decorated! Overall this place was alright and our only issues were with the service and the blandness of the food. Not sure I would recommend!

Manchurian Sizzler

The term "American-Indo-Asian" can describe the menu here. We had Mao Baos and Manchurian Sizzler, and loved both. That Mumbai Sandwich style chutney in Bao with pickled vegetables hits a perfect taste spot... I am definitely coming back to have some more Bao here. Manchurian Sizzler had both rice and noodles as well as fried and veggies. All tasted great! Service was quick and friendly. We were here for weekday lunch it wasn't crowded. Nice simple ambiance. Menu is really good with variety of options available. Must try place for vegetarians and vegans in the bay area.

Mao Bun
Shailee M.

Ordered mao bun, green soup & manchurian sizzler. Mao bun had amazing flavors. Mix of fresh & crispy texture in the bun. The green soup(have had multiple times here) is the best dish here. Tons of vegetables, noodles, flavors! The quantity is very good as well. Manchurian sizzler was a disappointment. It was super dry, lacked flavors. The sauce which they gave on side was not at all manchurian sauce but seemed like tomato sauce. Service - We always do take out from here but this was the first time we came in. Service was slow(considering it was very busy being friday) Ambiance - Decent, spacious +Point 1. Great vegan options 2. Innovative use of tofu in dishes.

Pad Thai

Went here for the first time taking a break from Annapoorna next door which was super crowded. This is owned by the same owners. Food was really good and tasted authentic. We ordered the Thai sizzler and pad Thai. Large food portions and we were stuffed at the end. Both can be split by two adults unless really hungry. In the Thai sizzler, the cauliflower bites and pineapple rice were especially good as was the noodles. Highly recommend this place if you like Asian food but are vegetarian.

Tofu vermicelli bowl
Sonia M.

I didn't expect flies buzzing around throughout the meal. The exterior and deco of the restaurant is nice, dish presentation is also nice, however flies are annoying. I got the tofu vermicelli, it was ok, instead of fish sauce they used soy sauce. Understandable because it's vegan. My friend got the Thai basil fried rice and that was the best among the group. Other things on the table were so-so. Nothing bad but no surprise as well. For the food it's 3-stars but flies are annoying.

Menu

We went to Asian Bowl as it had vegetarian and Jain options. We went around 7 pm and there was not much rush at the weekend. Around 8 pm restaurant was full and 1-2 families were in waiting line. Service was good and quick, and servers were respectful and pleasant. Restaurant and tables were clean. Although Restaurant can do better in napkins and sauces at table (had dirty hand sanitizer). We ordered Jain Sizzler, Roti Parata, Manchurian Sizzler, and Thai Sizzler. All the food arrived on time. Roti Prata was Malaysian readymade Paratha that you easily get in indian stores, so I wouldn't recommend it, although the chutney with it was good in taste. All 3 Sizzler were presented well but bland in taste, perhaps can't compare them with india standards. Manchurian balls were not prepared fresh. You can feel crispyness on the balls but rawness inside. Garlic chutney on the table was oily and something weird in taste. Overall, the food was very oily and bland in taste, so I wouldn't probably go again because the price is also too high (may be because it is in a commercial setting).

Green Hue (Bun Bo Hue Chạy)
Laura L.

I ordered the Green Hue (Bun Bo Hue Chạy). I was a bit suspicious that the workers referred to it as "the green soup) and on the label also was put as "green spicy soup). It was weird to me because I expected them to refer and label the food as it was on the menu. Anywho, I tried the order and it was so disappointing. The consistency of the noodles was over cooked and mushy. It was also chopped up which I was confused on why they would cut the noodles. I had to keep pulling the noodle apart because it was so soft and mushy that it got clumped up all together. The broth itself was bland and had no flavor. For this to be an "asian vegetarian restaurant," I would expect the food on the menu to be up to par at the very least, rather than leaving it flavorless. The broth was seriously just water. I had to add a whole bunch of my own seasoning and condiments to give it ANY flavor. It felt so inedible as I had to eat it like I'm feeding a baby due to the noodles being randomly cut up, and basically eating over cooked noodles in warm water as soup. Completely disappointed and would not recommend.

Manchurian sizzler with tofu added on request.

Visited this place for the first time and was amazed how good the food quality is. It is freshly prepared and you can feel it in the first bite!! This place is a unique gem hidden in Milpitas that offers all vegetarian Asian food options as well as great menu for unique drinks including boba. We order the fresh spring rolls with tofu and I must say pair it with their house-made spicy chilli oil and peanut sauce it is so yum!! Order Manchurian Sizzlers and the chef was very kind to add grilled tofu on our request. It is one of the best Asian Veggie Sizzlers I have had!! It is so good!! Sizzlers are accompanied by the sauce which adds more flavors. The overall vibe of the restaurant is very welcoming and clean and the owner makes sure you enjoy the food and also provides suggestions when asked. A must visit for anyone looking for mouthwatering healthy Asian food choices along with options for people who prefer no garlic n no onion in their food choices.

I went there for a quick bite. Their soup was amazing. A perfect healthy bowl for the fall evenings. Highly recommended

Vegan pho
Shreya S.

We were here for dinner on a weekend. We got the table quickly. We tried the following items Crispy Cauliflower: 5/5. This lived up to its name and was really crispy. Pad Thai with extra tofu : 5/5. My husband loved this so much the other day that he reordered the same dish. The tofu that comes with it was flavored very well. Vegan Pho : 5/5. If you enjoy pho, this is definitely worth the try. I enjoyed the flavor of the broth. There was good amount of veggies and tofu that came along with it. This is a very wholesome dish. This place offers such great value for money. And the service is very really friendly. I'll be back to try more items from the menu.

Pad Thai
Cindy C.

New vegan place located in the same business plaza as crust sourdough. We came for a late lunch on Saturday which was convenient that they open all day. We ordered the pad Thai, shaking tofu and bun chay hue. Unfortunately the pad thai was very salty so we didn't enjoy that. The shaking tofu was the best thing. If you're garlic and onion sensitive then make sure to clarify when you order because the menu didn't specifically say there were onions in the noodle soup. It seems they have the same protein in all the dishes. Service was ok, they only had one person work in the front since it's a small restaurant. There are a lot of outdoor tables but you would have to order take out to eat out there. Parking is plenty here.

We came around 4pm on a Sunday and there wasn't anyone dining in, so we got seated right away. I was in awe of how pretty the restaurant was, so the host sat us in the corner with the pretty signage and artificial cherry blossom tree hehe. The menu is very big, which can be a bit overwhelming. We decided to stick to our usual order, short rib/bone marrow fried rice and crispy chicken fried rice, but decided to try the shaken beef fries as an appetizer. The food came out really quick, since it was just us there at the time. The shaken beef on the fries were very tender and just melts in your mouth! When we packed our leftovers, you can see the juices from the beef spilling out lol. My bf gave me some of the crispy chicken skin from his bowl and it was so good; you can hear the crunch when I bit into it! My short rib/bone marrow fried rice was amazing as usual and very filling. We agreed that the food tastes even better when it's served fresh! We both enjoyed our drinks; sunset (mango hibiscus) and sparkling passionfruit calamansi. They have so many drinks that sound so good! Matcha, tea, fruit tea, milk tea, coffee, dessert drinks, and so much more! Our waiter, Duy, was very friendly and provided us with great customer service. We appreciated him checking up on us and making sure we were content with our meal. I would love to try their other dishes, but I keep coming back for the same thing haha. Maybe I'll try something new next time!

I was also skeptical about the Vietnamese and Filipino fusion concept based on the menu. I was wrong -- 1000%. The place is beautifully decorated, the staff was super friendly, and I really liked the ordering system with photos of the dishes. Most importantly, the food was AMAZING. Everything we tried was packed with flavor and exceeded expectations. Definitely coming back to try more of the menu.

I also really liked the mint beef soup. It tasted like a Chinese take on pho. The spicy garlicky sauce it came with was super yummy too. The drink sealed in tape and placed in a nice paper bag, the food was in a plastic bowl and the whole order was placed inside a plastic bag. We placed a group order but each of our order was clearly labeled with our name and items typed on tickets. We don't have to find our items from a massive amount of food like other vendors, which I'm happy with the convenience. I ordered a French Lemon Latte, it's ok. When I got the order, the brown coffee was floating at the top and the bottom was cream white. But once I poked the straw in, the white cream floats up and the drink looks murky. There's one piece of lemon at the bottom of the cup, so not very strong lemon flavor. Onto the food, the Ultimate Cheesy Tamago Bowl with Eel & Beef that I ordered was very good. Each element is neatly layered on top of each other, the take out did not mess it up. At the bottom is the white rice, then on top of the rice there are the sliced beef with sliced onions soaking in the teriyaki sauce. The second to top layer is a brick of Japanese style tomago egg and a thin layer of cheese. Lastly, there's a piece of teriyaki eel on the very top sealing off the bowl. The portion was sumptuous, and the teriyaki sauce carries the dish through. On the menu there are many other interesting items that I want to try, perhaps next time I can try their pineapple bun sandwich or the baked rice.

If you're not seated in first seating, you'll definitely be waiting a few hours to get your food. Between our party, we shared a bunch of different items. Although social media has been hyping up Uncle Cha non-stop, the food fell short on multiple fronts. The item I was personally most excited about trying was the pineapple bun with pork and chicken cutlet. Like another reviewer pointed out, many in my party did not enjoy the texture of the pineapple bun. The expectation was that the pineapple bun would be soft and fluffy but it was far too crispy, and tasted almost a bit too dry, or possibly stale. The meat inside was cooked well, and I liked the honey mustard in one of the buns, but the bun itself was a miss. For the sizzling pepper beef over spaghetti, the dish was too salty, had too much cornstarch added, and was not peppery enough. With the unagi plate with tornado egg, the egg was silky, glistening, and very pretty to look at atop of the mount of rice, but there was simply not enough of it. The unagi was fine, but tasted no different than the ones you pick-up next door from the freezer section at Ranch 99 and re-heat in an oven. Lastly, for the baked pork chop, there was not enough tomato flavor in the sauce. While service was quick, attentive and efficient, the food here was honestly a bit mid and is not worth waiting hours in line for. Don't trust everything you see on social media.
