I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Long and his entire team. From my initial consultation through surgery and every post-operative appointment, I have felt supported, cared for, and completely confident that I made the right decision. At 50 years old, choosing facial surgery was a significant decision, and I spent a great deal of time researching my options. Dr. Long performed my deep plane facelift, neck lift, brow lift, upper blepharoplasty and lower blepharoplasty. I appreciated his professionalism, meticulous attention to detail, and the time he took to answer all of my questions. His staff was equally exceptional, kind, welcoming, organized, and genuinely caring throughout the entire process. I carefully followed all of the pre-operative and post-operative instructions, and my recovery has progressed exactly as expected. One thing that truly amazed me was that I had virtually no bruising after surgery. While I experienced the expected swelling, it has steadily improved each day. I am only one week post-op, and I already love my upper eyelids. Even with the remaining swelling, I can already see beautiful, natural-looking improvements. One of my favorite parts of recovery has been waking up each morning excited to look in the mirror and see more of my facial features emerge as the swelling continues to decrease. Every day I become more excited about my results. I have already returned to working remotely one week after surgery, and, if my recovery continues on its current path, I expect to be back working in the office by the end of my second or third week. During my recovery, I have made it a priority to follow Dr. Long's instructions, get plenty of rest throughout the day, eat nutritious, protein-rich foods to support healing, stay well hydrated, keep my stress level low, take walks and allow my body the time it needs to recover. Most importantly, I have absolutely no regrets. I am so happy I chose to have my surgery locally with Dr. Long rather than traveling out of state or out of the country. Before my surgery, I wondered if I needed to travel to find an exceptional facial plastic surgeon within my price range. My experience has shown me that you do not have to leave Hawaiʻi to receive meticulous surgical care and beautiful, natural-looking results. Having Dr. Long and his outstanding team nearby for follow-up appointments and ongoing care has also given me tremendous peace of mind throughout my recovery. I know I still have months of healing ahead of me, but if my results at just one week are any indication of what's to come, I couldn't be happier with my decision. SURGERY PATIENTS BEWARE I deeply regret selecting Dr. Shim Ching. My experience with him and Asia Pacific was a nightmare, and a significant portion of my result is so unacceptable that I require a costly and risky revision surgery. I feel botched and mutilated. I avoid mirrors and public settings because of the effect this has on my appearance. I am deeply ashamed that I trusted this person and allowed them to do this to my body. On the day of surgery, the anesthesiologist was unaware of important medical history that I had provided to Dr. Ching's staff weeks earlier. Asia Pacific had expressly assured me that my medical history and concerns were being taken seriously. Yet, as I sat prepped and awaiting surgery, it became abundantly clear that this information had not been shared with the anesthesiologist. I then waited in the intake room for more than two hours while the anesthesiologist requested the information I had provided and reviewed it to assess surgical risk. Despite the practice's error, I had no financially viable option to cancel on the spot. Withdrawing that morning would have meant forfeiting over $40,000. I was therefore placed in the untenable position of either proceeding with surgery despite serious concerns about the handling of my medical records or losing the entire amount I had paid because of an error that was not mine. No respectable medical practice would place a patient in that position. This failure, compounded by serious deficiencies in postoperative care and communication, destroyed my trust in both Dr. Ching and his staff. Their conduct changed markedly after the practice collected my full surgical fees -- they repeatedly revealed serious deficiencies in professionalism, communication, and basic administrative competence. I recently requested a partial refund to help defray the cost of revision surgery with a different surgeon. Asia Pacific denied that request outright, without dialogue with me or any form of good-faith effort to address why I don't feel safe with Dr. Ching. Offering to revise his own work is not a reasonable solution when repeated lapses in professionalism, communication, and patient care have left me with no confidence in his judgment or ability. I strongly urge prospective patients to conduct thorough due diligence before entrusting Dr. Ching with their body, safety, and money. My Kybella experience was very disappointing and had no results at all. I thought I would have seen some, or at least a little difference after 3 months, but it has now been 6 months, and I haven't seen any changes at all. I had this same Kybella treatment over 10 years ago in California and the results were wonderful and amazing in 2 months. I also haven't gained any weight, so they can't blame it on that. I was charged $2200 for 3 vials and she guaranteed I would see a huge difference in 3 to 4 months. The 3 vials of Kybella she treated me with 6 months ago has not made the slightest difference. If you are thinking about getting Kybella as well, I do not recommend and I would not go to Asia Pacific Plastic Surgery. read more

Can't get through the phone if you have a problem. You may have to just drive in and go to the office if you need to talk to someone. And it won't be the doctor because you most likely will never see him again after your surgery. Pressure is on to get your deposit in and book your surgery date. They act like it's not a problem but then when you try and change the date they want to charge you. Upsell done with procedures that don't even work. The "helpers" will see you post-op but they have no clue how many stitches are put in. Therefore when stitches are taken out some could be left in and then you're in a bind if you having a problem and can't get in through the telephone to get in. read more

My Botox experience was very disappointing. I have been getting Botox for over 15 years and have always requested - and achieved - a frozen forehead without brow or eyelid/corner of eyes dropping. Also, my crow's feet were much smoother with previous treatements. I have recently moved to Hawaii for work and I needed a new place to get Botox injections. The clinic itself is nice and everyone working there is pleasant. Unfortunately, after spending $854 (after a 20% discount) and waiting the full two weeks, I see almost no improvement in my forehead and crow's feet. At my follow-up during which I expressed my concerns, I was told that further correction was not necessary as the results were "beautiful", and that Botox could not improve anything without making my eyebrows and eye corners drop. Also, I was told that Botox could not correct my crow's feet. That was a surprise. What is Botox used for if not for lines? Why has it always worked on me great before? And finally, why wasn't I told that Botox won't do much for me during my consulatation when I specifically requested a frozen/no movement forehead and area around my eyes?. I am attaching my photos showing my Botox results after 14 days. The results are very disappointing for me, they do not match my previous experiences, nor do they justify the cost of treatment. read more

I am fed up. I've tried giving this place SO many chances. So, so, so many. 2 surgeries, and 15-20 aesthetic treatments including chemical peels, laser hair removal, and botox for Tourette's. Today really frustrated me! First, Dr. Shim Ching and the surgeries: DOZENS of missed calls and e-mails that they NEVER follow up on. Many of these I would ask about the surgical stitches and an infection that had popped up at the surgical site. No response ever. They constantly never pick up the phone, too. I waited for Dr. Shim Ching for THREE hours in the waiting room, TWICE. On the surgery table, the nurses and I waited for him for an HOUR. I was sitting there naked while nurses sat there apologizing. He missed nearly all of my follow-ups and would reschedule constantly. A nurse would have to follow-up with me instead. When the surgical scar turned out to be raised, red, swollen, and cratered, Dr. Ching said to "cover it up with MAKEUP"! I had to pull teeth just to get a nurse to help me address the scarring using steroid injections (didn't help at all), and when I asked for alternatives, I was completely brushed off and told to just deal with it. Now almost two years later, the scar is still thick, cratered, and looks just awful. Ching CONSTANTLY made me feel like an inconvenience. Our talks regarding my concerns would be a few minutes. He genuinely did not care about me. NOT ONCE did I receive any apologies from Dr. Ching for his missed appointments, extreme lateness, lack of care/bedside manner. I stopped going to him for cosmetics about two years ago and I'll never look back. The aesthetics team: Despite them using the same facilities as Dr. Ching, the aesthetics team feels like a completely different clinic. The aestheticians there have been nothing but kind. Jolene and Brittney are wonderful ladies who have true passion for their jobs. They do a thorough job! I go to Jolene for LHR and Brittney for my Botox Tourette's. If I could review them separately, I'd give them both 5 stars. I had a consultation over the phone with Rita for Kybella and she was very rude and curt. She did not care at all about my concerns and hung up the phone very quickly. I really wanted to like her because she is an incredible injector but sadly I just couldn't get over the sour feeling after that interaction. The scheduling/front desk: Firstly, the front desk women *in-person* are kind and very sweet. I usually don't have an issue with scheduling with them in person. However, they are known for not picking up the phone, never following up, and constantly rescheduling due to time overlaps. The most frustrating thing they very consistently do is never confirm their scheduling. I will pick a date and time and they will be quick to the end the call. Like: Me: "I'll take that opening." Her: "Okay, sounds good. Goodbye." Me: "Wait, so just to confirm, the appointment is on [Date] at [Time], right?" Her: "Yup, see you then. Bye." It almost feels like they don't have enough people to handle the phone calls/e-mails so things get messy. I think they may be overworked/understaffed? Last interaction they scheduled my laser hair for 9:40AM. I don't schedule this early because of school. I wrote down on my calendars that my appt was at 3:45PM. I checked my phone to see an unannounced charge for $50. No phone call/text/email for why. When I called they told me I was charged for "no-show." I tried to ask on the phone but they must have misheard/not changed the schedule (which is why it's very important to confirm these things!) They were luckily able to squeeze me in for 2:15PM. I completely understand that mistakes happen. However, my issue is that they tried to give me back the $50 in store credit, rather than a refund. I have yet to hear back regarding a genuine refund. I really don't understand why I have to pay for their lack of communication. I believe am owed a refund. [Update: The woman I spoke to was able to refund me after speaking to her boss, so I'm appreciative about that. I learned from my aesthetician that the miscommunication most likely was a result of reschedulings happening that week with her. I was not contacted of the changes, but mistakes happen. I'm just happy I got my money back.] After my current sessions, I cannot justify giving this place any more business. I am so, so, so tired of being frustrated with Ching and the less than stellar communication. As a customer who has spent thousands here, I was still treated like an inconvenience. read more

Came here originally for some mole removals on my face. I can't say much for any of the larger procedures but the mole removals I've done have all healed really well and left minimal scarring. Definitely on the expensive side (about $3k - $4k per mole removed for small to medium size) but he cuts out everything including the roots so you know it won't grow back. Also as someone who has struggled a lot with their weight their entire life and isn't heavy enough for comprehensive weight management programs through my doctor, I've recently gotten on semaglutide through them for weight loss and it was a super easy process to start and no judgement whatsoever! It's not covered by insurance but it's $2k for 4 months worth of shots. I am so grateful to have found Asian Pacific Plastic Surgery. I had first been introduced to the office for Botox. I was referred to Chloe who is professional, friendly and a highly talented injector. She knows her stuff and I am so happy to have found her. The appointments were easy to make online or by phone. The office is gorgeous, clean, and the staff is on the ball with all their processes. Separately, a few weeks ago I had a breast aug replacement surgery with Dr. Long. I had implant surgery 15 years ago when I lived on the mainland and knew I was getting close to needing to have them replaced. While working out one ruptured. I was in shock and I was in a bit of a rush to get it fixed since I was imbalanced. I immediately thought of Asian Pacific Plastic Surgery since I had such a great experience with Chloe and the office. I completed the contact form on their website. Keri called me to talk about my situation. She was so friendly, compassionate, and professional. She explained my options, the cost, and all that would be required for the surgery to happen. Since the implant ruptured, she was able to get the implants replaced for free which was a huge help with the cost. She went above and beyond to get all the appointments sorted as quickly as possible as well as contacted doctors to get orders and set outside appointments so I could get cleared for surgery. She felt like a friend that wanted to help and was in my corner which I am so grateful for. I got my blood work and ultrasound complete and met with Dr. Long. I immediately felt at ease with the doctor and had faith in his abilities as a surgeon to take good care of me. He thoroughly explained my options and the process. I was able to get the surgery complete just 2 weeks after the rupture, which is a small miracle for Hawaii where things can often take time. I went in for my pre op appointment just one day before surgery, which they explained is not normal but they were able to make an exception. Misti was my nurse. She was so sweet and helpful. She answered all of my questions and walked me through what to expect for surgery. I was confident that all would go well but still had a little pre surgery jitters which she calmed by just being her kind, compassionate self. I was so grateful when the day of surgery had arrived. I can not say enough good things about all the processes in place and the incredible people that helped take such great care of me that day. Note to others who need to know: Be aware of doing facial surgeries in this place! I have had multiple facial surgeries at this place but one of the surgery results was not halfway what I expected and discussed during the consultation. OMG! These surgeries are very expensive $$$$$$ and I thought if I paid more maybe the results would be good but that was not the case. On top of that, even though I was happy to pay for surgeries, botox, and gift cards, I didn't feel like I was being treated fairly. There were times when I felt bad and disrespected. Before choosing this place I had read negative reviews as well, I saw people complaining about long wait times and how difficult it was to deal with issues. When I read that I thought it would never happen to me. Guess what, it all happened to me. When I tried to discuss with them options for addressing the results, the answers I got were: 1. The results are good. 2. There are no guarantees on the results. 3. Dr. Ching will not proceed with any make up plans if the results are not satisfactory. From the back and forth I had with them, I felt like they do not want to help me, they wanted me to stay away and not bother them. I gave up and stayed away from them. Communication Collapse Undermines Decent Care and Patient Trust While I'm a patient, I'm also a surgeon managing life-or-death emergencies (stroke, trauma). This review is most relevant to the busy professionals with lots of responsibilities. I truly hope no one has to experience going through that or ever does.. ..please see learning/ constructive feedback point at the end Follow up : I was upfront about my busy and unpredictable schedule preop and they told me that would not be a problem given my social responsibility to the community for disasters and trauma. Unfortunately, not the case while trying to Reschedule around island emergencies. I'd call and only get voicemails. Disregarded, marked no-show, only seen at nine months after exhaustive pushing. The surgeon, : decent and polite, for the procedure I had : brought in a team ( standard for this particular procedure ) they were coughing, had a runny nose the entire procedure. ( surgeon should have caught that but didn't ..... patient safety ?) . Awake under local anesthesia, I heard and felt them struggle with their upper respiratory infection ( at least they had masks and sterile gloves) ; they delivered far less work than inferred during preop . The surgeon checked in mid-procedure, then off to another reproceedure I assume. ***However, no final review of the work before they concluded. ***Having had a prior procedure, that prior surgeon checked the final result and we spoke. This wasn't the case that day . Surgeons must always check the final result . The post op never happened that year ( 9 months ) I eventually sent a photo but never heard back. Months later I tried again and eventually got through the following year , I arrived to the clinic to find they'd moved to a new location, unannounced to this patient . **Criticism**: 1. Prescription blunder abandoned me in pain, couldn't get medicine Friday afternoon basic lapse. Should never happen to a post op Patient going into a weekend 2. Scheduling neglect spurned my frontline duties. 3. Sick, shaky team underdelivered; surgeon evaded oversight. Didn't come to see final Result 4. Unnotified relocation signals disarray. 5. Surgeon never directly followed up with the patient after a procedure , with lapses in post op care. This is basic 101, sir. ** Feedback**: 1. Secure prescriptions and postoperative access. Make sure that your immediate post stops have a fallback. If there's a mixup that occurs near the end of the day and the staff cannot get to the phones or messages. ( especially going into weekends) 2. Appoint a reliable patient navigator--patients must never fall through cracks. Identify barriers to follow up. 3. Vet teams; surgeon must inspect results. Clearly you didn't check in at the end of the procedure , or once despite multiple attempts by your patient . 4. Surgeon responsibility --if there's a problem, confront it, don't hide. If the surgeon truly didn't know , he needs a have a heart to heart with the team . I put trust in you , see it from a patient perspective , after I paid and the procedure is done, You didn't come in to sign off on the work that was completed, I never saw you again. Never heard from you again. I tried for nine months post op with your staff, still nothing from you at 11 months post op at the time of this review. Future patients, potential colleagues, and investment firms should ask about these scenarios , and expect clear and promised / agreed upon plans in place so this doesn't happen to anyone / or you the potential patient The surgeon and polite staff really disappointed me. Once a patient entrusts a surgeon or physician, abandonment--especially when they're striving to follow up--is inexcusable. I lead by example. I hope you : clinic team learn from this feed back and wish you the best--it happened to me, I truly don't want this happening to anybody else. It shames the profession that we are both are apart of . Remember the oath ... Don't let this happen to anyone , ever again .
