This is such a cool spot in the Cooper/Young area. The vibe is cool and they have wonderful decor. It feels like you are actually sitting in a garden if you are sitting in the patio area. They have seating on the lawn as well as on the porch area. They even have an irrigation system set up an the water is always on, so don't be surprised by the mist as you are walking in. I love the beautiful backdrop. It's so cool and on trend for the new era of social media and content creation. Now onto the food and service. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and given the option to sit in or outside. We chose to dine in. It has a mix of tables and other nontraditional seating areas. Our server came out really quickly and took our order. I had the shrimp and grits and hubby had the chicken and waffles. The shrimp and grits were ok. I wasn't a fan of the tail being on the shrimp. I think overall they should add more sauce and seasoning to give it that kick it seems to be missing. As for the chicken and waffles. You can tell that the waffles are out of a box, if not they need to be more fluffy. They chicken was just ok. We too had "breakfast potatoes" which ultimately were only waffle fries with a few bell peppers sprinkled on them. I have hope that they will up there food experience. Went to brunch yesterday at this cool vibe place in Cooper Young. Loved the decor of the restaurant. Our table top was glass and the base of the table was like a tree trunk made from limbs and branches. Really cool. The food looks really good. Great presentation. I ordered the Breakfast Waffle Cups. The cups were filled with scrambled eggs, peppers, onions and seasonings. Needed a little more salt and pepper for me. The waffle cups were just okay. I prefer my waffles to be crispy. The egg mixture made them a tad soggy. The side of potatoes were fried twice. Good flavor but a little tough to chew. Service was great! Our server was very helpful and answered all of our questions. If she didn't know something about the menu or items, she went to find out from the kitchen. She was very cordial and attentive. Parking is always a little tough in Cooper Young. We parked in the neighborhood and walked up to the establishment. There was a Porchfest Event taking place so there were a lot more people around the restaurant with live bands. There is outdoor and indoor seating available. They allow patrons to smoke cigars outside so it was kind of hard not to breath in the smells. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table for 6 but the hostess was super nice and accommodating. She checked on us from time to time to let us know about our table. May go back when there are less people and try other items on the menu. They only had the brunch menu available on Saturdays. Not sure of other menu items on other days. My husband and I tried Ashtar Garden during our anniversary weekend celebration. We were immediately seated, which was surprising because it was a Sunday, but it was early. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. I loved the mixed seating. Now, to the main event. THE FOOD! Top tier. Beignets were Amazing! Definitely recommend. I had the fish and grits. It had a nice crunch and even better flavor. Grits were pretty good too, but the fish was the BEST! My husband had the chicken and waffles. I can't recall the exact name, but I know the wings were . Let me start with the good, THE FOOD. The food is good, for sure. They take large parties, another win! Especially since we were turned down by a bunch of other places. I ordered the traditional breakfast with eggs, turkey sausage patties (they also have links), and toast. I added a side of breakfast potatoes. Several friends ordered chicken and waffles which looked and smelled wonderful. They all agreed that it was a good dish with well seasoned/crispy chicken wings. Another friend got catfish and grits which I'm told was also good. The vibes were niiice. I loved the music, they had a few tv's showing college football, and the decor was a nice touch. Clean restroom as well! On to the not so good: The service was ok, spotty. They didn't have a drink menu so the server was telling us off the top of his head what they could make. They also served our cocktails in plastic cups. This did not strike me as a plastic cup establishment. My strawberry lemon drop tasted like it had been mixed with fruit punch. If you get mimosas, you have to pay for the whole bottle of champagne because they don't do single mimosas. There is gratuity on the check but the server claimed that the gratuity only goes to the bar and the kitchen so in order to tip him then we would need to add extra. Hmmmmm, that doesn't make sense to me. Oh I also saw some people smoking hookah on the patio, so that must be something that they offer as well? Not sure, it wasn't offered to us. This was my first time visiting this restaurant. I wanted to speak to the owner who constantly walked through the establishment to say my review But he never stopped. So here we go 1. My sever Sakina was fidgety and took 3 trips to bring 4 clear plastic solo cups of water. They ran out of Champagne for mimosas and said they couldn't get more because they were about to close IN 2 HOURS! And they didn't have any other options for adult beverages. Food was good. I seen the IG post about Ashtar Garden and was excited to try. My son took me out for an early birthday brunch. The wait was to be expected on a Sunday. We got seated around 1:45 after a 30 min wait. Frenchie, our waiter, was very polite and gave us time to review the menu. He brought us water and asked if we were ready to order. He gave me a recommendation and I enjoyed it. The food was hot, seasoned, and very taste. The seating area is small, but I believe when the weather is right, the patio will be great to implement. The wait is at least 2 hours. We canceled our food after two tables that came in 30-45 minutes after we ordered were served before us. I love supporting black business but WE are not celebrated at this location. For the other tables around us that received their food (most complained about waiting 2.5 hours) they said the food was very good and worth the wait. The only selection of champagne is Andre which is $6.99 at Kroger/Walmart. I will never be back. If I wanted to be treated like a second class citizen, I would go to a non-black owned business. Me and a friend got to swing by Ashtar for Thursday brunch. I loved it. The food was good, the mimosas are under $10, and it's such a cute, dainty spot in midtown! I'm not a fan of big crowds, so I prefer to weekday hang. Ashtar Garden most definitely gives me the vibes of a good brunch without the crowd. Them breakfast wings though.... Lemme tell ya sumn. Go in and say we have a reservation, they say we don't take reservations, but I did one online, granted I never received an email but the website said it went through. OK we get seated quickly and it's a nice vibe, so we chilling. The people we next to just now getting they food, said they waited bout 2 hours, we like dam, but we stayed anyway . Order mimosas she got a pineapple and peach I ordered watermelon. My shit was orange, with a splash of watermelon, heavy on the splash, so much so that my mimosa had pulp. I'm cool tho, they get it fixed. Then we see the champagne , it's Andre and if you drink champagne, you know you finna have a bad ass headache. OK cool. We chilling. 1 hour in, still waiting. Now in between this time some white folks come in and I'm sure yall know where I'm going with this. 45 mins later and we watch the owner hand deliver they food in to go containers. We ask the waitress the next time we see her and she swears up and down, they didn't get their food. Now we not fucking blind but OK OK so we rolling on the 2 hour time frame and the other white table that came in after us gets offered complimentary drinks and gets their food delivered before us. Now mind you, it's still plenty black folks in the restaurant who came before those two tables that haven't received food, not just us. And those two tables were hand served by the owner. So now we ask our waitress why those 2 tables get their food before ours, she tells us the first table got the wrong order delivered to them, so they took their correct order out immediately instead of putting they ass back on the waiting list. Then she came back and said the other table ticket was put in before ours by 3 minutes, which was a lie because we chose our table, because that table wasn't clean when we arrived. Them folks got there at least 30 mins after we did, received complimentary beverages, an apology from the owner and food before we did. The owner didn't apologize to anyone in that restaurant outside of them two white tables. Yall wanna know when our order was up, when we said to cancel the order and we'll pay for the drinks. We didn't even taste the shit. They did comp our drinks, but it was over 2 hours after we arrived. Won't be going back unfortunately. MARCH 4TH. Went and had brunch with my husband and a friend at @ashtar_garden today. F them folks. We were the 4th table sat when they opened. We got there early. We stood in line. We then sat 40+ minutes before having our order taken. Almost every other table was serviced before us. We saw at least 2 other tables get up and leave without getting food. Food started coming out for other tables (still slowly) before we even had our order taken. My husband was already planning his route of escape and where to get food. My friend had to yell to get the ONE waitresses attention. It then took another 30...40 minutes for food to come out. My shrimp and grits was amazing. His waffle burger was good but the waffles were soggy. We ordered a wing to try and the 1 server looked at it, said, oh something ain't right and took it back. Brought another. It was good flavor wise but it was cold. Between the 3 of us dining, we were given 1 carafe of water and never checked on again. Didn't ask how the food was. Nothing. There was another woman (apparently doing bottle service only) my friend asked for help with several times. What kind of drinks. Getting a box. Getting a check. She said ok yea and didn't help with anything. I was trying to give them a whole lot of grace for being a newly opened restaurant but then they wanted to talk shit to me on their Instagram. Lol what? We wait and wait and wait. Almost 2 hours later we are FINALLY seated. (Mind you, a couple that came in after us, was seated before us). We didn't make much of a fuss because we were trying to be understanding. So once we are seated, we both order the dirty bird. (Something simple and quick. Or so we thought). Well it takes well over an hour for us to get our food. We also attempted to order champagne and they were sold out of that. The server informed us that they would comp one meal since we were patient and not as 'vocal.' (Ok, cool. At least you are trying to make up for the long wait. Right!?). We ordered the same thing but my food came out first and his food came out 15 minutes later. The chicken wings were top tier! Love them. However, my waffle was old and overcooked and my boyfriend's waffle was undercooked. Once we finished, we asked for our ticket. Which did not reflect a meal being comp'd.
