    Breakfast Waffle Cups

Went to brunch yesterday at this cool vibe place in Cooper Young. Loved the decor of the restaurant. Our table top was glass and the base of the table was like a tree trunk made from limbs and branches. Really cool. The food looks really good. Great presentation. I ordered the Breakfast Waffle Cups. The cups were filled with scrambled eggs, peppers, onions and seasonings. Needed a little more salt and pepper for me. The waffle cups were just okay. I prefer my waffles to be crispy. The egg mixture made them a tad soggy. The side of potatoes were fried twice. Good flavor but a little tough to chew. Service was great! Our server was very helpful and answered all of our questions. If she didn't know something about the menu or items, she went to find out from the kitchen. She was very cordial and attentive. Parking is always a little tough in Cooper Young. We parked in the neighborhood and walked up to the establishment. There was a Porchfest Event taking place so there were a lot more people around the restaurant with live bands. There is outdoor and indoor seating available. They allow patrons to smoke cigars outside so it was kind of hard not to breath in the smells. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table for 6 but the hostess was super nice and accommodating. She checked on us from time to time to let us know about our table. May go back when there are less people and try other items on the menu. They only had the brunch menu available on Saturdays. Not sure of other menu items on other days. They are closed M-W and open Th-Sunday 12:00-5:00 pm.

My husband and I tried Ashtar Garden during our anniversary weekend celebration. We were immediately seated, which was surprising because it was a Sunday, but it was early. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. I loved the mixed seating. Now, to the main event. THE FOOD! Top tier. Beignets were Amazing! Definitely recommend. I had the fish and grits. It had a nice crunch and even better flavor. Grits were pretty good too, but the fish was the BEST! My husband had the chicken and waffles. I can't recall the exact name, but I know the wings were . They had a little sweet seasoning on them that I really enjoyed (even though it wasn't my food! ) I would definitely recommend for a date night and even a girls brunch.

The food was absolutely delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive. The place is a little small, so there was a bit of a wait to be seated, but water was available, there was shade, and there were plenty of fans in the patio area. I removed a star because I like to see my ticket prior to paying, and that didn't seem to be an option. Also, I would have liked more beverage choices. Overall, very good. I would go back. I also enjoyed the music

Food was delicious. Area small and cozy. Decor od welcoming and eccentric. Staff very friendly and welcoming knew the menu very well. The purchase the entire bottle to have a mimosa is at little over rated especially if isn't high end brand. As think wine or sparking should be an option since every one doesn't lime champagne. There should be multiple juice available at least 3-4 Pineapple, mango, OJ, Strawberry, or nasty Cranberry. The food was delicious. Serving size normally nothing hugh. Plating skills were very pleasing. All around great spoy to hang or catch up with friends..

Music and food are two of my favorite things I enjoy when I come back home to visit Memphis and this place has both. Nice, intimate vibes, attentive wait staff, and good food. I got the Breakfast Wings and it was perfect. Alexis recommended them both ways and I'm so glad I got the sweet chili. Wish I had gotten the waffles too but can't wait to visit when I come back. O

Tried Ashtar for Sunday Brunch and it was delicious. I ordered the Dirty Bird and added a side of eggs and potatoes. Everything came out hot and fresh. The service was great and the aesthetics were nice. There is very limited seating. Only rating 4/5 due to seating. I went with my boyfriend and the table for two was a little too low for me considering I'm pregnant. However, the staff was happy to switch us to another table. Must try!

Shrimp and grits. Breakfast potatoes were supposed to come with peppers and onions. But as you see there are none!

This was my first time visiting this restaurant. I wanted to speak to the owner who constantly walked through the establishment to say my review But he never stopped. So here we go 1. My sever Sakina was fidgety and took 3 trips to bring 4 clear plastic solo cups of water. They ran out of Champagne for mimosas and said they couldn't get more because they were about to close IN 2 HOURS! And they didn't have any other options for adult beverages. Food was good. Sever carried the can of pineapple juice around to the table. Not a place I'm gonna run back to.

I seen the IG post about Ashtar Garden and was excited to try. My son took me out for an early birthday brunch. The wait was to be expected on a Sunday. We got seated around 1:45 after a 30 min wait. Frenchie, our waiter, was very polite and gave us time to review the menu. He brought us water and asked if we were ready to order. He gave me a recommendation and I enjoyed it. The food was hot, seasoned, and very taste. The seating area is small, but I believe when the weather is right, the patio will be great to implement. I can't wait to return to enjoy other entrees on the menu. Customer service was great!

The place is decorated with a variety of sports pics, articles and Christmas decor. It is a very cozy diner. There is parking in the front and back of the restaurant. Our server Christopher was awesome! He was very nice and friendly. There was a steady flow of customers which is a good sign. I will return to try some lunch specials. Good experience!

Time for an update! Sucks to write this one, but it's where I stand on this joint!…read more Since my last review, the owner died, the place caught fire and closed under the new owner, was then bought by another restaurateur couple and a their partner. They remodeled it, filled the kitchen with new equipment and food, slapped some paint on the walls, then let er rip! The operators here also own and operate Bain's BBQ just down the road. I've been here three times now since it reopened. It would be more, but here we go... They have daily lunch meat and threes that rotate by day of the week. I always check the website to see what's being offered before I go to places like this so I can see if they have something I want. I really dig these kind of lunches, I seek them out when I want a "solo decompress, don't talk to me lunch", so I want to like this place so much. I quit going to Bain's a year or more ago because of never knowing what they are selling. The menu is never updated on the site, or even there at all now. Every time you walk in it's a surprise! I just checked again to verify, and yep, still no menu, only online order, but 60-70% of it is "out of stock". Ugh. When they do have the menu posted, it's normally wrong. This seems to be a trend between the two places now. The first time I was here I was underwhelmed. Country Fried Steak tasted funny and I had the worst cornbread I had ever had. Not even sure how it was made that terribly. I do hope they fixed it. Second visit and this time the printed menu didn't match the website, but they had the websites menu available, strange. The website showed fried chicken livers available, but the dine in menu did not. When I asked, they said they in fact did have them and it was a mistake on the dine in menu. Huh? That time I did have the chicken livers and they were pretty good, and I also one of the best rolls that I have ever had in my life! Shockingly good!! Better than my grandmothers. Please don't smite me from the grave, Gram. Both times the sides were just fair. Same thing at Bain's, so it makes sense. Today I walk in and there is one table sat in the whole place at 12:15. I got a bad feeling from the jump as I am pretty sure the food is all done and just sitting there being held on a hot well table. If it ain't busy, it just sits. This place used to be packed every single time you walked in! I sit down and the old guy with the really cool hairdo comes and gets my drink order and gives me a menu. The livers are not on the menu again... My last visit was 8 months ago, I checked my pic. I knew what I wanted because I had peeped the site and confirmed they had Fried Chicken Livers just like last time, so it's all good, right? Guess what?!?! Still not on the dine in menu so I'm like "can I get the livers", cool guys says no livers and walked away. 8 months later, it's still not corrected. I sit there for a minute, and got pissed off and then, I looked around, thought about eating old meatloaf or fried chicken, took a sip of my water, and I got up and left without ordering. My advice, (that I understand that absolutely no one gives a shit about) is this. Stop putting so much effort into your Social Media BS and get your shit together on the menu/websites of the business's you run. It's cute and all for you to eat at other Memphis BBQ joints, I like bbq too, but let's shore up your own operations before you do so. That way we can all enjoy all of our meals together and you stay in business. I used to love both of these places, but now I fear they are just going to be memories of was once a couple of my favorites. One more try.... I'll update again if it's all good then. '26 - 19

Let me start by saying this: I truly enjoy this restaurant. The atmosphere is unique, the concept is fun, and historically the food and service have been reliable. That's exactly why this experience stood out so much. For a party of our size, we would have preferred seating toward the back of the restaurant where it was noticeably warmer and more comfortable. Instead, we were seated in an area that felt a bit chilly, which set the tone for the evening. The bigger issue, however, was with the food and service execution. Four dishes out of our party of twelve were essentially untouched. Two scallop entrées and the Steak Frites were overcooked, tough, and unfortunately inedible. The special ribeye of the night--the most expensive entrée--was also not finished. What concerned me most was that no one from the service team paused to read the table or ask why multiple plates remained full. Only one dish was removed, and there was no follow-up conversation about the others. We spent over $800 that evening, including drinks, appetizers, sides, and desserts, so expectations for attentiveness and quality were understandably higher. When a table leaves several entrées uneaten, that's usually a signal worth acknowledging. After the visit, on January 9, 2025, I took the time to provide feedback privately through OpenTable in the hope that management would review it and respond. Unfortunately, I never received any acknowledgment. Even a brief reply would have gone a long way. Silence, in this case, was disappointing and felt like a missed opportunity to demonstrate care and accountability. I'm sharing this feedback because I believe in the restaurant and want to see it succeed. I work in a customer-facing industry myself, and I know firsthand how small service touches--checking in, asking questions, and following up--can make the difference between a good experience and one that keeps guests coming back. I genuinely hope this was just an off night. I would still consider returning, but I do hope the level of attentiveness and follow-through improves.

Walk through the door and you'll find yourself in what can only be described as a high school cafeteria aesthetic--fluorescent lighting, simple tables, no-frills decor. But order your food, and you'll quickly realize you've stumbled onto something truly special. ## The Food: Breakfast Perfection The biscuits alone are worth the visit. These aren't your average biscuits--they're fluffy, buttery masterpieces that practically melt in your mouth. Each one arrives at your table with layers that pull apart perfectly, golden-brown on top, impossibly tender inside. The thick-cut bacon strikes that elusive balance between crispy and meaty, with just the right amount of char on the edges. The sausage is clearly made with care, well-seasoned and flavorful without being greasy. And the eggs? Cooked exactly as you order them, every single time. Whether you want them over-easy with that perfect runny yolk or scrambled to creamy perfection, they deliver. ## The Secret Sauce: Obsessive Consistency!! Here's what sets Bryant's apart from every other breakfast spot in town: their almost obsessive commitment to consistency. Visit on a Wed at 7 AM or a Saturday at 1PM, and you'll get the exact same quality. The bacon is always thick-cut to the same specification. The biscuits are always equally fluffy. The eggs are always cooked with the same precision. This isn't luck--this is a team that has perfected their craft and refuses to let standards slip. ## Service That Rivals Fine Dining Despite the cafeteria setting, the service operates at a level you'd expect from a five-star Michelin restaurant. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely seems to care about your experience. Orders arrive promptly. Coffee cups are refilled before you realize they're empty. Special requests are handled with grace and efficiency. ## The No-Friction Experience Everything about Bryants is designed to be effortless. Ordering is straightforward. Seating is quick. The menu is clear and well-organized. Payment is smooth. There are no unnecessary complications, no pretentious service rituals, no waiting around wondering if your server forgot about you. I feel like this place embodies the essence of my inner peace somehow. It was born as a overflow bar for Iris from the lore I hear. To me, as I see it, this place became Chef Kelly's escape to reality as far as food, atmosphere, and service are concerned. I think this place presents his personality in his relaxed more chill version. If you have ever been to Iris, specifically, when it was next door, you would understand what I mean. When it was the tiny place it had some kind of pretentiousness to it that just turned me off. I only ate there once. It would take weeks to get a reservation before he moved it and the constant limelight had to be a lot of pressure. This place though.... I could come here three times a week no issue. In fact, I actually wish that I could eat here three days a week. Second Line is moving soon. They are going back to being next door to Iris in the newer Laurelwood location. In some ways I wonder if Chef needs that jovial comfort of a place next to Iris to keep him grounded. I do hope the charm of this is somehow transferred, but looking out the windows into Cooper the last time I was here Dec '25, just will not be a possibility in that shopping center it's headed to. That will be lost. He's a great guy! Hell of a Chef! World class employer! Tremendous philanthropist! A leader in the City of Memphis! Please go support him in the new location. Now.... All that BS and I ain't said shit about the food and why I like this place so much. If you scroll through my photos you will see almost every dish that has ever been on the menu here. My favorites now are Sweet Heat Oysters, Chicken Livers with pepper jelly, that lobster knuckle sandwich from waaaay back, spinach Madeline, and of course... the Red Beans and Rice.
