I settled on the Traeger Ironwood 885 within about 10 minutes. Was able to take advantage of a Father's Day sale as well. They included two bags of pellets and delivered it to my house the next day already assembled for no extra charge. The delivery guys walked me through every step on how to use the grill. Not sure many places would do any of that. I imagined I'd be sitting here all day just putting it together. Nope. Just sitting here having a beer thinking about what's for dinner!

I asked them if they were startled when I came in... I wanted to indirectly note that they acted weird when I came in. I am not moved by folks that behave this way. IDK if I will be back. The next day I returned for something else and was surprised to find, that they did have hose reels. They were on the patio side, unboxed and covered in dust and dirt. I purchased one. I took it home and set it up. You had to manually crank the hose while guiding it by hand. Too much work for a $55 item. I attempted to return it within the stated return policy time frame and was refused because I didn't have the original packaging and that it was dirty, therefore it was used. I told that it had no packaging when I bought it and that it was filthy. I went to the patio area and picked up another one to show them the condition of the item when I bought it. But to no avail, I was denied a refund.

We assumed we'd be able to pick them all up at the same time. Wrong assumption. As the items came in was notified via email (automated process) that an item was in and had 7 days to pick it up or it would be returned to their inventory. Tried to call them on 3 separate occasions, 1st time on hold for 17 minutes before I hung up. 2nd time on hold over 30 minutes before I hung up. 3rd time over 30 minutes before I hung up. Decided to drive there, picked up what was available. When told that they are not answering their phones they said "oh yea, we have a problem with our phone system, it just sends incoming calls into our hand held devices ". No mention of it being addressed or when they plan to have it fixed. It's almost as if they are happy to be having that problem. By now a few additional items had come in so picked them up as well. Finally a toilet came in and all that was left pending was a bath tub. Explained to them that we needed the toilet held until the tub came in so that the two items could be picked up together as we only have a sedan and our contractor was going to pick up both items up at the same time. They wrote a note in the order and assured us it would not be a problem. The automated notifications continued coming about the items going back into stock if not picked up within 7 days. Finally went back to the store (since you can't speak to them on the phone because they don't pick up), and arranged for them to deliver the toilet and tub. Delivery was scheduled for Thursday 12/18. Waited home all day and at 5:30 pm drove to the store (since they don't answer their phones) and after they researched they said they attempted to deliver the previous day, Wednesday 12/17. Their delivery people ran the bell and left when it wasn't answered. I wasn't home. BTW, they contract delivery with an outside firm which they DON'T disclose. They tried blaming the delivery company (which is how we found out delivery is outsourced). Reminded them that we contracted with THEM for delivery not a third party. Ended up renting a truck from them to get the toilet and tub home. They did not charge for the truck rental but they did nothing for us throughout this entire transaction. Not interested in improving service which is sorely needed. They must chalk it up as part of doing business. Terrible customer service and experience.

Reading the reviews for both, I think I understand in a way that suggests both ratings (which is an average of the individual ratings) are misleading. People tend to either love (5 star) or hate (1 star) their experience at both stores. Personally, I've had a range of experiences at both stores such that I wouldn't 5-star or 1-star either, but while there is so much that is similar about these two stores, Home Depot sets itself apart with more available and helpful staff. One other reviewer here was critical because all that a Home Depot associate did to help them was to point them toward the right aisle. For me, that's all I would expect--and if I needed more department-specific advice, I would find someone in that aisle. (I personally don't want someone in the garden section advising me on electrical wiring! In fact, I'm impressed that a garden person would even know what electrical aisle number to suggest to me.)
