Jose and his team were professional, reliable, and a pleasure to work with. They transformed all 52 of our carpeted stairs into beautiful laminate flooring, and the quality of their workmanship was exceptional. Their pricing was also very reasonable. Great job, guys! This crew demolished some old janky fences and built two new ones in three days. There were a lot of complications they had to deal with: two creek crossings, some old metal junk that had crept over from the neighbor's yard, and a row of trees that had long ago been planted on the property line. Their creative solutions look so good, I'm excited to finally start using this back part of our yard! read more

I reached out to Jose again for some patio and paver work. We designed out a porcelain tile patio with planks for stepping stones. Between, a dark slate gravel. Within a week of the quote, Jose and team began the work. They leveled, accounted for drainage and water flow, applied weed barrier, and then laid down the gravel. I picked the tiles out, but Jose arranged to pick them up, and the other materials. And was on site for much of the work. He's just so good. The results are beautiful. And were delivered in three days. For any work around your house, call Jose first. read more

I just wanted to update my review from a few years ago because we hired Jose Ascensio again, this time to do a big garage renovation project and interior paint job. Jose and his team did an amazing job transforming our dingy garage into a finished, beautiful space! Jose is a great communicator and he had great ideas about how to finish off the garage. He has excellent workers who work efficiently and carefully, all the time keeping the work space as clean as possible. Jose's pricing is very competitive, and he provides super value for what you pay. I told them they could do the drywall finishing at Level 3, and their work looks more like Level 4 or even Level 5. I will call Jose again for any big projects. 5 stars for sure! read more

I had 42 feet of fence falling over and Jose at Ascencio's Handy took care of it! Jose was communicative and transparent the entire process. The quote was very affordable and we incurred no extra charges during the process. Jose was even so kind as to haul away some extra trash I had! Also he finished the job in the exact amount of time he predicted. Highly recommend for fence needs. read more

We highly recommend Jose Ascensio We initially spoke with Jose for a fence project and ended up contracting with him for additional fence work on our property and our neighbor hired him for another project. He provided us with detailed quotes and readily made adjustments when requested. It was clear to us that he has successful experience and proposed creative solutions with several questions we had. Jose is friendly as well as professional. He responds back in a timely manner and was onsite when he said he would be. Our new fences are beautiful and the project was reasonable. It may be a little thing but we appreciated how Jose and his team were careful about unnecessarily affecting landscaping near the project area read more

Undependable, flakey. He sounded positive on the phone, then never heard from him again to obtain a quote.

Jose is the best! Look no further! He does excellent work, and is affordable and professional. He listens carefully. He first built 2 fences and a front gate for us. He later did beautiful work on enclosure walls for our deck. Jose and his team arrive on time, and he does everything he can to make sure that his customers are happy with the results. read more

Another five-star review for Jose and his team. They replaced a 90-foot side, backyard fence that was blown apart by the March 2023 storms. Jose responded quickly to my outreach, and came out the following day to look over the project. I received his estimate the next day, which was very competitive. Communication before, during and after the work was completed was excellent. The work itself is impeccable, and was completed swiftly. I highly recommend Jose and his team. read more

Jose and his team finished our new fence yesterday and it looks amazing! I found Jose on Yelp based on his glowing reviews, but after he came out and quoted our project, I didn't need to look any further and booked him right away. He was extremely responsive throughout the whole process, including when I first reached out to get an initial quote. Him and his team were punctual and he kept in touch with me about the progress of the project. He was open to my suggestions, answered all of my questions, and worked very fast. We even had to make a last minute change which he accommodated seamlessly. His crew was tidy and very professional. I am so glad we found Jose and we couldn't be more pleased with the new fence they built for us! read more

We are pleased with the work they are doing at my home, the last one was remove 3 TV from the mount wall and repair walls after that, well the work was impecable, just seeing the walls you can not imagine it is not the original wall. Before they helped me to remove kitchen cabinets and install new ones. The work was really good and the counter top company asked for who install the cabinets since the work was as good that they didn't have to do any adjustments to install the countertops. read more

An outstanding job from start to finish!! We are so happy with the fence he and his crew just built in less than two days. Jose is a true professional and such a pleasure to work with. From the beginning when he came to give an estimate he was on time, pleasant, and thorough. His estimate was well written. Since I hired him for a fence that had to be built to my requests as well as my neighbor, I was so grateful for his understanding and responsiveness to our requests. He is excellent at communicating even with text check ins and reminders which were much appreciated. I am truly grateful to have such a wonderful experience with this business and will definitely use for future home improvements. read more

Jose and his crew completely transformed the main part of our house this week and we are thrilled with the results. They took an outdated room addition and made it look like the attached original dining room and living room by: texturing the smooth walls, adding baseboard and detailed wood molding around the windows and doors, and then repainting all three rooms the same. His prices are so reasonable and his work was so good we also asked him to do a couple of other small jobs to our house: he built and installed a new backyard gate for us, fixed 3 doors in our house that didn't close properly, and patched up a couple of large holes in some walls leftover from some plumbing work. Jose and his team were professional, on-time every day, and completed all the work in the specified time at the estimate quoted. They all wore masks too (we are in the midst of COVID pandemic) which we really appreciated. We will definitely hire him again! read more

We found Jose on yelp with great reviews and we messaged him for our fence extension project. He responded really quickly and came to our house for a site visit as scheduled. During the site visit, we described our initial thoughts on how to build this new wood fence on the existing fully grouted CMU wall and Jose gave a few suggestions on how to make it solid and sound. When we were talking to him, we were also impressed with his professional knowledge and open mind.  After the site visit and by the end of that day, we received a quote for this work and it looks really reasonable to us compared to quotes from others. Then we accepted his quote and nailed down the start date for the work. Jose and his crews arrived in the morning as scheduled and the construction went really rapid and smoothly. Jose told us he bought the con-heart redwood fence board which is a better grade compared to typically used grade of con-common, but he did not ask for extra bucks. Jose and his crews were also detail-oriented and tried to make everything look nice and clean. We will definitely recommend Jose for the fence projects. read more

I cannot say enough amazing things about Jose and his team. What started as a fence job a year ago has now turned into a long list of home projects that Jose has been happy to help with. He is so reliable and detail oriented - there is no project too big or small for him to accomplish. His project management skills are top notch, keeping on track with his timelines and stays in close communication if anything changes along the way which is very much appreciated. Jose does not cut corners and makes sure the job is done right and looks great. Beyond his skills, Jose is so nice to work with - it is truly enjoyable to have him around! Jose was amazing to work with! I could not recommend him enough. As a realtor, I've worked with many contractors and what I appreciate about José is he doesn't cut corners, he does what he says he will do, and he provides quality work. Jose and his team did a large fence for my rental property in American Canyon. They finished super fast and when they were done, I was extremely happy with how it turned out. Even when I needed to make a couple last minute changes, Jose was very accommodating and understanding. I highly recommend José. Will definitely be calling him for future work. read more

I'm in a bind.  I'm prepping a house to put it on the market, so I'm getting a bunch of repair & update work done.  I've got a fence that looks a bit loopy, tilting toward the downhill neighbor's yard.  It doesn't have to be replaced, but I definitely need to have it repaired; there are other places on the property that could use some fixing up, too. The area's just had some major wind come through; one night, it was like a hurricane hit the Bay Area.  I'm calling fencing contractors, and they're really slick.  "We can schedule an estimator for the end of the month."  Oops.  "That's three weeks," I say.  "If I go with the estimate, how long before you're doing the job?"  "Oh that," they all say.  "We're currently booking three months out."  Well, that's not going to fly.  I want the house sold before then. I do a Yelp search for fencing, and Ascencio's Handy comes up near the top.  His service area map shows I'm right on the edge, but he's got a 4.83 average out of 24 ratings, and the review are full of superlatives about what great work he does.  I figure, "What have I got to lose?" and call him. He tells me he's got a gig in Alameda the next day, but he can come out in the afternoon.  That's a Thursday.  We make an appointment to meet at the site, and we're off.  I learn that his first name is Jose, and we're already friendly.  When he texts me a little before our scheduled time to say that the Alameda plumbing job has delayed him, I'm OK and really appreciate he let me know in advance.  When he shows up, he's apologetic again and quickly looks at the job.  "We can do it.  I'll get you an estimate tomorrow, and we can do the work on Monday." Monday?  Given my experience with the fencing guys, I'm concerned.  Jose says, "No problem.  We'll be here Monday."  When I get the estimate via email, it looks great to me; I'm all in.  "Have a great weekend!" Jose & his assistant are on the site when I get there Monday morning; they're already unloading tools & supplies.  Jose & I are talking at each other like an old married couple as we walk to the fence, but he suddenly gets serious.  "I need to tell you something about that estimate I sent you," he says, and I'm thinking, "Uh-oh."  I know that lumber is expensive right now because it's in high demand and supplies are low, so I wonder how much more he's going to need. Jose's very apologetic:  "I was really tired when I put it together, and I was working on more than one thing at a time."  I say, "It's OK," not sure that it is.  "What do you need to change?"  He says, "I quoted you too much.  It should have been" about 40% lower. Lower???  Yep.  Lower. I love a man with integrity. Turned out that the loopy fence wasn't failing.  It was the retaining boards under the fence; the dirt was pushing them down the hill.  Fortunately, Jose had a mess of 1x6s, so they were able to fix it fine.  They walked the entire property and fixed all of the fencing problems, and they took less time than they'd estimated.  I was so glad it was a nice day for them, and I was happy to pay Jose's original estimate. Great guy.  Great work.  Highly recommended. read more

I had a problem with my bathroom light. It was not clear whether it was the switch or the light fixture. Jose Ascencio shows up on time and if he is delayed, he will notify you. Five Stars for Jose & team, did a great job on our long fence replacement plus big gates, professionalism, great communication, fast & on top of all that very reasonable price, best of all the 4 contractors we've requested estimate from. We initially hired Jose to replace our fence. Which he did quickly and efficiently. Then we found out he does bathrooms and kitchens, too. So we hired him to remodel both our bathrooms. As with our fences they worked quickly, efficiently and always cleaned up before leaving. We did get/order most of the supplies ourselves. However, the total cost for both bathrooms was about half of what one nationally advertised company wanted to charge us for one bathroom. The one very minor minus is that some of his workers speak limited English, so unless you can speak Spanish, make sure all your instructions are clear with Jose (who speaks English well). Would highly recommend Ascencio's Handy. read more
