Gelato

This is the restaurant inside Renaissance Chicago O'Hare Suites Hotel. The receptionist advised us we could use airline meal vouchers there and to charge the meal to the room and then present the vouchers at checkout and they would deduct the voucher credits. This seemed a quick and easy answer to getting something to eat before getting as much sleep as we could before going back to the airport. It was easy, but, unfortunately, not quick at all. The dining area is a quiet space and an easy place to unwind. There was one person working the restaurant floor. She worked as hostess and server for everyone. When we arrived, there were two other people there. Each of them at their own table. Mr. T ordered a cheeseburger with fries and I ordered two scoops of gelato. Fifteen minutes later, the server came to say they were out of chocolate gelato. I opted for vanilla at that time and five minutes later, I got it. I ate both scoops in front of Mr. T who was rather hungry. He finally got his cheeseburger after waiting 40 minutes. He said the burger was edible but not very good. The fries were pretty good though and I could tell he enjoyed them more. There isn't a photo of the cheeseburger and fries because I wasn't going to put my phone camera between Mr. T and his food causing him to wait any longer. The hostess/server was trying but we noticed people waiting, like us, all they way through. She needed more help. She would be helping someone at a table and anyone coming to the hostess stand would have to wait. We waited for water refills while she was taking orders and helping others. We only noticed her food running toward the end of our time there because there simply wasn't a lot coming out of the kitchen.

service was fast. Maria was super sweet and helpful! great ambiance!! I got the turkey club and it was amazing! The truffle fries were so tasty!!

I ended up ordering my meal from Asado at the bar next to the restaurant because I got tired of waiting for someone to show up to the hostess station. The bartender was very nice. I had the crab cakes as an appetizer. I won't recommend them because there was very little crab in them and no taste of crab. I was very pleasantly surprised by how delicious the pork chop was. It's expensive but it was cooked to perfection. There was no blue moon beer available so I ordered margaritas that were ok, not great.

Food is okay, servers were friendly. There's even some free cocktail samplings. The reason for the 3 stars, service was really really slow. We were the only ones there on a Thursday night and we waited for our food for a long time, like 30 minutes. I ordered the mahi mahi with cilantro rice, its ok for $23. My friend ordered the pork chop for $30! If we weren't that hungry we wouldn't come here but only for the convenience as we were staying here for the night and were too tired and hungry to go out. Parking is $30!

(Sorry, no pictures this time! I was enjoying my food so much that I completely forgot.) The ambiance is welcoming, bright, and modern, and the restaurant is much larger than I expected. Everything was clean, and our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. I ordered the Lox Plate, and it was outstanding. The salmon had the perfect texture and seasoning, the cucumbers and bagel were fresh, and all of the flavors paired together beautifully. I love seeing lox on a menu, but many restaurants either don't do it well or serve portions that are too small. Here, everything was spot on, and the portion was generous enough that I left completely satisfied. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal, and my husband and I have already said we'll be back very soon. This restaurant is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood, especially since there aren't many local breakfast spots nearby that aren't part of a chain. Highly recommend!

I will say a 4/5 - wish it had my Corned Beef and a bit more crisp. I liked that the onions & peppers were chopped the same size and had a good amount of cheese. Beautiful decor inside. Very bright and inviting. The staff is very nice but they definitely need more help in the dining room...maybe an extra waiter/waitress or 2. It does get very busy especially on the weekends. I will go there again.

It's an old school diner feel - box cereal, pies in a cooler, cooks busting out great meal after meal. Takes you right back to the 90's. My first time here and brought my parents. We all loved it. Dined for $115 with tip and we all had an omelette with a protein, side of bacon, and coffees. I got the Spartan omelette. It was recommended and right up my alley with mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach, and feta cheese. I also added bacon and it was delicious! I was able to get it with a cut banana and it was perfectly ripe. My husband got the Denver omelette which is also know as a Western- ham, onion, bell pepper, and American cheese. He really liked his as well as my parents who ordered Corned Beef Hash omelette and Spartan. I will definitely be back! It was so good, we didn't even take a second to snap a pic!

We order eggs Benedict and the Mac wrap. They are out in less than 10 minutes. I give her and the cook props for the timing and the cook jokes, "all out of a microwave." HA! We knew that was not true. Looking at the menu, the ham off the bone looks like their specialty so we both were sure to get meals with that! We split the burrito and the Benedict. Both were lacking salt in my opinion but I understand under salting for the masses so us salt lovers can add our own with reckless abandon. Please note this is CASH ONLY! Which I missed despite the sign in the front. They do have an ATM with $2.75 fee. Pricing for the food did seem steep for a diner but it's 2025 and nothing is cheap. The food came out so fast I didn't get pics besides the rest of my burrito I ate at home.

The diner has a classic, retro feel with a checkerboard aesthetic that gives it a traditional diner vibe. It is not very modern or trendy, but it is clean and well-kept, which is really what matters. The space feels simple and comfortable, making it a place someone can visit regularly for a quick, reliable meal. The menu is very straightforward and features typical diner staples. The food was pretty good, but the dishes were very basic with nothing particularly unique about them. It felt like the kind of food you might make at home, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it wasn't especially memorable either. I ordered an egg sandwich with cheese and sausage ($9.95). I also ordered bacon on the side (3 for $4.25). The egg sandwich was okay, but the bagel tasted like those cheap bagels you would get at a hotel during their complimentary breakfast that come from a bag. The sandwich didn't have anything on it other than exactly what they called it on the menu: a bagel, sausage links cut in half, an egg, and cheese. Nothing on the sandwich was seasoned or flavorful. My husband enjoyed his food much more than I did, and he ordered the Big Texas Breakfast ($12.95). This came with country-fried steak with sausage gravy on top, 2 eggs your way, and hash brown potatoes. He also ordered sausage links on the side (3 for $4.25). The service was friendly, and everything came out in a reasonable amount of time, which worked well for us since we were on a bit of a tight schedule. Overall, Lola's Diner delivered a simple diner experience with homemade-style food. I would come here again, but it wouldn't be my first choice for breakfast.
