First the floors are slick especially if it's raining so be careful! We started with the Queso Fundido. It's a thick cheese not creamy like regular queso. I had the chicken fajitas and my husband had the short rib tacos. Everything was just okay. Our server was great and explained everything very well. Don't waste your money. First, three of the drinks on the drink menu aren't "being served yet". Not sure why they are on the menu now. Next, the margarita was not great. It was served in the wrong type glass and when drank over the salt, talked like weak lemonade. The frozen marg was very strong. The food was ok at best. Everything is ala carte. No chips and salsa unless ordered. No sides on the majority of the entrees. The shrimp ceviche was extremely salty. Thank goodness it had fresh avocado on top. The Tacos Governado were soaked in oil to the point you could not pick them up. Our first and last visit, especially at this price point. read more

Ok....a lot to unpack here. We went about 6:30 on Sunday evening and they close at 8. We were immediately seated but took a LONG time for a server to come over. Once we finally got a server he informed us that the menu was changing on the next day and they were out of a lot of menu items because they wouldn't be serving them anymore. We asked what they didn't have? They only had ONE entree available and all taco selections were available. He said they considered closing early (they should have). So we both orders tacos. The plate comes with 3 tacos (no side). You can't mix and match. You get all the same tacos. We ordered fried Mahi tacos and fried shrimp tacos. As a side, we got beans and corn. The tacos were really tasty. They were hot and fresh and the batter on the fish and shrimp was seasoned very well. Now the beans were simple refried black beans with some corn dumped on top. No creativity and poor execution. We took a couple of bites of the beans and left it. We also had regular frozen margaritas. They were basic and seemed to come from a mix. We may give them another chance since the menu has changed. We were not overly impressed on our first visit. read more

3 friends and I enjoyed our first visit to Asaderos for a Girls Night Out evening. Jesus was an engaging server telling us about the various food and drinks, asking about our food preferences and quickly bringing our margaritas made with fresh squeezed limes! We recommend the delicious carne asada tacos and guacamole dip. You must save room for a slice of their scrumptious orange soda cake! My husband and I just had the most wonderful meal at Asaderos. The food was delicious and beautiful. The restaurant is gorgeous with three big semiprivate party rooms and a large dining area. The owner greeted us at the door and was apologetic about the delay getting the liquor license, but that didn't bother us a bit. The food was all amazing. Highly recommend the corn appetizer, the guacamole, the heirloom tomato salad, the leek soup and the Sonora tacos. The flourless chocolate cake was also incredible! They should be open for lunch also in a few weeks, so we are looking forward to that as well. read more

We ate here for the first time about two weeks ago. Extremely disappointed. The service was good, our waitress was great. However, the food was bad. And I mean fish that was not fresh and not edible. We chose not to send it back, we asked for compensation for it Which they did. The fish tasted fishy and was mushy and actually probably would've made me sick if I ate it. I have never had to spit out food at a restaurant, but I had to spit this out. And then the waitress tells us does it happen before with the fish. This is inexcusable. Food was ok but for a Mexican restaurant we were expecting the whole chips and salsa experience. Didn't happen. We also didn't get the appetizer we ordered. This restaurant is very good, reminds me somewhat of a taqueria in Mexico City, although they don't have the same number of items on the menu. The waiter was friendly and gave us some selections that were very good. My wife ordered the shrimp dish which came with black beans and I had the pastor tacos. We both throughly enjoyed. My tacos were presented well with the pineapple on top and a slice of radish. You get 3 tacos and nothing more. I had the classic margarita which was made with Olmeca Altos tequila, lime juice, and aguave syrup. Not your usual syrupy margarita you find in the Tex-Mex restaurants made with sweet and sour mix and cheap tequilas loaded with additives, think Jimedor, Hornitos, Cuervo. Altos is what we make our margaritas with at home with the same ingredients used by this restaurant. The margarita was served over the rocks in a cocktail glass, such as an old fashioned. So they serve hand crafted cocktails, with additive free tequila which is great. I noticed in another drink they use Alma de Jaguar tequila which is a higher grade additive free tequila. As a side note the owner of this brand resides in Memphis and the proceeds, or at least a portion go towards the preservation of of the Jaguar's habitat in Central America. This is a good sipping tequila on its own, typically not used as a mixer. In summary the drinks and food quality are excellent. Now the not so good. The restaurant business is very difficult so the business part and the planning is perhaps more important, so I wish this to be a useful critique, if the owner happens to read. The rent must be through the roof in this large space located in a very desirable area. Very risky in my opinion due to the pricing of a more upscale product. For two people the bill was $88 and then I left a generous tip due to our outstanding waiter. We did have 3 margaritas. So we paid over $100. I received 3 tacos on my plate, no sides or anything. If I were the owner I would leave this venue as soon as possible and consider a food truck model with a more expanded taco selection and generous portions, or some hole in the wall space with more of a take out food model with perhaps walk up ordering. I don't think the portions, price point for the food, and huge rent at this location is a combination that is sustainable. The traffic would have to be terrific just to cover rent, thus excessive prices for small portions. In summary very good food, but the overall value is not there for the traffic needed to make this profitable in my opinion. I hope they take action quickly and get this on the right track. With the excellent food it can definitely happen with the correct mix with the business plan. read more

Do you rate Chez Philipe low as well because you didn't get a bottomless salad bowl?? Maybe stick to your buffet restaurants - the rest of us would like the opportunity to have an elevated dining experience in Germantown. Anyway - the menu is not your typical "texmex" that every other place in town seems to copy from each other. The menu was truly unique, expertly prepared, with great service all around. Hidden gem for the food and ambiance but the service could be better. Let me start off by saying the service wasn't bad by any means, our server did great. Especially given how busy they were. It's likely just a staffing issue. Regardless, the food was amazing. Our server told us the chef is from Mexico City and they have their own dessert chef. We ordered the beef short ribs and some tacos for dinner and tried both desserts at the end. Short ribs were amazing (came with a container with tortillas to keep them warm). Tacos were amazing. Desserts were amazing. The orange dessert comes with a coconut ice cream that's incredible. Neither dessert was super sweet but that was perfect for us. The chocolate has Mexican chocolate in it and is similar to a dark chocolate fudge. You can't go wrong with either. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. Everything was wonderful. You don't leave feeling heavy afterwards like typical Tex-Mex style food either. I should also note, this is not Tex-Mex, it's much better. The seating is spaced out a lot (love) and the seats are comfortable and the design is beautiful! Lighting is pretty low so be aware of that if you go in the evening. read more

First, this is not your typical Memphis Mexican restaurant. Chicken and cheesy rice will not be found on this menu, and that's a great thing. Service was outstanding, and our waiter was very engaging and knowledgeable about the menu. Our food came out promptly and was spot on. Highlights included the Al pastor tacos, the short rib, and the Chamorro was one of the best things I've eaten in a restaurant. This is a great date night restaurant. Not stuffy and pretentious, but fancy and exotic enough to impress. They will have their liquor license shortly, so expect some pretty exciting beers and cocktails. It was so good I'm reluctant to let people in on the secret, but we have to support an exceptional restaurant that's a lot more than what you'd expect. Bravi tutti. read more

Overpriced-out of several items on the menu. Server not well trained. Guacamole was in a bowl the size of an orange & 4-5 homemade chips served with it for a price of $11. For extra chips of 4 or 5 chips, there was a $1 charge but the server did not tell us that there was a charge. There was no salsa or chips brought to the table as in other Mexican Food establishments. The tacos were really small & nothing served with them. Our server never asked if we wanted refills on our drinks. I called to make a reservation for the evening-no answer & no answering machine to leave a message. Inside felt cold & empty. Hopefully food and service will improve but first impressions are important & regretfully, we won't go back. read more

This was the absolute worst food I have ever had at a Mexican restaurant. I can't believe they spent all of this money renovating this restaurant and no one tried the menu before they opened. The tiny $11 guacamole was served with about 6 chips. The waiter went on and on about how this food is authentic to Mexico. Mexicans would starve if this was their menu. I ordered the shrimp tacos and there were 3 mini tacos the size of my thumb and there was no shrimp, just some cheese and tomatoes. The tacos were covered with raw cilantro and radishes. Our server was so over the top and pressured us into getting things. It took 15 minutes to get a drink from the bar and they do not have frozen drinks. This place will not make it unless they overhaul their whole menu. The renovation was nice, it is a huge space and there is plenty of room for live music. I think they need a new concept because this will not work. read more
