Walking in, there was no customer at 8:45 pm on a Friday night. The restaurant smelled of secondhand smoke, which is not good for a eating place. I moved to bar seating so the smell was better. The restroom did not have anymore liquid soap either. This would be a decent place to get ramen and small dishes since they close late, but it's not my favorite ramen spot currently. So the Ramen is the best I've had n i have traveled through different states. I came her once and the broth got me hooked. I normally get craving to get it so often. My go to is the Shyo Tonkatsu Ramen. I can put up with cigarettes smell as it's like you're in Japan. The service does take a while as it's made when ordered. I just got back from Japan and ran across this place in Gardena while in business. The hours they are open to def caught my eye. The place def has character and years of it. The chef greeted me and sat me at the bar. I was then greeted by the waiter who apparently just painted as he was covered with specks of paint. The menu is straight forward and has a bit to offer than standard ramen joint. I was a bit hungry so ordered karaage and a large kayteeri shoyu ramen. The karaage was piping hot when it was served with a side of mayo. The chicken texture was so airy and light. The batter thickness and texture was very good as all. The mayo works fine with it but I'm certain it would be amazing with any sauce. The flavor of the Kayteeri shoyu ramen was a bit on the stronger side for my taste. At the same time, if you compare seasoning levels in general in Japan vs in the US, that's typical. Perhaps because I just returned from a trip recently and have to recalibrate. Overall I didn't enjoy the ramen as it was somewhat typical. Overall 3 stars but karaage and authenticity pushed it up to 4. read more

This is definitely an unassuming, no frill Japanese eatery. I absolutely love their ramen. I really enjoy the bursting of flavor and the simplicity of the topping. For the price point, it is very hard to beat ($9.45 for a gigantic bowl). I always order the fire ramen, comes with some grounded pork and an egg. While you can't compare to a $15 ramen bowl, this place is definitely my favorite in Gardena when I just want some quick ramen. The noodles are done to perfection and service was quick. read more

So, here goes. they are open later then pretty much all other ramen shops in the south bay area. so if you have a late night craving for ramen this is your go to. Their prices have stayed consistently low even with runaway inflation. you can get a large bowl of ramen and it still costs under 11 dollars a bowl. this matters especially when other shops are charging 15+ for a regular size bowl. i like how its not super loud and noisy in here. this place hasnt change in forever and that a good thing. they take credit cards and there is plenty of parking in the lot. The soup is not as salty as many places so it has a better Asian tastebud. Some dish like a simple seaweed salad is way over priced, but the ramen orders are not bad. I love Asa Ramen so much. At first glance, it doesn't look like anything special. There's a thick, heavy screen door in the front that you have to walk through, and there's a faint smell of cigarette smoke in the air. Which, really, is par for the course with late night ramen joints, but I digress. It's misleading, because the inside is extremely comfortable and laid back. There's always old school hip hop and r&b playing, and the overall setup is super cozy. The staff here are absolutely wonderful. They're very attentive, cheerful, and more than ready to help you out and answer any questions you'll have. The owner, more often than not, is right behind the counter cooking, and he's an incredibly friendly man. My usual is the Fire Bowl Ramen and I waver between Experienced and Crazy spice levels, and my husband usually goes with the Assari or the Salt ramen, and we always get the karaage as an appetizer. Today though, we were having a lowkey date night and decided to get fancy, so we got the fried gyoza, the kurobuta sausage, and the scallops to share and I got a side of the egg rice. First off, that egg rice was so delicious. I usually make a very bare bones version at home, but I haven't in some time and I've been craving it for weeks -- I was hesitant to order it for the longest time because I didn't know if they served the egg raw, which is exactly how I wanted it, and I'm glad I got it. They use very high quality eggs here, as well! The scallops were also so good, as were the kurobota sausages and the gyoza. I can't think of a single thing I didn't absolutely love. The ramen was fire, as always, the noodles were firm and springy and the chashu was cooked just right. The broth is very rich and flavorful, and the cabbage they add to the Fire Bowl ramen is fresh and has the right amount of crunch. My husband enjoyed his Assari ramen as well and was very happy with it. Special shout-out to our server, I didn't get his name but he was such a sweetheart. He seemed a bit surprised that I ordered the egg rice and was super stoked to find out I loved it and make it at home. This is a strange little find. We were looking for a spot that opens late for a late night Saturday dinner, and this was a welcomed find. The shop seems very old and definitely has a weird smell to it (cigarettes?). We walked in and they seated us on the other side of the restaurant -- it was dark there, and they turned on the lights midway during the dinner. Our server seemed a bit frazzled and was running around. We ordered the Kottari ramen and the Assari ramen with an extra egg. This ramen is far cheaper than other ramen options, but it seems a bit barebones, with very few toppings. You have to pay extra for most toppings, and we wanted an egg. The soft boiled egg was perfect! The char sieu was also very sad... It really didn't have much flavor at all, and there was only a tiny piece! While I liked the richness of the Assari ramen, I think that the star was really the Kottari ramen! The light ramen broth was a flavor bomb! It was so complex and delicious! This is basically a no-frills place where you can get a very reasonably priced, late night bowl of ramen with great broth, but if you are all about this toppings, this may not be the place for you. Ummm WOW. Who knew a hidden gem would be stored over here. Just fyi, this is a small shop and it's run by an older gentleman so please have patience with your food as he takes really good care of the food. So here we go! The small plates I had a kurobuta sausage and kimchi pork. My wife ordered gyoza. Food came out hot and ready. Pork and kimchi had a very good amount of meat and veggies. (I'm a big fan of pork kimchi). The gyoza was perfectly cooked and delicious. The sausage came with a small portion of salad with some vinegrette on it. Yum! So now onto the ramen. This is unbelievably the best part. The ramen did take some time coming out but it was worth the wait. The bowls come out pumping hot so be careful eating them as you may burn your tongue if you dive in too quickly. My wife ordered the curry ramen, my friend ordered the fire bowl, and I ordered Assari ramen. All three of these ramens had one thing in common, their soup base tasted distinctively different. How awesome is this. I haven't had this kind of difference since I tried authentic ramen in stalls of Japan. I've always found that most ramen places all have either pork or shoyu based and most of their broths all taste very similar to each other, but it was nice to experience different tastes with different ramen that were ordered. The staff is very gentle and sincere. The way the bar is setup really reminds you of eating ramen in Japan. I hope to be back soon to try the different items in the menu. read more
