Spicy edamame

I accidently stumbled on this place and ended up loving it! The staff was on it, we got in and out. The food was so good, my favorite is the pictures I posted. Also loe the seating, plenty for a packed night

Maki Boat (5 Special Rolls)

I love Toyo sushi! Ive been ordering it since a couple of years ago and it's always so fresh and never disappoints. We usually get the maki boat which is pretty good price for 5 delicious rolls. My favorite ones are the baked salmon and the spicy tuna. Their salads are good too, the mango avocado one is very fresh and they serve it very well. The service is very nice and I would definitely recommend!

Love love Toyo! This is my go to "fast" sushi spot. And I only say fast because services is usually fast and always very friendly. The location is great too as it had a lot of parking nearby. They have a lot of tables so the wait is rarely long here. I usually just walk in and am seated. I have also had this place on Doordash and food always arrives fresh and still hot. The staff is great too, we really enjoy coming here.

I tried taking the pieces out but I should not be doing this waste of money. Very disappointed

Loved this place always good but this time the taste was off. my sushi inside the shrimp came with the outside shell.

We ordered the Vermont boat!

Amazing sushi!!! So fresh and delicious!! Probably one of the best sushi restaurants we ever had!! My son and I decided to come here after he had to go to Cal state Dominguez hills to drop off some paperwork. We yelped this place and found this gem!! If I could give 10 stars I would!! Highly recommend!! Service was excellent and very friendly! Restaurant was clean and parking was easy!! We loved it!

Poke tuna mild

The food was great! We stopped to eat there before we went to see a performer at the VIEW that is located next door. It was a Saturday night. It's a small restaurant but a large menu. We ordered the poke tuna and the crispy tuna. That was enough food for two of us.

Unagi & Avocado Bowl

We liked eels and had a dragon roll and unagi avocado bowl for lunch. The food was tasty with good quality ingredients, and just enough for lunch. Prompt service and food was prepared and served quickly. All and all, everything was pretty good but just not quite enough for 5-stars. Clean and relaxing environment, ample parking.

Baked Lobster Roll

This is definitely my, " go to" for Sushi whenever me & the hubby crave sushi rolls or the sushi boat. The food is so good & the service is excellent. My kids love the Bugogi & rice. Last night was date night & I was craving their lobster baked roll. Yummmmm!!!!! My husband's choice is always something with Sashimi, which never disappoints. Delicious & fresh every time.

A friend of mine recommended this place to me while ago. And finally today we went together. The service was very good. And a salads and fish was very fresh. I started with a few items and they were all delicious, so we kept ordering for more and more :) I will definitely come here often since my kids love the rolls and sushi.

This is a very cozy neighborhood gem in Gardena that delivers pristine quality! They maintain a…read moresteady baseline of excellent food and fast service. The moment you walk in, you're hit with a warm comforting atmosphere. It feels like stepping into a traditional welcoming home. To top off the hospitality, they start you off with a complimentary scoop of mashed potatoes. We ordered gyoza to start, which was perfectly pan-seared with a great crisp on the bottom and a juicy, savory filling. We also got chicken karaage which was golden, light, and incredibly crunchy (do not skip the fresh lemon squeeze! It cuts through the richness beautifully and highlights the seasoning). For entrees, we ordered the Bento box set. It is a massive, visually stunning assortment with tuna sashimi, chicken karaage, grilled mackerel, crisp tempura, earthy root veggies, and rice. It comes paired with a side bowl of their udon. You literally get a little bit of everything We also got the Pork Curry Katsu set: the katsu retains its crunch even under a rich blanket of deeply flavorful curry. It's incredibly filling and comes accompanied by refreshing pickled veggies to cleanse the palette and another hearty side of udon. Between the fast service, generous portions, and flawless execution across both raw and hot dishes, Kotohira is an absolute staple.

*** Credit cards accepted ***…read more Kotohira Restaurant is one of several old school Japanese restaurants in Gardena and the restaurant specializes in Okinawan food (Okinawa soba) and Sanuki udon. The restaurant is located in a fairly busy strip mall with other popular restaurants and drink shops located within the same mall. Renowned food critic Jonathan Gold from the Los Angeles Times wrote an article about this restaurant back in 1992 ( https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1992-07-09-fo-2127-story.html ). [Parking]: The strip mall has a big enough lot and our party had no issue finding an available spot during weekday dinner hours. [Interior]: Old school Japanese mom-and-pop dining vibe. [Menu]: The restaurant offers various combo sets with tempura, bento, udon, and seafood (unagi, salmon, grilled mackerel, etc). Their specialty dishes are Shoyu Udon and Tanuki Udon. *** Tendon Combo (assortment of fried tempura with a semi sweet sauce poured on top of rice $15.95): The fried tempura pieces were not as good as the tempura from Tendon Tempura Carlos Jr. as the combo lacked variety. The miso that came with this combo was really good. *** Overall a mediocre experience with the tempura combo that I ordered, but I sampled the udon and liked it a lot better than the tempura so I would definitely recommend getting their specialty like udon for a better experience.

I recommend getting their six piece salmon special (it used to be $10-12 but the price has since risen). My personal favorite item is the salmon onion nigiri, the onion pairs nicely with the salmon and I wish this was a more common offering amongst sushi spots. The fried salmon belly is also great, and I've been lucky enough to order it when it's discounted a few times, though I think that's mostly on week days. My only gripe would be how inconvenient ordering is - you order off a digital touch screen at your table/booth, but the screen is attached to the wall over your head, so you have to strain your neck upward to the read the menu and it's pretty strenuous if you want to take your time looking through the menu and deciding what to order. Despite this setback though, I still highly recommend coming to Waka Sakura if you're looking for your sushi fix.

There is no sushi out in the open that rotates for you to pick out like Kura. This is strictly made to order which is exactly what I like. Every piece of sushi is something you've had but it just taste better. The portions are fresh and quality of ingredients are magnificent. What I also love is they have a Trio of sushi. Whether it's Tuna, Steak, or Salmon... I love the location. It's nestled on the 2nd floor of Tokyo Central which also makes it for those who really really want to go here cause it's not like the signage is extremely easy to see.. Will definitely come back.

When I was feeling more adventurous, I tied the mentaiko pasta which I found too fishy for my personal taste.

Why has no one told me about this gem??…read more As soon as you enter the restaurant, it feels like your grandparents home. I mean that as a compliment, follow my train of thought now. There is so much love, so much heart that is put into the food. Additionally, the amount of food is coma sending. I finished the food and was so ready to take a nap in the warm weather. It's literally like eating grandma's food when youre a young child. The spicy tuna came out first and we were shocked at how delicious the fish was. There wasn't a lot of rice which I appreciated and that fish had a bit of a kick. Pair that with some wasabi shoyu and you're tasting some real goodness. The spam musubi was solid with the furikake. My only gripe was that it had a bit too much rice which could have been better balanced with a thicker slice of spam. Regardless, it was solid. Now the star was the chicken combo. Boy oh boy, that Ladybug Fried Chicken was amazing. The batter had so much flavor and added to the juicy chicken. Pair that with you salad and mac salad.. oh my.. youre tasting a slice of Heaven! Fair warning, there is some grinded celery in the mac salad, so if youre allergic then let them know. Otherwise, that aroma of celery added so much depth to the mac. I can't emphasize enough, there is so much love in the food and the servers take gooooood care of you. It was also amazing to see how much attention to detail the owners put in the restaurant. There is ladybug decor all throughout the place and hand drawn papers from customers. It was really neat to see how much love they receive from their customers.

The restaurant is inside the Tokyo Central market hall. So it has more of a casual food hall setup. There seems to be a good amount of parking, but the lot can definitely get busy depending on the time of day. The katsu is really well done. Crispy and crunchy on the outside without feeling greasy, while the inside stays tender and juicy. This time we got the curry (pork) katsu set and the chicken katsu set, and both were great. The curry has a little bit of heat to it, but nothing overwhelming. The cabbage slaw that comes with the meal is also a nice touch. It's light and refreshing, and the dressing has a good balance of acidity and richness without being too heavy. We went on a Wednesday afternoon and waited about 15 minutes, which I thought was pretty reasonable. Price-wise, I also think this location is fair for what you get, especially by today's standards. There's another location that opened closer to the SGV, but the prices there are noticeably higher for the same dishes. If I'm already heading toward Gardena or the surrounding area, this is definitely one of the places I'lI make an effort to stop at.
