I recently moved back home to Colorado and started seeing Dr. Cottrell. Dr. Cottrell is very knowledgeable and an expert in problem-solving. I am seeing 20/20 for the first time! He made it simple and easy. I have a very heavy prescription and a challenging stigmatism. I came in because I couldn't wear my contacts and I don't like wearing my glasses because they make my eyes look magnified. Dr Cantrell understood and got me right back into contacts. Now after a slight adjustment, I see 20/20!!! Before I saw Dr. Cattrell I had the wrong contact fit and a prescription for glasses that was way off. I love working with his staff, they are so professional and friendly -- it feels like a family. I hope to grow old with Dr. Cantrell and his office. I don't recommend this optometrist unless/until they hire an adequate amount of front desk staff to answer calls and deal with in-office patients in a timely manner. I had a bad experience trying to reschedule an appointment (after having a difficult time making an appointment in the first place) and am happy there are many other optometrists near us to choose from. read more

The optometrist and the lady who started my appointment were both excellent, very friendly and professional. However, I was caught off guard at the end when I was told there was a $100 fee for the contact lens fitting that no one mentioned when I booked. I specifically asked about Medicaid coverage and extra fees ahead of time, and nothing was said. Because I wasn't prepared for that charge, they wouldn't release my contact prescription. On top of that, the front desk woman, Barbara, was rude and dismissive when I questioned it. It's a shame because the doctor truly was great, but the poor communication and bad attitude at checkout ruined an otherwise good visit. DO NOT ever buy glasses from this place. It's a total scam. They tell you that you have 30 days to return a pair of glasses but it's not true. You don't get the really test them out on whether you like them are not and when you try to make a return the excuse they use is "it's custom made," which just applies to the lenses. I told them I would even be willing to eat the cost of the lenses but I want a refund for the frames. I' was also open to getting a credit to buy contact lenses and it was a no. They are unwilling to work with you in anyway. I gave them another alternative to switch out to another pair of glasses and she initially indicated that could be an option and then said "-actually no." Mind you that this is not a $100 pair of glasses, it's actually over $500. I should have trusted my gut when they were trying to sell so hard on the glasses they offered. I bought one pair and when I came to get them and get them adjusted, I was pushed to buy another cheap pair. This is not an honest business. I had told her that if there's not resolution to this I am going to write an honest and truthful review so others know and her response was "sure go ahead." And of course that would be what she responded with, they already took $600+ from me. read more

I went to this place a few years ago as a first time patient. I was seen by an Optometrist that no longer works there. (six months later) I've seen 3 different Optometrists, The "staff" also seems to turn over very frequently. Seems like each time I visit there is a new DR. & new staff. I paid for my first eyeglasses, $200, and within 6 months, the glasses were literally falling apart. Lenses popped out, frames were loose, etc. they replaced the scratched lens and the next 6 months they were literally falling apart again. 1 year later, I returned to get a new pair. I paid over $500 for these this time, thinking they should be better. (Columbia's) The exact same thing happened to the new glasses. I was told, "the screws fall out from time to time, they just need to be put back." "maybe it's a fluke product and they can waive the warranty fee "this time" and order a new pair." I lost time from work, had to drive over there and I took them in to tighten the screws and the very next day the nose pieces literally just fell off. I called back to complain and see if I can get some sort of compensation or a partial refund but I was told "they can't do that." but "bring'em in we'll try to fix them for you." This does not seem to be a "fluke" thing. They may not be the product makers but they need to stand by their products and claim the insurance for the "fluke" items that go bad. Now i'm stuck with these glasses. Yes, they are very nice and polite but it almost feels like patronizing. You know, when someone just is nice to your face but doesn't mean it! Best eye doctor by far! I used Dr. Cottrell for years. He is amazing, and this staff is wonderful, along with understanding. They are fast and efficient as well. My prescription has never been off. I had to switch facilities this year due to my work's insurance changing, and it was the most painful experience of my life ordering contacts. The customer service was terrible and it is a chain. I highly recommend this place and hope to possibly get my own private plan for VSP or EyeMed to use this facility. read more

I am so thankful to have found Arvada Optometric Center. The staff is so wonderful especially Kay! She made me feel so much more comfortable and calm when going through some scary testing. The front office staff were very kind and helped us to schedule an initial exam quickly (within two days). Dr. Holland was a true joy to meet. Found these guys on Yelp when searching for the best Optometrist in the area. They're just around the corner from the Target by my house, and the accepted my insurance so was a win-win! Every time I spoke with someone on the phone, they were super friendly and helped me reschedule my appointment on more than one occasion. Today I went in for my first appointment. I was greeted right away and filled out my forms, the normal stuff. Just a few minutes wait and one of the technicians (is that what they're called?) helped me do the basic tests (puff of air in the eye and lighthouse etc.) She was friendly and chatty the whole time, and made me less nervous about the air thing. When I met with the Optometrist, I explained how my glasses have been bothering me ever since I got them (over a year ago...), he listened to my problems and then we did the 1,2,3,4 you know the drill thing. He was quick and efficient, but also took the time to explain why my previous glasses were not working for me. He suggested that I try out some newer contact lenses that help with UV light, and will be similar to what I've worn the past few years, also in the same price range. Also, he has a solution for how to fix my glasses issue, as it had to do with my stigmatism in the left eye. The whole experience was really pleasant, I never felt "over-sold" on anything like some of the other options in the area, and even the picking new glasses and payment process was a breeze. I'm super glad that these guys are in the neighborhood and can't wait to try on my new lenses! If you're on the fence about this place, I suggest you give them a go! read more

From the moment I walked in everyone who helped me out was welcoming, knowledgable, professional, and warm. Roger, Marge, and Stephanie were all absolutely wonderful! Dr. Cottrell is one of the finest eye doctors I have ever been to. He has a way of explaining things that is simple and straightforward and he was able to provide me with answers to a long-time eye issue I have had that no other doctor has ever taken the time to explore. Absolutely horrible experience. My appointment was back in September 2021. They were too happy to call me and leave voicemail to make an appointment to get my money. Of course, my eye prescription needed strengthening as we get older. That is not the issue. The person that checked my eyes came across as ill experienced and confused. But I wanted to give this office a chance. Despite informing them of the brand that I always used, they recommended another brand and to try one to help correct my astigmatism. Those contacts turned out not well, so she gave me a trial one of that brand without the astigmatism correction. Those worked a bit better but still needed correcting. I told them that the company I buy contacts from needed a prescription for the brand I am familiar with, and perhaps we could try adjusting power with those. Never heard from them. Called and left messages. Finally, this month in MARCH 2022, yesterday, I took the morning off from work (unpaid, I work over an hour away) and went to the office. They gave me the "special ordered" trial pair from months ago. Throughout the day my eyes hurt as if they were straining, although I was not trying to. I am also nearsighted, and these made me farsighted, and I could not read a thing and even almost got into a car accident! I called today and spoke with their manager Stephanie, and all she wanted to do was debate and argue with me about leaving me a message back in February. I told her I am not interested in arguing with her since obviously there were two different perspectives and neither of us would get anywhere. I have a phone record that shows no such record of anyone from their office or number calling me. She then lied and said one of the girls wrote that my VM said it wasn't working. This is not true, my VM says no such thing and it would not say that if it weren't working. That's beside the point...the fact that the manager just wanted to continue to argue and bleating the point instead of addressing my concern which was my eyes and needed a correct prescription! I was frustrated. I felt I was patient enough, and that they were practicing horribly disgusting customer service. I told her that she was just making me even feel more frustrated and dismissed. I told her to make everyone happy, it would be best to just be refunded and for me to go somewhere else. She said, "No wait, I want your email ...BUT, then debated again about leaving messages..." I could not believe it! This as their manager? This is how they handle their customers?! Really? She wanted to continue to argue about who left a VM or not! I had enough and told her to just refund me. The kicker is that they have my address on file. If at any point they knew I was expecting my lens (which apparently, they claimed they had to special order for me) and if their receptionist claimed that my VM was not working, then the very least was that they could have mailed me a letter!! I don't know why they could not email me or mail me a letter to just inform me that they were trying to reach me IF that was the case. So I knew she was lying, especially giving all she wanted to do was argue about being right instead of moving forward calmly and humbly. And the biggest kicker of all: She even admitted that the doctor's records of my prescription were a mess and that's my lens (which were ordered MONTHS ago) were hurting me because they were the incorrect power, and she admitted that she would have to spend some time to sort through the notes and fix it. What?! That made me furious and even less confident in their services! Why isn't one of the doctors handling this? I tried reaching out to Dr. Cottrell to no response. What an absolute joke that this is how a customer is treated and how an issue is handled by their manager, Stephanie! I'm done with Stephanie's belligerent behavior and excuses as a manager. The office could have mailed me a letter, end of the story. She later emailed me after telling her no, I do not want a prescription, because what new prescription can they give m,e without assessing the new brand and power especially if the others did not work?! This office came across as unprofessional, messy, rude, and they are liable for prescribing me anything that hurts my eyes and not working. I would not trust to go in and continue working with them at this point. It's best if they refund me so I may go to another office that is more professional and actually cares about their patients. read more

Dr. Cottrell is a genius. After seeing many eye doctors who couldn't help me, Dr. Cottrell diagnosed the issue everyone else missed: keratoconus. Thanks to him, I can finally see again. Further, he does a great job with education to help you help yourself. He is never too rushed to explain things, even when squeezing you in for emergency appointments. Miraculously, you rarely have to wait around for your appointment time, either. Even better, his support staff is just as friendly, patient, and intelligent as their fearless leader. I've never had a doctor I trusted and respected more, and I'm 50 so I've seen a few. read more

Dr was very nice and good. Brie was also nice on the phone. However, when I came in for my glasses they were not the transitions I ordered, they were regular clear glasses. Barbara made me wait in the office when I needed to get back to work. I was told that I could leave with my glasses and come back when the new transitions came in. The next day Barbara calls and tells me she needs the frames. This was the day before my trip, and they close at 5pm. So I had to rush in at lunch or I would be without glasses for a very long time. Barbara seemed unconcerned about my time constraints and was not very cordial or apologetic about the problems I experienced. After the transitions came in, I found that they were not very dark. I was squinting when wearing them in the sun. I asked if it would be possible to upgrade to the darker transition flex lenses to which they said yes. I came back today, the new lenses are not any darker than the 1st transitions (see the picture, they clearly too light for any real sun blocking). I talked to Marge trying to explain my concerns. She talked over me several times until I called her out on it. She was unpleasant as well. In my story, I told her that the lenses were from a new lab as Barbara had told me this. She told me I was wrong until she looked into the issue more and found out I was right. She explained to me twice that transitions aren't as dark as sunglasses. I told her that my last pairs of glasses had much darker transitions including the pair I had gotten from them 5 years ago (different lab, much better experience). After coming up 4 times to try to get glasses that I would be satisfied with, I am still dissatisfied as the lenses are not dark enough. Our family moved to Colorado in 2006 and were in need of a good eye doctor who accepted our insurance. We happened upon Doctor Cottrell and his amazing office staff, and haven't once looked elsewhere. From the moment you walk in the door, you will be greeted by at least one staff member, who will most likely remember your name. Dr Cottrell is very thorough and helps us decide what works for each individual in our family. Having a pretty large family, we have had our share of damaged glasses, and the ladies in the office never fail to repair them. Recently, my son wanted a pair of frames that were on back order. I had no idea until they called to let is know his loaner glasses were in. They didn't want him to be without his new prescription. Have I mentioned that we love this place? My kids really liked that Ms Marge and Ms Marilyn (I believe she is retired now, but not forgotten) would always speak to them as the patient, even when they were small. What a great place! I thought that I had something stuck in my eye because my eye suddenly turned very red, stung, and began to water while I was cleaning. I was unable to see out of that eye. I went to the ER on a Saturday and they told me I needed to see an opthamologist ASAP. Well, none were open after 12 on Saturday and throughout the weekend. So, I found Arvada Optometric Center while looking up Optometrists that take my insurance. I called them on Monday and Brie answered, she was so kind. I told her my situation and she told me she could get me in that day. Brie greeted me when I arrived and she was just as sweet in person. She asked how I was doing and how my eye was. She brought me back into a room within a few minutes of getting there. After she asked some questions, Dr. Cottrell came in and he was wonderful. He examined my eye and told me that it was actually an ulcer on my eye. He thoroughly explained what was going on and gave me a prescription for eye drops to help my situation. He seemed truly concerned for my well being and said that he would like for me to come back in a few days to check on my eye. My next visit was just as wonderful. Dr. Cottrell is amazing at what he does and he has amazing staff to complement his business. I will be returning and will also refer my family and friends here. read more
