I am completely amazed at the level of care we were shown. My husband was traveling into Denver from out of town, and experienced an optical emergency that would have rendered him completely disabled for the entire trip. I desperately contacted this office during the early hours of the morning and Dr Lee quickly responded from her personal number. She graciously offered leave her home early and come into the office hours before they opened to help us. I don't know what we would have done without her. She was so kind to us, so eager to help. Don't wear eye glasses myself but my partner frequently stops in. Least lately to pick new eye glasses and a pair of sunglasses. Very good selection. Generally woman's eyeglasses but they do have a single men's section and large unisex selection of frames. Few spots to sit inside and a large amount of parking outside. At times, weekends or evenings it can be hard to park. Nearby shops and Starbucks, mostly the pull in parking is full of self absorbed people not paying attention to other vehicles. Beware! Otherwise pale on the street or a nearby neighborhood and have a nice stroll to the shop. Staff always greet you with a friendly welcome. Helpful for any questions you have but not so in your face/pushy to offend. Frames tend to turn over quickly. From sale or seasonal selection I'm not sure. Leaning more towards sale, so if you see something you love don't hesitate. Definitely my first stop when I'm looking for reading classes as I get older. read more

After many disappointing experiences at chain optometry providers (Visionworks and the like), I was seeking out someone that cared more about their patients and vowed only to go to private practices (non-chain stores). After seeing the positive reviews on here, I made the trek from a suburb on the opposite side of Denver and, thankfully, it was completely worth it. Dr. Le was able to squeeze me in last second and was super helpful when helping me order new glasses and lenses. She sat down with me and explained all the options and helped me optimize my insurance benefits. I'm beyond frustrated with this place. I had a routine eye exam and contacts fitting in June of 2022. I'm still getting sent a bill for what should've been covered by my insurance. They billed it incorrectly and can't seem to get it fixed. I've spoken to their billing person numerous times though 90% of the calls I put in go unreturned. It's impossible to speak with anyone that can/will rectify the situation. I'M SO FRUSTRATED to still be dealing with this more than a year later. With the hours I've put in trying to fix this, it's worth more than the erroneous charge! read more

Very good experience for my first visit to Highlands Eye Care. The staff was welcoming and did the initial consult. Dr. Le was very personable and you can tell she is super interested in eye care and was able to talk from personal experience about a lot of different products since she has tried out a lot of them. I have been wearing contacts for a long time but recently decided to try out daily lenses and Dr. Le was able to recommend a good brand to try and gave me some samples to evaluate. And one of the assistants also gave me a sample of different brand of solution to try if I decided to stick with monthly lenses so that I could evaluate both options to see what I liked better. I'm not the type of person that usually writes a yelp review but I just wanted to put it on here that I will never be coming back in case anyone is on the fence about choosing this place. The initial appointment was OK, however we had a huge miscommunication and I ended up receiving the wrong contact lenses, which was partly my fault but I couldn't understand the doctor anyway. So when I got the wrong contacts in the mail I called Highlands Eyecare to try and get the right contacts. The first woman I spoke to said she would call back that same day with the information I needed. she never did so I called back the next day and the first woman said she didn't know what to do so she got a second woman. That second woman hung up on me. so I called back again and got a third woman on the phone who was very nice and very helpful. After explaining my situation three times to three different people, she said that she would order the right contacts. She told me that I would get a third box because originally I had only received two boxes so I was thinking, great this is going to work out! Then she calls back a few days later and says my contacts had come in so I had an appointment this morning to switch out my contact lenses. I get there and they had the wrong contacts again so I told them those were the wrong ones and eventually after talking to three different people, (AGAIN) they got the right ones, but only two boxes. I explained (to three different people AGAIN) that I was supposed to get a third box like the woman on the phone had told me. Eventually, it did work out, but the miscommunication in that office is truly annoying and unprofessional. I couldn't understand the doctor and the front desk ladies are obviously never on the same page when accidents like this happen. I hate to be that annoying person that leaves a whole book on a yelp review, but I don't want anyone else to experience this the way that I did. read more

This place is terrible. It's run like a used car dealership. They just want your cash. I would never consider going back. So, I made an appointment for the first available time in the morning, thinking they couldn't possibly be backed up if I am the first appointment of the day. Flawed logic. Apparently, the optometrist just kinda shows up when she feels like it, regardless of when your appointment is scheduled. I got to sit and wait. Ahead of time, they had given me this form to measure everything at my desk (how far away was my computer screen, how far away were things I needed to refer to, etc.) and again, thinking it would speed up my appointment, I actually completed this form. My appointment was pretty average. But, then the doc tells me that based on all these measurements I gave her, I am eligible for some kind of super tri-ocular lenses that have no visible lines and will help me see all of the things at my desk. Cool. I went on and picked my frames. I was pretty adamant that I was going to pick frames within what my insurance would cover. They had like one pair, and they didn't even have it in the store, they didn't even have a picture, just a description of what the color might look like. WTF? I was told I'd be called later that day with the price. Well, the price should have been zero, as the frames & visit should have been covered by my insurance. Nope! I got a call that I owed them hundreds of dollars because of these super spiffy lenses I was offered. Not once did they bring up the cost in my appointment or frame selection. Maybe they thought if they showed up late and I was rushing to get out of there and get to work, I would just pay whatever. I said hell no to the lenses and got some crap about how the order was already in. Uh, no, cancel that order. I ordered the basic frames and basic lenses covered by my insurance. When they came in, they called me to come pick them up. Of course, their hours suck, they open after I have already left for work and close before I get home. And, every time I attempted to fit it into my schedule, my anger about the swindling came back and I found other priorities. When I got the call that they were just going to donate my glasses to charity if I didn't pick them up, I finally went in. That was the last time I would cross their threshold. If you don't like to be "sold" or dicked-around, get your eyes checked elsewhere. read more

Incompetent and Unprofessional office staff. Dr. Le is great but the admin and billing staff are the worst I've ever dealt with. They miscoded my annual exam so my insurance wouldn't cover it. Didn't contact me that I has a balance due until 6 months after the exam...which is when I guess the incompetent billing woman was let go and everyone that she did not get billed correctly was served with the outstanding balance rather than contacting the insurance company and getting it billed correctly. Talked to 3 different people who all said they would take care of it, that it was simple to fix. 6 more months go by and I get another bill. Called them Dec. 18thish, 2019 and the girl told me that they were having problems keeping staff and this had just fallen through the cracks and I shouldn't be responsible and that someone would call the insurance company but I should be prepared to pay it b/c sometimes if too much time has passed the insurance company won't pay...and this is my fault how??? So I called the insurance company myself the same day I talked to the eye clinic office and my insurance told me that it had just been miscoded and if they (the clinic) just resubmitted with the right code it would get paid. I called the eye clinic back and told her that and she said "Did you happen to get the code?" Which is so not my job but in hindsight wish I had but don't think anything would have gotten resolved even if I did. She also had the nerve to tell me that I could use my HSA to cover it....again, it already is covered!! So here we are in March and I am STILL getting an overdue balance statement. I guess I have to pay before it affects my credit. So leaving this review so it hits you where it hurts too. Buyer beware!! Do the right thing Highlands and eat it. You are what is wrong with healthcare. read more

As others have mentioned - the customer service is atrocious here. They overcharged me for lenses and when I wanted to get an itemized receipt, the front desk woman wasted a lot of time just not knowing simple office procedures, she had no idea how to print out itemized receipts. The whole time she had this attitude that it was my problem for daring to ask for an itemized receipt. In four years being a customer here, I can say that they have always messed up my order, there's always been something filed incorrectly or wrong charges or bad advice. Once they aggressively pushed some new lens type on me, and when it didn't work for me (had spots on lenses, couldn't see through) - they gave horrendous attitude for requiring them to change the lenses back to what had worked before. I mean, these people are rude, condescending, and inept. My family and I will not be coming back. read more

I went in earlier this summer due to blurriness in my eyes. After running a series of tests, I did not get a diagnosis and I was told to clean out my eyes better. I just got a second opinion elsewhere and I was told that I actually have to get glasses. I'm not sure what the disconnect was but I would not recommend this business to a friend. read more

It was pure luck that I made an appointment with Highlands Eyecare. I lost my prescription sunglasses last weekend and it was time for a checkup. My insurance company had just changed their website and I couldn't find the vision section, so tried doctors by specialty. The closest was listed as Golden. I was about to call and make an appointment there, when I decided to call the insurance agency and see if maybe they could find someone closer. Excellent decision. Not only is the office a block from my house, they are the best eyewear store and one of the best-run places I've ever been. Katherine greeted me and helped me through the initial portion of my visit - she was friendly and personable and set the tone for the whole experience. Dr. Le was thorough and explained everything very well. They told me exactly what my insurance provided and Donna was a huge help in helping me find new glasses (a task I'm no good at and hate doing). Doctors - 5. Staff - 4. Sometimes it seems like the staff doesn't understand how certain benefits work, i.e., what is/isn't covered and how much. Great place though, pretty sure I found it on Yelp way back when I was looking for an eye doctor in my (now old) neighborhood. I live 45+ minutes away now but I continue to see the doctors here though because they are so efficient and make it convenient to get excellent care. 1. They are open Saturdays. 2. They respond to emails very quickly when you are trying to figure out an appointment time, are happy to let you know when there are last minute cancellations etc. 3. We recently moved to the Highlands, and were looking for a new eye doctor. We decided to try Highlands Eyecare, and were extremely pleased with the results. I worked with Katherine (front desk), Dr Chris, and Donna the optometrist. They were all personable, provided excellent assistance and advice, and I'm very pleased with the new glasses they ordered for me. And, for what it's worth, their prices for my fairly pricy glasses turned out to be substantially less than my previous eye doctor. Being self-employed, we do not have eye care insurance, so a good price is an especially good thing for us! Based on our experience, we completely agree with Marin's comments. I've seen both Dr. Hey and Dr. Le here, and they're both extremely conscientious and willing to take time to explain things thoroughly. I've made them my primary eye care providers. They've been very flexible with regard to working with my insurance, trying out different prescriptions, and assisting me with a contact lens emergency even though their office was closed. The office staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Easy on the eyes, too. As a 40-year old who has started to see "floaters" in my eye, I recommend their 3D scanner. It's very helpful to see all angles of your eye and have the doctor explain in very custom, clear detail what's going on with your eye now and what to look out for. The staff here are excellent, and they take good care to explain each test, each step in your diagnosis and helping understand what your prescription means. During my last visit, I did have to wait a bit for the doctor, and they are pretty packed with regular appointments, so you may have to wait to get scheduled. However, they added me to their cancellation list, so I was able to jump ahead a few weeks! Overall a pretty painless experience. Being new to Denver and in need of some new contacts I turned to Yelp to find a place close to home and with decent reviews. I used the online appointment request form to book an appointment, that whole process was easy. Submitted the request and was called within 24 hours to book an appointment. I downloaded and prefilled out the forms from the website. That made the whole check-in process pretty quick and easy. The doctor and staff were easy to talk to and didn't try to upsell me on anything. The price for my contacts was pretty consistent to what I had paid in the past. I picked this place because it is 2 minutes from my house. I saw Dr Hey for my first ever eye doctor appointment and he was amazing. He is extremely knowledgable and helped explain everything they were doing and why since it was my first visit. Maybe every eye doctor has the same equipment but they seem to have lots of machines with advanced technology and then were able to show me all the scans and pictures they took on the computer in the exam room. Dr. Hey was very kind in explaining all of the results of all of the tests. I didn't think I had any vision problems before going in and found that I could benefit from slight correction and Dr Hey did not pressure me into purchasing glasses at all. He suggested it was completely up to me and said that if I did purchase them I did not need all the extra bells and whistles. Donna, the gal who helps you pick out and order your glasses was brilliant. She suggested frames that my insurance would cover and helped picked out ones she thought would fit my face. I chose the first pair she suggested. She told me that she can picture frames on people and this happens to her quite a bit where they pick her first suggestion. I went to this business for an exam because my lasik is not quite what it used to be. It was close to my house and I was working from home at the time, so I could work with their hours, but it would be tough if I wasn't in the neighborhood during the day. I liked the optometrist enough and believe they were honest about not being able to do much to help. She did write me a prescription for the lowest correction possible to sharpen things up a bit. Their frame selection is very low and pricey. I ended up going somewhere else for frames and lenses. read more

Doctors here are great at explaining the care you receive and reasons why they recommend certain things for you. I love that they listen and consider my history and typical behavior when they make recommendations. For example, my doctor listened about how I don't wear contacts often. She followed up by asking questions and realized that I leave them in solution too long. She explained that it may lead to risk for infection, and recommending dailies instead. I hadn't considered this because I thought it was wasteful, but upon reflection it's a much better choice for me considering how often/little I wear them. My only complaint is that I've received help from different office staff nearly every time I've been there. I'm not sure if they have a high turn over or just a high number of office workers, but I really like building a relationship with a whole office team, not just my doctor. read more

Dr. Le was extremely friendly and welcoming, even though I told her upfront that I wasn't going to purchase glasses or contacts from her office (I always do it online) and that I just needed a new prescription. Not only did she give me a new pair of contacts to take home, but said if the prescription didn't feel right that she would fax me a new prescription. I've needed glasses since I was ten, now I'm sixty-five. You can imagine, I've been to about a zillion eye care shops and I can say without hesitation none has been better than Highlands Eyecare. Dr Le is funny and engaging and keeps you calm even after you've done some damage to your own eye. I was recently attacked by a rogue lavender bush and Dr. Le was terrific. I had Lasik about 22 years ago and it's been quite successful but it requires an annual exam (you should get one anyway) and for the past 22 years I've gone back to NYC for that exam. I'm changing that, here on out I go to Highlands Eyecare for my annual. I first went to Highlands Eyecare last year to fill a prescription from my NYC doctor and their selection is amazing and the folks who work there, as well as the Optometrists, are knowledgeable and very helpful. My experience with Highland Eyecare was far from satisfactory. It took over 30 days for me to get first set of lenses and they had numerous reasons why it took so long. Then when I went back because the prescription wasn't correct it took another 30 days and I still don't think the prescription is correct. I will not go back to them!! read more
