Eggplant Parmesan was fire!!! Off the freedoms trail, easy to miss during the daytime as it is off to a side road. We had a reservation so we got a table quickly... we started off with drinks that were good then scallops and the arugula salad for starters. The scallops are certainly the best thing we had!! I like the bar here. The food is good, not great, but the bar is a fun spot to sit at. Friendly bartenders and people sitting at the bar (the bartender estimated to me that over 30% of their business is regulars). I got the carbonara and it was tasty. I was also told pre-COVID this is the place servers from other North End establishments went because the bar was open late. Anyways, I need to try more of the food and see how other dishes are. read more

I had the bolognese and it was really nice. There was a ton of sauce, I think the noodles were pretty good. I'd give the food a 4... it's pretty good food (4), albeit a fairly standard menu...3 for creativity. Our waiter was lively and helpful- 5. Funny though, we called to say we were stuck in traffic. They said fine. Got there and the chap had given the table away. Rudely told me it would be a 30 mins wait. I jumped on OpenTable App, there was an opening for a table right then. The best dish throughout my order is Garlic bread which is not in the menu. Rest of the food doesn't deserve even hard to give 1 star. Shrimp over cooked, simple pasta is undercooked, no salt. Went for lunch and the restaurant was awkwardly empty. Sat in the corner of the room on the right and only 2 other tables had guests. The room was eerily quiet so you could hear the other tables conversations and there were awkward silences throughout the room. Was a hot summer day and could have been cooler in the restaurant. We had a day in Boston and knew from research that we needed to eat dinner in the "Little Italy" of North End. My wife had the forethought to make reservations and we stumbled upon Artu, which is only slightly off the main drag of Hanover. The meal was to celebrate our anniversary, and as we waited for a special table to be available, the hosts gave us glasses of champagne. Our waitress was Jennifer, and she was perfect -- her recommendations for dinner were spot on and we shared a veal dish and the special, a lobster ravioli. Both were amazing!! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcomed and special and that feeling never left. Boston is an incredible city and Artu was the highlighted pinnacle of our day. We've been here twice now, and it's one of our favorites in the North End. First of all, it is one of the few ACTUALLY wheelchair accessible places in the North End, but the bathroom is not- so plan accordingly. The staff is very accommodating and has always made sure our seating worked for us. We've tried the bruschetta and crostini appetizers, the fusili e brocoli rabe, and the carbonara, which remains one of our favorites! The service is wonderful, the drinks are great, and it's a fun, not stuffy but still classy vibe. One of the people in our party wanted one of the dishes with a special request and it was granted with no problem. the only thing I found to be odd, was when the bread is served with packets of butter. I expected some olive oil, or something a little more decadent. I knew there would be plenty of food though, so I wasn't too concerned. We will definitely be back, as I can't wait to have adventures in the North End once the weather gets warm! read more

My boyfriend's sister chose to have her birthday lunch at Artu. We were a group of seven people in total, which was easily accommodated on a Saturday afternoon (very surprising). My first impression upon walking in started out positive and took a quick turn to the negative. Upon walking in and making my way to a separate part of one of their dining areas, I was finally greeted by a frantic host. The host seemed frantic, chased me with menus and tried to pinpoint my reason for visiting the restaurant. She acted as if I was an invader and was confused when I mentioned I was meeting family. Luckily enough, I managed to catch sight of my family and b-lined it to our table. Once seated, our server came over and introduced herself. She was minimally polite and sugar coated her willingness to help us with our menu selections. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed. Each one of the group of us ordered a different dish. I ordered the pasta carbonara, which was not that good. The only delicious part of my entree was the pasta itself. The sauce was lacking in flavor and the pancetta needed to be cooked longer. I have had my fair share of carbonara, whether it is homemade or in a restaurant...I was let down. I was expecting a delicious, creamy bowl of pasta carbonara (considering we were in the North End of Boston, that wasn't too much to ask), which was not what I got. To put it in a nutshell, I was let down. The food was slightly over priced and mediocre at best. I feel like there are better Italian eateries in the North End that was equally priced with higher quality dishes. This was the 3rd awful experience here and absolutely the last. We ordered Uber eats and when the driver confirmed that my order wasn't my order with 2 workers, one short and one large, tall man behind the bar, they ignored his concerns and told him to take the order anyway. I ordered a single carbonara and instead got 2 pizzas and some meatballs. The pizzas were completely dried out and frail looking and the meatballs were just thrown into a container with sauce with an unappetizing smell to them. Could cry I'm so disappointed. Landing in Boston I was hoping to eat my favorite food like north end pasta, specifically chicken Marsala. I called before hand to ask how I could order my meal correctly. Chicken Marsala with linguine. They put red sauce on linguine!!! How am I supposed to combine the two like that? I can't. Maybe overreacting but nothings more disappointing than being so excited for your favorite meal & having it prepared incorrectly. Devastated. On a busy weekend night during the holiday season, we found an open slot at Artu while searching for North End restaurant for dinner. The staff, especially our waiter, was friendly and efficient. The pre-dinner cocktails were well made and tasty. We shared a lovely salad to start and both had great pasta dishes (spaghetti carbonara with pancetta and scampi). My boyfriend and I waited over half an hour for our carbonara and vongole last night even though the restaurant wasn't super packed. My carbonara had fettuccine so it was more like fettuccine alfredo than carbonara... a flavorless fettuccine alfredo. The carbonara and vongole lacked flavor to the point where even though my boyfriend and I put a lot of chili flakes and black pepper on them, it didn't help much. So it was after the NFL playoff games, 11:40pm, and I was wondering what might be open in the North End. By the time I walked over it was closer to midnight. Most of the places still open are on the pricier side and more "cluby" than restaurants IMO. Nice to see a place that is open at that time, and actually "open" for dinner, rather than just the bar. The Scampi Pizza is, without a doubt, the best specialty pizza I've ever had. Big, plump, shrimp, oozing with garlic, just enough cheese to make it a pizza, and all on a crispy, thin, wood-grilled crust that had an awesome, smoky flavor. We came here for lunch on a rainy Friday at around 11:30, so there weren't many people in the place when we got there. The service was quick and friendly and the space (although small) was nice to look at. Aside from the amazing pizza, my 4-year old daughter devoured her spaghetti, my wife really liked the pasta she got (some sort of pasta with sliced sausages and spinach or some other leafy green type thing), and my sister-in-law really enjoyed her pasta as well (something with prosciutto... sorry, so not helpful on those other dishes but, really, all you need to do is get the Scampi Pizza). We also had the crostini for an appetizer, which was nice and garlicky. And finally, they set you up with a nice basket of bread too, not a wimpy 3-4 slice affair, but a heaping serving with refills if you ask. All in all, for three adults and a preschooler, lunch set us back about $50 with tax. read more

Waited for our dinner for around an hour, but was grossly disappointed by my meal. One of my friends found a hair in her bolognese, and the two of us who got scampi had the most rubbery shrimp ever. Obviously I was a baby and not eating off the menu, but since then I've learned on countless occasions that Artu is the most reliable spot in the North End for delicious Italian food. Booked a table for Valentine's night dinner with my wife. We got there a little early expecting to wait at the bar but we were able to get seated right away. Food: Our server was very kind and enthusiastic, gave us specials and his own personal favorites of which I took his advice on. We only got drinks and entres which were generous in their portions. Food was authentic and tasted great. After dinner, we decided to stick around and have a drink (or 3) at the bar which is very cozy and elegant. Drinks were made well and they have a great selection. Must have been divine intervention that I came by here. Whenever I stop by to pick up my kids at school in the North End, I always peel away for takeout at only 2 or 3 places in the whole neighborhood. I'm the type of guy that sticks to only a few favorite places, and rarely veer away. One day, it was just too darn cold to make the trek to my faves, so after I walked passed a church, I slipped into the take-out door of Artu (hence this review is just for the take out section, and not the main restaurant). UNbelievable! The first time I went there, I grabbed a regular prosciutto panini sandwich... and was blown away. I've eaten this many times before in other places, but THIS was different. I'm not sure what they did, but it was fantastic. Out of this world. Soo good, in fact, that I actually took a $15 cab ride from my home just to get a couple different sandwiches yesterday. The menu items are great, and yes, that same prosciutto panini was just as fantastic. I then asked Manuel, the guy at the counter, if he could recommend a favorite, and he suggested an off-menu special- the sauteed sausage with broccoli ravi and garlic. DIVINE! We tried the chicken parmesan and my sister got some other cold-cut sandwich, which I can't remember, but was equally fantastic. LOVE THIS PLACE!
