I'm usually not very picky but I was not thrilled with the food. A lot of what we ordered was lacking flavor, definitely expected more out of a north end restaurant. The food was genuinely mids. Super underwhelming and certainly not worth the price point in my opinion. Our server was great though and the place has a cool vibe. Eggplant Parmesan was fire!!! Off the freedoms trail, easy to miss during the daytime as it is off to a side road. Not crowded during lunch on Saturday when we visited, but so what, I didn't mind that at all! A nice place to grab a quiet and tasty lunch when visiting Boston with a full schedule. read more

I would leave 0 stars if I could. The bouncer was so incredibly rude upon arrival. We are all mid 20s and he was acting as if we all had fake IDs even saying "if I had my scanner...". We proceeded to sit at the bench as there were no other seats while we waited to get a drink. One person in our party had ordered and received a drink. Moments later the bouncer came up to our party and said that we needed to all order drinks and this was not "a hang out spot" very rudely and loudly in front of everyone trying to embarrass us. He even told us we had to leave immediately and repeatedly made comments as we were leaving. I have never been so disrespected and disgusted at such a restaurant. This place was a great find among many choices in the North End! We had a reservation so we got a table quickly... we started off with drinks that were good then scallops and the arugula salad for starters. The scallops are certainly the best thing we had!! For dinner, I went with a calamari and black ink pasta dish. It was delicious and light in comparison to a heavy pasta dish. Overall great find! read more

I like the bar here. The food is good, not great, but the bar is a fun spot to sit at. Friendly bartenders and people sitting at the bar (the bartender estimated to me that over 30% of their business is regulars). I got the carbonara and it was tasty. I was also told pre-COVID this is the place servers from other North End establishments went because the bar was open late. Decided to try Artu's based on a recommendation from the bartender at our hotel and very glad we did. We split the calamari and it was delicious. Light and crunchy with some fried pickles, peppers and spicy carrots mixed in. I had the seared scallops and they were cooked to perfection. My wife had the mussels and they were flavorful and tender. The beet salad could have been a bit less beets and more arugula but still good. Skip the bread and go right to the meal. Overall great food, great service and excellent atmosphere. Highly recommend. read more

We've been here twice now, and it's one of our favorites in the North End. First of all, it is one of the few ACTUALLY wheelchair accessible places in the North End, but the bathroom is not- so plan accordingly. The staff is very accommodating and has always made sure our seating worked for us. We've tried the bruschetta and crostini appetizers, the fusili e brocoli rabe, and the carbonara, which remains one of our favorites! The service is wonderful, the drinks are great, and it's a fun, not stuffy but still classy vibe. One of the people in our party wanted one of the dishes with a special request and it was granted with no problem. the only thing I found to be odd, was when the bread is served with packets of butter. I expected some olive oil, or something a little more decadent. I knew there would be plenty of food though, so I wasn't too concerned. We will definitely be back, as I can't wait to have adventures in the North End once the weather gets warm! read more

I had the bolognese and it was really nice. There was a ton of sauce, I think the noodles were pretty good. It wasn't my favorite, and that might be a noodle problem..but I also think I have some crazy notion that the right bowl of bolognese will change my life someday. Anyway, the ambiance is really nice. My boyfriend's sister chose to have her birthday lunch at Artu. We were a group of seven people in total, which was easily accommodated on a Saturday afternoon (very surprising). My first impression upon walking in started out positive and took a quick turn to the negative. Upon walking in and making my way to a separate part of one of their dining areas, I was finally greeted by a frantic host. The host seemed frantic, chased me with menus and tried to pinpoint my reason for visiting the restaurant. She acted as if I was an invader and was confused when I mentioned I was meeting family. Luckily enough, I managed to catch sight of my family and b-lined it to our table. Once seated, our server came over and introduced herself. She was minimally polite and sugar coated her willingness to help us with our menu selections. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed. Each one of the group of us ordered a different dish. I ordered the pasta carbonara, which was not that good. The only delicious part of my entree was the pasta itself. The sauce was lacking in flavor and the pancetta needed to be cooked longer. I have had my fair share of carbonara, whether it is homemade or in a restaurant...I was let down. I was expecting a delicious, creamy bowl of pasta carbonara (considering we were in the North End of Boston, that wasn't too much to ask), which was not what I got. To put it in a nutshell, I was let down. The food was slightly over priced and mediocre at best. The best dish throughout my order is Garlic bread which is not in the menu. Rest of the food doesn't deserve even hard to give 1 star. Shrimp over cooked, simple pasta is undercooked, no salt. On a busy weekend night during the holiday season, we found an open slot at Artu while searching for North End restaurant for dinner. The staff, especially our waiter, was friendly and efficient. The pre-dinner cocktails were well made and tasty. We shared a lovely salad to start and both had great pasta dishes (spaghetti carbonara with pancetta and scampi). Went for lunch and the restaurant was awkwardly empty. Sat in the corner of the room on the right and only 2 other tables had guests. The room was eerily quiet so you could hear the other tables conversations and there were awkward silences throughout the room. Was a hot summer day and could have been cooler in the restaurant. We had a day in Boston and knew from research that we needed to eat dinner in the "Little Italy" of North End. My wife had the forethought to make reservations and we stumbled upon Artu, which is only slightly off the main drag of Hanover. The meal was to celebrate our anniversary, and as we waited for a special table to be available, the hosts gave us glasses of champagne. Our waitress was Jennifer, and she was perfect -- her recommendations for dinner were spot on and we shared a veal dish and the special, a lobster ravioli. Both were amazing!! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcomed and special and that feeling never left. Boston is an incredible city and Artu was the highlighted pinnacle of our day. The Scampi Pizza is, without a doubt, the best specialty pizza I've ever had. Big, plump, shrimp, oozing with garlic, just enough cheese to make it a pizza, and all on a crispy, thin, wood-grilled crust that had an awesome, smoky flavor. We came here for lunch on a rainy Friday at around 11:30, so there weren't many people in the place when we got there. The service was quick and friendly and the space (although small) was nice to look at. Aside from the amazing pizza, my 4-year old daughter devoured her spaghetti, my wife really liked the pasta she got (some sort of pasta with sliced sausages and spinach or some other leafy green type thing), and my sister-in-law really enjoyed her pasta as well (something with prosciutto... sorry, so not helpful on those other dishes but, really, all you need to do is get the Scampi Pizza). We also had the crostini for an appetizer, which was nice and garlicky. And finally, they set you up with a nice basket of bread too, not a wimpy 3-4 slice affair, but a heaping serving with refills if you ask. All in all, for three adults and a preschooler, lunch set us back about $50 with tax. read more

This was the 3rd awful experience here and absolutely the last. We ordered Uber eats and when the driver confirmed that my order wasn't my order with 2 workers, one short and one large, tall man behind the bar, they ignored his concerns and told him to take the order anyway. I ordered a single carbonara and instead got 2 pizzas and some meatballs. The pizzas were completely dried out and frail looking and the meatballs were just thrown into a container with sauce with an unappetizing smell to them. I called before hand to ask how I could order my meal correctly. Chicken Marsala with linguine. They put red sauce on linguine!!! How am I supposed to combine the two like that? I can't. Maybe overreacting but nothings more disappointing than being so excited for your favorite meal & having it prepared incorrectly. Devastated. Must have been divine intervention that I came by here. Whenever I stop by to pick up my kids at school in the North End, I always peel away for takeout at only 2 or 3 places in the whole neighborhood. I'm the type of guy that sticks to only a few favorite places, and rarely veer away. One day, it was just too darn cold to make the trek to my faves, so after I walked passed a church, I slipped into the take-out door of Artu (hence this review is just for the take out section, and not the main restaurant). UNbelievable! The first time I went there, I grabbed a regular prosciutto panini sandwich... and was blown away. I've eaten this many times before in other places, but THIS was different. I'm not sure what they did, but it was fantastic. Out of this world. Soo good, in fact, that I actually took a $15 cab ride from my home just to get a couple different sandwiches yesterday. The menu items are great, and yes, that same prosciutto panini was just as fantastic. I then asked Manuel, the guy at the counter, if he could recommend a favorite, and he suggested an off-menu special- the sauteed sausage with broccoli ravi and garlic. DIVINE! We tried the chicken parmesan and my sister got some other cold-cut sandwich, which I can't remember, but was equally fantastic. LOVE THIS PLACE! I really liked this place! The atmosphere was nice, and the food was yummy. I ordered the Gamberi Arrabiata, which is shrimp, pasta, capers and mushrooms in a light tomato sauce. I almost licked my plate clean! My companion ordered the Linguine con Scampi (shrimp scampi) which was also pretty delish. This place is fairly reasonable for the North End, although I did think that the portions were a little small given the prices. That's pretty typical in these parts though. You also have the option of subbing gluten-free pasta in your meal for an additional $4, which I declined. The service was ok, our waiter was nice but wasn't too attentive after we ordered our food and drinks (no refills on the water, which I hate). 3 friends and I came here on a Tuesday night during restaurant week. The food wasn't exceptional in any way.. I had the corn chowder soup which was more soup than chowder, the fettuccine with lobster meat, scallops, shrimp etc. Which wasn't superb.. felt very dry. The dessert was amazing!!! Figs with honey and vanilla ice cream. Once you sit they bring bread and butter and only if you ask for olive oil will they bring it with vinegar. Surprising for an Italian place... Overall, pleasant place, close to Haymarket and north station. Nice ambiance, drinks and average Italian food. WENT FOR LUNCH ON A SATURDAY, DON'T PLAN ON GOING BACK! My friend raved about this place ("The best food!") for a while so when I finally had time, we went for lunch. In order for you to understand my experience at Artu, let me break it down for you: 1) Food (2/5): When I go to an Italian restaurant, I at least expect there to be good bread. Needless to say, when the bread basket arrived, I was severely DISAPPOINTED. The sliced bread was DRY and NOT SOFT - probably left over from the day before. I was simply, just bread and I feel like even Shaws has better loaf bread. I ordered the 'Fusilli Con Broccoli Rabe cork screw pasta, broccoli rabe, garlic, evoo, chili flakes' ($15 for lunch). Let me add that I order the chicken and broccoli at EVERY Italian restaurant because a) I love the dish and b) can compare it to other restaurants. The chicken+broccoli here was NOTHING SPECIAL - I have had better at Al Dente. It was just noodles with an oil sauce...the only things going for it were the portion size (leftovers for 2 meals) and the chicken was goldened on both sides. 2) Service (3/5): Standard service, nothing to rave about. We had to ask the waitress for Parmesan on our dishes. 3) Ambiance (1/5): MOST AWKWARD LUNCH atmosphere. First of all, my friend and I were seated in the corner table near the window. The 4 person party behind me was so close that if I whipped my hair back, I would have hit the guy behind me...he was about a foot away from me which was TOO CLOSE. Also, the music was SO LOW that I could hear the conversation at the neighboring table...about how the girl first got braces, etc etc, etc. Freakin' turn the music up in that place...it was TOO QUIET. Bottom line: I would NOT RECOMMEND this place to anyone. The bread and food were SUB PAR...if your food isn't good, you AT LEAST HAVE TO HAVE GOOD BREAD to make up for it!!! My friend later told me that they must only have 2 good dishes: Fruitti de mar and some chicken+spinich. An Italian restaurant can not only have 2 good dishes...all the dishes should be excellent! I wouldn't even attempt to go here again to see if their food is better, rather I'd pick another place in the North End. read more

This is my favorite chicken parm hero in all of Boston. However, they also make slammin Slow Roasted Pork sandwich topped with grilled marinated eggplant. Just buy them both and eat half of each now and the others later, or bring a friend and split em. Its only a short walk down to the waterfront, where a nearby boat club has benches at the end of their pier, where you can sit and eat, its a little hidden though. Just walk to the end of the dock and behing the boat house. There is a sit down restaurant and a take out place right next to each other, obv the take out is cheaper, either one is excellent, just depends on what you're looking for. read more

Quite impressed by this intimate restaurant. I ordered the homemade gnocchi, however as a vegetarian I asked if they could do something special to make it meat free. They did so without any hesitation and the dish was heavenly. Their Artu Cosmopolitan with pineapple infused vodka was one of the best cocktails I have ever had. Terrific and attentive staff.
