"The jersey" steak hoagie with peperoni, LTO cheese and oil and Artones sauce. Fries and chicken fingers
Justin G.

Artones is awesome, I have been eating here since I was a kid. I think quite possibly my grandparents might have even still been around. Back then, Then eventually they closed down for a while yearss ago then one day I noticed they were back up and running, it brought back many memories of being at my grandparents home or my aunts home and getting steak hoagies from them when I was young. I'm much older now but it is still just as good and Imo it is one of the best steak hoagies in Buffalo if not the best. The shop always looks clean and up to par and there is some small seating areas out looking Seneca street. Any time I call to order they are nice and happy to take your order as well as when picking up. They also do pizza and wings and other things you might find at a local pizzeria but the steak hoagies is what they are known for and highly recommend you try their steak hoagies or subs.

The subs I ordered had so little meat on them that if you combined them you'd still be short. I don't know why I went along with it, I should've returned them. They were pathetic and bland, and they totally got away with it because by the time I got home from picking it up and sat down to eat I was not interested in returning into the cold. Don't be misled by the pictures they show. That is not what they look like. Super disappointed.

Shawn's Pizza Reviews REVIEW # 9 ARTONES PIZZA & SUBS SENECA ST. BUFFALO, NY SCORE 7.4 Located near the corner of Seneca & Mineral Springs in South Buffalo, Artones is the home of the original steak hoagie. But this a pizza review, so let's talk about the pizza. First off, they had plenty of employees working and were all really friendly even during a busy hour as it was an hour before the Bills AFC championship game. The pizza was cooked perfect in my opinion. As for overall taste, I would say above average but the sauce could've had more flavor. I was pretty impressed as this is a place that doesn't get talked about too often due to having a more "popular" Wise Guys down the street. I would definitely recommend Artones if you are in the area!

Of all the degrees people get i prefer the art ones

Between Science-type students and Art-type students, I prefer to get laid with Art-ones. I expected to like this place a little more than I did. I'm not big into steak sandwiches, but when it's done right I could absolutely love it. For example, the Sinatra at Marco's on Maple. I found this one to be mediocre at best and probably not even that. It's also extremely overpriced, so I end up having to give it three stars. The pizza wasn't very good either and it doesn't help that when I came back in to pick it up, the guy tried to charge me a second time. When I told him I had paid he got paranoid and went into the back to check that I had actually paid.

One of my favorite places to get take out, friendly staff, food is good, I ordered a whole sub ham & cheese half cheese of course for me with lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, oil, no onions toasted... nice & crispy .... If your in the area stop by to get a slice, or try there specials.

No mas!

Had some business to attend to in South Buffalo and dropped in to check out this place's slices as they were opening. Slices were hot, right out of the oven but completely tasteless. Very mediocre. Couldn't even make it thru one slice before i pulled a Roberto Duran and cried, "No mas!" i'd rather go 15 rounds with sugar Ray Leonard before i attempt another Artone's "special". There are innumerable pizzerias like this one in Buffalo that claim they coulda been a contender but instead deserve a one-way ticket to Palukaville. Next please...

This place has been here since I was a boy and I'm 40 now they shut down for a while which devastated the community of South Buffalo but opened up better than ever and going stronger than ever I used to weigh 585 lb now I'm down to a slender chubby 310 lb I still like to eat bad food but I try to keep it healthy as much as I can I come here for the chicken hoagie cut up chicken breast green peppers onions provolone cheese simple yet delicious yet not totally artery-clogging this place is great friendly service prompt service very affordable as well worth the drive if you want a good chicken or steak hoagie

When Artone's closed its doors several years ago, the elation and cholesterol levels of South Buffalonians sank overnight. The neighborhood felt thrust back into the dark ages of flavorless, unsatisfying food sub shops and corner food marts. I'm very pleased to report that Artone's is open again! It's under new ownership, but from what I gathered it is the same recipe, ingredients and cooking/preparation as the old Artone's. Although I can't really remember exactly how good the steak hoagies used to be at Artone's - It has been years since I or anyone has had one - I can tell you that the only beat the new steak hoagie model skips was of my upper right ventricle in my heart (don't worry, Mercy hospital is a short drive away). Artone's steak hoagies are just the right amount of gooeyness to greasiness ratio of cheese and beef, with an ample amount of perfectly sautéed peppers and onions rolled into a soft sub roll and topped with a special sauce. You can't say you've ran the gauntlet of Buffalonian food until you've had one, so go get to it.

Five stars hands down!! Steak hoagies are the best in buffalo. I used to live next door and got them many many times. I'm not a huge fan of the pizza but the chicken wings and hoagies make up for that.

Naked City Pizza - 3 cheese steak

Naked City Pizza

I'm always on the lookout, keeping my ear to the ground, for great pizza places in Buffalo…read more Although sometimes, I just want to try some place new. I had heard good things about Naked City Pizza, so I decided to take a break from my usual spots and give them a try and overall, I am very pleased! I called around 4:45pm on a Saturday and a gentleman took my order. He was courteous and friendly and said my order would be ready in 25-30 minutes. I arrived about 30 minutes later, easily finding a parking spot in their large parking lot, which is a mixture of pavement and dirt/gravel. Walking inside the shop, it's similar to most Buffalo pizza shops where it's relatively small and really about take-out, not for dining in. There were a few young guys working the counter and ovens, they were able to get me in and out quickly. From the limited time I was inside, the workers were friendly enough, they seemed to get along well. For dinner, I ordered a Quarter Sheet (6 slices) Steak and Three Cheese pizza but the gentleman who took my order over the phone put my order in as a Half Sheet (12 slices). They realized the mistake too late and gave me the Half Sheet for the Quarter Sheet price! I really do appreciate that, it's great customer service. I have half a pizza leftover for a quick dinner now! Naked City Pizza nails the traditional Buffalo-style with a doughier undercarriage and nice crispy, chewy crust. The dough was airy but it didn't seem as "heavy" as many other pizza places around Buffalo, but maybe I was just REALLY hungry. haha For their steak pizza, it seems like they use thicker pieces of steak, which was great, definitely felt more substantial. Most steak pizzas come topped with banana, hot, or sweet (bell/green) peppers, but Naked City uses roasted red peppers, which are sweet and have a more distinct flavor and softer texture - I was impressed, this paired VERY well with the other components! Along with them, there's also onions on top. The three cheeses used are cheddar, mozzarella, and parmesan, which of course are delicious. In addition to the roasted sweet peppers, the other component that I was surprised by was the white garlic sauce as the base. Steak pizzas around Buffalo vary from using a "hoagie oil/sauce" to just a huge variety of cheeses, no base sauce of any kind. I tend to stay away from white sauce on pizza as it's usually associated with garlic (I don't want my breath to be too... fragrant haha), but this wasn't too garlic-y, I didn't feel like I was "wearing it". I enjoyed the added creaminess the white sauce added to this pie. After six slices, I stopped myself and put the other half in the freezer. The six slices I had were delicious and filled me up nicely - The squares were cut nicely and they were plenty filling with tons of meat and cheese. I have a feeling these will reheat in the oven nicely. Looking at the prices, I was impressed too with how affordable Naked City Pizza is! All-in-all, I'm glad I gave Naked City Pizza a chance and had a great experience! The staff are friendly enough and quick, it's easy to get in and out quickly, and the pizza is traditional Buffalo-style so it's on the heartier end while being affordable. I look forward to ordering and trying a red sauce pizza from Naked City Pizza to see how sweet their sauce is.

Loved it. Pizza was awesome, crust was really good, everything was really fresh. Totally recommend…read moretrying the pizza if you haven't. Not really any I side seating, but outside tables if weather cooperates. And a decent size shared parking lot next door. A little pricey but with the dough

Firm, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, red onions, crostini, and dressing that all complemented each other perfectly. Refreshing and delish! The Affogato...AffoMazing!! I haven't been to Italy in a little while, but this pizza was freaking close, if not spot-on, when it comes to authenticity! Brick-oven baked with a light crust, chunky real tomato sauce (forgot to ask if it was home-made), just the right amount of cheese, and REAL pepperoni and sausage. And did I mention...very little grease?! The taste was light, fresh, and not overly filling, just right! Overall, Forno Napoli was a fantastic choice! Great atmosphere, warm service, fresh food, and pizza that brought back a little taste of Italy. Definitely worth a visit! Ciao

I think we got 10 slices, and ended up getting 2 more slices of the Buffalo Chicken to take home - yes we ate pizza for 3 days and so worth it lol. When you first enter, there is a phenomenal selection of specialty pies, and all are included in their two slice & soda special for $9. They offer both fountain sodas and a generous selection of refrigerated drink options also. Once you order, there is a back dining room with several different size tables, but all with Bills chairs, which is a neat trend we loved seeing in this area, despite being from Florida. The man who greeted us was kind helpful and I was impressed with the pizza options. We ordered: - Buffalo Chicken: had a really good flavor & was my favorite! - BBQ Chicken: my son loved it - Margerhita: also had a good flavor - Pickle: the best we've had by far - Beef Pattie: looks like a Jamaican one but isn't spicy and had a very strange almost veal or lamb taste. Overall the flavors of the pizzas were really very good, but unfortunately every slice was so overcooked and burnt that it quickly overtook the great flavor of each bite. Now, the thing is, everyone likes different kinds of pizza, and apparently Brooklyn style isn't necessarily our jam, but for something we really don't like (black crust), it was still very good and we would highly recommend it to people who like more cooked pizza.

Another great pizza spot for the books…read more I'm honestly surprised how different Buffalo pizza is compared to Jersey and NYC. You'd think they would be pretty similar, but Buffalo definitely has its own style. I'm a truck driver and was hauling a load from Buffalo to North Carolina, so finding a good pizza spot where I could get a 53-foot tractor-trailer close enough was a challenge. Somehow I got lucky and found a nearby no-parking bus stop for a very quick stop. If you look at my picture, you can actually see my 18-wheeler peeking out from behind the bushes. I ran inside, ordered two pepperoni slices for $10.98, and was surprised by how huge they were. I was expecting NYC-style triangles but got big rectangular slices instead. The crust was crisp underneath with a soft, chewy interior, the sauce-to-cheese ratio was really good, and the crispy cup-and-char pepperoni was easily the highlight. The sauce had a slight sweetness without being overpowering. I also asked for ranch but ended up with Bleu cheese instead, and honestly I'm glad I did because it was really good. The place was clean, the service was quick and friendly, and the pizza was excellent. If I'm ever back in Buffalo, I'd definitely stop here again.

Only being able to eat one of the two my hankering for pizza was satisfied shout out to that incredible bleu cheese for making those last few bites even more amazing. This is still top-tier elite level pizza for Buffalo.

The pizza and service are exceptional…read more I had heard there were vegan options but didn't see anything on the website. Their sister pizzeria, Pizza Florian in East Aurora, had a separate vegan menu so I was hoping for the same. That is not the case here. Our server said any pizza could be made vegan, meaning they could swap out the cheese for vegan cheese but any other non-vegan items (meat, specially cheeses like stracciatella) would be omitted. That's fine, though not ideal. Same with the $2.50 upcharge for vegan cheese- makes sense all other things being equal but if whole ingredients are being left off, it adds to the sting of not getting a similar experience for thoughtful seasonal pies. In the end, the pizza is so delicious it's hard not to give 5 stars. We had a Neopolitan and a Detroit style. The dough on both was incredible and magical and really the star of the pizza. The vegan cheese is great - did not remind me of any common store brands. The toppings accent the crust rather than the crust being just a vehicle for toppings. Lots of seasonal items, so go often.
