I found this shop on a whim when looking to get two of my European lights converted. This store is an absolute gem, and I am so sad that the owner is retiring. He is extremely knowledgeable about his craft and is just so, so kind. I wish I had found his shop sooner. In addition to fixing my lamps, I also purchased one of his chandeliers. Brought my 1930's floor lamp in to have the switch assemble replaced. Brought it in on a Saturday and was told it would be ready any day after Monday. Came in after Monday and there it was. Works perfectly. Great service and the owner definitely knows what he is doing. I also spoke to the repairmen and they were very friendly. I spent two weeks calling around to find someone to repair my brass floor lamp. So of course, sometimes you reach someone, sometimes you don't. I received a phone call from a number I didn't recognize. I answered it (usually, I don't). It was the owner of Artisan Lamp who said that he was up on a ladder and missed the call. I was pleasantly surprised. I took my lamp out the next day. He repaired it in about 20 minutes, and I was on my way back home. The gentleman is very pleasant. While the clock was being repaired, I spent the time looking at all the interesting items in the shop. If you need a lamp repaired....go there!! I bought my ten-year old Pottery Barn lamp in for repairs on Friday. I had it back in 24 hours and it was not only repaired - and for a pittance compared to the cost of a new lamp - it was improved. The dimmer had failed. They replaced it with one that could be detached from the lamp; now I can plug the lamp directly into an outlet or plug it into the new dimmer and let that be the connection to the outlet. They treated my $150 lamp like it was a pricey item from their own stock. If I am ever in the market for really high end lamps, I know where I will shop. read more

I called every place in DC looking for parts to fix this customers issues...they all did not know their business or what they were talking about..I had to drive to each one to find out they were inaccurate...finally my last place to call because they were all the way across DC from where I was..I called Artisan Lighting and he said to come down he would help me..it was across town at 5:00pm on a Friday...well when I got there he had what I needed got me taken care of and sent me on my way...he was a very helpful, honest and confident business man..I will NEVER waste my time going anywhere but here for my lighting needs while in DC again..he is a goto man and I as a service person have a great appreciation for a man and business such as Artisan.. I dropped off a lamp for repair on 2/23/2019 and hadn't heard back at all, six weeks later. Voicemail is full and on two trips back to the store, it was closed. I have no idea what is going on (did something happen to the owner?) but I'm now trying to figure out how to get a family member's antique lamp back. Very unhappy- I hope the owner is OK but definitely don't plan on taking anything here anytime soon. read more

I called to see if he had a part in stock, and he said to come on down and pick it up. When I showed up with my lamp, he suggested that he could fix it for me for $200. I said it was not a tough job and I'd just like to get the parts, at which point he refused to sell them to me. Dishonest and greedy. Watch your wallet if you deal with these folks. read more

I went in looking for several replacement glass lamp shades for three cast iron floor lamps that I have been refinishing. The two older men were unbelievably rude to me after I waited about ten minutes for someone to help me, then told they do not sell any of the thousands of stock shades on display...when I asked where I could expect to find any - he told me online but that they are really hard to find. Not once did they offer to help repair my lamps or even ask if I needed help. Zero customer service. Also, the most ridiculously overpriced and cheaply refinished lamps for sale strewn about on some tacky pedestals. This place is a joke! read more

A very nice old world kind of store, I brought in a lamp and had the bulb insert repaired and they did it in twenty minutes and I did not want a three way so they made it for a one way 60 watt bulb. The next day I brought in a second one. It was $20.00 per lamp and well worth it. I was able to look at the lovely vintage lamps and chandeliers they had while I was waiting. I recommend that one go on a week day and by 9:30 to not have to deal with parking in Cleveland Park which can be a real problem. This is a great place and I would recommend it to anyone. I have gone to Artisan Lamp twice recently. The first time I had a lamp that would not light and the gentleman fixed it immediately at no charge. I'm not sure what he did, but he came back within minutes and the lamp was fine (still works). I was very happy and ended up buying some small lampshades for a chandelier. I later priced them and found that they were extremely reasonable and good quality; silk/linen shades. I went back in a couple of weeks ago to repair a lamp that was made by an artist. The total cost to repair was around $16.00. The person who helped me (an older gentleman) was very polite and accommodating. This is an old-fashioned place that does excellent repair at extremely reasonable prices. If I had more lamps to fix I would definitely take them there. I have an old lamp that fell and snapped when I moved. I had numerous people tell me it was a lost cause because the piece was either stuck into the lamp with a bolt or it was welded in. Because the lamp is an antique I decided to see if it was worth fixing so I took it to Artisan Lamp looking for an estimate. (I had called ahead to make sure they were open and willing to give me an estimate). They quoted me $20 and said I could wait or come back in 45 minutes. When I returned I asked about lamp parts because I had another lamp's switch come off. They gave it to me for free!!! While these guys specialize in high end (signed original bronze figurines for thousands of dollars, rare lamps for the same) they also are a pleasure to work with for the more common man or woman who just needs help with the lamp that makes their living space work. This morning, my electrician showed me that the wiring of my wall sconce was dangerous and strongly urged me to get it fixed. A truly amazing local business for lamp repair. Can I give them a sixth star! They have beautifully repaired several pricey lamps and a chandelier for me over the past year. The work was done quickly (usually the same day), perfectly, and at a very fair (even low) price. A mover carelessly damaged my chandelier and within a few hours they had it repaired, rewired, and hung even though a new electrical box to take its weight needed to be installed. This level of service is beyond my wildest expectations. They have an interesting, mainly vintage selection of lamps that also seem to be very well priced. I only wish our taste in lamps were a bit more compatible (please stock Christopher Spitzmilller, Hwang Bishop, Visual Comfort) and I would buy all my lamps here as well. read more

I agree with Susan who wrote, "finally a place to fix a amp in DC!!" This morning I had a really good experience there. I have a heavy floor lamp that wasn't working and was told to bring it around to the alley in the back of the store and Artisan sent someone out (in the rain!) to take it in. When the owner examined it, he said it only needed a new socket and I should wait for it. Within less than 10 minutes the lamp was fixed and the fee was very reasonable. I will certainly go back. Finally - a place to fix a lamp in DC !!! No more trekking to VA or MD. A local hardward store recommended Artisan. They replaced the socket within 1 1/2 hours for $20 - and were very nice, to boot. My husband and I have been going to Artisan for years, both to buy Art Deco chandeliers for our home and to get help when repairs have been needed. In both categories, we have consistently been pleased. Their selection of Art Deco chandeliers is terrific - no schlock, just first-ratepieces in good shape and representative of the period. When asked, they have been flexible in price. Their service has always been exemplary; price reasonable, work on-time and knowledgeable. They are more than willing to give free, useful advice.If you speak nicely to them, they were most helpful. Contrary to older yelp posts, we found Artisan staff exceedingly helpful and their products reasonably priced. Called ahead looking for a specific style of lamp shade; they said they had a small selection of same. When we arrived, they promptly pulled down the options they had, grabbed a bulb, politely suffered through our ruminating on which one we preferred as we had them switch back and forth between the shades, AND, ground down the bases of two new standard harps to fit the saddle/harp holder braces of our lamps. Shades were half the price of comparable shades at the store on river road (whose haughty service I found consistent with the negative reviews given in yelp); harps less than the hardware store price. A very pleasant experience--recommend them to others. read more

Right on Heming, Over the years we bought 3 chandeliers, 4 wall sconces, 1 lamp, 2 pendants, many shades and had one chandelier re-wired. In all, we gave these people over $10k including during the period 2008-2010 when they were selling almost nothing and they were complaining about the recession... We moved to Naples FL and in the process some cristals were broken. I asked John if I could have them replaced. The arrogant a....told me to go online. When I asked which sites his answer was that they would not sell direct to me. I finally found someone in Los Angeles who provided me with the cristals "Chandeliers service of America". Matin is a very nice chap and want to satisfy his customers. Recently, we broke 3 cristals. I asked John again, if he could sell me 3 cristals, after a long rant, he told me to send him a scanned picture of the cristals. I did it with a receipt. This was 10 days ago and I haven't got any acknowledgement of my message. I finally found KingChandelier in NC, they kindly sent me the 3 cristals, no sweat.
