Came here for an impromptu Monday evening dinner with my partner. We started off with the kale salad which was a nice veggie option, but felt the dressing was lacking the traditional Caesar taste. We had the wild boar ragu which had a slight gaminess that I love. The pasta was very tasty but definitely not a dish to reheat since it is a bit oily. I forgot the name of the pizza since it was on the specials menu but it was pretty good as well. I wish it came with more of the bagna cauda (Italian garlic/anchovy dip) since I could hardly taste it. Overall we enjoyed our meal and will be back! read more

Im not a tomato expert, but the sauce on the Margherita pizza was phenomenal. Mozzarella was really quality and I couldn't stop eating slices. The tomato to cheese ratio was solid. Minor flop helped you make a great first bite of each and every slice. I would suggest getting some extra mozz or something to help put down the excess of crust. Either way it was a very nice dough (just a lot of it). They take a break from making pizzas at 3:00 on weekdays but I believe they continue to make other foods on their menu. They have 3 or 4 beers. None on tap, but all solid choices. I drank a Tonewood Freshies (South Jers represent). The ambiance and layout of the restaurant and location is really well-planned. I am a huge fan of Arturo's sister restaurant, The Bread Stand, so I was looking forward to coming for dinner last night. I arrived at 6:30 pm and the wait was 45 minutes to 1 hour for a table for two. I put my name on the list and was told to come back after 30 minutes. Luckily, 30 minutes later, a table was available, but I wish the restaurant had a system that texted when the table was available because it definitely gets super busy during dinner hours! Despite the fact that some of my pizza crust was burnt, i enjoyed my pizza last night when I visited. The flavors of the pizza were bursting with flavor. Also, as the restaurant is BYOB, I didn't miss a cocktail since I had delicious hibiscus tea! I would certainly recommend trying it out, but I suggest getting there early since they do not take reservations. read more

I'll start by saying that I really do love their food, specifically their pizza. That said, maybe I've been unlucky with the service, but every time I've come, the servers lack A LOT of customer service skills. It's as if they are all moody teenagers that don't smile, and quite frankly, are a bit robotic. It's very strange. And I've observed this every time I've come for lunch time. And since it's happened often, I'm convinced it's bad training, or bad hiring or bad management. Either way, something to be mindful of when coming to this place. Wow! This place was amazing! My wife and I live close by and thought it would be nice to enjoy a date night at this very vibrant restaurant. The staff were very warm and welcoming. The pizza was the closest thing to Brooklyn pizza in NJ. You can taste the spices and seasonings in every bite. The drinks were also delicious and very nice compliment to the meal. This was my second visit to Artie's. I was really wanting to go back after our first visit where we discovered it on a whim. Great pizza, great atmosphere. So when we had to think about a family-friendly place to celebrate a birthday, Artie's was on top of the list. The food and table service were great, but this review is about the frustrating and condescending treatment from the manager or owner. We had called ahead the day before to confirm we could bring a birthday cake and were told that was okay to do so. But then on the day of, we were told that it was not acceptable and we couldn't serve the cake at the table. We had offered to pay extra, like a "corking" fee, but were declined. We were told that, "We don't do that here. We have pastries and desserts so you can buy it from us." When she decided to make an exception for us, she told us it would have to be done discreetly, but they wouldn't provide extra plates and utensils (and I'm describing this much more diplomatically than she stated it), so we ultimately decided not to have the cake there. If we knew when we called ahead that it wasn't allowed, we would have made other plans or just planned to order dessert. We know that not all restaurants allow this, which is why we called ahead to check. The manager's attitude just left a bad taste and soured what was supposed to be a celebratory experience. There are other ways to manage such a situation and this was not it. Won't be back. read more

"Artie's" is no Arturo's anymore unfortunately. Quality of food and ambience have gone downhill. Used to love coming to downtown Maplewood and always having a consistently good experience from the friendly service to the delicious food. Tonight was a big "swing and a miss", pizza overcooked, lacked any flavor and was a major letdown. Meatballs tasted stale/dry and seemed to be made a week prior. We were checked on by our waiter well after the food came out. Probably our last attempt at reliving the past Arturo's experience. Friday night dinner experience. Located in a upbeat neighborhood with bunch of restaurants colocated. It was a 45 minutes wait but we stood around there and turn came in 30 mins. Fast service overall buy because of BYOB, customers were enjoying their meal and drink at slow pace. Coming to food, it comes fast and fresh. Quality of ingredients can be tasted and servers were happy and friendly. Ordered the Margarita and white pizza with mushrooms, both were flavorful. Little more salt would help, but that's personal preference. Must visit again for us, and need to bring our wine with us to enjoy !! read more

Same as Arturo's in Maplewood Village but new location. Food is delicious as always. I'm happy for them that they moved to a larger location as the old spot was very cramped. There's some new items on the menu, including dessert options, along with old favorites like meatballs, the kale Caesar salad, and crostini. We came on a Wednesday night at around 5:15 just after they opened for the evening. Service was very good. I worked at Arturo's about six years ago as a server. Back then, there were a lot of rules about "don't do this/that". I remember having constant anxiety being there. The place was so tiny you were always on top of customers and other staff. Their only bathroom was located at the back of the restaurant through a tiny hallway. It was very uncomfortable. Food has always been outstanding though and that's what's kept us coming back. The new vibes at Artie's are so much better than they were at Arturo's. It seems like they hired a brand new staff and have a much more laid back approach to everything. It's still a very much well run restaurant. They know what they're doing and I'm sure they have high expectations for their staff as they always have. Artie's seems more welcoming and friendlier overall. We'll definitely return. Love the new space ! Location is not as convenient as the last one, but the huge open concept of the new spot would not have been possible in SOMA village. The food continues to be top notch -- artisanal pastas from scratch coupled with savory sauces bursting with flavor, pizzas made to order with just the right amount of toppings on a sumptuous crust perfectly balancing fluff and crust, and both unique as well as classic salads that are nailed every time. I have to downgrade my review after my first visit to the new spot. I really liked my bread stand on its own, nice little walk to a smaller, intimate place that was really friendly and an overall enjoyable experience. Now with the merger it's lost that charm, place seems a little too big and impersonal, kind of reminds me of a high school cafeteria. Foods good, no doubt there, service is as good as ever and I'm sure they'll do well, maybe a little more parking but that's going to be tough. "You're to blame ....." Utterly dismal experience at the "new" Arties (formerly Arturo's, now quite a way out of downtown Maplewood). We've all seen the reviews on Yelp from the folks who are never happy with anything, but I assure you, I'm always happy, just look at my reviews .... but honestly, this "took the biscuit" so to speak. Waited an hour to get a table for five (two adults, three kids over 11 years old) ... no problem at all, we're patient, we get it - quality over quantity etc. We got seated at a very small table, normally for four ... ok, we'll make this work. We wanted to order 3 pizzas but thought there's no way they're going to fit on this table. We ordered two and an appetizer. Pizzas came first, appetizer second (which was also the wrong app). Kids went for the pizza and hey, pizza falls off the table because there's no room. Then, a glass falls off the table ... because there's no room! At this point I go to the front and ask for some assistance. I was told "well, we did give your wife the choice whether she waits for a bigger table or not". I asked to speak to a manager, someone who could maybe empathize with our situation, and I was told there are multiple managers and she was one. Draw your own conclusions here ... marriage is no easy ride (lol) but I draw the line at blaming my wife for this! After clearing up the pizza and glass we got a bigger table and from that point onwards we're totally ostracized by the staff. We had to ask for cutlery, water, anything .... We were also clearly being "talked about" ... sure that's hearsay but look at my other reviews, I'm not a trouble causer and not a paranoid freak! We were eventually asked "what can we do to make this better". Wrong question. Don't ask us. You decide what the appropriate action should be ... to cut a long story short we got some free desert (a couple of pieces of cake and we asked for the incorrect app to be taken off - oh, and they also took off an $8 beer). The whole thing sucked. I even feel bad writing this ... I hate complaining (truly) - but just a really crap experience and unnecessary - one that any decent establishment who cared about its customers would have handled better. Half assed apologies, no one really caring about how people feel .... and all for $100+ pizza for 5 ..... I realize it's early days but want to be honest with you guys about where you are right now .... Hopefully we were the exception but looking at other reviews maybe now. See you next time - good luck! If you were a fan of Arturo's (who wasn't!?) then Artie's is for you! Pretty much the same exact restaurant only bigger, louder, worse parking and no longer a BYOB. Food was very good but I was disappointed that the new space didn't bring some new menu items. Beet salad and sausage pie were highlights for me. The space has a chic industrial vibe but found it a bit too loud (granted a busy Saturday night) and slightly dark. Vibe was very bustling. Unfortunately, the service was adequate at best. read more

I would give 4.5 stars but Yelp does not allow half stars. Pizza and pasta was very good. Large space which allows a good number of people. When arrived on a Friday night around 8 PM was told it would be about 45 minutes but wound up being only half the wait. Lots of a half star as location is more industrial location with not much in the way of retail around. This loss of activity means you are walking down quiet empty streets. Happy that they have a wine and bar- the white wine I had was perfect. I like the atmosphere and the bustling vibe as the original, though cozy, was too small for how popular it was. We'll be back. They have a parking lot in the back FYI. We got there at opening for dinner on Sunday for which there was a line but enough tables to be seated when the doors opened. read more

Overall: 4.5/5! Would totally come again. Came in hungry with my brother in the afternoon for a late lunch, and ordered the following items: 1. Side of bread (4/5): Great quality bread and a nice crunch to the crust! Olive oil was just okay, nothing too special. Only complaint is that I wish the bread was cold when it got to our table. 2. Meatballs (5/5): A MUST get here! Meatballs were perfectly tender and moist. Not too salty, and the sauce was amazing. No complaints at all. 3. Buccatini (4/5): Noodles were PERFECTLY al dente. Sauce was oil based and garlicky with a subtle hint of citrus and touch of heat. The menu said this had bottarga in it, but not sure if I was able to detect the taste since I've never had it before. Overall, very good, but it did feel like something was missing. I added some parmesan, which helped, but still seemed to be missing some oomph to the overall flavor. 4. Margherita pizza (4.5/5): The pizza had a crispy underside, and the crust was chewy - loved the dough! Mozzarella was good too. Pizza sauce was perfect for my tastebuds: not too sweet, and flavorful. I just wish there was a tad bit more sauce and maybe a little more basil leaves. Also some crushed red pepper flakes to mine and it was nearly perfect. I don't really let service/ambiance affect my reviews, but no complaints on these aspects of the restaurant! read more

Crust is perfection; Chewy, blistered, flavorful, slightly crisp. The toppings are noticeably high quality, esp cheeses and sausage. Lovely that they actually salt their pies as well. Sauce could be brighter and more intense, but that's about the only nitpick here. read more

A former colleague who is a real pizza snob is always on the lookout for good pizza when far from his home in PA so I brought him here based on a friend's recommendation and a slew of good reviews. Busy, seemingly chaotic but in fact very smoothly run, this corner BYOB pizza / pasta place in picture-postcard Maplewood is a gem. The pizza was delicious, the greens (collard?) in parmesan and garlic were amazing, as was the creamy penne. Stoked to have arties closer to home and not having to try and find parking in downtown maplewood a huge plus. very friendly staff. The bakery/lunch menu is awesome. I can't rave enough about the croissants, focaccia and seasonal danishes, and the avocado Sandwich is simple but perfect. Then you get to dinner... any pasta on the menu is a must try, recommend the orichette. The kale cesar is my favorite salad probably ever. I'll also say, you DO NOT have to travel to jersey city to get NJs best pizza. The pizza here is great. The only thing I think they could work on is the drink menu, which I understand is new for them. I do miss the BYO a little but I'm confident they'll get a handle on the drinks soon. I arrived a few minutes to 4pm and they just had sandwiches available while they setup for dinner. I had a Mortadella sandwich. It contained Mortadella, local brie, homemade mayonnaise, and piparra pappers. I am not really into sandwiches but this sandwich changed my mind. It was soooo good. Every bite tasted better. But the wait was definitely worth it! We ordered a margherita pizza and a custom pesto jalapeño Bianco pizza and both were delicious ! I would rate the pizzas amongst the best thin crust brick oven pizzas I have ever had. Not every meal will be satisfactory. After having Arturo's bookmarked for yearsss, we were excited to try it out when they reopened their doors. We came in at 6pm when it was sunny and got a table outside, but soon after an unexpected storm started to brew. After having just a few bites of our salad, the downpour of rain made it's way onto the tables and everyone squeezed under the tented parts of the outdoors. The waitress said our pizza was just about to come out so they boxed it up for us to go... but we asked to wait for a table inside. Other parties were seated inside, but we had no such luck. We waited about 25 minutes and the rain finally went down to a drizzle so they sat us back outside. They kindly offered to make us another pie, which we took them up on so it was fresher. We got the Tartufo Pie, which I was soo underwhelmed by. I like my food highly flavorful so I was very disappointed that you could barely even taste the truffle. The mushrooms were flavorless and the complimentary jalapeños weren't spicy at all... had to ask for red peppers flakes to give this 'za some flavor. Let's talk service. I want to give the service the benefit of the doubt because it seemed like other staff members were more diligent with their customers, but our waiter was in too much of rush to listen to us. From the start, he didn't bother telling us the specials and he mindlessly cut us off multiple times and even walked away while we were still mid-sentence. Then, I was SO disappointed to have received the bill and see that we were charged for the salad... $13 for a salad that the manager took out of my hands and said he'd get us a new one but didn't. Our waiter also said he'd get us a new limonada that we lost due to it down pouring on our table, but didn't and we got charged for that too.... I kindly voiced my concerns and the waiter offered to send us with the salad to go. Because I refused, he got rid of the charge for the salad. Although we notified him that I had to make it to work soon and we were in a rush for the check, he did not seem to care. I had to go into the restaurant to get my credit card back because it was taking so long. The service was lacking, and I understand the storm was completely unexpected, but the situation could have certainly been handled better. Great food which rotates with the seasons. Staff is always nice even when my kid breaks a glass during dinner. They are always busy with a line out the door, so get your name in there an hour before you actually want to sit down. We took our visiting parents and child there. Anyone who visits gets take there.
