If you live in Downey or surrounding cities, and you are looking for that one breakfast spot that will destroy the flavor and quantity of any other place around, then this is your spot. Firstly and most importantly, THE BACON is about 1/4 inch-thick!!! My mouth is watering as I write this!! I can never decide on whether to get the Santa Fe Omelette or the French Toast meal. They are both my favorite and both so delicious. It gets busy on the weekends, so be prepared for a wait, but I assure you that it will be well worth the wait. I only come here several times a year because the bill is usually about 35 bucks for 2, but you are certainly getting your money's worth right here. The last thing I will compliment is the "orange julias" drink. It is a delicious orange juice blended drink, and I get it every single time I come. No complaints here. They charge you 3% of the total bill if you use your credit card. Outrageous & it discourages dining here. The neighborhood itself (bordering Downey & Pico Rivera) is a little concerning. When asked about the charge, the server replied that ALL restaurants do it. NOT! They are the only one that has this practice that I've come across. Even the other (great breakfast) Arthur's in La Habra which USED TO be part of this restaurants says, they do not have any business connections with them and they do not charge extra for credit cards. But in fairness, went to get gas down the street, next to the 5 fwy and they do not even accept credit cards. Must be due to the questionable neighborhood and/or high insurance rates. Either way, not a good business practice. We've taken this place & neighborhood off our list. read more

I have been coming to Arthur's for almost two decades now. This review is long overdue. Recently I found myself in a search for Corned Beef Hash. Arthur's in my opinion is the bar for this dish. They make the Corned Beef from scratch and dice it up just enough to get a good balance between texture and flavor. Matched up with the O Brien potatoes I find this dish absolutely delectible. We have been going to Arthur's for a long time now....that has since changed. We went to Arthur's this past Labor Day and the service was awful I ordered a Breakfast Burrito and I wanted it with ham and cheese and they charged us $1.10 for each additional item....plus the older Latin lsdy that wears glasses got my order wrong and brought me my food with rice and beans....all I wanted was a breakfast burrito and then when she brought out our food it was cold. And the reason it came out cold is that she was jib jabbing and joking around with her coworkers. ..very loud and she was not paying attention to the details of what we ordered. Then the other waitress came into work and just stood there joking around not helping the situation. I asked her if this order is correct and she said that is the way the breakfast burrito comes I was charged for breakfast burrito $8.95 but on the menu it says $4.95. Then we got our bill and she said that Arthur's charges 6% to use a debit or credit card. We were really pissed off that Arthur's does this now.....very disappointed in you Arthurs. Nowadays, like many other places, the food quality has dropped and it is just your normal everyday place, not worth going out of your way to come here. tried the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were good, but the gravy was not. How can you mess up gravy? This gravy had the taste of flour and water and maybe a little salt. Nothing else. I was VERY disappointed. If you still come here, don't say you were not warned. I really only would have rated this place with one star, but the waitress that tended to us was nice and attentive to bringing coffee and water. After not being there for over 30 years, decided to stop for breakfast. SHOCKED, DISAPPOINTED and grossed out. What happened to this restaurant? Food was awful. Best known to me for their ham and eggs, biscuits and potatoes- and OJ - ham was dry; potatoes were a pile of potatoes with absolutely no seasoning. Eggs looked like I can't even describe. Then the worse thing I've experienced in over 50 years - a roach was crawling on the wall!!!! Waitress got on booth and with a napkin, KILLED it. She didn't look surprised or grossed out-just matter of factly did what it looked like she'd done before. I wanted to throw up what I had eaten and walk out. Waited a while and then left. After handing the waitress my ATM card, go to sign the receipt and I was charged a $1.00 fee. No sign, nothing said about a fee. Grabbed my receipt and walked out. I've lived in Downey most of my life and been to Arthur's once in the mid 90's. When I went back this morning what a disappointment. $5.50 for instant oatmeal and cold toast. $6.75 For a poached egg and cold potatoes and cold toast. I'm beginning to think there are no good breakfast spots in Downey with the exception of Pepe's on Telegraph (mmm, breakfast burritos) and El Taco on Firestone. The waitress was nice and filled our coffees at the right time. If your in that area and want breakfast, keep walking across the parking lot into the Starbucks. You'll pay the same, but at least Starbuck's food has more flavor. read more

I'm a regular at Arthur's. Absolutely love the breakfasts. This morning, something disappointing occurred. My usual plain cheese omelet, coffee, side of crispy bacon. The bacon was ready and sitting for 8-10 minutes before my order, so, I asked for a fresh order, but Manuel ("Man-Well") thought I wouldn't notice the same bacon. My first clue was that it was cold. Second was the piece I broke off before I asked for a new order, was still on the plate. My disappointment is for Arthur's Restaurant: it's such a great place with such good food, and a following of loyal customers, why would Manuel do such a thing? read more

The wait staff is very nice. The breakfast is pretty good. My boyfriend loves the breakfast burritos. The only downfall is the parking. The street behind the restaurant is where I usually park. It is also nice they have a drive thru. I have not tried their lunch items but I am sure they are pretty good as well. read more
