A real gem in SA. The brown sugar boba is the showstopper drink here. Incredible flavor and the best boba I've ever had. The bacon fried rice is hot, fresh, delicious and they give you a HUGE portion. Ate it for 4 meals. The chicken teriyaki is good, not the best I've ever had, but a solid 7 out of 10 and a decent sized portion. I wanted to love this place, it is clean and modern looking. It is conveniently located and has good hours for late-night boba. I thought they would become more inclusive after their soft opening ended, but they remain adamant in their restrictions. I went a total of five times, so I feel I have a good sense of the atmosphere. I did like that they knew me, they would say "welcome back." But as someone with dietary restrictions the lack of customization is simply frustrating. I love boba and egg custard but I can't add it to any of the drinks at Artea. They can only add it to the milk teas (which some of the milk teas are dairy free but others aren't and cannot be customized). All the dairy free milk teas have caffeine. I cannot have caffeine, so when I ask to add it to any other drink they say the owner doesn't allow customization because the drink recipes are perfect. I have to say they may be very nice recipes, but I will never have the chance to try them because of these limitations. Interestingly on the menu it says only the signature teas are not customizable but when you ask to add a topping to anything other than the milk teas, like fruit teas, you will be denied despite the menu saying it is possible. I don't understand the point of having toppings if they can't be added to anything. They could easily say, "we warned you, if it tastes bad that's on you." But instead it is a hard "no." I even told them about my dilemma that I can't have dairy or caffeine and none of their options allow me to order a drink with boba/toppings and they realized their menu was not inclusive but nothing was done about it. The drinks are okay but the selection makes it not worth it for me. I have taken my business to Tealicious Cafe because all of their drinks are dairy free, you can add boba or egg custard to any of them, and the drinks can be made with as little or as much sugar as you like. I can have a taro milkshake with egg pudding and boba at 25% sugar even with all my dietary restrictions. At artea I can have a plain butterfly tea, but I don't go to a boba place for a lemonade tea. I want boba, seems simple. One time I had to order the toppings on the side so I could participate in the boba experience. It only was allowed because the person I was with had ordered a milk tea and said she wanted extra after her cup was sealed. They allowed it, but I don't like feeling shady just to get my hands on some boba. Many places will freely give me boba in whatever horrid drink monstrosity I create. Would love to see a dairy free caffeine free boba / egg custard option. Will return with an addition that I can drink. read more

I ordered from grubhub via Yelp. And when I arrived at store, they said no longer work with grubhub at all! They can't cancel order on their side, so I need to call grubhub customer service and wait for 20 mins to do so. I like this place. The bobas are great. I ordered the taro milkshake this time and I really didnt like it. It didnt taste like anything and the taro pieces are so grainy and tiny that when I drank the milkshake it just stuck in my throat and made me cough like crazy. So far, the best spot I've found in SA for legit Asian food and Taiwanese boba. Anything with pork belly has been really good. The pickled sides and soft boiled egg adds a nice touch. However, I took off 2 stars for the customer service. This was my first time here and upon entering, we got glared at by the workers. Made us a bit uncomfortable, but we eventually found menus after looking around for a bit. Still no interaction with the workers and we just felt the vibe that they did not want to work or take our order. I love Artea! Especially their walls in the back-- the walls have a neon sign and a cute little geometric bear. If they changed out that area for sofa seats as a lounging area, where there's more opportunity for Instagram photos, I am sure it would be extremely popular! That being said, I had their popcorn chicken, sweet potato fries with honey mustard, and a few of their Boba tea's. I love their popcorn chicken. It's the Taiwanese kind... I haven't found a Boba place in town that has this yet! Kudos to them! The original boba was good and I liked the oolong. There was the sugar drink which really tasted like a thick brown sugar, which if that something you're into, is pretty good. The red bean was all right but the presentation was amazing with their tri color separation. 10/10, I would recommend this for a date, a hang out, or even a study day. Literally standing at the counter for like 10 mins before the girl with the glasses even acknowledged me! When I got my pork sandwich it had barely any meat on it just mostly fat and my specialty drink was watered down even when I asked for less ice they said they couldn't give me less ice. I found this place through DoorDash and when I order the food through the App the food was very good delivered when you order in person and they see you're of color they treat your food like shit. I've been a regular at Artea since they've opened, and they're definitely the best Taiwanese snack and boba place I've been to in San Antonio. They don't have a lot of the conventional milk tea/boba flavors and options that many other places have, but don't let that dissuade you! As far as drinks go, I really love their hibiscus tea and their matcha latte. Their food is also really great too, I'm a huge fan of the pork belly sliders, the sweet potato fries, and their applewood bacon fried rice. Their popcorn chicken is honestly hit or miss for me and can be a little chalky sometimes, but is still a solid choice, especially with some sriracha. I will say things are pretty pricey here, but the quality is impressive and they are very consistent. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is great for social settings. I will say, it can be pretty distracting to study here because of all the foot traffic and the pagers they use to notify customers of their orders constantly going off, but it's perfect for hanging out with friends. read more

After the store reached out to me about their business, I decided to give the place another shot. My roommate and I ordered their popcorn chicken and Mala noodles, and we were very disappointed. The popcorn chicken was crispy and not too salty, but the Mala noodles were not edible at all. It was straight up burnt, and after one or two bites, we could not finish it. After the series of multiple orders in which the drinks came out not right and the food came out inedible, I don't think I will ever be coming back to this location. Artea makes quality food/drinks and is usually properly staffed. It's a nice place and a good vibe. Only thing I dislike is how long you have to wait to order or pick up food. Due to the uniqueness of the menu and options customers have questions when they order. They only have one Kiosk open so the line is usually 3-4 people long. It takes over 10 minutes of standing in line before you order. Again its not because the cashier is slow it's mainly customers with lots of questions. If they opened a second kiosk atleast just for to-go order I think it would be a nice addition. read more

Does not make sense to have a giant glass screen between the customer and employee at register , if the employee is going to still wear a mask and mumble. I wanted to love the items on the menu (I'm a huge pork belly fan) but the lack of seasoning was supremely disappointing.
