This place came highly recommended. We went to check it out on a Sunday and the expectations were pretty high. You place your order first and then you find a seat if one is available to dine in. Dining is limited and the establishment consist of local black artwork covering the walls there is an upstairs area, but that seating is also limited. The owner was very proud of his establishment and gave us the history of how they came about and who cooks what in the restaurant. The service was great the food unfortunately did not match. I'm all for supporting black owned businesses, but I have to give honest feedback. Starting with the sides, the spaghetti, the cabbage, and the greens all had excessive amounts of sugar in them, which was such a turn off, everything taste the same it was so sweet it created a film in my mouth of sugar. The sweet tea lemonade mix was again full of sugar. You couldn't taste the lemonade or the tea. It was just sweetness. I do understand certain people like their food like this. I however, am not one of those individuals. The turkey ribs, a.k.a. clavicle bone taste like smoked bologna and the A1 barbecue sauce did not enhance the flavor whatsoever I nor my mother could finish our food the cornbread taste like mush everything overpowered everything there was no distinct taste of broccoli or cheese just mushy wet undercooked cornbread that again was sweet. The only star of the show for this experience was the fried fish. It was cooked to perfection seasoned well surprisingly without sugar. We could not finish our food after a couple of bites so we took it to go and handed it to a homeless person on the way home. I love the concept of this establishment. I love how they incorporate other black businesses and I can tell he is proud of his work. I would love to support in other ways, just not through the food unfortunately, I will not be returning but I pray this establishment continues to improve, evolve, and thrive, it's a million herbs and spices to utilize, sugar doesn't have to be one of them and for $70 bucks I do expect to enjoy the food to some extent. read more

Still one of my favorite places to eat. It's now my Sunday go to after service. Some of the best chicken and dressing in the city! That with the greens will make you feel like you're in your grandma's kitchen. And I don't even like okra but the way they fry it to perfection has me grabbing pieces off other people's plates on a regular. I guess I'll order my own next time...this week. read more

I had been seeing this place and people talk about their smoked turkey ribs. So I finally got around to the area to try them out. The owner was super friendly and helpful. He even gave me a tour of their space, showed me how all the meat is smoked separately to avoid cross contamination, and told me about upcoming events. They have an eat-in area but also do to-go orders. I ordered a Turkey rib sandwich, a catfish po-boy (Rich Girl), and a piece of pound cake. I heard another customer asked about the broccoli cheese cornbread after I had already placed my order. I then decided I wanted to try it to (since my family has made this for years and I've never heard anyone else making it). The customer ended up just adding me a piece to their order and paying for it. So nice of them! That Turkey rib sandwich was awesome. I almost went right back to get another one. The cornbread was also really good and moist (mine has more cheese when I make it ). The catfish was also really good. Everything was excellent and I can't wait to return again. I need more of those Turkey ribs! Nice place and welcoming staff/owners. It's a family run business. My pictures aren't great but it's the best I could do at the moment. read more

Came here for a quick lunch. I love how intimate and art focused the space is. We came as soon as they opened but the door was closed so we class to confirm they would be opening. Always try calling if they don't see to be open during the hours posted. I got the turkey ribs, fried orka and cabbage. I've never heard of or had turkey ribs but I'll be back for more! They were so good and seasoned well (not dry at all). I've also heard good things about the smoked wings and turkey rib sandwich. Doesn't seem like you can go wrong with any of their smoked meat options. read more

Idk what's better - the flavor of the food or how much this place gives back to their community!!! I had their turkey rib sandwich, fries and lemonade for only $9.01 while I enjoyed the vibrant art on the walls and historic storytime from the owner during downtime. This place gives back by feeding the homeless daily and has lot of connections in the city as far as networking resources go! Since today is Juneteenth, I wanted to support a black owned business. It was suggested that I try Art House Cafe. I went around 3pm and there wasn't a crowd so I was able to order quickly. I got the smoked wings with smoked cabbage, fried okra, and the broccoli cornbread. My food came out quickly. It was about a 30 minute drive home but the food was still at a great temperature. I didn't need to warm it up. The bbq sauce that comes with the wings was really good. Overall, everything was cooked and seasoned really well. While there, I noticed there was artwork for sale. I definitely want to visit again. read more

Art House Cafe is a complete gem. The owner cares so much for his business, customers and local community. The cafe is full of local art, soft jazz, and positive vibes all around. I ordered the baked chicken, yams, and stewed cabbage to go and my goodness - my mouth hasn't stopped watering. The chicken is perfectly cooked, fall off the bone tender, with the perfect amount of heat. The cabbage is one of the best foods I've eaten in my life. It's smoky, packed full of flavor, and will knock ANY cabbage you've had out of the park. The yams are sweet and soft without being mushy. The owner showed me around his patio, the art, and introduced me to the staff. I felt like a VIP guest. The cafe also feeds the local hungry everyday, while providing a safe haven for local artists to showcase their singing, rapping, or poetry abilities. While I originally found the Art House Cafe on a trek to get coffee, this was a trip I am so glad to make. I can't explain how at home the employees made me feel. Their family run business is all about the community and helping others. They even walked me to my car! They have free Wifi and a quiet atmosphere that would make it a prime study spot.
