When my A/C went out a couple weeks ago...in the midst of the July heat wave I could not have been happier with the speed and quality of service. My tech Eric arrived, I explained what had happened and he promptly identified what the problem was and repaired it at a fair and reasonable price....and within a couple hours my house had cooled and I was able to sleep comfortably...something that had not happened the night before. I signed up for the inspections. I pay $18 a month which is supposed to include a free camera inspection of my pipes. When the plumber, Lenny, came out he told me it would cost me $95 for a camera inspection. They downright lied to me, and I plan to get out of the monthly payments as soon as I can. read more

Our AC went out this month and ARS was one of three companies we had out to the house to diagnose the issue. These guys were the most professional and had a common sense approach to the issue. The AC unit needed to be replaced. ARS did not push a specific brand and was honest with the pros AND cons to the brands out there. Everyone else had a specific brand they preferred. ARS went over financing options and were willing to negotiate slightly. We decided on a Carrier unit. Installation was able to be performed in two days. Installation went smooth. They were not the cheapest, but were also not the highest. I think we got a good unit at a fair price. My wife and I felt the most comfortable going with these guys and their recommendations. We were eligible for some manufacturer rebates through Carrier as well as through Comed. They were able to take the rebates off of our total bill, instead of having to apply and wait for them through the mail. We signed an authorization for the rebates to go to them. We though that was nice to get the savings immediately since this was a large and unexpected cost for us. We were given a 1 year free maintenance plan with the new unit as well. Overall we were very pleased. We plan to use them for service going forward. read more

Watch these guys. They have a program with Home Depot where they offer a discount price of $39.00 to come to your house and inspect your system. Well, I thought the price was right and the connection with Home Depot gave them credibility. Boy, was I wrong. The guy came to my house and saw my furnace/ac was 17 years old. They inspected my furnace and said I needed a new capacitor (battery). They quoted an outlandish price, about $250.00. I balked and said that was way too much. They lowered it to $180.00. The battery itself retails for about $25.00 at Amazon.com. Well, they needed to pay for the service call; I guess $39 was not enough. He further checked the system and said I needed a new inducer for the furnace; it was operating too hot according to him and would likely fail soon. This was last winter. Well, we went through the winter and the furnace operated real well; no problem. I have got to fault Home Depot for getting in bed with these overpriced and fear-inducing jerks. I have lost a lot of respect for Home Depot, and not only for this episode. Although, usually pretty good, I have seen some problems, particularly with contractors who install their products like carpeting. STAY AWAY from ARS. And watch Home Depot. read more

Brandon did not push for us to get a new humidifier but I could tell from his diplomatic discussion that we should have a new one. Old one was probably 20 years old and we didn't realize till the 2016 cold snap, what a difference more humidity made for our nighttime breathing. ARS in general is always clean and tidy, a plus in my book. We got new humidifier today on our furnace, we're putting away the free standing humidifiers, and now looking forward to improved humidity. Brandon is an experienced installer and knows his trade backwards and forwards. I enjoy his frankness about my furnace and air quality. "Awesome" customer service experience. I scheduled AC tune up with these guys over a month ago for today (6/29) between 10 am and noon. At 1 pm, I'm getting a call from a person saying due to large number of calls, they cannot make it to me today!! - This is after wasting almost half of my Saturday sitting home and waiting for them to come. What a disgusting customer service?! How hard it was to pick up a phone in the morning and provide heads up? We're all human, I understand stuff happen but please be MINDFUL of your (now ex-) customer time. read more

I was looking to have central air installed in my 1964 ranch house, along with some other HVAC-related projects. The Geneva Home Depot referred me to ARS. I was impressed with the salesman, who spent nearly two hours in my home and seemed quite experienced and knowledgeable. He told me that he needed to get numbers from his boss and he would give me a proposal for the work we discussed. He also told me that once I accepted the proposal, they could have a crew at my house within a few days to perform the work. Eight days since the salesman's visit and four phone calls later, I still have no proposal. So what's up with that? read more

Great experience with this company! Eric, from ARS came out to the house to take a look at our AC unit that had stopped working a couple of days before. We had another company out the night the unit stopped working, The other company quoted us a price that was more than double the ARS price! Not onlt that, Eric from ARS got our unit running again (short-term fix) so that we wouldn't be miserable while we had to wait a few days for parts to come in. Well lets start with the fact that I'm a new home owner and already have had at least a 1000 different people/businesses try and sell me on work and or products that I simply don't need and are not necessary for the situation at hand. I have American Home Shield as a warranty and actually requested ARS(because they truly are an amazing group of people) as my primary company for dealing with my homes many issues. We recently had a small leak from a water pipe in our basement, ARS sent over plumbing specialist Sam D. and we couldn't have been happier. I explained to him that I am a born and raised north sider and am not familiar with well systems or their inner workings. While attending to the problem at hand he took the time to explain the differences in the systems and what to expect out my houses pipes within the next few years. Bottom line Sam is someone I would definitely recommend for any of your plumbing needs.............As a matter of fact we just had a water pipe issue on the opposite end of the house and we requested him again from ARS to deal with the situation and explain any options we may have. Thanks Sam for everything, you're just what our old house needed. I would like to add that this is not the first time I've used ARS. My first experience was actually with Dan H. a heating and air genius. This man sat and explained how a previous company that I considered using was flat out out lying to my wife and I. Danny saved me almost $3,000 worth of work that was not needed. Besides the fact that he fixed our homes A/C & Heating issues he also was very understanding and patient while dealing with me and my family during the sudden death of my Father. Dan came to our house before 9:00 am on Saturday as promised. The first thing he did was put on his booties. We are not "clean freaks" as we have three dogs, but we really appreciated that. We didn't know what to expect as it had been a couple of years since we had our furnace cleaned, but Dan was able to clean it in a fairly short amount of time and replaced our filter as well. He recommended a few minor actions to take, one of which I can handle myself, but we were never given the impression that these things needed to be taken care of right this minute (like others may have). We were also lured in by the furnace tune up at a low price at Home Depot. The tech showed up late, but they did call often to let me know where he was and luckily I was home anyway. Tech said furnace was cracked and a CO2 hazard - asked if he could send someone from his company to give a quote for furnace replacement. I told him I'd have my home warranty company check it out first and that I had his info if we needed to get some quotes. Home warranty company sent a different contractor who checked things out and said they were fine. Tested CO2 levels which were zero. So we ended up having to pay our home warranty deductible on top of our "bargain" furnace tune up price to find out everything was okay. We are relieved more work wasn't needed, but we did stress out in the meantime and aren't pleased with having to spend the extra money. read more

I understand everyone is in business to make a profit but I they tried to take me to the cleaners today! Recently purchased a new A/C system from Home Depot and they were the local install vendor. After installing the new system we noticed an issue that sounded like a short cycle was occuring while the air was on. Called ARS direct and they promptly sent a tech out the next morning. Tech arrived with a an attitude and wasn't very personable at all. No biggie, I just need to figure out what is going on since we didn't have this issue until recently (after A/C was installed). Tech first believes we are having an issue due to a resistor that wasn't installed on the thermostat (Nest)when the new a/c was installed so he adds one (how this can be missed is beyond me when it suppose to be standard practice to check when the new a/c system is installed - per the techs comment). Tech and I continue to observe the issue, next he tells me after using a voltometer that the logic board is bad and that it will cost rougy $800 with labor to replace. Now in this day and age a quick Google/Amazon search will net you the average cost of parts like said "OEM logic board"; part currently goes for $60 to $80. So ARS, your telling me that your going to charge me roughly $720 for your tech to take 3 screws off of my furnace and then swap out maybe 10 cables to a new logic board (less than an hour of labor? The board is very accessable and only requires needle nose pliers to remove! Trust me when I say this really dings your companies integrity with me. Then the tech goes on to tell me that they also recommend that the blower motor be replaced for an additional 900 dollars on top of the 800 for the logic board. So now my 2 year old furnace needs $1700 dollars in repairs to which the tech then chimes in "you guys really should replace it since it's probably not under warranty". I'm sure if I was to look up the cost of a blower motor it would cost me 1/4 the cost; even with labor the cost is nearly double! Again the blower motor is held in by 2 bolts and slides right out so you'd think it would be less than $900. Prior to him leaving I'm then charged for the visit $59 but honestly at this point I just want the guy to leave because his attitude has only gotten progressively worse since I'm not jumping on the "on spot" quote to fix the issue. Never again ARS...enjoy the last $59 you make off of me. Now I'm left with an A/C system that I can't trust because clearly shortcuts were taken and a furnace diagnosis that even if creditable simply can't be trusted. Take my advice, you get repeat customers by providing good customer service, fair pricing and completing work correctly the first time. read more

We had ARS company do our HVAC tuning on 9/1 which was perfectly done. I had some questions about the pricing and wanted to know why it would cost this much ... a representative over phone asked his manager to call next day. I had concerns about the quotes at it looked exorbitantly high and some of the repairs should not be tried but replacement should be done as if to repair a $50 stuff if i pay $400 i am surely an insane person. Now this is an issue about how they behave it was Brian calling. He said you had question about pricing. i said i am on office call can i give you a call back. he replies angrily i am on office call too what is your question on pricing and started pulling all pricing .... excuse me is this how you call your customers. NOT DOING ANY MORE BUSINESS WITH THE PERSON (its not company's fault) and SINCE I GOT THEM FROM HOME DEPOT I AM GOING TO COMPLAIN THEM AS WELL. read more

We called the Home Depot service line and we were directed to ARS. Our water heater broke down on Christmas morning and had a bad leak. We waited until the following day to get someone out here due to the holiday. ARS was able to schedule someone to come out on Saturday 12/26 and they told us they would be here between 12 and 4 PM. At 4:30 pm I called the company to ask if someone was still coming as no one had showed up. The technician finally arrived at 5:00 PM. He seemed surprised when I lead him to the water heater and said "I was told it was your boiler, not your water heater. I'm an HVAC guy I don't do water heaters." I was very confused and irritated at this point since I lost an entire day. We specifically said it was our water heater that was not working when we called for the service appointment because they asked me specific details about the gallon capacity and the brand of water heater we had in place, so I know I called for the correct type of service. The HVAC guy tried calling his home office to have someone else come. He tried calling but apparently they were already closed and he could not reach the plumbing department. He offered to have someone come the following day. I thanked him for his time and called someone else. I was very disappointed with the lack of communication between the service scheduling and technicians. read more

Our water heater stopped working early on a Monday morning. I called ARS at 6:20am and an actual company representative answered the phone. She was very professional and detail oriented. Even though they were totally booked for the day, she said she would try to have someone get to us if possible. Just in case, we scheduled the work to be done the following morning (Tuesday). We received a call around 4:00pm that day informing us they could have someone to our home between 6:00 - 8:00pm. At 6:40pm, Terry arrived and by 8:45pm the new hot water heater was installed and working. Terry did an excellent job, he cleaned up completely, informed us about the new unit, asked us if we had any additional questions and informed us of our warranty and service contract options. We were extremely impressed and would highly recommend ARS and plan to call them back for any for future needs. read more

This company is out for your wallet. 10x higher than honest local services. Never trust a company who wants to quote you for a whole new system instead of offering a reasonable price for simple maintenance work. They want $1,000 to clean a blower motor. First and foremost they would rather give you the option for a salesman to quote you a new system when yours in still working. Shame on Home Depot too for working with this company offering to rip off consumers. read more

I am replacing my A/c unit as well as my furnace so I decided to get 4 estimates before committing to any one company. ARS was the first to come out. They sent a very young Sales Rep who was polite at first. He would not give me a written quote, he did not even show me any paperwork on furnaces or air conditioner units. Instead, he decided to spend the first hour talking to me about how reliable and dependable ARS is. I was very annoyed and wanted to get to the point. I asked him if we could start getting specific about prices and he says "It's probably be $7500." i can not explain how unbelievable this is. He told me that because i am getting multiple estimates, he would not give me a written estimate until I had all the other estmates I wanted and then he would come back. We did not discuss brands, efficency I wanted, or anything specific. The only technical thing he did was measure my furance size. I wanted him to leave, but he continued to try and sell me. ANOTHER hour later he finally leaves and I never got a real quote. Complete waste of time. By the way, the other three companies estimates (in writting) ranged from $3400-3850. ARS is way over priced and more concerned about sales than customer satisfaction. I saved them in my phone as do not answer. read more

I made a service appointment online for Tuesday. On Saturday, I decided to reschedule the appointment, was told that someone will be over on the same day, between 12-4pm. Well, at 4.15pm, I called because nobody has showed up yet. I was told that whoever taking care of my rescheduling did not update the system correctly and that they will reach out to their technician and have them come over as soon as possible. 6pm I called again and was told the same thing. 10pm I called back, and was told that they are sorry, but they will have to reschedule me for the next day, which is Sunday. However, Sundays are on-call basis and I will have to pay after-hour fee. What the heck? Why would you try to make me pay extra when you messed up my appointment. Appointment cancelled, never going to ARS again for any service. read more

My 30 years old furnace stopped working in 2005. So I called ARS for their service. The Technician from ARS looked at my old furnace and told me he can't fix the problem because they can't order the part for the old furnace and suggested that I need to replace it with a new one. He recommended a TRANE and stated that it was the best brand available to date. So I decided to go with it. That was a big mistake, since I had the new furnace which replace by ARS, My new furnace been having problem almost every year. After the warranty is out, it cost $95 just for their technician to stop by my house to take a look at the problem. (About the warranty, since I lost my receipts so sometime when I called them it is 10 years warranty, now it is 5 years warranty or they don't have any record showing their company sold or install the furnace for me). I just called ARS again today, one of their technicians stop by and a told me there are a couple of parts need to be replace witch will cost me $573 including labor. I am not an expert in heating and air conditioning, but I lived in my house for 10 years before I had any problem with the 30 years old furnace. Now with this piece of junk from ARS, it broke down almost for sure every other year if not every year. after puting up with ARS for all this years, I decide to just pay him the $95 diagnostic fee and look for some other company to fix my furnace problem once and for all. When I look them up on yelp.com, I am surprise that they actually have good rating. I thought that I might be the unlucky one, but my questions are. Why can they fixing the same problem I called them for year after year? Why do they insisted to sell me a plan $167 a year for their technician to stop by for twice a year routine maintenance. read more

I had two different problems. The first was a shower cartridge replacement. I had to call back twice to finally talk to a parts manager to find the cost and give him the ok to order. This took 4 days to get a return call. 2nd problem was main line sewer clog. They came out same day and picked up shower part to do both same day. Scott W was the specialist who came out today. Excellent work all the way around. Five stars for Scott W. ***** 2 Stars for price. I thought price for shower and sewer where too high. Total over $800.00. I have a leak caused by my shower (haven't been able to identify the real cause) and after the technician disassembles the shower fixture he determines the problem is not caused by a plumbing issue, that it is most likely caused by bad caulking and grout. After replacing caulk and grout in the shower the leaking problem is not solved and when I call ARS they say there is nothing they can do, but they can come again........ I do believe the technician did not do a thorough evaluation to start with. read more

I paid $49 through Angie's List for a water heater inspection and cleaning combined with a complete home plumbing inspection. I scheduled the appointment (4-hour range) the previous day and was called 30 minutes ahead of time so I would know the specific time. Manny, a licensed plumber, arrived on time and did a very thorough inspection of the water heater and plumbing system. He was professional and I never felt that he was rushing or just going through the motions. During the course of the inspection, a few problems were found and pointed out. However, the problems were not exaggerated and I never felt pressured to buy additional services, although they were priced and offered. Per the terms of the agreement, I requested a camera inspection of my main drain tile system. Manny called and scheduled the service. Joe showed up as scheduled that afternoon and also did a thorough job. He provided insight re: what the camera showed, but no problems were found (none were expected). This was a great deal and was definitely worth more than $49. I don't really think about the plumbing system at my home unless there is a problem. This informed me of some potential issues that I will be able to address before they become real problems. read more

Just had a new Central Air Conditioner installed by this company. After getting several quotes and checking all companies ARS was willing to negotiate the price and their high rating helped me to pick them, This was by far the best experience I have ever had with a contractor; Not only did they offer 2 years of interest free payments the quality and professional service was worth every penny. The installers laid tarps throughout the house to ensure my carpet was not damaged. They arrived early and finished the job in about 4 hours, showed me how to work my new thermostat and were friendly and very professional cleaned up so well I couldnt even tell they were there. ARS will be my go to company for all my heating cooling and plumbing needs from now on. Great job guys. read more

It's very apparent when you read many of the positive reviews on Yelp and other sites they sound suspect to me - many are structured and sound the same. I ended up with ARS because someone in Home Depot approached me for a $99 furnace inspection for two furnaces. I thought what a deal. I was wrong. Although the service rep was very courteous and friendly, shortly after he left I started to feel scammed and in need of a furnace inspection after my furnace inspection. I then pulled up several checklists from other companies, including theirs, and I don't believe he did half of what is on those lists. He never presented me with a checklist of items he would inspect before OR after the inspection. That was troublesome to me. He worked with a little light on his smart phone and turned down a real flashlight that I offered him. He didn't inspect the inside of the burners nor the heat exchangers on either furnace which is essential for ANY legitimate inspection. I tried to get him to do it but he kept giving me excuses that because of a water drip on the outside bottom it was a sign of it going bad anyway. BUT he assured me it wasn't leaking carbon monoxide. I asked how does he know? Because he didn't smell any leaks. As a professional inspector that doesn't cut it for me. I needed a VISUAL inspection from the inside AND a carbon monoxide test which he also declined to perform. He didn't want to do the work and covered his tracks by saying "it's not leaking today but it could tomorrow". The cleaning consisted of little more than vacuuming a little inside shelf that, unfortunately, had nothing to do with the performance of the unit(s). What DOES impact performance, like dirty blower blades which he said I had, they charge extra for (other companies don't) and inside the heat exchanger and/or burners which again wasn't even opened up. The rest of the cleaning, which included some mold spots and dirt on top and inside of the unit - both of which he mentioned, he nonchalantly left for me. He put two holes in my ducts to test for temperature and never bothered to seal them back up. There was definitely an up-sell for a new furnace and other equipment, mentioning free quotes multiple times in which I declined multiple times. At the same time he touted how superior their pricy equipment was and bad mouthed one of my furnaces which, by the way, I have never had a problem with my "junk" furnace after 10 years of service and no inspections. Can they say the same for their equipment? At the end of the day it felt like his objective was to talk me into buying one of their new units rather than perform a good sound inspection on both of mine. The old saying holds true - if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. read more
