ARS OF Illinois is a very reliable service for all your Heating/Cooling and plumbing issues. We thought our old hot water tank might be close to its end. ARS set a suitable appointment time for us and sent their Service Tech Terrence Spranger to assess our situation. Terrence was on time, checked everything out thoroughly and explained all our options. He gave very detailed information about a new tank, went over product brand, install, warranties, service on the new 40 gallon tank, pricing, delivery/install dates and answered all our questions. Honestly, Terrence did an amazing job from his first visit to the end visit of installing our new tank. He was straight forward about everything with NO pressure to buy. He left the area immaculately clean and we have peace of mind that we are all set now with the new tank for many years to come! Terrence Spranger is a consummate licensed professional with over 10+ years at ARS. It was solely because of HIM that we agreed right away to move forward without calling any other company for pricing! He gave us a very fair deal and I was even able to use a coupon to get some money off! We can't say enough good things about Terrence. We are very satisfied with the whole process that Terrence took us thru. Their whole management infrastructure sucks. They installed a heater couldn't get it to work. It has been a month and a half, and it still does not work. Never return any calls. Never speak to any management only the phone operators that you speak to. We still have no heat installed crappy left a hole in our wall and we haven't heard anything . Bad company. read more

I scheduled an AC Tune-up for Thursday, 4/16 between 8am to 12pm. Shortly after that, I received a message stating that due to high volume of calls, my appointment had to be rescheduled. It was rescheduled for Friday, 4/17 between 10am to 2pm. On Friday, 4/17 I received three text messages from ARS. The first two stated that I was on their schedule and the tech would be here between 10am to 2pm. The third text stated that I was on their schedule and thanked me for my patience (that should have been a sign to me that the tech was not going to be at my house by 2pm). As of 2:45pm, I have yet to hear from or see the technician. I have called ARS's office twice and talked with two different customer service reps. They attempted to call their dispatch and was unable to talk with them. The last AC tune-up was performed by ARS about two years ago. read more

I do not normally post reviews but thought I should in this case to warn people know about this company. HVAC companies have a reputation for not being honest with people, this company is a poster child for that. They offer a discounted rate for senior citizens to inspect the furnace. After the inspection ARS finds other things that need to be repaired right NOW. In our case they supposedly found a crack in the heat exchanger, made a senior citizen nervous because of supposed carbon monoxide leakage in the house, made her sign a form acknowledging it. Their cost to fix it 4 times what another company offered to do the same job. And we found out there was no breach or crack in the heat exchanger that was dangerous or emitting carbon monoxide. Good morning. Two people came to look at my fireplace because I thought it emitting carbon monixide. It took them about thirty minutes to look over the fireplace & then told me it was old & needed replacing due to a small amount of leakage but said on low setting, the leakage waa not dangerous. It took one of the guys about 10 minutes to write up a receipt for me. As soon as they arrived, I had to pay $75.00 for them coming out. They asked for cash but we agreed on Zelle. Once they were done looking over the fireplace, I waa told my charge was $250! I asked, "For what?!" I was told it was for accessing the problem. The time window I was given was 8am to 12 noon...the technician arrived at 215!!!! no apology no nothing...the service department called me at 8am, and told me I was the 2nd customer and the technician would be at my house between 10 and 1030...great!!! ..however at 12 noon I called and the service department told me that they couldnt reach him when hes on a job......talked to them 2 more times and he finally arrived at 215!!!...When he completed the tune-up I asked if I could write a check and he said how funny I've gotten 5 checks today...hmmm guess I wasnt 2nd on the list. Avoid this company at all costs. I found them at Home Depot. Yesterday I sat around for five hours waiting for somebody to show up. Nobody showed up. They rescheduled me for today. Today I sat around for four hours, and now they tell me they want to reschedule for February 9. Effectively, the only thing they've done for two days is waste my time. Horrible experience. This company originally installed the furnace in our house many years back. They came out Day 1 to fix our furnace which had broken in the middle of the night. The technician said the part isn't available anywhere in the entire state until Day 2 or Day 3. He said he would call Day 2, never did, I had to call the company direct who said someone would reach out to me. Next day (Day 3), they call me saying the part won't be available until 6 more days!!! I spoke with manager who assured me there was nothing they could do and they have to get these parts special ordered from the manufacturer and they are not available anywhere in the state. I asked for refund of initial fee of $103 and she refused, even through their on hold message says if you are not 100% satisfied we will refund your costs. I said I will call another company. THE VERY NEXT COMPANY I CALLED HAD THE EXACT PART IN HAND IN STOCK AND REPLACED SAME DAY! All in all WTF, total waste of time and money. I will never use this company again. Same experience as most people on here, appear to be legit but only during sale, had an issue with $15.000 they installed 2 years prior, some part of the furnace was leaking freon, they said while part is covered figuring out where it's leaking from and adding 1lbs of coolant is $1100, two year old furnace they sold us. I should have read the reviews before engaging with this Company. They installed my new furnace and AC last winter. They said it would be critical that they come out for a summer start up before using the new AC unit this summer and that they would be reaching out to schedule. They never reached out (nor did I expect them to) and so I scheduled them from 8am-12pm on 5/5/25. They called at 12:45 pm and said they "needed to cancel for other high priority customers due to the temperature drop. 1) It's not cancelling when you call after the appointment window, it's called not showing up for your appointment 2) By temperature drop, it was 60 degrees yesterday and 55 degrees today She said they could reschedule me for 3 weeks out as they take appointments "in the order of priority". After pleading my case they graciously allowed me to schedule for 2 weeks out. Great to know we aren't a high priority customer, at least it gave my wife and I a good afternoon laugh! read more

They used to do a good job -- they installed new HVAC and hot water heater in my home in 2021. But lately their service scheduling has been terrible. Had a 4-hour Friday window in April and they never showed up -- no call, no text. And when I called to reschedule on Monday they claimed they had been trying to reach me -- not! No apologies either. Rescheduled for three weeks later -- no effort to make it right. Happened again today (June 9) for a water heater not working. Waiting six hours so far. They promised an update -- but nothing. I have called twice. Was promised a text or call -- nothing! Last call they said they will be here sometime...while I have no hot water from the still-warranteed unit they installed. They always say we will have someone out between 8 and 12. Last time they got here at two pm. We are the customers, without us customers there is no rescue rooters. So we have to be at home and wait for that phone call to tell us were next! I spent over 20k over ten years on two new Hvac systems! All us customers are to you are atm machines handing over money to you every time you come out! Wait for you is all we do, don't we matter? I don't think so! I did a pre-emptive furnace and AC replacement project on a 25 year old unit.  I had weak signals over the past couple of years that any time would be a good time to do this replacement and I didn't want to wait for an emergency.  I got several quotes and ARS (American Residential Services)/Home Depot came in at a good value, but they were also not the lowest quote.   Bill Schaafer and Bill Cavallone installed the new Carrier furnace and AC system for me.  I was pleased with their professionalism and services.  Keith Hickman was the knowledgeable salesman for the job and he also came through for us on getting a 15% discount for a next day opportunity installation.  They do about 80% of Home Depot's HVAC business and 100% of Lowe's, so they have a partnership and backing of some big businesses which I liked.  In other words, as opposed to say a small family business, I can count on them being around for decades.  I noticed after the fact, lol, that they have a lot of poor reviews!  I hope their poor performance days are over as I saw no signs of it myself though admittedly it's early days still.  Time will tell I guess as I expect to use this system for 20+ years going forward.  BTW, my brother used ARS/Home Depot for a new furnace and we will both get a $200 check for the referral business. read more

Last Sunday, June 29, our air conditioner stopped running. I called ARS and scheduled a service call for Monday, June 30. The technicians arrived and assessed the situation. They told me the bearings on the motor were shot. They also said the capacitor needed to be replaced and recommended we purchase a whole new air conditioner. The cost to replace the motor and the capacitor would be $2,200. We also paid $109 for the service call. Hearing this, my husband said no thank you and called ABT. On Tuesday, an HVAC technician from ABT came and replaced the capacitor. We did not need a new motor and the total cost was $360 which included the cost of the service call as well as the capacitor. Before you call ARS, make sure to call ABT first. They will save you time and money! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with ARS, scheduled through Home Depot, has been one of the most frustrating and disappointing service encounters I've ever had. I originally scheduled an HVAC service appointment, and the technician was supposed to come on a Friday between 4 and 8 PM. Not only did no one show up, but I waited at home until 9 PM -- no call, no update, no explanation. This wasn't the first time. It was the fifth time I had been kept waiting at home for hours without any service provided. Throughout this entire ordeal, I contacted Home Depot Customer Service multiple times to express my frustration and file complaints. After each complaint, someone from ARS would eventually reach out to me with a new offer -- not because they took initiative or accountability, but clearly because Home Depot contacted them. Their attempts to "make me happy" were superficial at best. After the last missed appointment, ARS reached out yet again to try and reschedule a sixth time. First, they offered to charge me only for one of my two AC units. Later, they came back with an offer to do both units completely free of charge. I refused. Out of principle, I cannot continue working with a company that has wasted over 25 hours of my time across five missed appointments and only acts after being pressured by Home Depot. This service has been unreliable, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. I first came to know about ARS when I was walking around Home Depot and they were offering deal in A/C tune up. At the time I scheduled A/C tune up with them as I have never tuned up my A/C. About a year later my compressor stopped working . My units are about 18 years old so I understand their time had came. Then I scheduled a free estimate from ARS for AC and furnace replacement. Sales person came out and gave me classic sales pitch. He did educate me on hvac systems and even mentioned heat pump technology in which I became very interested in. He was willing to work with me on the price but I just didn't feel comfortable making a quick decision without researching on heat pumps and ARS. So I asked him for some time which he was not willing to give. Conversation became bit uncomfortable and he ended up leaving by saying we are not doing business as I do not expect you to call me to pay a higher price. That rubbed the wrong way. I immediately researched their brands and the company and I'm glad I did. In my limited experience I most likely won't go with ARS because I did not hear good things about York brand hvac systems. If I could give 10 stars, it still wouldn't be enough. My house drains were backing water into house and the smell was unbelievable. Fearing the worst after having another company come out and tell me that my pipes had broken and on the verge of passing out from the cost that I was told. I decide to try ARS for a second opinion and THANK GOD I DID. As soon Zach from ARS arrived, I told him the problem, and he immediately told me what was going on, and explained everything that he would be doing. After 30 minutes or so of Zach cleaning out the lines the water inside the house went away and the drain outside opened up. I felt like I won the Lottery. I called ARS on November 10, 2025 to fix the inducer motor because I knew exactly what was wrong with the furnace after my own extensive diagnosis. A guy showed up and confirmed my diagnosis, but he told me the replacement would cost me $2390! He told me it wasn't worhwhile to replace the motor. I knew how much a motor of that model costs (a little bit over $100) and the time to replace the motor will be less than an hour. The guy insisted I replace the whole heating and AC units because they were over 12 years old and he insisted on scheduling their sales team for the same day. I smelled the dishonesty right away and paid him the $109 diagnosis fee to let him go. My honest advice is DO NOT USE ARS if you're not desperate. read more

Also told us that we did not have an appointment one day, then someone else said yes and switched it to later in the day. .still no parts. Never called back when they said they would. Had to keep calling them. When tech replaced parts, damaged the grill on top of ac unit. Didn't tell anyone. Spoke to Liz Cruz, very rude! My rating on your ARS furnace inspector and sales person James would give a low rating. It was very noticeable that my furnace tune up was only a camera check to find some crack in the heater exchange. I provide the inspector my vacuumed which I know he did not use as after he left I opened the filter area and could see the pre filter was dirty and I marked it with small tape to see if it was opened. I have 6 LED CO2 detectors all connected to wifi and an app that shows me history of any CO2 detection. I have never seen it move over 0 PPM. Plus if it is the heat exchanger crack Trane has 20 year warranty that through research cost $600-$800 for remove and replace not the $3100 that ARS quoted. Plus your sales person did not want to replace the heat exchanger only stated it would require a new furnace and AC unit at over $18,000 but he would give 20% if I sign up today. My plans are to have 5 star heating and air who installed my Trane XV90 furnaces to come for a recheck in January. They stated that what can look like a crack may not be a crack that breaches the exchanger area and any sign of Leck should show up on one of my 6 CO2 detectors installed above air vents and above furnace area. They stated they have other checks they use to see if any cracks exist that breach to exchanger area. ARS is not for me way to expensive! read more

We used ARS to replace 2 AC units 2 years ago. We went with them because they promised great warranty and great service. Today my AC unit stopped working. A part that should last 10-15 years lasted 2. Not to worry - I paid $109 for them to come out and tell me that the part is covered under warranty, but the labor will be $999. Does the tech think the part should have lasted longer? Yep. Says you can call the manufacturer, but I doubt they will do anything. read more

We used ARS for a total replacement or both furnace and A/C units, not broken just older units, 26 years old. The salesman was good and I originally called to let them know we hired another company and let worked out an even better deal. Great saver of money, as we pay via cash. The professional installers came early for install and did the whole job in 7 hours. They did drill into a fiberglass washtub, without asking and installed a condensation pump in wrong area on side of furnace vs. behind furnace. I needed to pour cement for platform to put basement back in order. They ran the a/c lines in a bad spot and will return to relocate these lines. So just a small hassle to set more time aside. I would use their service again, just wish they asked before doing some of the things that need to be changed or twiked. read more

The worst customer service. Had an appointment (just for an estimate) between 2pm and 6pm. Even setting up the initial appointment was so unnecessarily difficult. I called at 2:15pm. The operator said they could get a person there between 2:00 and 6:00pm the same day. The fact that they were telling me this at 2:15pm tells me it's all scripted. Waited till 6:00pm. No one showed. No one called to say the person was running late or whatever. I called them. Had to called them back because the first operator thought I was calling from a different state after I gave him my address. The second time I called the operator told me the tech was running late and they would call me. I say said no I'm cancelling the appointment. Why would I trust a company that has no respect for a potential customer. After I explained that the Customer Rep abruptly said goodbye. Oh...it's 6:30pm now and I just got a text message saying the ARS Tech is on his way. Next Day, ARS called again to re-schedule. I decided to give them a chance. Paid $450 to clear the outdoor drain. The ARS Technition could not clear it. Do I blame the Technician? NO. I blame myself for letting ARS steal my time and money. There's no guarantee with this company. Oh and if you see a reply from ARS about this review, I'll bet it's also scripted and been used with all the other negative reviews. read more

We were having our furnace/ac maintenance done by them - for 3 years in a row they told us our coolant in the AC was low and wanted to investigate and fix ... the unit was only 6 years old the first time they asked - so we declined. This year, after we were again told our coolant was low, we got a second opinion. The new company told us the unit is functioning perfectly and coolant levels are fine. I called for an appointment on Friday and was told to anticipate a technician in the afternoon by 2pm. This timing came and went. No call and/or update. I called back to get an update and was again told a tech was on the way. Should arrive by 4pm. Again, called for an update and told the same. I never received a call or update. Needless to say, the evening came and went without any call. Fast forward to today and multiple calls, five of them, in the afternoon. At sometimes, back to back as if this was an urgent priority. I have a service contract with ARS. They came out 12/28 for my furnace cleaning. Furnace up to this point was working fine. Come 12/30 the furnace stopped working. No heat at all until 1/2. A faulty gas valve was found. Being a Saturday and holiday it could not be repaired until 1/2. Tech came out and replaced the valve and found another part that should have been found at the tuneup. All this cost me $700. Come about 6:00 pm on 1/2 found that the furnace is not running again. Called ARS who put me on the schedule for the evening. A tech was going to call me to tell me when they would be here. He never did. Called again and said there was a mistake and they were booked until 1st thing 1/3. Very disappointed in the service and seems odd that furnace was working fine until the tuneup. read more

We had someone come out to tune up our furnace during a time we were new to the home. The tech accidentally broke one of our decorations near our thermostat and shattered it and while he was kind and apologized, there was no offer to replace. That same day, that same gentleman sold us on a 3-visit package where they'd come tune up our AC, furnace, and flush our water heater at three different times of the year, all for $250. After we bought the package and called to schedule these, the schedulers didn't know of a package and had to call us back. When they did, they wanted to schedule the furnace tuneup which just happened to be done days before so clearly they hadn't been properly trained to read their customer notes. We ended up going back and forth with their scheduling dept because no one there knew what this package was and when to schedule them (we had the info in an email). After we got it all figured out, we found out on the day of service that we'd be charged extra for a water heater flush which was supposed to be included in the package. Bate and switch. We ended up canceling the technician to come out and requested a refund for the $250. Out of principal, and a whole lot of frustration, I refuse to do business with this company with how unprofessional they've been. read more

Shower Back up performed on 11/06. Initial employee arrived at 8:45am and the second around 9:05am, work started at 9:15am completed the job and paid all transactions included at 1:45pm. Cost was $3800 total. Was informed it would be all day and instead half a day. 10 feet of pipe remedied and a couple drain items as it was an old house. Asked for itemized receipt and was informed it would be emailed. Glad it's fixed, but seems to be a rip off, please look elsewhere as they priced this with my wife and did not offer fair market rates in the market see above for 4.5 hours by 2 people at $3800. read more
