I am reviewing solely on the merit of their food as I only order takeout through Carryout Courier when I'm eating Arooga's. I've never had a bad meal and I find the menu inspiring and innovative. This was the first time I ever been to Aroogas and won't be the last. They had Troegs Nugget Nectar on tap and an awesome menu that would satisfy the pickiest eaters. The place was jumping with over 100 flat panels and bumpen music on the bar side. I had some wings , carribean jerk and buffalo blue, they were cooked to perfection. The service was on point and very friendly. I also had some ghost face killer shrimp , Shew made with ghost chilies , damn the hottest thing on the planet. Arooga's is great. I was expecting the run of the mill Sport's Bar with good wings when my husband chose this as our dinner spot. I was more than pleasantly surprised. As a sports bar this place is good. Nice bar and restaurant area. Good beer selection. Unfortunately, that's where the pluses end. Service is ok. Like everywhere else, some waitresses are better than others. Ours was mediocre. Huge menu. None of it made with any quality ingredients. Just a microwave meal kinda place. Food is AMAZING. And amazing selection of wing sauces! However, service was slowwwww. Took a while to even get seated and then forever for our food come out. And the place was far from packed. Once our food did make it to the table (over 30 mins after we ordered) our bleu cheese fries were missing and the server forgot my silverware. This was my first time at Arooga's and I was beyond unimpressed. I ordered the ribeye, which comes with potatoes and broccoli. The ribeye was beyond gristle and hardly good. The broccoli was bland and the potatoes tasted like they came from the box. The manager and waitress were extremely helpful though. They took the ribeye off the bill and apologized repeatedly. I was grateful for their actions, but I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Gross, gross, gross!!!!! This was our second time eating here. I remember the first time I was not at all impressed, but my husband wanted us to try it again because he has friends that swear by this place, so I gave in. Firstly they sat me right beside a garbage can, and when I asked for the garbage can to be moved, the waitress had an attitude about it. Well next we noticed one of our forks were very dirt, and the rest of the silverware was very iffy, being dingy and water spots. We asked for another fork and she brought us another set of silverware, well we unwrap the napkin from around it, and the inside of the napkin was all dirty and black!! So disgusting!!!! We just ate there less than a week ago and my husband came home today to tell me he found out Arooga's just failed their second health inspection in 6 months. We stopped in to watch the Women's World Cup and had a good time. We each got a salad, a burger, and a beer. Our server was friendly, but the hosts were a bit confused about seating people. My only issue was that they gave me a Smoked Gouda Burger with nothing on it except the Gouda. I had to remind them that it's supposed to have bacon, which they did revise for me. The picture in the menu showed it with lettuce, tomato, and a white sauce as well but I decided not to raise that issue. I do recommend that burger, though, because the smoked Gouda was delicious. The staff is always friendly and the food is typical of this kind of restaurant. Don't go in on a Friday during happy hour though unless you want your ears to ring the rest of the evening. There's a group of 'regulars' that control the music volume and make it that you can't have a conversation with the person sitting next to you. After complaining, the bar maids will turn it down only to have it turned right back up to rock concert level by the so called regulars. Not worth the headache so I will just go somewhere else for happy hour where the management controls things better. read more

I came in a few weeks ago for the first time eating rather than going straight to the bar and although the service was decent, my food was awful. We ordered crab dip which didn't even remotely taste like crab dip and wings. The wings were manageable but the crab dip was just awful. I think I'll stick to the drinks only for now on! read more

Had reservations for a party of 40 on Saturday night at 7pm. They were not ready for us and most of us finally left at 725 when we were told we could order drinks and apps while waiting in the lobby as they waited the "football" game out, so they could then seat us. I had heard a lot of bad things about this restaurant chain, but I had to give benefit of the doubt. Went there for lunch, and quite plainly, it was bad. Place is too dark, and while on the whole clean, the buffet area looked like a war zone. I was not going to deal with that. Waitress was nice, and a professional. Their referee's uniforms were okay, but needless to say, some of those ladies should not have been wearing them. I don't need to see rolls coming off anyone between the hem of the shirt and the tights. Olympic coverage on nearly all the TVs, which was fine. The menu is a cheap piece of flimsy paper, but there were a fair number of selections. I'm vegetarian, and I didn't expect much. I ordered the veggie wrap, and while my service was quick, it was a bunch of veggies heated on the grill, with no seasoning at all. I ordered cheese; I got a dozen shreds of what I think was cheese. The fries with a child's handful, barely warm and tasted like yesterday's. The iced tea was watery and had no bite to it. Suffice to say I got the hell out of there as quickly as I could. I have sent an email to the manager; I do not complain in public, because it's better to get away from there, think, and then write a better message. I don't expect a response; I don't want one. I am not one to give second chances to restaurants like these. I don't understand how these people stay in business, and I expect this "new" Aroogas to be gone by the end of the year. read more

My first time ever going to an Aroogas was Friday 11/8/13 with my husband during lunch. We were not rushing but we did let the waitress know that our son had a 1/2 day of school and that we had to be out at a certain time. It seemed like a really cool place and I wish I knew who my server was on Friday during lunch because she was friendly and on top of things even though she had 1/2 the tables in the restaurant side. I ordered a cheesesteak and it was good for a sports bar type restaurant. Well I thought that since I had a good expirence on Firday that today 11/11/13 (VETERANS DAY) I offered to take one of my friends there for lunch to see what she thought. Well she ordered the crab pretzel and I ordered wings and Chicken Nacho's. Well the Chicken Nacho's came out after our wings and pretzel and they were very plain. It seems that she forgot to put the nacho's into the order and by the time we got them we were done eating. So she did take them off the bill. The waitress also told us about all you can eat wings on mondays and that kids also eat free on mondays. Well the friend I was out to lunch with asked me if we could come back to Aroogas for dinner to celebrate a friends birthday instead of going to Cici's and bring the kids and we could eat wings and the kids would eat free also. Well there was 4 adults and 6 kids. We called ahead to get a table which was ready 10min after we got there. Everything started off pleasant. Our waitress (MEGAN) seemed nice at first and took our order for the kids and adults. We ordered 3 AYCE wings 1 cheesesteak 1crab pretzel for the oldest kid ($10) and 2mac n cheese kids meals, 2 chicken finger kids meals and a pizza kids meal. I ordered 1 refill of wings and so did one other mom at the table. She ordered Terriyaki boneless wings which she ate 3 out of the 5 that they bring out in a reorder and her 8yr old son wanted the last two. He was the one who ordered the Pretzel for his dinner. While the 8yr. old was eating his last 2 wings our waitress (MEGAN) came over and bruptly said there is no sharing. She said that her manager will charge us for another AYCE Wings just because the 8 yr old at the last two off his mom's plate. My friend and the other 2 mothers and myself were astounded by her comment. She wasn't even polite how she said it. As she walked away the OWNER/Manager (MARK) came over and the birthday girl asked him if he would of really charged an 8yr for eating his mom's last 2 wings. She let him know what the waitress said and he appoligized for her actions. Well it was time to go and I asked for the check for the whole table so that way nothing had to be split up. I got the check and EVERY KID MEAL was on the check. We asked the waitress (MEGAN) why all the kids meals were on the check because according to our waitress from lunch and the AROOGA's Web Site under specials it says KIDS EAT FREE ON MONDAY. There are no terms and conditions listed. Which we automatically assumed kids eat free with 1 paying adult. I only expected to pay for 1 kids meal. We asked the OWNER/Manager (MARK) why didn't the kids meals get taken off and he said that kids dont eat free when parent do the AYCE WIngs. WOW!!! I wish I would have known that and we even told him about the website and another table heard the conservation and said that they ordered the All You Can Eat wings also and they had their kids with them and they weren't too happy either. MARK said that the waitress hsould of told us how it worked before we ordered. MARK atlest offered them a dessert but we weren't offered anything besides come back next time and I will take care of you! LOL!!!. The Waitress (MEGAN) said she would take off 1 kids meal because the birthday girl ordered a cheesesteak. Well needless to say that turned out to be a big issue because she added 18% gratuity to the check and never took of the kids meal. The OWNER/Manager (Mark) had to re-run my card and fix it. I guess what got me the most upset is that if we knew that the kids weren't going to eat free like it said on the website them we would of never went. It is VETERANS DAY and I could of taken everybody to OLIVE GARDEN and had a great meal and would of gotten mine for free because of VETERANS DAY and 10% off the check for my firends and family and we would of gotten treated better. The OWNER of Cici's in YORK (MITCH) is wonderful and caring and he would of been more than cattering to our needs for our friend's birthday and kids eat free on MONDAYS. This just showed me that AROOGAS is not a place I ever want to return to and that there is a reason why places like that lack in customer service especially for VETERANS. read more

I come into arooga's usually once or twice a week since it has opened and get drinks/food at the bar. Never had a back experience till that last couple months when I would hear management yelling/screaming at a handful of their staff numerous times. I have never experienced such an uncivil, ill-mannered, impolite prick in my time in York, PA. I know what goes on in the restaurant since I am friendly with the bartenders from coming in so much, seeing what the staff at arooga's goes through is preposterous. Management is extremely discourteous, from being the eyes it seems like they don't care about their employees one bit. I have never thought I complain about someone but when you make a bartender pay a tab for someone walking out is obsurb, or yelling at an employee is even more nauseating while all their customers are around you. A bunch of us regulars here at the York Arooga's is starting a petition to get the woman manager out! And we will do whatever we can to support our Arooga's staff and take a stand to inmoral evil woman who they call a manager! The food at this place is awesome and now I am just as pleased with the service. We had a bit of a problem with our Super Bowl tailgater's special and ended up getting charged twice. District Manager Ron Lattanzio very quickly resolved the issue by pulling the money owed out of the cash register and paying us on the spot. We are very appreciative of that treatment and will continue to give this place our business. I have not ordered any food that was not awesome. They have the best strombolis around, love the wings and the chicken buffalo pretzel is to die for. read more

Worst wings ever! I ordered garlic parmesan sauce, all flats, extra wet, twice-baked, and it was garbage. Tried the almost everything wings also, just foul. Ate 2 out of 10 and threw the rest away. Simply put wings are a NO go. Oh and on top of that, I got the crab pretzel and it was even worse. Well it is certainly not made with a pretzel and the crab is fishy not crabby. Best bar in York PA!!! Don't believe the hype- the crab pretzel is no good. But the Shark-a-rita makes everything worth it!! Don't be fooled by their surface piercings- the staff is super attentive, fast, and accommodating. The clientele is bar none: Mike is a regular bar fly who will crack you up with his jibs and jabs. Right near the highway makes it a convenient location to get drunk and drive between Maryland and New York. A real fun watering hole!!! read more

So I've never had a good experience here, the food isn't always great and the service is just awful. I've always sat at the bar and have waited forever to get served or to get another drink. Well tonight I had a guy name Shane behind the bar. And he absolutely rocked it! I never had to even ask for another drink he was right there, always checking in. went in on the crab legs night.waitress was a little over bubbly . place was on the loud side with the music. slightly annoying . first plate of crab legs was big with a full plate and the flavor was great and the meat snapped out very good . ordered next plate early and it took 15 minutes to get out to the table. yes the place was busy. as the plates came for 2 1/2 hours we were there you could tell the crab legs got much saltier which slightly ruined the meal. bad move. 90% of all restaurants do not make crab-legs right. to rubbery, cold, lack of meat, empty serving trays and so on. aroogas didn't do to bad. i will go back. back off on the salt!!!!! read more

Great sports bar. Great food and friendly wait staff. We had the onion rings as an app. Amazing! They could have been the meal. I had the chicken cheese Steak. Wife had stomboli. Both dishes were good. Beer selection is good too. All the booths have tvs but you can not change the channel. The other negative is it is a Steelers bar. Go Ravens! read more

up date just revisited arooga's after some time away, they were offering a free drink up to $5 value on Saturday, Sunday and of course memorial day so could not turn that down. on Saturday I got the burger with lobster mac on it WOW lobster mac stole the show I was not expecting it to be that good it is just a shame they ruined it by burning the mid-well burger. Sunday I got boneless wings, 10 with both ghost face killer and mango habanero mix mmmmmmmm and 5 with bbq sauce of the month tropical bbq mmmmmmmmm. Tried this sports restaurant/bar twice because I really like to support locally owned businesses over the big out of town corporations . Their beer menu and drink menus have no prices. The waitresses are told to not quote prices. They tell you they have to go ask the bartender for anything you want to order, pressuring you to order blind, or they make you wait while they go about their business and come back later with a price. I wound up ordering a cheap special to avoid waiting for the price of a premium beer I would have preferred. Their prices are a little high and the fishbowls are totally full of ice. You are lucky to have 3 ounces of drink for $8. The waitresses are nice. The food was ok, the wings are good, but the rest of their food is average. The meat in the sliders 3/$9 are about 2 inches in diameter. Upcharge for the crab cake slider which seriously maybe had 1 tablespoonful of a dry patty, no tartar sauce, etc. even if ordered. The kitchen misses items on the orders, happened both times we went. Overall, I like the physical facility itself and the wait staff was nice, I have a good time going out with my friends wherever we go. However we will go somewhere else unless I hear that the product and menus have improved. Also, for those who require healthy choices, they have nothing to speak of on the menu. If you can't find something you like on this menu, you have a problem. The menu is extensive and everything I ordered for my takeout order was delicious and a good value for the money. I had a beer at the bar while waiting for my take out order, and the beer menu is as extensive as the food menu!! The wings are outstanding (especially the Ragin Cagin twice baked!!). We came here because they had a variety of gluten free options. I have a gluten intolerance and get very sick if I eat any gluten at all and can tell right away if I have been glutened. I ordered the shrimp nachos which are supposed to be gluten free. Well I do not believe that they were as I became bloated and experienced stomach pain which all happens after ingesting gluten. I was pretty upset about this as we came her specifically because I cannot have gluten and I did not want to be sick. I am not sure if it was a cross contamination issue or there truely is gluten in some of their gluten free option and they just do not know about it but it needs to be checked out as you cannot serve people gluten that cannot eat it!!! The service is awful. I walked in, waited at the desk and no one came to seat me, so I seated myself in the bar area. No one waited on me. I went to the bar for my drinks and carried them back to my table. I flagged down a waitress and she told me that if I wanted service, I should have waited at the front. When I told her no one came, she told me that I didn't wait long enough. Then, a waiter came over and said that he understood I wanted a server. He was rude. I love the original wings with Caribbean Jerk sauce, it is my guilty pleasure! Great Happy Hour drink specials, half price, can't beat that. Service was a little on the slow side as was getting the food prepared. Bartenders and servers were friendly. They need to quite nickel and diming on every little thing, like extra sauce, kid meal drinks not being included and being charged same as adult drink. I will NOT return to Aroogas again. This is the third time I have had horrible service and the food is less than good. Tonight my boyfriend and I went to Aroogas and it took us almost two hours to get boneless and skinny wings and crab soup which was terrible. Our meals were rung in the system separately and my boyfriend was finished his meal before I even got mine. When we spoke to the manager to politely describe our very poor experience she tried to make excuses and tell us that everything is made fresh. It doesn't take two hours to make fried boneless wings and grilled wings that tasted like crap anyway! They took my soup and skinny wings off the bill and it was still $13. They charged us for every cup of sauce that came with the meal. Ridiculous! I do not complain unless I have experienced a ridiculous and preventable experience. This is the 3rd darn time!! Self reflect and fix the mistakes!!! Plus our table was super wobbly and a napkin was shoved under the table. Service sucks, food sucks, prices suck. I am done with this place. read more

OK, so I have noticed a ridiculous amount of food snobs reviewing Aroogas and doing nothing but crabbing about the "poor service and horrid food". I just need to say... People, please find a life. You are in York PA. Not a 5 star downtown Chicago restaurant. I am from there, and had average culinary expectations at Aroogas. I was surprised and delighted by the array of options and the friendly(if not speedy) service. They were pretty busy but still on the ball. I was with a party of 4 and the only legitimate complaint was about the trivia that 2of our party came out for. It had been rescheduled and no one was told. Aside from that(being that it was of very little importance) we proceeded to have a great time. Someone said there were too many t.v.'s? Are you serious? How is that EVER something to crab about at a SPORTS BAR? Sorry, Aroogas, that there are such horrible, snobby reviewers out there. Believe me, you are all better off without them all.
