Armstrong installed a white spray-foam roof on my house in August 2025. I'm very happy with the roof and highly recommend this company. Before choosing spray foam for the flat roof of my 1950s house, I consulted half a dozen roofers and explored the various options (single-ply, modified bitumen, etc.) and decided spray foam had the best combination of pros and cons, including cost. I was under an insurance company deadline to replace the roof. Wayne at Armstrong was understanding about the deadline and assured me they would meet it. Even though Armstrong is a big company that does a high volume of roof projects, Wayne and the project foreman, Eliseo, found ways to fast-track the job, and they finished a few weeks before the deadline. The project was complicated because of certain issues with the roof. Wayne was great at communicating with us and providing guidance as our carpenter dealt with the various challenges. He always replied quickly whenever I contacted him, and he came by a few times during the prep work we did to check how things were going and provide advice. Wayne has decades of experience at Armstrong and extensive technical knowledge. He was easy to work with and very flexible in adjusting his schedule to sync with our carpenter's work. He was fair and generous in dealing with some unexpected problems that came up. Because of ground settling, one corner of the roof is a bit lower than the others, and heavy rain used to cause a waterfall at that corner. I'd asked several roofers how to fix this. Everyone had a different solution but none seemed completely right. Wayne and Eliseo recommended raising the fascia by 1.5", adding a new drain at the problem corner, and sloping the foam from the fascia to the drains. The problem was that a new downspout at that corner would look terrible architecturally. Eliseo thought of a brilliant solution that no one else had thought of: run the downspout along the siding and tie it to an existing downspout. We did that, the new downspout looks great (minimally visible), and I'm thrilled that their solution fixed the waterfall problem, even during torrential rains. Wayne also provided great advice on various other aspects of project and his team took pains to do a good job, all of which helped with functionality and made the new roof look well-designed and professional. Some of the products that Armstrong uses, like the bonderized steel fascia, are higher quality than what other roofers proposed to use. Note to anyone intending to tear off a tar-and-gravel roof: in our experience the tear-off of the old tar-and-gravel roof was awful. It was done by another company that Armstrong works with. Removing this type of roof is a very messy process. A blizzard of tar and gravel debris and dust went everywhere. The workers put some plastic on the ground around the house, which helped a tiny bit, but with the wind blowing and the gaps between the plastic sheets, the debris went everywhere. Also, Wayne's assurance that the insulation layer on the old roof would keep debris from getting inside the house didn't turn out to be true because of the way the roof was removed. When the tear-off was done, the grooves between the roof boards were packed with tar and gravel debris. The workers wanted to blow the debris off into the yard. We didn't want all that debris in the yard and then had to spend a week vacuuming it up so it wouldn't work its way between the roof boards into the house. Despite all the vacuuming, a lot of debris did fall inside. The tear-off company had tacked up plastic under the ceiling to catch it and they kept saying the plastic would work. In reality, it caught most of the debris but plenty of debris did fall into the house. Cleaning up, both outside and inside, took us a couple of weeks. Maybe there's a better way to tear off a tar-and-gravel roof. Regardless, the new roof is fantastic. Temperature insulation is clearly improved. On hot days, the house no longer heats up like an oven. Heating bills seem to be roughly 15-20% lower. Installing a spray foam roof that performs well requires significant expertise and experience and a top-quality foam product. Armstrong is one of the largest, oldest spray foam companies in the Bay Area, and they stand behind their work with a long warranty. (There are some negative reviews on Yelp. Before choosing Armstrong I asked Wayne about a few of them and he explained the other side of the story that the posters neglected to mention.) read more

We hired Armstrong Co to update our roof with foam material in 2019, and unfortunately, we are now dealing with serious issues due to their poor installation. Our home insurance provider has refused to renew our policy because of pooling water on the roof, which has led to excessive moss growth and leaks inside our home. When we contacted Armstrong about the issue, they claimed it was not covered under their warranty and told us to hire someone to pressure wash the roof--saying this was "normal." This past weekend, we personally removed 10 pounds of moss from the roof, which should not be necessary on a properly installed system. A well-installed roof should not have pooling water, nor should it require frequent pressure washing to function properly. I own a solar company, and it is very hard to find a roofer that can help when someone has a foam roof prior to our installing solar. I've worked on many flat roofs in the past, but the foam ones can be tricky. That was until I ran into a roof installed by Armstrong. Not only was the roof in excellent condition, but they also agreed to come out and help with the mounting of the brackets to insure that the solar wouldn't cause leaks. The 60 yrs-old foam roof in the house we bought needed updating (home insurance requirements). Foam roofing is a specialty. We got lucky: Armstrong has been superb to deal with. Efficient, responsive, and they do quality work. A few weeks after they finished their work, we thought we had a leak, but it turned out to be the old heat ducts dripping inside a room because of condensation- nothing to do with the roof. They installed a foam roof over my old composite about 6 months ago. The house was significantly more comfortable during the winter and of course the leak was gone. I picked a gray color which has blistered twice ( a known issue with the color) but the warrenty/customer service from the company has been stellar. The two times I called to report a blister, Armstrong scheduling called back right a way to make an appointment, and the team showed up on time to do the work. I was also extremely impressed with the thoroughness and care of their workers on site. The guys went beyond the call, even checking and improving little things that had nothing to do with my original request. A lot of companies have gotten sloppy in the last few years, making this company stand out even more. We've had an Armstrong foam roof installed since 2011, with no regrets. Recently we received a notice of non renewal of our home owner insurance due to what could be algae or mold on our roof. We immediately phoned Armstrong Roofing to inspect their claim. An appointment was promptly set up for the following Monday. Wayne came to our home, after he looked at our contract and aerial photos. He went up on our roof and did his own inspection and found it in good condition. By the next morning we had a letter from Wayne reporting his findings. We recently re-roofed our house by Armstrong and I have to say it's a disappointment. The salesperson, Jorge De Quesada, came and gave us a quote and then "kindly" offered a discount of $500 but asked us to undertake the permit fee. He said, "it's going to be around $200." No, it wasn't. It cost $1,099.19 by the invoice. So basically I'm paying more for the service, not even to mention being lied to my face. Also, in the beginning, Jorge said the estimated start date was the final week of October. However, in reality, they started work on November 15th. And that's a "favor" to us since someone before us canceled the service. Otherwise, it would be early December. During the waiting, I called them multiple times to check on the progress, but none of them would be anything near helpful. They're pretty good at giving you different phone numbers with nobody to answer. Well, to be honest, the job looks not bad. But I could only beg it not to leak since I don't have any hope about the effectiveness of their customer service at all. -- Updates: The CEO of the company called to apologize and resolve all the issues. He promised on the work quality and agree to make improvements on the customer service. I must say he's very sincere from the phone and I do feel the gesture. Our building did a fair amount of research on replacing our flat tar and gravel roof and decided on a foam roof for both the insulation properties and the value (if it in fact lasts as long as they say it will!) I spoke with Scott at Armstrong, and after researching on Nextdoor, feel confident they are probably the best place in the bay area to get your foam roof installed. They offer a 15 year warranty, though Scott felt confident that given the conditions of our building, we would likely get 25 years before we needed to do any resurfacing. Armstrong in particular adds a special hard coating on top of the foam roof that keeps birds from pecking at it (a problem with early foam roofs) and results in this longevity. They quoted 3 days from start to finish, and that is exactly what it took them. The crew led by Martin was very professional, showed up on time, cleaned up after themselves. Excellent service. Assuming the roof is as good as they say, and I am feeling optimistic considering the research we've done, I give high marks to Armstrong! read more

Would not recommend Armstrong. Commitment to provide periodic roof inspections, nonexistent. When handyman found holes in the foam, 4 years after roof installed, Armstrong declined to repair, attributing to bird-made holes - though no bird dew on the roof or birds observed on the roof. Finally agreed to come out to seal when cracks also found for $25 but didn't seal all the penetrations and charged $50 against my credit card. When I called to inform them holes were missed and overcharged, staff said, I was mistaken and to have my handyman fill the remaining holes. This company installed a foam roof on my property 2 years ago (that I bought this year). With the recent storms the roof is leaking TWO YEARS after installation. Their support department is difficult to get hold of and when I finally did they refused to do anything- they're too busy and even though it was only 2 years ago that they installed the roof, they won't honor the warranty as the building transferred ownership. They claim that there was no way poor roof installation caused the leak as it's spray on foam. I took the below photos which is just a section of the roof- clearly a number of gaps in the foam. Contacted Armstrong who sent their representative and after negotiations signed a written contract and wrote a deposit check for work to commence. Price was $2500.00 higher than the lowest bid and $1500.00 higher from the highest bid. ( chose Armstrong's because of their guarantee) Shortly thereafter the representative from Armstrong called and related to me that he would be fired from his job, if in fact I held Armstrong to the signed contract. I acquiesced and cancelled the work as I did not want the representative fired even though I had a signed contract to paint my home. What HAPPENED, Armstrong? Several years ago Armstrong did some work for us. They were responsive, friendly, and capable. We were so satisfied, we wrote them a thank-you letter. All those four-star reviews made total sense! But something's changed. Last March we scheduled an estimate visit from Wayne Leuchters, the fellow who'd done the estimate for our previous job. He surveyed the prospective work and explained that Armstrong was booked till late summer. But he promised to get back to us soon with an estimate. All good. But the estimate never arrived. We started asking again in June. Email after email went unanswered. Call after call went unreturned. This sounds like an exaggeration, but we made literally a dozen attempts to contact Armstrong. We talked to answering machines and left polite, friendly queries when humans answered the phone. Zero response. Finally, two weeks ago, Mr. Leuchters wrote a brief note. saying he would "re-send" the estimate. There was never any estimate, though I charitably assumed this was simply an oversight. But today Leuchters finally wrote back, declining the job, and claiming he'd told me at the time of the estimate that Armstrong no longer did shingle work. Since shingle work constituted most of the job, why the ongoing promises of an estimate? (That is, the estimate he claimed he'd already sent.) During the estimate visit, he'd even directed me to a website where I could search for possible replacement shingles! I have no doubt that Armstrong still has the capacity to do solid work. But their mind-boggling lack of responsiveness, their misrepresentations, and their decision to decline the job after keeping us on the hook for four months was beyond the pale. I have no idea why this once-dependable vendor became so spectacularly irresponsible. But after this debacle, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere for your home improvement needs. We had our roof redone by Armstrong in late May, due to leaking. Our experience had been very positive. All their staff were very professional, courteous, and did their jobs very efficiently. Since then, we have noticed that our house has a more moderate temperature, with a lot less fluctuation, and it always feels comfortable. We call it our "magic" house. We have not had a big rainstorm since the roof was redone, but we are hopeful that they have plugged the leaks. All in all, if you have a flat roof, we would highly recommend their services. He was very thorough when explaining my options to hopefully cut down my sky high PG&E bill. He suggested that I get foam roofing. The installation process went as well as it could go. We were given a home owner's non-renewal notice from our insurance company, due to roof condition "issues". They used a drone photo taken right after a series of rain storms, which obviously was going to show mud and leaves. This is a practice that's being used now and let me just say it's problematic. CA policy holders are at the mercy of insurance companies right now, so rather than getting into a tit for tat, which I was sure to lose, getting a reseal was the direction we decided to take. The previous owners had given us info on the foam roof installed by Armstrong. I drove there with the insurance paper work and the person who actually had installed it came out to discuss the current situation. They are inundated with issues such as ours, and along with other projects, the months of rain have created a backlog of over 3 months.. This would make getting the roof work done by the policy cancelation date, very hard. He wrote a letter to our carrier explaining this along with the fact that they implement a very specific type of roofing product that very few others do correctly. The underwriters cut us only marginal slack, requesting photos by the deadline and if none, they would create another non-renewal date. Everyone at Armstrong understood our predicament and worked very hard to keep us informed of where we stood. We were on their cancelation list and they did the pre-site visit as soon as they could. As luck would have it, they were able to accomodate our job 2 weeks from our policy cancelation and promptly provided all of the photos that our insurance company required. The folks at Armstrong return phone calls promptly, step in with documentation when asked and communicate very clearly on process and instructions for the homeowners. I waited until we got our first real heatwave to make this review. I got an spf (foam roof) done in January during The pandemic. George was our salesperson and explained everything to us and was very patient. He worked with us financially and explained that since we had mostly a flat roof we would really benefit with a foam roof. During previous heat waves our home would be an oven!!! I mean it would get up to 96 degrees, we would all have to huddle in one room with the portable ac to even try to be comfortable. George said once we get this roof we would see almost a 15-20 degree cooling difference during a heatwave! OMG what a difference!! We no longer need the AC and it's a comfy 75 degrees during 100 degrees weather outside!! I'm a true believer! Best investment!! I have an experience with Armstrong that can only be described as a bait & switch. I'll write this review to map to each stage of my experience with them as a customer: They canvassed my neighborhood looking for business, I spoke to them about replacing my large two front windows, and after an enthusiastic conversation, they responded to tell me that the job would be too small for them to take on. I asked them to reconsider, they pressured me to replace other windows which were in good shape and did not need replacing. We settled on the two window job and I waited two weeks for appointment for an on-site assessment to get the process going. A sales rep came by, I told him my budget, he showed me the product, and he told me he'd get me an offer in the next few days. He returned a week later, wanted to meet in person rather than giving me the offer on the phone, and presented me with an offer that was over my budget. I reminded him what my budget was, and he knocked of 15% to get me to my comfortable price range, we signed a thorough contract, and I gave him a deposit check. I was assured that the overall cost would include the window manufacturing, labor, and taxes. 48hrs later, I get a call from his manager saying that the sales associate gave me a quote that didn't include labor and that he needed to charge me an extra $4K. I reminded him that I had a signed contract with them, and that I was assured my price included things like labor. I then spoke to his boss, who told me that it wasn't just the labor, it was also 'materials' for the job, and that we needed to sign a new contract. I told him this was unacceptable, that I had a signed contract with them, and that the quote they had given me was already quite a lot for a two window job. He said they have they authority to cancel any agreement that they have within a three day period. He offered to 'work with me' on the new $4K that I now had to owe them, or he wanted me to "take my wife out for a great dinner and to send him the bill" for the trouble he caused us. I told him I didn't need this, I wanted them to honor our original contract or tear up my deposit check immediately. As a homeowner, I don't have time for flakey contractors or service providers who misrepresent what they can deliver with unreliable staff. I sunk about 4 weeks of time trying to get to this point to get the job started, and now I'm back to square one. Worst experience I've had recently regarding home repair. We have an Eichler home in San Mateo that needed repairs. I called and left many messages with Anderson since we hear them on the radio all the time, figured they were the best. I finally spoke to someone in a call center who said they would send out an estimator. The estimator showed up with NO LADDER and asked to borrow ours. He climbed to the top of the ladder and surveyed the roof but NEVER ACTUALLY GOT ON THE ROOF! He climbed down and gave us a $25000 estimate and told us they could do it next spring. From his vantage point, there's no way he could see the other part of the roof that was heavily damaged nor could he see the top of the second floor addition so I knew darn well that quote was going to double when the workers actually made it on the roof. He pressured us to sign an contract right away and we declined as I was going to shop around. If this is indicative of their actual work, I am glad we chose another company, American Foam Experts who properly appraised our roof in one day and we had a new roof complete and done within a month. I would not recommend Anderson at all and you'd be wise to do a LOT of research before you choose a roofer. read more

Armstrong put on a new roof and I am happy to say, that it survived the torrential downpours of the last month, without incident. Everything in the building is as dry as could be! No more leaks! Just a quick update. It's 100 degrees outside today and it's 73 in my house this afternoon at 2:00 pm. No AC or fans. Absolutely amazing!

This company rocks. I had them give me a quote last January to foam my roof. They honored the quote when I pulled the trigger in August. The sales staff were very responsive whenever I had a question before and during the installation. The installation crew were absolutely fabulous. They came on time and cleaned up the area every day. When they did the foam they covered every car in the neighborhood, even the two cars in the carport across the street. They were among the most professional folks I've met. I don't know who does the training but they were 6 star IMHO. The job was outstanding. The foam insulates the house much better than the old tar and gravel.
