The service was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable without ever feeling overbearing. You can tell the staff genuinely care about individual experience. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with the perfect blend of British pub charm and fine dining. Every dish we tried was unique. Loved the charred naan appetizer with variety of dips; the feta dip was so creamy and flavorful. Also keep in mind the pot pies rotate between 1-2 varieties daily, and lucky for me they had chicken which was so dreamy. Also absolutely devoured that flakey tangy fish with crispy chips. I got really lucky and ended up with a last-minute Saturday night outdoor reservation at Armitage Alehouse. We arrived right at 7pm, so it was about as busy as it gets, but the staff was friendly and efficient while getting folks checked in for their reservations. We had an outdoor table near a warming lamp, so we were comfortable despite it being kind of chilly out. We started with the naan and whipped feta, which was absolutely delicious. The naan was charred and chewy with the feta complementing it perfectly. We then moved on to their classic chicken pot pie (a must) and an order of steak frites. We got there 15 minutes prior and the line got busy as the time approached. Upon getting seated, you immediately see why this restaurant is nearly impossible to score a reservation for. The interior is beautiful, intimate, and dimly lit--perfect for a date-night or if you're trying to impress visitors. The main dining room is opulent and warm. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. He gave us ample time to look through the menu and informed us that the fries were fried in tallow (beef fat). Which was helpful, since one of us is pescatarian. We ordered the samosas as an appetizer. They were flaky and delicious, especially accompanied by the green herb chutney. 4.5 out of 5 Next, we ordered the smoked trout Caesar salad. It was generously coated with Parmesan, and the dressing was fantastic. 4.5 out of 5 For my entree, I ordered the famous wagyu cheeseburger. The meat melted in your mouth except for the burnt, crispy edges. I visited for a night cap and dessert. We sat at the bar and it seems that in the evening hours the service slows down. It took about 15-20m for the bar tender to come over although there was only 4-5 people seated at the bar. When I attempted to walk to the other side of the bar to get the other bartenders attention the bartender closest to us asked for our order. It seems to be much easier to get a seat ~2h before close but I would caution coming at this time because the service lags a bit. Nevertheless the sticky date cake was very good. Finally secured a reservation with armitage alehouse and it fits the dark and moody rich vibes of the hogsalt brand. Interior is very cute, especially once you pass the first room and get into the main dining room with each section a different theme (jungle, boats, etc...). Ambiance is incredible even to the bird themed bathroom. Great service from all the staff. Food is darn good but in my opinion i think other hogsalt restaurants blew me away more than armitage alehouse did. However it is definitely worth a visit and food will still be delicious regardless. We ordered a dirty martini which came with some blue cheese stuffed olives that my husband enjoyed. We split a bunch of items to get an idea for what the restaurant has to offer. The trout Caesar salad was wonderful and had a heaping amount of Parmesan. From previous reviews we ordered the charred naan with whipped feta, I personally think it was ok but my husband loved it. For mains we split the chicken pot pie (absolutely incredible it's really tough to make a pie that moist and flavorful on the inside but crispy on the outside), wagyu burger (very good), and the prime rib sandwich (also very good). Armitage Alehouse was on my list to try for a long time so I was excited to snag a reservation for a friend's birthday celebration. We started with the smoked trout caesar salad and the hype is real. The salad is perfectly balanced and the salt and vinegar chips are a great addition. I got the burger on a gluten free bun and was once again impressed by their ability to do simple classics well. The burger was flavorful and well cooked and the topping all complemented the meat without being overpowering. My biggest letdown of the meal was the fries. I thought they were fine, but nothing more than that. The provided aioli helped a little but they definitely weren't memorable. My friends both had very good things to say about the chicken pot pie and steak frites. They shared the famous sticky date cake which they said was deserving of its notoriety. I got the flourless lava cake which was very good, maybe too rich for one person. They brought my friend complementary vanilla gelato with warm toffee sauce for her birthday that we all throughly enjoyed. Our server was friendly and very conscientious of my gluten allergy. The vibes here are immaculate, you notice immediately once you step inside. Big fan of the wood and dimmed soft lighting they used here, a staple of Hogsalt's blueprint. We enjoyed our food, including the famous sticky date cake. They definitely know their seafood here. While the food was great, we didn't think the meal was particularly memorable either considering how far in advance we had to make our reservation. If we could, we would had just ordered the cake alone. The cake was extremely sweet and the brown butter gelato helped cut through some of the sweetness for us. I live right in Lincoln Park so we walked over & put ourselves on the waitlist right at 4:00pm, and we were still 20th & 21st on the list. It took us about 2 hours for our table to be ready. We got seated at the bar top, which was totally fine, and we immediately ordered our food. We selected the chicken tikka masala, truffle mafaldine, & English-cut prime rib sandwich. Everything was SO delicious. The chicken tikka masala was sooo yummy, and they gave me such a large portion size with lots of chicken. The truffle pasta was sooo delicious--it was so creamy & truffley. It was not at all greasy, and the portion size was also huge. The prime rib sandwich was also just SOOOO good. It probably was my favorite of the three food items. It was perfect & paired so well with the horse radish. We also ordered a side of french fries with garlic aioli sauce, and it was so yummy!!! Afterwards, we ordered the sticky date cake. I was a bit reluctant at first because I'm not a huge fan of dates BUT IT WAS SO YUMMY!!! I rarely will say this but it was a bit too dirty for me, but the blue cheese olives were great. For appetizers we got the naan bread and Caesar. The naan bread came with two big pieces, 1 piece no seasoning and one covered. The one with was a bit overpowering and dint quite go with the lamb spread we ordered. The regular naan was great! The smoked trout Caesar was a bit too fishy. The trout was overpowering as well. For mains we did the chicken pot pie and the fish and chips. They only had the Heritage Chicken (classic) and Steak & Ale (prime beef, brown ale, peas & carrots) pot pies that day which was a bit disappointing because we were hoping to try any one of the others (Spiced Lamb, Duck & Morel, Oxtail & Wine). However, the classic chicken pot pie was perfect! The second it was brought to our table, we could instantly smell the buttery pie crust. It had a bone marrow right in the middle of it (all the pies do). The dessert was amazing. The cake was soft and moist and was topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Our seat was right by the entrance in a really cool nook that was super moody. The seating was a cool array of interior design and cool lamps and paintings. Nothing missed, and I wouldn't change a thing. If you're ordering appetizers, those four are musts. For mains, we shared the burger, the duck pot pie (one of their rotating hot pie specials, served with bone marrow), and the chicken tikka masala. All were great choices. The burger was solid -- not the best burger in Chicago, but very good. The pot pie and chicken tikka masala really stood out and were both excellent. We were able to walk in on a very cold Sunday at 3:45 p.m. and we were immediately seated (we were in second in a huge line and got there around 3:30). They were not taking walk ins before 3:45 FYI. Our waiter was amazing and we had a cozy booth table. We enjoyed the tartare, a pot pie, and the french dip sandwich. The tartare was very good and I liked the bread it was served with. The bone marrow pot pie was also delicious but I'm not sure if it was as hot as it should have been. It was not piping hot (more lukewarm), but the flavors were good. The bone marrow had a really good amount of marrow in it. The french dip I could have gone without. I don't think it's special or stands out in anyway from any other french dip and I think the bread could be better. I fear Armitage Alehouse may rank amongst my top five favorite restaurants, which is really a shame since I live in Minnesota. After two unsuccessful attempts at snagging a dinner reservation (despite logging in 21 days before right at 9:00am with hopes in just getting a Monday or Tuesday dinner resy), I settled for lunch at noon on a snowy Wednesday in December. The interior is everything they say it will be and more. Deep browns and reds invite you to hunker into a comfortable booth and stay for a lunch so long the afternoon appears to slip away. The wood paneled walls, deep leather chairs, tasteful Christmas decor and intricate chandeliers all add to the impression that you are not in Lincoln Park but rather a deeply romantic pub in London circa 1920s. Delice de Bourgogne and Truffle Honey: bread and cheese, yes but so much more! The Delice de Bourgogne is a soft, ripened, spreadable cheese (similar in texture to Brie) which is accompanied by thick slices of sourdough bread, toasted just right. A truffle honey blankets the cheese and adds a hint of sweetness to cut through the cheese's creaminess while the truffle flavor is subtle. A perfect, yet rich, appetizer to start. Steak and Ale Pot Pie: Each day, two of the five pot pies are available to order, and I would say of the three dishes this was probably my least favorite (but was still very much enjoyed). The pot pie encircles a generous portion of bone marrow and comes with a crisp crust and piping hot interior. The steak was somewhat bland but the peas and carrots were cooked to perfection. The crust was a litter softer than I would have preferred but in hindsight, I did have this after perhaps the best burger of my life, so nothing could have compared. I loved the bone marrow touch, adding such a rich flavor to the already gorgeous dish. The mashed potatoes that coat the bottom of the dish were decadent - creamy, hot and buttery. Wagyu Double Cheese Burger: What my dreams are made of! The two patties are hot, sizzling, flavorful and lacy. Although the menu does not clearly delineate the accompaniments, the burger is served with small diced white onions and pickles to provide some acidity. The cheese is melt-away and blends in with the patties seamlessly. There is an orange sauce on the bun, probably an aioli of sorts, but it is a mere background singer, such that the patties remain the star of the show. Served on a never-soggy, soft, pliant white bun, I wish I hadn't split this masterpiece with my brother. The fries that come with it are an afterthought, but the side of white aioli is perfection and I certainly added some to the burger itself. I actually appreciated the lunchtime reservation as I felt like the service was still excellent and the vibes will be on point any time of the day. Just remember that when you go in for lunch, you will still be greeted by sunlight when you step out of one of the most special meals of your life. My favorites were the Wagyu burger, the spiced lamb pot pie, and the mussels. The Caesar salad and chicken pot pie were classic, exactly what you'd expect, nothing crazy. The Crispy Bombay Potato was enjoyable for the first couple of bites, but I got bored with it. The lamb pot pie had a nice depth of flavor. While the Wagyu burger was tasty, a burger is a burger to me. The mussels looked simple but flavorful. And the sticky date cake, which everyone raves about, was definitely heavenly at first, but it did get a bit too sweet if you're not into very sweet desserts like me. There's also a 3% surcharge added to the bill, which I didn't know about. You can ask for it to be removed if you'd like. Our total came out to about $70 per person. Absolutely incredible. I'm speechless. We got the fish & chips, chicken pot pie, tikka masala, wagyu double cheeseburger, naan with whipped feta, and alehouse chopped salad. When I tell you eveything was a 10/10 - believe it. Everything was of the upmost highest quality of ingredients. Hogsalt continues to be a top tier restaurant group. Armitage Alehouse is - without a doubt - a top 5 Chicago restaurant. Food: 5/5. Their samosas are phenomenal - some of the crispiest, tastiest samosas you'll ever try, with an amazing sauce. Chicken tikka masala is very solid, and their fish and chips are perfectly cooked and seasoned. The sticky date cake is a MUST. Might be the best dessert I've ever had. Ambiance: 5/5. We've lived nearby for 8 years and this was the first time here! It was PERFECT! Can't go wrong with any Hogsalt restaurant but this place is awesome. We got the steak tartare, smoked trout Caesar salad, chicory/mango/paneer salad, and the steak and ale pot pie. TO. DIE. FOR. The steak tartare is the best in the city. We've had quite a few. Decided to drip in last minute on a Sunday evening. We did not have a reservation and thought due to the busy area we might have a long wait, it did end up being about 20 minutes which wasn't too bad. The place looks small when you walk in but it actually wraps around and opens up to larger area with more tables. It dark and has that speakeasy vibe. Walkways are quite tight and it is lively due to how busy they are snd the seating. We were seated at the bar and the bartender was very prompt with taking our order. We got the cheeseburger which was a pretty good smash burger, the prime rib, which was well done but it seemed like an elevated Italian beef and some naan which was gooey and soft. We enjoyed all our food, but nothing stood out. The dessert was the star, we got the sticky date cake. I highly recommend giving it a try. Drinks were really good and the mixologist was happy to customize. This is a great spot to have a date or enjoy an evening meal or drink. read more

This is one of the toughest reservations to land right now, and we were lucky to grab a Sunday brunch spot. It was the perfect fall weekend to sit outside, sip cocktails, and enjoy some really great food. I started off with a smooth espresso martini and followed it up with an excellent Boulevardier. For food, we started off with their thick-cut maple-pepper bacon. Then we split the Wagyu Double Cheeseburger, two perfectly grilled smash patties, melty cheese, house sauce, and crispy fries. Then the Pike Fish & Chips, with golden fried fish, amazing crispy chips, and one of the best remoulades I've ever had. Even though we were stuffed, we had to try the sticky date cake for dessert and it was the perfect sweet ending. I will return the next time I'm in Chicago, and I want to thank Declan for the amazing service and recommendations. read more

Well worth the wait! I'm so excited to have accidentally stumbled upon Armitage Alehouse while hanging out in Lincoln Park. It's small, cozy and intimate. The wait for two people was over an hour on a Tuesday night, but I was able to walk down the street to Kincades for a beer while I waited. Protip: don't think you can hang out at the Alehouse bar while you wait. Bar seats are considered regular seating. Once we were seated at the bar, we were able to chat with our bartender Zach who was very helpful, gave us tons of excellent recommendations. Every single thing we ordered was so scrumptious. I'm just disappointed we were too full to try to date cake that I had read about. The pot pie was incredible. The steak tartare was excellent and the miso fish dish we had was plate licking good. Got a reservation right when they came out. Was really looking forward to trying this place!! The food was pretty good, but it seemed mildly overhyped. The interior was cozy and felt like an elevated British pub. I was very disappointed in the service and pacing. Dishes took really long to come out. Our server kept disappearing and it was so hard to track them down. They never checked on our table and it really felt like they were checking on other tables more than us. The bussers were really great, though, wish my tip could've gone to them instead. Not only that, it also felt like the server talked and only made eye contact with my partner? As if I didn't matter. I don't know, it really soured our experience and I really don't think I'll ever return. The food was pretty good but I'd rather go to other Hogsalt restaurants after this. I really liked Armitage Alehouse. The service was great and the restaurant itself is beautiful. The food definitely lived up to the hype, especially the sticky date dessert. I was pleasantly surprised by the burger and honestly thought it was better than most of the burgers I've tried in Chicago. In my opinion, it beats Au Cheval. My friends and I finally scored a reservation here this past Sunday at 2:15pm after a few failed attempts. Dinner slots literally disappear in seconds! The atmosphere is incredibly cozy, with dim lighting, rich wood tones, and that classic pub warmth that makes you want to linger. Our server was attentive and friendly, even giving us a few great recommendations. We started with the spinach and paneer samosa, then shared the spiced lamb pot pie, chicken breast tikka masala, and a side of sweet peas and bacon. The spiced lamb pot pie was easily the standout. I've never had spiced lamb in a pie before, but it worked beautifully, especially with the bone marrow. Overall, the food lived up to the hype, though I'm not sure it's worth the hassle of chasing down a reservation. Still, it's one of those places that's worth experiencing at least once. read more
