Our home, which was built in the '20s had knob and tube wiring. Yes, posts with bare wires wrapped around them. We also had barely enough power in the house to run a washing machine and computer at the same time. The guys came in, removed all the old wires and junctions, replaced everything, added conduit throughout and spent a lot of time advising us on the myriad questions we had. Due to timing issues, electrical code changed mid job. The guys at 4-Over had to go back in and add a some new items. A very difficult job was done on time and budget. They did a great job with a difficult home. My general advice, if you are buying or contemplating rewiring and old home, be aware of the amount of behind the wall access you need. This means holes in the wall, and if you have a difficult plaster job afterwards, be prepared. 4 Over called us many times during the job to ensure we REALLY wanted that light in that partiucular place due to the holes it would cause. We appreciated that. I now know a good plasterer for you also, but he isn't on yelp. :)

The fairest price for a visit/diagnosis was Preferred Electric. But wait, so few ratings, how can I trust them? Looked up their license. In good standing, current and active for 35 years? So why not, I rolled the dice. George was not only on time but early. Friendly. Nice. And most important, diagnosed the issue on the spot, had the parts in his truck, and charged a genuinely fair price. Summary: The highest-rated electrician on Yelp is a scammer. And seriously professional guys like George, who only got around to Yelp recently (and so have few reviews) look like amateurs. When the reverse is definitely true in this case.
