I had a surprisingly awful experience with a salon that shall-not-be-named down the street that had me walking out before the haircut even started, not something I would normally do! Then I happened to walk into this place to see if they had an opening. While normally too busy to take a walk-in, I lucked out that Bianca had half an hour free before her next appointment. In that time, she gave me a full consult, wash, wonderful haircut, and was incredibly kind and professional throughout. She even flat ironed my bangs as I asked and expertly dried my hair w a diffuser. My hair is curly and thick, not the easiest to handle, but I walked out with exactly what I was hoping for. There was a bang trim here, and touch up there, and now she's my official colorist and stylist. Not only does she do my hair, but she's in the family...she does the best friend, the boyfriend, the brother, and the mother now. ha! I've seen her fix the irreparable, transform the wall flowers, and beautify the surly, and I'll keep recommending her for all hair types and peoples. I have known owner Bianca Brookman for over 20 years (can that be true? shit, I guess it is). She knows her stuff, she knows me, and she knows not to put a bunch of crap in my hair. I love the look of glee in her face when I let her do something more than just give me a trim. She rocks. Seriously - she is the best colorist in the free world and I have always left there feeling like a rock star, glamor-puss. Even when I was 8 months preggo. I got my whole bridal package here and everyone looked GREAT. I went in a couple of days before to get some waxing done and I have to say that Pegi is a goddess (only a little ribbing for being a consummate plucker ). This review is long overdue. All of my very picky guy friends get their hair cut at aria by Bianca and have recommended her for ages. I have extremely tricky, terrible hair and am always reluctant to trust that to anyone. When my previous stylist was out of town (who gave me awesome hair cuts--but my hair was just too long to wait), I went to Bianca for a haircut and ended up with the best cut of my life. I left with the hair I had always wanted--sexy, layered, easy--and I have never looked back. Most places take 60-90 minutes to blow out my hair after a cut (really, I have awful thick curly hair), but Bianca makes it happen in 20-30 minutes after a super precision cut. And it always looks awesome. Ii recommended her to my buddy Elizabeth with similar hair, and after one cut with Bianca, she has become an equal devotee. I came to Aria after my other appointment fell through. The stylists fought over who would color my hair. Imagine how awkward this was for a customer. I sat down quietly anyway. I am not one to fight. Bianca colored my hair and it did not turn out right. She half heartedly said she would color me again if I didn't like it after a week. I left feeling terrible. When I gave her a call after a week, I was stunned at the way she spoke to me. I didn't know what I was expecting anyway since she was kind of mean spirited the entire appointment. I could tell she didn't want to recolor me and I didn't feel like subjecting myself to this salon anymore. I cancelled my second appointment. I understand my hair is difficult to color, what I'm unhappy about is the way I was treated here. I hope this was a flute because I really, really wanted to like it here. read more

I'm kind of a shy guy, so the first time with a new masseuse can feel awkward for me...which kind of defeats the purpose of getting a massage, yeah? WELL, that was certainly NOT the case when I got a full body massage with Gina at Aria Salon. She rocked my world. For real. She showed me her space before the massage and I got to pick some great music to relax to. The sound of rain and bells...quite pleasant. I also got to choose from a wide assortment of aromas. During the massage, Gina was good about checking in with me to make sure i felt alright, but not so often that it became distracting. She was incredibly easy to talk to, but still very professional. At one point when she was working on my back I totally drooled. Thankfully, Gina had plenty of tissue! I've had many professional massages, and this was the first time I felt COMPLETELY comfortable before, during AND after. I initially went in for back pain I'd been having for a while, and I left feeling like a new person. Sounds cheesy, I know, but it's true. Go see her. You know you want to. Pegi sculpted and snipped my eyebrows into greatness. She has great bedside demeanor: chatting on the way in, making recommendations before waxing, and using a gentle touch and quiet calm to make the experience note-worthy. She was fast and pleasent to work with. What Aria doesn't tell you is that Pegi works as a contractor and Rebekah is an employee. Therefore, Rebekah's cost is $18 (as listed on their pricing guide) while Pegi's is $20. The price was worth my pretty brows, though, and I'll be going back for my first bikini wax this summer. (Yikes!) One last note: credit cards are accepted, but Pegi prefers cash or check. read more

People complain about the cost of salons, but at Aria each $120 cut and color also came with about three hours of therapy. Given that therapists charge $100 per hour, and I came out both feeling saner *and* looking good, it seems like a bargain to me. My favorite stylist, Janeiro, was full of insights about relationships, book suggestions and cooking tips as well as, you know, hair advice. My hair hasn't looked as good ever before, partly because she was so meticulous. One Saturday my appointment was at 3:00 and I was late for a 7:00 date. When she went on maternity leave, she left me in Tamara's almost-as-awesome hands. I don't go to Aria anymore 'cause we bought a house and want to have a kid and "frugal" is the name of the game (and as far as the therapy part, I guess I'll just bury my anger or read self-help books). I haven't been back since Tamara got my hair all perfect for my wedding over a year ago. But oh, I miss it. read more

Not bad but definitely not great. I scheduled for full highlights and a cut. Pros: They were able to fit me in on a very short notice. I saw Josh, who was extremely nice and personable. He talked me through the options with my hair color. I was looking to maintain my current highlights and brighten up a little bit but not much. I stressed that I wanted to be very careful that the blond did NOT turn that bad shrimpy color, especially when it started fading. The cut seems fine; he didn't cut off too much, which happens often. Cons: My hair looks.... not great. The color is... wait for it... SHRIMPY! He also gave me WAY too many options when he was explaining all of the different ways that my hair could be colored, along with showing all of those little hair color swatches that look nothing like your real hair color once it's actually applied. I felt like a broken record repeating that I wanted to maintain what I had. Conclusion: Josh was nice and his prices were very reasonable. I'd suggest possibly going for a regular maintenance cut, but never color. Probably not going back. read more

For waxing I am not simple...corse, dark hair and I always get waxed the second I can - when it's hardly long enough. Alicia obviously knew what she was doing -and worked meticulously in getting the strays. I liked her better than Wax On or Salon Dewi. I have been getting eyelash extensions for 4 years (you could say I'm addicted.). I've moved all over, had them done in LA, Portland and Seattle and by far, Tamara is the best 'lashing' I've ever had. She's excellent, detail oriented and super friendly. I've been a customer since I moved to the hill about 5 years ago and had an epiphany that Gene Juarez is kind of lame and overpriced (also my stylist got a nosebleed while coloring my hair and the assistant who had to take over royally screwed it up but that is a tale for another review). I go to Bianca, the owner, who is great. I want to feel like my stylist is cool and hip and all that but also approachable and down to earth and not a judge-y biatch and she totally accomplishes this balance. I have curly hair and she can handle that (not all stylists can). She listens very well. As a result of her listening and her mad hair skills, my naturally frizzy-mess locks are now slightly but not TOO chemically relaxed, streaked blonde but not TOO streaked or TOO blonde, and I am rocking BANGS. All of this is a triumph considering my hair's natural texture. I finally feel somewhat at peace with my hair (it used to be perpetually hidden in a messy bun). Also she knows how to not take things too far with the chemicals so my hair doesn't fall out. I had my hair and makeup done here for my wedding, and it turned out flawlessly. Also had the bridesmaids' hair done here, by several stylists, and none of them tried to pull that horrific, prom-y, boing boing curl, hair pyramid shit, which I see appear at weddings with horrifying frequency. All of the updos were very sleek and modern but did not upstage mine which is obviously clutch. Sometimes they are really busy and I've had to wait a while past my appointment time on a couple occasions. That is really the only downside. Definitely recommend Aria and specifically Bianca. read more

I decided to give lash extensions a try, and after asking several friends who to go to (and looking around quite a bit online), I took the advice of a friend who has been seeing Tamara for years, and I was THRILLED that I did. Tamara went out of her way to accommodate me as a brand new client just before I left town for a vacation. She was efficient, friendly, professional and most importantly - my lashes were stunning. I have gone back in for my first fill, and I can't imagine going without them. I have gotten compliments from family, friends, co-workers, even strangers on the plane while on vacation. I did not splurge for the Mink lashes, though I know others have and have loved them. Tamara will help you choose the best length and thickness for your own personal preferences. I went for the longest and thickest set, but I have friends who have opted for a more natural look - whatever you desire - she will deliver! I cannot recommend Tamara and Aria highly enough. She even has weekend hours for those who can't make it during the week. Pro tip: cards are accepted, but cash is preferred. Go forth and be beautified! read more

It took me years to find a hairstylist in Seattle and Tamara Hamry is the bomb. I've been going to her for four years. She did my wedding, she does the regular trims, she is my fashion inspiration. She tailors each cut and color to your face, your personal style and your time commitment (as in, I would love to spend an hour each day getting my hair just so, but in reality, I don't want to spend more than 15 minutes messing with it.) From the minute you step in the door, Aria offers a pleasurable experience. They offer you coffee or water if there's a wait, and the staff are all very pleasant and accommodating; they seem to truly enjoy working there. The only caveat is that it can be a bit pricey, which is fine because Aria is NO Super Cuts. They won't rush through a cut in 10 minutes and you wont get a newbie stylist. I didn't even have to "check in". Nice touch- gained some points right from the get go. He offered me tea.... and then we began talking hair. Wow. There is no question about it- this guy knows his stuff. Not only did I get a cut.... but he even foiled and toned my hair with the bit of red that I so love. I walked out of the salon with the exact cut and color that I have been dreaming of. I appreciate Josh's ability to listen to what the customer wants and take that extra mile... even if it means that the appointment will take a little longer than anticipated. Aria is a friendly and relaxed salon. I get my hair cut and colored by Tamara and love what she does. I am not natural blonde...but she makes it look naturaly and amazing. I've had stylists color my hair brassy, bright yellow, etc - but she totally gets it and uses the right tones and everything. I recently cut my hair shorter and brought in my "inspiration" pic - she did it EXACTLY as pictured. That's rare! p.s. Josh is knowledgeable and honest about how certain hair types are able to handle colour and cuts - which is exactly what one needs when experimenting with new hairstyles. Also I am continually complimented by my friends after each new haircut and asked to refer them. Now for the rest. They are strict users of Redken, and some other mediocre brand, Basically, I wanted very brght red hair, and Janiero gave me medium burgindy, maybe bright for someone, but NOT what I asked for. In beetween the 3 hour $300 visit, she tried to sell me on multiple products from the salon, as well as some BS perfume MLM thing she is involved in. All that said, she is a talented colorist, but Id recocomend her if your going to touch up your grey or something, not for a full style change She wants to do what she wants to your hair, not what you want. read more

All staff members are very courteous and professional. Need products to tame your mane? They've got several high-end lines that will get you looking great. Ditto the positive comments on Rebekah for brazilians. I came here after a less than positive experience at Wax On. I still prefer the hard wax brazilians I got from Cleise in Chicago (if you're ever there, I highly recommend her salon). Rebekah uses hot wax, as does Wax On, but she's more detail-oriented and takes more care than Wax On did. It hurt more than hard wax, but Rebekah's friendly enough that she'll converse with you & take your mind off the pain a bit. read more
