They have good pastries but they have the same things every time I go maybe they should change their menu up a bit. The bread they sell isn't that great either, the cinnamon bread I got was just meh kinda plain. Also the staff could be friendlier, they are never smiling and I always feel rushed to hurry up and order when I walk in, even when no one is behind us. This is the best bakery for pasteries in Calaveras County. They are open early in the morning for those awake at dawn and needing a caffeine fix and do not skip the big cinnamon rolls baked fresh everyday. They melt in your mouth. We had lunch at Aria fourth of July weekend and had a great meal. The sandwiches are fresh and delicious. Staff is also friendly and quick. We also left our IPOD on the seat outside and did not notice until we got to Oakdale that we had left it somewhere. We called Aria and they were so nice, they said they had found it and that they would send it on Wednesday when they had the time. Aria are a local institution and for a very good reason. They are very small, but they never ever rest on their laurels and serve sub standard food. Everything, every day is made with care and attention. Things I love: Their BLT on sourdough - HUGE, I make it last for two meals: it is my treat to myself! Coconut Macaroons: rich and sticky with a chewy 'crust'. Another treat for me! The breads are lovely, lots of variety and fresh everyday. Finally, we order their festive Yule Log every year for Christmas and it is DIVINE! Things to be aware of before you go: this is not a starbucks, they are in a tiny space and the small staff are kept extremely busy. If you want something in particular, order ahead, or arrive early. I confess to being Airia addict. I live in Murphys and almost any excuse will do to get me there. I like the fresh baked goods, especially almond croissants and blueberry muffins loaded with berries, the sandwiches are made with fresh organic foods, and the coffee and espresso is the best in town. The woman who runs it is friendly, the staff is helpful. Do not be fooled by the tiny space. I stopped in town today to buy a scone at my usual place but they were sold out. Walked over to Aria and decided to purchase my scones there. The special flavor was orange-chocolate. I thought that would suffice. I then decided to skip my usual coffee place and ordered my Americano. What I thought could not compare to my usual scone exceeded my expectations and now this scone may be my new favorite. The scone was a nice size, generous, good crust with sugar and very fresh and moist inside. The orange and chocolate combo was super yummy. Loved it! The Americano was very delicious and provided the needed caffeine boost. Don't get me wrong, I've been here several times and purchased other baked items, I guess I didn't pick the best? The French breads are quality, fresh, and have nice crusts. I need to try the other scones and coffee drinks. Save me a scone! read more

Fantastic. There are few places I find that when I am in the area, that I would go out of my way and detour to stop by when in the area. I love bakeries, REAL bakeries that make all items on site fresh from the oven. IE, whenever I am in Petaluma or Pt. Reyes, CA, I make it a point to go to Bovine Bakery, no matter what! On a recent stay in Murphy's, we discovered Aria Bakery on Main Street. Had a great Americano and cranberry/pumpkin nut muffin for breakfast (the hotel continental breakfast was stocked with Costco baked goods and weak coffee). There was fresh (hot) mini sourdough loaves and other breads and a great selection of cookies, pastries, muffins, croissants (chocolate, almond, ham and cheese), cream puffs, tarts, ahhhhh the list goes on! I was so impressed with the freshness and quality of the goods, we came back for lunch and had a bacon and turkey paninni on fresh focaccia bread and cookies! I bought a loaf of fresh french bread and a cinnamon bread loaf to go. When we got back home from our trip we had that french loaf for dinner with some pasta. So amazing, great flavor, crusty, full, the best french loaf I have ever had, and we are privy to numerous fancy local "Artisan" bread providers in the Bay Area. The next day I made French Toast with thick slices of the cinnamon bread loaf. The BEST french toast I have ever had! I only wish I would have bought more muffins and pastries to bring home. The bakery is small with only one large table that seats about 7 or 8 people if you want to sit and eat. The locals also hit this place non-stop throughout the day, so they are pretty busy, but not bad. A gem. If I am anywhere within a few miles of Murphy's I am stopping and loading up!!! read more

Please don't think of Aria as simply a coffee shop to get a bear claw and a cup of joe - and frankly their coffee is not that good because they serve it scorching hot - Aria is a bakery and perhaps the best in the gold country. Wait, did I say bakery? Let's amend that to French bakery with crusty loaves, sweet or savoury filled pastries great little cakes and all the necessities of life to make you forget the hot and dusty hills. But wait they are even more then that. I recently attended a party for 50 guests that they catered, wonderful finger foods of the oriental persuasion. The locals know and love Aria and if you're staying up in Murphys do yourself a favor - forget about the hotel breakfast and head to Aria on Main street. And Aria if you're reading this, upgrade the coffee service. read more

Had a really excellent mocha here--very chocolate without being too sweet. Service was pleasant and forgiving when my son ordered a plain Pellegrino by mistake (thinking he was ordering a limonata)--they gave us the limonata even after opening the regular, which is how I ended up buying cookies (guilt). The ginger molasses cookie we had was perfectly chewy and delicious, except for too much sugar sprinkles (huge crystals) on top. Our chocolate chip cookie was over-baked. The ideal chocolate chip cookie is crisp on the edges and tender-chewy in the center. The edges should be lightly browned, the center just golden. Ours was too hard and dry and too dark all over indicating over-baking. Only a minute or 2 too long can kill a cookie. Once you've baked a couple of batches, though, and if you use a cookie scoop (as a professional bakery should), you should know the exact time it takes in your oven for any given recipe. read more

This is such a cute bakery!! When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon, the line was out the door! Their bakery goods looked so yummy and fresh. We ordered a delicious tart that was creamy, chocolaty and perfect. It was worth the 45 minute drive! The only constructive criticism I would give is that the older employee with dark hair seemed stressed out, impatient and unnecessarily rude to the customers in front of us. She was also short with us, unfortunately. We were super bummed about the customer service. read more

This bakery is amazing! Some friends and I came for the weekend to Murphys and we came to Aria every morning for our breakfast pasty and coffee. The pastries are to die for! Then the coffee...it really doesn't get any better. They brew every single cup individually with some locally roasted coffee beans. Before we left we also ordered fresh french rolls to take home for later and these were absolutely the best! I wish there was a place this good in Sacramento. Ordered lunch today with my coworkers. We love the salads and the workers, plus the dressing is AMAZING. The reason for not a 5 star is we are noticing our salads are just getting smaller and smaller the more where ordering. We have been getting lunch from there about every other week. It just seems for the price of a salad being 12 bucks there would be a good amount of lettuce atleast. Its hard to support local business when its just getting so expensive and not alot of food. Aria is a great find in Murphys! During our last visit after a day of fishing, sightseeing we came across Aria. The desserts and pastries are very delicious including the croissants, muffins and large cookies. We have been to a number of nice bakeries in the Bay Area and Europe and Arias can standup to any of the other great bakeries. You will not be disappointed.
