Been going to this place for like 10 years, they have really grown! The specialty cakes are awesome, as are the pastries. The macaroons are on my favorite. The empanadas are delicious but they have doubled in price. I definitely understand the price jack, just a bit expensive for my taste, for an empenada and nothing else. Also, if they're not fresh hot, vs reheated hot, they can be hard due to the dough they use. I'm not a fan of the sandwiches, way too much mayonnaise on everything, but they sell a lot of them. I go for the coffee, always the best latte. Same price as starbucks but way tastier and stronger. New staff is definitely friendlier. read more

GARBAGE. I paid hundreds of dollars for cakes for my job and they look completely TERRIBLE. I AM BEYOND MORTIFIED. Then, when I voiced my concern, the lady pretty much told me it was my fault. I ordered cakes and told them to "make them pretty". Gave them a sticker of our decor to copy. This is what I received. The cakes in their display look immaculate, this doesn't even belong in their store. The logo is crooked. The calligraphy is uneven. Kroger does better. If you plan to order, bring EXACTLY what you want done and don't trust their artists. I cannot comment on the taste, as I haven't tried it yet. But the presentation is horrible at best. read more

I had to give this place a try, because my husband works nearby and has raved about it ever since he first tried it! Parking lot is spacious & this bakery is located right in the Irving Towne Center shopping strip, so it's hard to miss. Their sign outside stands out as they have a nice bright yellow sun to help the white font draw your attention. The outside is very unassuming. The windows are completely tinted, so you can't really see indoors. As soon as you open the door, you feel like you're walking into a portal & a small town bakery in the streets of Argentina is on the other side. The interior lighting is a little dark, so it sets the mood right away as a nice cafe vibe. They are playing Spanish music quietly, so the background atmosphere is very nice. The first display you see when you walk in is their beautiful cakes, then their sweet pastries, then their sandwiches, and then right next to the corner register, you reach their empanadas! They have a nice big electronic coffee menu right above the register. Great visibility. Staff was so friendly & they were very patient with me since it was my first time here. I had no idea where to start. I got their L iced chai latte, a few sweets, and 3 empanadas. After I paid, I got in the car with my kids and we went to town on the goodies. ...let me just put it this way; I got BOTH KIDS BACK OUT OF THEIR CAR SEATS AND WENT BACK INSIDE TO ORDER MORE. We were visiting the restaurant next door and thought I would pop in for a peak. Geez, what a find! I had no idea that Argentineans were baker masters. You should see this showcase of the most beautifully prepared cakes and candies. The cakes are pieces of art and look way too pretty to eat. I didn't try a slice but next time I'm in the neighborhood you can bet I will! Instead, hubs picked out some yummy cookies and I chose a delicious cake-like petit four. However, I didn't understand what the card said so not sure exactly what it was. The inside was dark wood with leather covered seating - very inviting and warm. The empanadas here are delicious, flaky, well seasoned, and when they say spicy, they mean it! The desserts are tasty too, if a bit too sweet, but I think that's the way they're meant to be. So if you like your sweets sweet, the textures are all on point, at least. Flaky stuff is flaky, cake is moist, etc. Service is friendly and fast. The coffee is fine, not amazing, but the bitterness is great to balance out the sweetness of the desserts. The wifi wasn't working, but there are outlets and plenty of seating, so it'd be a decent place to work if the wifi was working! They play moderately loud music inside, but it's quiet enough to have conversations or do work. I wish we had one of these closer to home! read more

I grew up in Houston and remember visiting Marini's Empanada House located on Westheimer, in the Montrose area. That was a hip, trendy section of Westheimer, back in the 1970s/80s). Unfortunately, the restaurant burned down in 1985. I never had another empanada after that, until... Yesterday, I had dinner at a friend's home. One of the items served was empanadas from Argentina Bakery. The food had cooled to room temperature, but was still delicious. The crust was amazingly flaky and the filling was quite tasty. I liked it so much, that I visited the bakery this morning. When I walked in, the crowd was very diverse, further illustrating the bakery's appeal. It has two nice dining areas, including a 3 table bistro area outside. I ordered a dozen empanadas of various types. My plan was to take them home, but they smelled so good, I decided to have a couple before leaving. Although a beautiful Texas Spring day, families occupied all the outside tables, so I dined inside. Every empanada I sampled (beef/egg/jalapeño, ham & cheese and chicken & cheese) were great. Two were a satisfying meal for me, but once I got home I ate a third one. Their dessert and cake displays looked amazing, so the next time I stop by, I'll order dessert to go with my empanada(s). It's a great place to go with your friends and talk quietly. The coffee is top notch and the sweets are good, however they are very sweet.... I personally prefer the European level of sweetness. The rolled cake I had was practically drenched in syrup. The strawberry cheesecake is good, however the strawberries could stand to be marinated longer. Super friendly staff! We purchased several things to try and all were delicious! The macaroons were absolutely delicious! Our Children loved the churros! Eclairs to die for! Alfajores super tasty! Tarts beautifully done and so yummy! On the savory front we taste tested various empanadas: Spinach, brisket, ham & cheese, and beef w/ jalapeño. Each were delicious in their own right. I don't even know where to start with this review from the poor customer service, management, or quality of their tiered cake. If you are thinking of buying a tiered cake from here for any event, DON'T. I paid almost a $100 for a small 2-tier cake just for the top tier to fall into the bottom tier before I made it down the street. The platform for the top tier was not secured to the cake or the poles that go through the bottom tier. (see picture). I returned to bakery to find resolution for my falling cake and got NOTHING. The lady called management, management said "there's NOTHING we can do" keep in mind I picked up the cake just a couple of hours earlier and didn't even drive up to 5 miles before the cake started to slide off the platform and fall into the bottom tier. I left this bakery in tears, with a screaming baby with NO cake for an event I had that day. I was heartbroken, I put my trust in this bakery and they left me high and dry, no cake, and NO refund. After I left and drove away, I get a call from the bakery, the lady said if I BUY another cake she will give me a partial refund for the previous cake, which was never eaten. Did I have a choice? NOPE, I was desperate, they knew that and took advantage of me. I returned to buy a much smaller cake (the only option I had) and got a few bucks back. Lesson learned, not all business is good business. Just because they have an established storefront doesn't mean they know what they are doing. I've been to this bakery a few times before, but will NEVER go back. I hope my experience helps them improve for the next customer because no one deserves such treatment. read more
