I loved the whole vibe and feel the store had. The play area was just about the right size--not too big, not too small. It felt like the area could comfortably seat 8, maybe 10 Commander pods of 4 players. It felt cozy, like I was in my teens again playing some TCGs at a friend's house. The player base also seemed pretty nice from the people I got to interact with. I didn't really get to change up pods much, but that's more on me than a reflection of the store or its player base due to deck tweaking after a few good rounds. They did seem like they had a healthy little cEDH playgroup there too. Also, at one point, they handed out a free promo card, and I got a Retro Frame Syr Konrad, which was neat! And man, one thing I never even thought about judging a card shop on was how clean their bathrooms were... which, spoilers!!!! Were immaculate. I've never been in a storefront, let alone a card shop, with such a clean bathroom. Most card shop bathrooms look like they belong in a gymnasium. All in all, I'd definitely give this place a 10/10. If you're in the Spring, TX area and need a home TCG store for Tuesday Night Magic (EDH), I couldn't recommend this place more!

Walking in I was greeted by the owner, I'm guessing. (I'm terrible with names) I let him know how clueless to what my N/N were into. He took his time and explained everything to me, and what each age group was into, and suggested items that looked familiar. What made the experience great was no up sell attempts, to get me to buy a bunch of things I didn't know, but he advised me on what names and types of things to look for when I visit the N/N's so I could get the right gifts. Overall very knowledgeable staff, great selection of different games and gift ideas. And very personable. Would definitely stop by this shop for holiday gift ideas! Customers: The customers and gamers that shop at Atomic Hobby Shop are really great. A lot of subject matter experts, if you will, that can help answer a lot of questions about the different games, strategies, painting/hobby tips. Employees: Nice, polite and come greet you but none of that pushy sales man. They are well informed about their product. Product: This store is definitely a destination store for Games Workshop, Magic the Gathering, Vallejo Paints and more. Even better these guys can order games in that they don't normally carry. They assured me over the phone TWICE that they did buy bulk (spoke with AJ, Alecia *sp?, and Matthew) which is why I decided to drive all the way to Cypress from Pearland to drop my collection with them. Now it took about a month to get that collection evaluated because it was a huge collection of boxes and binders honestly took up the entire back of my car. Part of the reason it took so long was I think the person said they were sick and that can't be helped I understand. All that time doesn't really mattered what matters is at the end they just offered to buy like the most valuable cards at a lowball offer for what they wanted. (Which I could have literally taken to any shop and sold) Proceeding to tell me they were not interested in the bulk collection WHICH IS THE ONLY REASON I MADE THE TRIP. . I already knew and not driven what round trip twice was almost 4 hours for me. Also when I got there they had taken everything out of the damn sleeves and just had it in a mess in the office and I had to reassemble it all in the lobby which really frustrated me. That is what really bothered me. I packed all my stuff up and took it to another shop that actually did buy bulk and got a much more reasonable offer. They may be a good shop to hang out at and nice people I have no reason to believe otherwise in that regard it seemed like a nice place when I went both times. TL;DR The shop bs'd me about buying bulk so I drove all the way out to their shop and wasted about 4 hours and it took a month for nothing. But a lowball offer on the rarest cards. Would recommend not trying to sell bulk to these folks cause they wasted my time and are likely wasting yours.

I went to Cy-Tex gaming for the first time really excited looking for Pokemon and yugioh cards after someone recommended the store to me. I walked in and bought four cards and continued to look around the store with my purchased cards. The employee expressed to me that service would be slow because he was the only one working today. While looking around, the employee went to the other half of the store while I continued to browse. From the back, another older employee came out and hovered around my general area near the front counter. After I finished looking, I moved over to the other half of the store with the cards I had purchased. I put them in my pocket and moved on to join the first employee. When I went to the other half of the store to browse for pokemon cards, the older second employee followed me. I didn't think much of it until he followed me around to every part of the store. I noticed that his eyes were glued on to me everywhere I went. It eventually became clear to me that I was being followed. I continued to browse the store and different aisles as he continued to follow me with his eyes and moved to where he could see me. Eventually, after I finished looking I returned to the front half of the store and waited to purchase a Yugioh EBT box. While I was waiting in line I heard the second older employee tell the first that I had put cards in my pocket. At this point, I got my digital receipt ready to show. Sure enough, when it was my turn to check out he told me that his boss saw me put cards into my pockets and needed to see them to verify that I had purchased my cards. I showed him the four cards I had purchased, and he shouted out to his boss that he could confirm that I purchased all four cards. To conclude, after 15-20 minutes of following me around both halves of the store and through some aisles, rather than ask me if I had purchased the cards he just assumed I was stealing them and had the first employee ask me to show the cards in my pockets to verify that I purchased them and had not stolen them. After verifying that I only had the cards that I bought when I first went up to the register the second older employee laughed it off and tried to awkwardly play it off. Like I said, I know this isn't everyone's experience, just mine. I went into the store so excited for all the cards, pokemon, and yugioh. I never thought that I would be treated to feel as if I was stealing or was a criminal. Despite all this, it is a great store filled with a variety of items and things. I do plan on returning and hope for a different experience.

Everything was well organized and the turnout was pretty good. There were two groups, one for juniors and one for (young) adults, for fairness. Another thing I liked was that everyone got 3 extra packs instead of awarding it based on wins, given we're playing with pre-con decks + 4 packs that are all random. The staff are super friendly and welcoming, shout-out to Bryan (the general manager?) and the official judge for the event. Plus I had a great conversation with him and Michael(?) about MTG; they're definitely very passionate about board & card games. They have anti-scalping policies in place for Pokemon. As for the space itself, decent amount of parking (more in the back). They're very popular for Warhammer, so there's a ton of product for those who play, and several tables set-up with many people playing all afternoon next to us (the 'playing hall' is pretty large!). They also have an aisle with board games for sale, and a counter with TCG products. Restrooms are spacious and clean. All in all, The Forge is pretty much all you can ask for in a LGS; they're also independently owned! I wish I live closer, but I'll definitely be here again soon!
