This was everything I wanted for my bbq meal. I got the Archie Dog with pulled pork piled on top and it was perfectly seasoned. The BBQ sauce which we were told was house made was complex, smooth and complimentary to everything including the crispy fries. I also got the house made potato salad which could've been from my own kitchen meaning it was thoughtfully seasoned and fresh. You won't be sorry if you eat here, you'll just have a big empty wallet because it is expensive. The staff was super friendly and helpful as well. I will come back! read more

On our first night in the Deep Creek Lake area for the 4th of July weekend, my boyfriend and I went exploring. We came across Archie's BBQ and being pretty big BBQ lovers, we were intrigued by this joint in the middle of an area that has no Verizon service. Were we skeptical? Perhaps, but definitely curious. As soon as we walked in, a server handed us menus. We decided to share the sampler (brisket, pork, ribs, cornbread, and a side). Archie himself was sitting behind the counter and took our orders with a friendly demeanor. The servers bring the food to you once it's ready. We stocked up on iced teas, sauces, and utensils before taking a seat on one of the beautifully-made wooden picnic tables. The entire restaurant is designed like a log cabin and it's actually very cozy and clean inside. The food itself was good, with the pork being my favorite of the meats. My boyfriend thought their mac and cheese was a little too salty; I thought it was fine. I didn't care too much for their potato salad; he thought it was good. Overall, good filling BBQ. We chatted with Archie for a few minutes too and he was nothing but welcoming and amicable. If you're in this area and want a change from the usual fast food, try Archie's BBQ. Archie's was the last stop in Deep Creek before heading home...and it did not disappoint! Order at the counter, and enjoy your last few minutes of hunger before heaping mound of grilled mammal slathered in deliciousness is served at your table. Offerings are fairly standard- sandwiches, wraps, wings, half-chickens, ribs, and piles of pork, brisket, etc. served in various sampler combinations. The two older boys ordered boneless chicken wings (much more than they could eat),I split a rib/brisket/pork sampler with boy#3 (much much more than we could eat), and my wife sensibly ordered a pork wrap. Cornbread, slaw, potato salad are the kinds of sides you are going to be offered. Food was just awesome. BBQ ribs were fall-off-the-bone perfect, brisket and bbq pork were spot-on as well. Kids liked the buffalo chicken wings; wife liked her wrap. Everyone was happy, happy, happy...to quote Phil, who would love this place! Décor is what you'd expect in a BBQ joint...rustic, nice picnic tables, etc. Clean. Counter service was really friendly. Check, check, check. The thing that made us laugh most was the Mountain Man challenge. I can't remember all the details, but for $50, if you can consume a half chicken, full plate of ribs, 4 corn breads, a 16 oz. drink, one sandwich, a hot and a cold side, and possibly a few other items- in under a hour, with no bathroom break- you eat free. Something like 297 have tried it; 12 have succeeded. You lose, you pay. The hall of fame- and gastric shame- is posted in the vestibule as you enter. Aah, America. Land of BBQ and plenty. We really enjoyed this last stop, and it kept the family satiated...in gastric paralization...for the duration of the ride back to Lancaster. Deep Creek Lake area lacks a good selection of restaurants, unless you like pizza, then there are about three choices. We came here based on YELP reviews. Service was quick. Order at the counter, and they didn't even have a "tip" line on the charge slip. Food was served up in a few minutes. I had the beef brisket, about 2 out of 5*. A good portion, but it was rather dry (picture a bit out of focus) and as others point out, no real "bark" and smoke ring. Wife had the half rack and she was well pleased with it. I sampled it and it came in about 4* in my view. Offered one way, having a rub and sweet BBQ sauce. Came upon this place on our drive in to Deep Creek and wanted to try it out. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with Cole slaw and the baked beans. The pulled pork was very average and not that good. It didn't taste fresh or authentic at all. The baked beans were ok but after eating the whole side it was unsatisfying. Really nice design of this place. I love the imitation log chairs and tables. They have a decent menu and we choose a meal to split which turned out being enough to have leftovers. we ordered the sampler platter for $25 and it came with 4 ribs, pulled pork, brisket, cornbread and a side. We got the baked beans as well as the mac n cheese. i loved the cornbread most. It was soooo sweet and moist its some of the best I've ever had. The pulled pork was my favorite and the ribs were my least favorite. The BBQ sauce is made in house but it didn't leave much of a after taste in your mouth. I would have preferred a thicker hickory style BBQ sauce. This one had little sweetness and too vinegary. The beans were good but we had to add spicy bbq to make them a lot tastier. the mack n cheese was ok too nothing special. I would give 5 stars for the corn bread. 4 for the pulled pork and brisket and 3 for the ribs. The sauce is a 2 though, sorry to say. The taste leaves your mouth as soon as it enters it.. The staff was very friendly though and i like the fact they have one of those food challenges called the mountain man. a full slab of ribs, half a roasted chicken, 4 pieces of cornbread, pulled pork sandwich, a hot side, a cold side and a 16oz drink. The staff were friendly and offered useful information on the food since it was our first time here. I ordered the half rack of ribs and it came with corn bread. I have to say the ribs were just decent and the corn bread was dry and plain. The service was quick - so quick I feel like the food wasn't fresh. Granted we were the only people there since it was Friday at 3pm but my ribs weren't hot enough. This is a pretty big restaurant and it was very clean. The rest of the party ordered brisket sandwiches with Cole slaw and baked beans. I like the Cole slaw but it was missing some pepper. I wouldn't come back here, I'm from DC and there are much better BBQ places out here. The next time we go to deep creek we will be visiting other places! read more

Archie's barbeque is a family-owned and operated business. Guests order at the counter and can then choose to sit inside or outside. Food is then brought out to the table. The menu offers many options - from BBQ plates, to sandwiches, to salads, to a meat combo plate ... the options are endless. Their portions are ample and large enough for sharing. The restaurant is kid-friendly, and you can even bring along your dog if you'd like to eat outside (they have picnic tables and umbrellas). We loved the mac and cheese and the sweet tea! If you're feeling adventurous, try the Mountain Man Challenge. You can take the challenge for $50.00, and if you consume corn bread, a half chicken, multiple sides, a plate of ribs, etc. in under an hour you get your $50.00 back and you get your photo on their wall. Archies was amazing. Their pulled pork was among the best we've ever had. It was melt in your mouth and perfectly sauced so you could still taste the meat. The cornbread was on par with my husband's grandma's and that's very high praise indeed. I'm taking one star off because the brisket wasn't as stellar as the other things we got but that could be because it was a few minutes until we got it home to eat it and it was a little tough by that time. We are here off and on always looking for places to try this was our second time at Archie's so we got it last night and got for the first time ever their full rack of ribs and these not yet on the menu, at least online onion bits. They are pretty good probably better at the restaurant they don't travel well. They are amazing though for me it's all about the batter and it was amazing not to thick but had a slight tempura texture which I love. We crushed it. You have to ask when you call if they have it. I wasn't impressed at all. Went here on a whim because some of my traveling companions were hungry. They both ordered wings, and thought they were decent, but nothing to be wowed about. Archie's definition of the word "jumbo" is definitely skewed. These were in no way, shape or form jumbo wings. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap, which I took two or three bites of before discarding. While the chicken was certainly orange in color, it was flavorless, dry and akin to canned shredded chicken. You could taste neither the buffalo sauce nor the ranch sauce, and their 'seasoned' tortilla wrap was plain and uninspiring. Price was over the top too. My wrap and a small (one size) drink was over $13. Definitely overpriced. The only thing this place really had going for it was friendly staff and clean dining area with an outdoor option. I had one of the tastiest pulled pork sandwiches in recent memory, from this shop (I'm from VA so that may say something.) Moist and smokey with sweet sauce to top it off. They've got their pandemic stuff down right and are kind if you're new and confused, like me. Nice folks. You can eat at their outdoor tables or take to go. So, really looking forward to this because of the select five star reviews that were glowing. Unfortunately, it seems that the more honest reviews were the lower ones. We ordered the ribs, the brisket, the pulled pork, wings, and the handful of sides include Mac and cheese, green beans, and cheese fries. Where to begin? The brisket was thinly sliced but super dry. Not sure if it was because it was dry or cut thinly, but there was very little smoke to the meat. This went for the ribs as well. The pulled pork had a good sauce to it, but it cancelled out any meat taste. The smokiest meat were probably the chicken wings! Would definitely go back for wings. But sadly the BBQ was disappointing. Could've mistaken it for having been baked. The mac and cheese was good. The green beans were boiled beyond recognition with no taste, not even salt. Cheese fries were okay but how do you mess up cheese fries? The sauces were nothing to write home about. The spicy BBQ sauce tasted like Robitussin. Overall, the food was subpar. Not sure how people are hating on Archie's delicious meat (mm hmm)! Would recommend this spot for days you just don't feel like cooking at the lake house. We came here as a group of 7 and went to town on Archie's Family Pack, which includes 5 lbs of smoked meat (got 2 x brisket, chopped brisket, pulled pork, chicken) along with cole slaw, mac & cheese, and baked beans. Everything was good but I say skip the chopped brisket. Corn bread is moist and flavorful, definitely comparable to my love for Mission BBQ's corn bread! There is ample seating for large and small groups alike, with the option to sit outside. Big parking lot and a short drive away from Wisp. Consider going on the mountain roller coaster aka toboggan to help you eject some of that meat you just binged... then come back to do the Mountain Man Challenge afterwards! read more

We stopped in here on a quick trip to the lake and the consensus after leaving was that it was 'ok'. You get a lot of food for the price, which was a positive. I got a meat platter with macaroni and cheese, as did my company. The meat itself was cooked fine, but it what somewhat flavorless and unfortunately, I have a lot to compare it to. The macaroni and cheese was just as underwhelming; not bad, but nothing to write home about at all. Bland, I suppose. The inside was nice and clean, pleasant decor and super friendly staff. Here from Baltimore skiing at Wisp. We went to Archie's because of the good reviews and because we did not want to eat fried food (Green Turtle) or pizza. We also wanted to eat local. Protein will always win out. We ordered the sampler and we experienced great customer service, friendly and helpful staff. It was awesome. Our food came out fast and warm. Great amount and great price! My son and I shared it. My son liked the ribs and the pulled pork. I didn't have much, but what I did have was very good. I had it with bread, which they gave me for free. We both thoroughly enjoyed the brisket; shaved and moist and tasty. I will have that on hot bread next time. I didn't have the sauce because I like my bbq dry, but my son, who works at Mission, thought the sauce was a tad too sweet, but good. The mac-n-cheese was not very good; just average, beans were delicious and the cornbread was just AMAZING. I walked out with extra!
