First, ribs were not cooked, fatty, gelatinous, and gross. Understand it was Labor Day weekend, but this is way below subpar. The bathroom was not clean, and that tells you about the kitchen. Let's start with the reminder that there are different strokes for different folks, okay. Those of you who read my reviews know that I'm kinda of a smokehouse-pitmaster nerd. I like to compare others' work to my own and see if I can improve on it. That said, Sweitzer's has some upsides and some downsides. The first thing I noticed when I pulled into the parking lot was several large containers of lighter fluid next to the smoker. Lighter fluid & smokers are a big fat nono. This is not up for debate. We ordered 3 dishes: brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. Apparently, the winning dish is the chicken but they were out and the wait was 40 minutes. Alas...next time, I guess. Interestingly, the most difficult of those three dishes is the brisket but it turned out to be the best of the bunch. It was tender and flavorful with a smooth smoky aftertaste. The easiest of the bunch is, of course, the pulled pork. Unfortunately, it was a little too "pulled" (read: shredded) and their standard BBQ sauce was already mixed in (more on that later). I don't know what the meat tasted like...sorry. Finally, the ribs. If you like "fall off the bone" ribs then this place will make you happy. The Mrs. ordered it with BBQ sauce and so again we have no idea what they tasted like. Their texture was fine. Remembering the opening statement about different strokes, I will say that the BBQ sauce was totally and completely overwhelming. It was too sweet and had way too much ketchup in it. Buuuuuuut, everyone there was ordering their food with it (some asked for extra sauce). My advice to you is to order the sauce on the side and see if you like it because if you let them add it there's no coming back from it. I don't think you can get the pulled pork without the sauce already added which is a bummer since I'd like to see what theirs tastes like. Again, make sure to try the chicken and let us know how not is. read more

If you are looking for catering, look elsewhere. It's a shame, because their food is good. Called to try to place our catering order - the young lady on the phone placed me on hold, and then came back to scream into the phone that they were too busy and that they would call us back. Never called back. We were given Steven the owners eventually to call to place the catering order. Called several times and left messages, no calls back. Finally - we went there last weekend to buy lunch, same horrible attitude from the girl that works there, finally got the owner who came to take our order. We said that we were having 35 people and that we needed enough pulled pork and mac and cheese for the guests. They promised us buns and extra bbq sauce. After prepaying $225 (plus tip!) the day came for pick up. The amount of food was barely enough for 15. And they didn't want to give buns or sauce upon pickup. I hear the owners are opening a new location, and I wish them well. However, they will never have my business again. I urge everyone to go if you want a decent (but pricey) lunch. However, they need some serious training for their staff and better followup for party orders. Garrett County is very small, and word travels fast with us locals. read more

Went here to grab lunch while on vacation and we completely get what all the hype was about! We arrived and the guys were outside working the grills, so we asked them what was best to get. Hands down the chicken! It had a nice smokiness and was super flavorful and moist. It was great dipped in the bbq sauce. We also ordered the pulled pork which was quite good, but not as good as the chicken. The sides we had were all pretty standard, but still tasty. We actually ended up going back multiple times while on vacation. Definitely worth a stop. read more

All I can say is WOW! Wow was this good food! Sweitzer's catered The dinner at the WGW last night and gave each person a sampler plate. So we got to try a pulled pork slider, chicken, ribs, baked beans and coleslaw. Everything was mouth watering good! I'm so excited to find a place that makes pulled pork the way I like it with the sauce mixed in. The ribs were falling off the bone and tender with the best sauce! The chicken was tender & flavorful! Then onto the baked beans and slaw, loved them both! I'm embarrassed to say that this is the 1st time I've tried their food, there is always a line when I go by so I don't stop! I will be going quite often now! Lastly, let me praise the staff for the amazing service! I was setting up for the dinner and running behind and they jumped in and helped me pull it all together! Had a great lunch on 7/5/24. We had the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches with baked beans and fries. Brisket was a little fatty for me, but the taste was terrific. The pulled pork was straight up great. I appreciate that they did slather the meat in sauce, they put a side container in the go bag. I saw the pits smoking away in the parking lot and knew I found something good! Awesome BBQ, had the brisket sandwich and it was the best brisket I've ever had and I've tried a lot! I also smoke my own meats at home and this puts mine to shame. Wife had the grilled chicken and said it was delicious, nice char on the outside and juicy on the inside.
