First time visit on our trip to Deep Creek. We were welcomed right away by a girl who presented us with menus and told us how to do our ordering. We had a party of 6 and getting in and finding a table on a Thursday night was no problem at all at 6:30. I had the sampler platter which consisted of ribs, pulled pork, and brisket. I had to try them both to get a feel of what the offerings are... I highly recommend the ribs. I did see a bunch of people ordering the challenge and splitting it. We had traveled to the area and were headed home but realized we were starving and were not wanting to wait til we got home and cooked. So we stopped here on our way out of town. The menu isn't extensive, and I found it somewhat pricey, but it tasted amazing. We were greeted immediately by the cashier who told us how to order and answered our questions. She was very friendly and basically made the whole experience great. We both ordered the two hand sandwiches (~$8), one with pulled pork and one with brisket. They don't come with a side, so we ordered mac and cheese and baked beans (~$3 each). The food was prepared quickly and tasted great. Good to the bone! Went there last night after a day of swimming around in the lake. Got a full rack and a half pound brisket to share wirh my husband. Chose bakedbean and potato sald to go with the meat. Gooood eats. The ribs were juicy but not fatty. The BBQ sauce had the right blend of sweet and tangy. The baked bean is the best ever. It had sausage and onion in it. Almost licked the container. Potato salad was good too, but nothing spectacular. The corn bread was moist and buttery, it should be considered as cake. The pulled chicken sandwich was good. It had a very large portion of meat but I felt like it lacked the flavors it needed to rate 5 stars. I should say I am from Texas and I take BBQ seriously. This review is during Covid so we were outside and I didn't have an option to get pickles and onions which would have helped. Lastly my kids and wife all loved their meals and they are extremely picky. They had the Pork Sliders (corn bread and pork), beef hotdog with pulled pork, half a rack of ribs, and the cheese fries. So in the end, as a family of four it is difficult to get the kids to agree on anything, but in this case everyone left full and happy. It hit the spot! We went there for a family meal, spent over $240 Horrible customer service. First laughed when we asked for 12 plates and said there is a save a lot down the road. We've been going to Archie's whenever we're in the DCL area since not long after they opened. Archie's is an excellent break from the DCL norm... Pizza. Today we stopped by on our way out of town and, as usual, were not disappointed. The restaurant is always clean and has that log cabin feel inside that is common in DCL. We ordered a bunch of food for the family and we were all kinda disappointed. The brisket was very thinly sliced with no smoke flavor and no BBQ bark, 1 out of 5. The ribs were tender, but not well prepared, the membrane was still on the underside of the ribs and over all underseasoned with little smoke, 1 out of 5. The pulled pork was good and the only meat that was finished, 3.5 out of 5. The best sides were the baked beans and coleslaw. The cornbread was moist. The smoked mac and cheese had no smoky flavor and was similar to frozen mac and cheese. The green beans were clearly canned, mushy, and not seasoned. We were greeted, seated then given menus. Then, we found out that we would have to stand in a long line to place our order at the counter. We waited for 5-10 minutes but, ultimately, decided to try another restaurant because of the wait. I wasn't impressed with the menu at Archie's. Everything is a la carte. You pay for your sandwich or "plate" serving of meat. It's not cheap at all. No side dishes are included. Sides are an extra $3.50 each, presently, and I only saw four choices. I am from the South and as far as I am concerned this place is pretty good. Not only is the food good, the portions are ample, but the price is right as well. Not to mention they have good sweet tea. I would highly recommend getting the baked beans and slaw as your sides. The baked beans are infused with pork in them and the cole slaw is sweet and excellent. I ate here on 6.1.12. As I pulled into the parking lot, I was overwhelmed with the delicious smokey smell. I walked into the restaurant, and it was super clean, large and had great decor. I ordered the two-handed pulled pork sandwich. It was DELICIOUS and very tender. The baked beans and coleslaw (both homemade) complemented the sandwich very well. My girlfriend got the same sandwich and the mac 'n cheese. She never clears her plate, but she did this time. I was more than full after I left. You get a good amount of food for your money. To be honest, we were somewhat apprehensive due to some of the more negative reviews we read on the way there, however, the idea of bbq sounded too tempting to resist. I am very glad we gave this place a chance. The staff is uber friendly and all too happy to explain how things work. The space seemed open and very clean with casual, "lodgy" decor. Keep in mind that this is a quick-serve restaurant, but there is a server who will run your food to you when it comes up at the counter. All-in-all, we were pretty impressed. Pulled pork was sweet and not overly saucy which is how I like it. The ribs and brisket was extremely moist and tender. Minus one star because the food wasn't warm enough to my liking and the mac and cheese needed a bit more seasoning but other than that, we certainly did not regret this impromptu stop. read more

Very Tasty but really expensive for what you get. There are sandwiches that are available at the $10,00 price range but everything else is pricy. I think their selection of beers are limited. I rather spend just about the same amount and get ribs from a nicer restaurant of which there are several in the area. The interior of the place is clean but uncomfortable. We recently completed our dining research at Archies BBQ located on Rt 219 in McHenry MD. I think that BBQ much like pizza are food categories that can be REALLY subjective. Having had a chance to eat many menu items the following review is as objective as I can be, based on similar establishments found near Deep Creek Lake. Lets face it, Deep Creek Lake or Garrett County are not known for BBQ, yet. When I think of 'pit meat' I reminisce about guys cooking chunks of meat over a trash barrel in obscure Baltimore locations. When you enter Archies the ambiance is not quite the same. This place was spotless, not what I like in meat places, but if I can't be in an alley this is the standard for what a restaurant should be. We are dealing with dripping juices and sauces yet nothing was greasy, sticky or scary anywhere to be seen. Counter service is perfect in a place like this, one less thing to go wrong or give a bad impression before you get down to the business of meat. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about their process and product. Food in baskets, picnic tables, paper towels on the table. The way BBQ should be, but man this place is clean. Now for the grub... Impressive. I loved the brisket and wings. Thought the pork was great, ribs to. One of my partners wanted more sauce. In my opinion if you want to eat a sauce sandwich order it. I want to taste the pig. I have not tried all the side dishes but the baked beans were killer. I would like to think that they cook below the meat and absorb all the fatty good flavor. If not, they still hit the spot. Cornbread is cornbread is cornbread. Coleslaw may not be my favorite style but nothing was wilted or off color or smell so a winner. The only negative comment I heard was some thought it was pricey. I looked at the amount of meat on my sandwich, figured in labor of love to cook it and however much they paid someone to clean the place, I thought it was reasonable. Archie's is the best BBQ I have ever eaten in my life. I am not exaggerating whatsoever. I have eaten the ribs, (pink smoke ring...fall off of the bone) beef brisket (same pink smoke ring, cut thin and extremely tender), and pulled pork and chicken. All meats are prepared perfectly and are juicy and delicious. Also, the almosted mashed potato salad is my favorite and I am not a fan of potato salads. The corn bread is not course, but is light and cake like. I have not had anything at Archie's I have not enjoyed. The smell entering the restaurant is enticing and my Dad has mentioned Archie's as, "A religious experience!" In fact, my fiancé are having Archie's at our destination wedding. My wife and I felt compelled to make our first Yelp review on this establishment because the food was so awful. The gentlemen who appeared to be the owner sat behind the register and took orders. Questions about the menu received quick one word answers. We felt as though we were a nuisance to him. The ribs seemed boiled, watery, and tasteless (real ribs are not boiled). My wife got the pulled chicken wrap. The meat was watery and had the consistency of tuna fish. She only took a few bites. We had a large party. None of the 4 kids would eat the Mac and cheese, although my 5 year old liked the side salad. The boneless wings are not wing meat at all, but slices of chicken breast tossed is sauce. To say the least they got trashed also. Everyone liked the sweet cornbread. We actually bought more to go because we were all still hungry. I have never had barbecue, ribs or brisket and been so underwhelmed. I spent almost thirty dollars for two meals that left us feeling sick and hosed. The barbecue that was basically soup because there was so much ketchup in it. The ribs had a manure flavor to them. The brisket was nothing but cheap deli meat, like dry roast beef. The meat tasted spoiled. The sign reads "award winning" but there is no award in the restaurant. read more
