Spring skiing this year in Vail was so warm that our ski time was limited to just the morning so après ski started much earlier than usual. I decided to make a long past due visit to Archetype to check out their distilled spirits. In addition to their vodka and gin, they make a long list of small batch distilled spirits of various flavors. When you walk in there are a few high top tables and a long bar. My recommendation is to sit at the bar and chat with the bartenders. They are knowledgeable and will craft a cocktail based on what your favorite flavor profile is. As my friend C says, "if it's muddled N will drink it!" She's not wrong. She speaks the truth. I told the bartender that a cocktail with either the blackberry or strawberry spirits would be a great start. He mixed strawberry with their mint spirit, added soda, and ice in a tall glass. It was really refreshing. Because they have so many different flavored spirits they can craft almost anything. If you like a dirty martini, they have blue cheese and olive flavored spirits. I tasted the blue cheese spirit separately and it was hmmm...interesting by itself but mixed with the olive spirit and "ta-da!" - you've got your dirty martini. Their vodka and wine are made from wine grapes. I didn't get a chance to try either the vodka or gin this time but will definitely be back on my next ski trip to Vail. If you haven't had the chance to check out Archetype Distillery -- do it. As somebody from the distilling industry, I always try to visit a distillery while I'm on vacation.  After seeing Archetype's vodka & gin picking up awards at major tasting competitions, I knew they'd be the perfect stop. We visited their Vail tasting room for a cocktail class -- an activity I highly recommend.  Not only was the class a lot of fun, but it was also a great value.  It included a sampling flight, three cocktails & an hour of entertainment.  Michael is clearly passionate about the spirits he makes & the drinks they craft.  Whether you're a foodie or somebody who just loves a great cocktail, you'll enjoy the class. What I found particularly unique about Archetype's tasting room is their wide offering of house-made distillates/spirits.  They don't need a back bar full of brands that you see everywhere.  Instead, they're able to craft a custom cocktail based on the flavors you enjoy.  From familiar flavors like espresso or citrus to unique ones like blue cheese & truffles, you have the opportunity to find your own signature drink.  I tried several unique combinations & all were delicious!   In short -- from somebody who's been to a lot of distilleries -- make the time to check out Archetype.  The atmosphere was fantastic.  The drinks were delicious.  Their spirits win awards for a reason. So, while a friend of mine from Denver gave me a tour of Broadway, we chanced upon Archetype. We decided to pop in for a quick tasting and I'm so glad we did. One of the owners greeted us and immediately made us feel at home. We asked if he could make something akin to a vodka sprite (I know, basic) while we looked at the menu. When he returned with the best vodka sprite ever. At Archetype, explained the owner, they make their vodka from grapes. During the distillation process, they infuse their vodka with different flavors. For the vodka sprite, he used a lemon/lime infused vodka, a lil simple syrup, and some spritz. And when I say he explained this process, trust that he explained it throughly. We decided to have a tasting. We ordered the lavender, the earl grey, and the Serrano. Taken neat, each was incredibly smooth. Our host explained, that made with grapes this vodka has much less of a bite than traditional vodkas. Also, you might think the Serrano would have been hot hot, but it was not. Because they introduce the flavoring elements (fruits, peppers, what not) during the distillation process only the essence of the flavors remain in the vodka, so no sugars or whatever it is that makes biting into a pepper burn. While in Denver, I wanted to check out some distilleries and visited Archetype Distillery. I didn't really know what to expect but WOW this place is amazing! We just walked into their lounge/bar on a Friday night and sat at the bar. The bartenders (who were also the owners) make some seriously good drinks!! They have a ton of different spirits with different flavors - you can tell them what flavor profiles you like and they can whip up a custom cocktail for you. Really fun experience! The venue is also beautiful and modern. They also do private events, weddings, concerts, etc. The bartenders were super friendly, make really good recommendations and made our visit memorable. A group of friends and I went to Archetype Distillery for the distillery tour and tasting. This truly is a Denver hidden gem that does not need to be missed! The tour began, and ended, in the tasting room/bar. Michael, the owner, gave us a history of the building and a background on the business. I always love when you can hear and see the vision of the owner. It really helps you appreciate their proverbial blood, sweat, and tears that went into opening the doors to the public. It took about two years for the renovation of the building to its current state. From the atmosphere to the selection of spirits, Archetype Distillery is a great place to hang out. They even do private events. You get a couple of choices for your tasting, and both are smooth. After the tour, we also ordered the Kitty Galore and I had an Angel's Flight so I could try the beef jerky, habanero, and dill vodkas. Those with a keen eye will notice the ice cubes are actually top hats, which is a theme at Archetype Distillery. (If you want to know why, you'll have to take the tour!) Great distillery with many different distilled liquer flavors, including their own gin and vodka made from wine grapes! Distillations include many teas like earl grey, jasmine, rooibos, lapsing souchong, and also unique flavors like blue cheese, beef jerky, habanero, and cacao! Great contemporary industrial vibe. No TV's (at the time of this review), but that helps prevent distractions from what this place thrives to be. Wonderful and knowledgeable bartenders (oops, they're the owners!)!!! I love vodka and I love gin - what better place than to come to Archetype Distillery who specializes in both?! Did the $25 tour and tasting + signature cocktail and it was more than I even expected! The vodka and gin are made from grapes grown in Northern California, and the distilling process is extremely intricate and time consuming. BUT it produces one of the most flavorful vodka and gin I've ever had without needing any sort of mixer. The gin has a more botanical taste and aroma, and I absolutely love that even though my dad prefers a more juniper berry flavor. Safe to say he is a gin snob and loved this gin. The Smokey vodka and Smokey gin was so intriguing and had a real smoky flavor - almost like jerky and brisket (don't knock it till you try it). Had the full tour of the distillery which was so incredibly clean and spacious. Perfect event space if you ever needed to rent it out for a party or reception! Finished off with a signature cocktail - I had the gin & tonic and dad had the red rock. Ok but the homemade tonic is INSANELY good. Like, so incredible you all need to book a tour during the week or head down Fri-Sun to have a drink at the bar and lounge. The distillates aren't currently for sale since they are working on bottling and recipes, but if you get the chance to try the earl grey vodka, you will absolutely love it. I wish I could've taken home 10 bottles! All of their distillates are made with the actual ingredient it is infused with (ex: earl grey, habanero, dill, bleu cheese, strawberry, and so many more). Stumbled onto this local gem in the Denver area. They obviously weren't open for food / table service / events but they did have tours to reserve (pro-tip: you can find them on Groupon). My husband and I went in and had a personal tour by the owner himself. He was so energetic, funny, knowledgeable and clearly a hard worker. The attention to detail he put into this two story old school - modern combo is unmatched. After tasting the archetype and the arch rival (the vodka and gin respectively), we went around on the tour of the distillery. Then we came back for a cocktail which involved one of their MANY distillates: essentially flavored lower proof booze. From beef jerky to habanero to dill to strawberry and more - you can make a mean mixed cocktail here! I feel bad for the arbitrary enforcement of rules here (I.e. the "adult shop" next door was still open), but I do hope they can survive this! We bought a hard seltzer mason jar to-go to support. It was habanero-orange flavored and contained 4 drinks. Highly recommend! read more

Ryan gave us an amazing tour with information about the building, the distilling process, and showed us where they make their unique distillates (and more)! The owner, Michael, showed us how to make four different cocktails with a variety of ingredients and suited to our flavor profiles. We were able to buy premade cocktails using their premium distillates to take home with us! Both were incredibly personable and kind people and made the experience so fun! This is a truly unique distillery and I have only good things to say. Firstly, it is very obvious the owners are passionate about what they do and it was so nice to hear their story about how they came to be. The location itself has old brick from the original building but is completely renovated inside including a beautiful bubble wall and fancy lighting. Everyone one of their drinks is phenomenal. I would recommend the kitty galore but they have a drink for every palette. While you're sitting at the bar, make sure to take a peak at where the alcohol is being made! There is also an entire upstairs area for private events with another bar as well. read more

This may be one of my fave distelleries yet. The interior is a combination of a number of elements harmoniously blending together resulting in a very cool and unique set up. There is that sleek modern vibe, with a touch of chemistry lab feel all within the original historical infrastructure. I had about 8 flights of infused vodka, all delish and super smooth! Ranging from the spicy habanero and jalapeno to the sweet date, herby dill, and so many more. I decided to concoct my own creations by mixing some of these. Hella fun! They do have some neat cocktails oozing mysical smoke. Bill took great care of us and was a great conversationalist as he showed true passion in what he does. Archetype's tour and tasting was a perfect choice for me and a small group of friends. We booked a Monday night and it was only us so it felt like a private event. When we arrived we had a temperature check and sanitizer for hands. Then it was a tasting of Archetype vodka, gin, and smoked gin. During which time, we learned about the history of the building and how Archetype was started. We then got a tour of the distillery with an education on how the process works. We were able to explore the beautiful building and learn even more about how it was remodeled from a former movie theater into the private event space it is now. Then it was back to the bar for one of their signature drinks. Yummy! Archetype tours or master cocktail class are fantastic options for small groups or couples. An old and scandalous movie theater, with so many tales, could aspire to be something great and a bit out of the ordinary. Today we have Archetype, which has taken this scene of urban despair, and embraced so much of where it started. Stripping away the grime, they have exposed such beauty and history, creating a welcome addition for simple gathering or celebrating momentous occasions. With beautiful brick walls, modern lighting, a rustic balcony overlooking the distillery, they have shaped this perfect piece of old with the new. Wait, did I just get to the point? It IS a Distillery! This abandoned building now produces beautiful gin and vodka, with subtle sweetness and the smoothest finish this side of the Atlantic. Thanks to the owners' distilling forefathers, they have brought to us a perfectly crafted spirit that makes a wonderful cocktail or can be sipped on its' own. They complimented their spirits with some inventive cocktails that include jerky, a mist of lavender, and liquid nitrogen for some theatrical effects! All served by the gregarious Simon, our bartender, who truly was the cherry on top. He posseses the quirkiness of Sherlock Holmes, while crafting drinks you didnt know you wanted. What can I say? This places will move you. The grittiness of Denver architecture was captured, bottled, and dispersed. Picture a cathedral. Picture the city in it raw essence. Archetype bottled the best parts of Denver's downtown origins, its open space spirit, it's flavor for nature. Archetype has captured what it tastes like to belong to Denver. Their clean lined bar and cathedral-like open space provides the perfect feeling of an ultra lounge without the Wall Street trying too hard. The bartenders were casual, but not unwelcoming, they were knowledgeable without being know-it-all. I've frequented many distilleries and this wasn't like other distilleries. It was a great hybrid of an upper end bar and hidden gem of a local watering hole. When you think of getting a happy hour refresher and have that "Cheers, everyone knows your name" feeling, Archetype gives that feeling. The bartender Simon, served every drink with panache, style, and a warm smile. He was friendly enough to make me feel like I belonged in the Archetype club, and wanted a lifetime membership. His concoctions were palate pleasing and I knew I shouldn't order more. But I did. The entire staff is jubilant to share their love of vodka and gin with us, the drinking public. I'll preface, I hate gin. I sipped Archetype's gin and fell in love!! After hearing dozens of, "it doesn't take like regular gin" I'd lost hope. I found the gin I never thought I would find!! It was the perfect amount of sweet, lacked the pine cone suck, and had all of the refreshing taste I wanted. The vodka didn't have the Russian circa Cold War burn, and had a hint of sweet. Not overly sweet that it tasted commercial. The vodka and gin are sublime. I've ranted long enough to make my point. This is the perfect place to support a new business that poured (pun intended) their heart and soul into their passion. I can't think of a better place to bring your friend, your beau, yourself and your whistle to wet, than Archetype. read more

Great tasting room & distillery tour. For those who love smoky spirits, you're missing out if you don't try their smoky vodka & smoky gin. I love smoky bourbons & mezcal, and Archetype's smoky gin might be my new favorite. My husband was also impressed with it, so I bought a bottle to take home. Try the JC and the Smoke Em if You Got Em if you like smoky drinks. Both were excellent. We'll be back to try their distillates. Lavender drinks are my next go-to outside of smoky, so I look forward to trying their lavender distillate. Per the bar tender, the lemon distillate is akin to limoncello, so of course, I want to try that as well. Heaven help me if they come up with a spicy chai drink. read more

I really loved it here. We came here on my birthday to try it out and get drinks. The place is really big and open (and frankly EMPTY) but its lovely. Every table was full once we got there so I would just say to the business owner you need to get more tables so you don't loose customers, only about 1/20 of the space is being used and it was packed. Also lower tables would be fantastic so it feels casual, there is some couches over by the entrance which I was jealous we didn't get. The high tops are kind of a nightmare, awkward to sit at and uncomfortable. Something that you want to sit at will keep customers sitting aka getting more drinks!!! Not high tops where you want to run after 10 minutes because you are getting lower back pain and have to do stunts to lean in to talk. The drinks were lovely, drink maker was lovely. Neat place, neat design. I will be back. read more

What a great place to stumble upon! This place has top shelf spirits and the bartender is more than happy to help you make a drink that you will be sure to enjoy. This distillery is located in the old Webber Theater and they did a great job a preserving the building. They offer tours but be sure to check your times on their website so you can gain the full experience. I would highly recommend stopping by and just enjoying one of their sprits. The tour guide was really nice and informative. Drinks were great, we were definitely impressed with that and the service. The only reason I won't give 5 stars is because the owner walked in towards the end of our session and was pretty rude. He barely acknowledge us and then was rude to his employee infront of us, basically telling him he was running over and taking too long. Yet our Groupon said 2-4pm and it was 3:30pm. Regardless as an owner/boss you can't treat your employees like that especially infront of guests. Wouldn't return simply for that fact, owners like that don't deserve our business. read more

In a city with so much truly accomplished distilling going on, these guys missed the mark. They spent a ton of money on buying the building, then a bunch more on renovating it. i don't think anyone on the ownership team ever worked at a bar in Denver until this one. The historic building was a giant old theater, yet the tasting room can only seat about 15 at a short bar, and a few high tops. i was very surprised to see them choose to go with a water bubble wall with LED lights as a design/decor center piece, that kind of thing was cool at a sushi bar in the '80s. There is this amazing exposed brick throughout and a natural arch right behind the bar that would have made an amazing back bar, instead they clumsily put a row of shelves, off center, in front of it. If you go, see for yourselves and wonder, why isn't THAT the bar?? The drinks themselves are syrupy and over zealous, with many bitters, infusions and ploys; like dry ice, novelty shaped ice, cute plastic stir sticks and jerky or gummy bear garnish, deactivated charcoal in my drink sounded good, but feels like drinking pencil shavings. Only gin and vodka. no whiskey They like to 'wink/wink' that the place used to be a adult theater and aren't we witty with the names of the drinks but the names are hard to pronounce, and they all needed explaining by the bar tender who awkwardly hovered over us and interjected himself into our conversation several times. You can go if you want, but i'm gonna call it "kitty liquors" read more

We had an amazing experience at Archetype Distillery. We bought a Groupon for the premium tour. It started off with a tasting of four of the spirits. We did a tour around the facility. The whole facility has a playful nod to the history of the building. Then we ended the tour with a cocktail lesson of three different cocktails. It was an awesome experience. Our host was very knowledgeable, funny, and gave us a tour of the whole place. Me and my friends were visiting denver for the first time, so we were looking for some nightlife activities. An ad for this bar popped up on my friend's Instagram page, it offered a free drink. So she message her email as the ad required. We all did, and then set off to this bar. We go in and go to the bar, the bartender asks if we are apart of the private event they were having, we say no. He tells us the bar has been rented out that night for a private event and to come back next weekend. Now we are of "brown shade", had we been of white shade, he would have never of asked. We live close to this place and have been waiting and waiting to hear news on it's opening. I feel liek it has been under construction for years. While we did have to do some research on the internet before stopping by, we heard that they have been open to the public for a couple weeks now! (Grand opening on Feb 24th). It was a dark and stormy night when we came in but the owner greeted us warmly and all the staff introduced themselves to us. The bartender Simon, was such a character. We really enjoyed him. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us many samples of all the stuff they had going on there. I enjoyed my drink a lot - it was a play on a Gin and Tonic. The tonic had lavender and juniper mixed in with it. And the ice cubes are in the shape of top hats! We were treated with a tiny dish of truffle popcorn and hickory roasted pistachios. I loved the atmosphere of the place - it really makes you feel like you're in an exclusive, high-class club without the absurd prices. They even have small touches that pay homage to the Kitty's South Theatre that was formerly there. The bar was lit up with a bright white light and a marble finish shone through. (is "shone" a word?) There was also this cool bubble waterfall piece behind the bar that I could not stop looking at. It was very entertaining. Reminded me of a lava lamp. I would definitely come back for a second drink, and am very excited for this place to get some exposure. There is even a gallery and event space yet to be rented out.
