I had an appt for a cleaning at 7am, coming from Mesa I'd woken up very early to make it. 30 min before the appt. I was told Madison the hygienist had to cancel, annoyed, but I get it- I rescheduled. When I actually couldn't make that rescheduled appt, I called the day before to reschedule. I was told by the front desk girl that it was too late & I'd be charged a $50 fee. I said, it's the day before & courtesy should be extended to me because this was an appt they rescheduled on me 30 min before. She said matter of fact, sorry we're charging you. I knew the front desk would be unpleasant from then on. I got me a new dentist. I still get a weekly text saying I owe them $50.

I went in there looking like I was dating my cousin and left looking like I'm dating the cast of the Real Housewives of Miami. Dr. Patel is second to none, and he has an amazing staff. Every one of his staff members that I have had any interaction with are great, but the main ones I have had interactions with are Dr. Patel and his assistant Little Jackie, as well as Nicole, the treatment coordinator. She always helps me figure out my life and updates my treatment plan every time I go (finally down to one page). Liz helped me book the appointment that changed my teeth forever. I went in there with a messed-up grill, like I had been chewing on a brick. Dr. came up with an amazing plan to get me back to looking human, and Little Jackie was so kind and showed empathy. She is excellent at her job. She made me feel like she understood what I was going through and it made the whole process so much better. I had some horror-movie type of stuff done, but thanks to the amazing skills of Dr. Patel, I never felt any pain. I have had multiple extractions, root canals, fillings and crowns; no pain at all. My last dentist was so bad. He had a new staff every time I went, and on top of that he put ALL CAPS on my teeth so I couldn't stop yelling ha ha. I was about to give up, but one amazing Saturday morning I woke up with the most excruciating pain in my mouth that my eyebrows were throbbing. It was so bad I laid in the bathtub in the fetal position eating Ibuprofen until Monday morning when I called Dr. Patel's office for the first time. I was a brand-new patient, so I slipped Liz a $100 and she got me in that same day (jk, Liz got me in with no bribe) and Dr. Patel extracted my tooth on the spot. Even though he risked missing his 3:30 p.m. tee time, he put me first (instant relief). I have been a fan ever since. If you ever feel intimidated or nervous, don't worry--Dr. Patel will give you some shots, top-shelf stuff. I just hope he doesn't retire before I'm done with my treatment plan or I'm going to have to finish it in Nogales, Mexico. I used to be a huge fan of the Phoenix Suns and Charles Barkley, Kevin Johnson, Dan Majerle, Cedric Ceballos, Wesley Persons and Mark West, but now I'm a fan of Dr. Patel (BEST), Little Jackie (EXCELLENT), Nicole (skipped my vacation to Puerto Vallarta because she said I owed money for a tooth... dental work is always expensive but for the skill level of Dr. Patel it is very reasonable), Jackie (hygienist, took me 2 months to get an appointment but it was so worth it...she didn't hurt me at all), Liz (first point of contact and helped me get the ball rolling (accepts bribes jk)), and Maria (great assistant, so nice). The office is incredibly modern and the front desk staff is super friendly. The waiting room is spacious and comfortable. A great place to kick back for a few minutes anxiously awaiting copious metal objects being inserted into your mouth. Each time I've walked into an appointment, I've been called back to the office by a hygienist before I even had the chance to sit down in one of their comfy waiting room sofas. All the hygienists are SUPER friendly and do a great job at making you comfortable while they do your cleaning. There are TVs directly above each of the chairs, so you can watch whatever Roku programming that your heart desires as your teeth are worked on. After the hygienists get your teeth clean, Dr. Mitchell pops in to work his magic. In my experience, most dentists will nag you for not flossing for a solid 10 minutes and leave you feeling like your teeth are rotting out of your head if you didn't floss 365 days last year... but not Dr. Mitchell! In all honesty, Dr. Mitchell actually INSPIRED me to start flossing at my appointment last year - not through fear tactics, but by explaining the impact that flossing can have on your teeth over long periods of time. He showed me how to floss correctly, and was candid about how it'll suck for the first few weeks until your gums get acquainted. Turns out that education works a lot better than scolding, because sure enough, when I came back for my annual checkup, I got props from both the hygienist and Dr. Mitchell about how great I was doing. Talk about words of affirmation! Their office also does a lot for their patients from a 'bedside manner' perspective. They offer TONS of incentives for referring new patients (this month they're raffling off a new electric scooter to a lucky winner). After my first visit, they sent me a Harkins Movie Theater gift card just as a 'thank you' for being a patient. Never have I seen anything like that in my life from a customer service standpoint, let alone from a dentist! My wife also goes to Dr. Mitchell right around her birthday every year for her annual checkup/cleaning... and every year they give her a box of Crumbl cookies as a birthday present as she's leaving the office. Somewhat ironic that a dentist gives you sugar filled treats after your teeth cleaning? Yes. Awesome that they go out of their way to do that? Yes! They also offer Invisalign and other services, which I've expressed interest in at previous appointments. They're not remotely pushy about it whatsoever; rather, just educational about whether it would make sense and what the process would look like. While I haven't pulled the trigger yet, when the time comes, I'll definitely be using Dr. Mitchell for my Invisalign. The only negative (if you can call it that) is that when you subscribe to their text messaging reminders, you get bombarded with text messages to confirm and remind you about your appointment. While it's slightly annoying, I realize that I probably need the constant reminders anyway... so I can't even really harp on it. First time in the office, I was impressed by the front area. It's an older looking building but they did a nice job making the front look good. But that is where any updates ended. The bathroom was gross - grime on the sink and toilet. Again, I understand if it's an older building but if you can make the front look nice, you should update the bathroom. The rooms for patients were so small that the hygienist was practically leaning right over the top of me the whole time (as opposed to being comfortably off to the side). It was very awkward and uncomfortable. The hygienist did not do a good job as the current dentist I'm seeing asked if I've received a cleaning in the last two years. I get my teeth cleaned every 6 months. Additionally , Dr Mitchell saw me a maximum of 2 minutes. My kids also had appointments and my 11 year old son had a dark spot on an adult tooth in the back. I could see it clear as day. When I asked about it, they said it wasn't a cavity. Took him to a new dentist 6 months later and it's a cavity and has been this whole time because decay has spread to the next tooth. Unfortunately you can't trust online reviews when there are incentives given. I learned the hard way.

It was literally the most thorough dental exam I've ever had, with digital X-rays (including the panos that my last dentist didn't do), CT scans if needed, lots of photos, a tooth-by-tooth evaluation, oral cancer screening, even looking at mobility, jaw movement, etc. (Finally my knowledge of the sternocleidomastoid muscle comes in handy.) Dr. Pappas even pointed out something I'd brought up to a different dentist years ago and had completely forgotten about. He's also very transparent about whether a treatment can wait or needs to be done right away. The hygienist I had was also very thorough, so I definitely felt like I was in good hands all around. I switched here after a decade at a different dental clinic that had been cutting a lot of corners. As someone without specialized knowledge, navigating dental care can be frustrating and time-consuming. I find it so frustrating--as someone with no real knowledge of dentistry--when I feel like I to have to spend time attempting to research what dentists or other doctors should be doing so I can make sure they actually do it, or to figure out what to do about pain or issues they dismiss or tell me to ignore. We all have enough things to worry about without trying to become amateur dental or medical researchers. So it's a breath of fresh air to go somewhere like Arcadia Dental Arts where I can just kick back and relax knowing they're covering all the bases. Overall, I am very grateful for the kind office manager who was patient to talk me through the many, many steps of my implant process. She is also very helpful in fighting the insurance to lower overall costs.
