The food was good, service was fast. We went through the drive thru and got 2 meals. The food was hot and the wait time was minimal.

Review Visit: May 12th, 2015…read more I'm still salty about this place. Why am I salty about Freddy's? It's not that I had bad service or anything like that. It's just all that I could taste when I ate my food. I wasn't even sure if I was going to visit Freddy's since it is more of a chain than a locally-owned place and the latter is more of my focus for my Travel List. It's a small chain with rare locations for my area, so I figured "why not". Freddy's was unique yet all-too-familiar upon entering. It's your standard fast food eatery where you place your order at the counter and wait for it to be brought to your table or you pick it up at the counter. My girlfriend and I were rather hungry, so we ordered a lot of food. Something that can be a bit risky if it's a new place that neither of you have been to. I ordered a burger, a hot dog and some fries. The fries are just like the ones you get at Steak N Shake. Actually, if you took S'n'S, made it red/white themed and made it more fast food orientated, you would have Freddy's. We wasted no time chowing down the food. I ate the hot dog first and it was okay. It was good but the flavor was a bit overpowered by the salt in the dog, bread, and toppings. Then I moved on to the burger (while munching on the fries in-between everything). The fries themselves, I hated. They were good on their own as most french fries are. Its just something about thin-cut fries that makes me angry. Drop some normal-sized fries or steakhouse fries in front of me and you have a happy blogger. But, that's just a personal preference. Again, the fries themselves were fine despite their lack of size. Where was I? Oh. The burger. The burger suffered the same fate as the hot dog. It was pure salt. It's as if they took the salt they normally sprinkle on the fries and sprinkled it on the burger and dog instead. This lead to some mild discomfort after the meal, if you can imagine that. The bloat was real. For it being a simple combo meal, it was alright when it came to the value. A simple burger, a hot dog, fries, and a drink should fill most everyone up. They have other combo meals should you not be a fan of hot dogs or burgers. I would visit a Freddy's again if I was with someone who had never been before. I'm always for second chances. I would make sure to get a water with my meal to help my body deal with the potential sodium overload that was being cooked for me.

Errionna was great when we ordered, but it ended there. 2 of the 6 orders were incomplete and this is the coldest restaurant in America. it 65 degrees outside and 55 degrees in here. we wanted to eat in the restaurant, but we had to sack it up and take it home. Brrrrr

Since the creator, Dick Portillo is a north sider, they favor giardiniera on the beef rather than sweet green peppers like old school southsiders in Chicago do. Plus my request for a little red sauce on top, which really puzzled the cashier, so I had to explain it's like marinara, was a no go. They don't have any. I had to do a count down with the guy making the sandwich to get a proper submerge for the dip so it would be wet. BTW, you have no idea how that red sauce will make a beef sandwich sing! The Chicago dog was well prepared, but the bottom of the bun opened up about 3/4 of the way thru eating it, so had to really work at not losing the rest of the dog and the toppings all over the plate. A bit of a battle ensued. While everything was okay, the beef especially didn't have nearly the amount of flavor you'd get at a mom n pop joint in Chicago, which are everywhere. I guess when you can't get the Real thing, beggers can't be choosers.

It is a classic diner and it could be really great. Mr. Bee had the hot dog, and I chose a diner classic, grilled cheese. The hot dog was good and fine. My grilled cheese was a typical diner sandwich. It was toasted and crunchy on the outside and the cheese was perfectly melted. The onion rings were nothing special, more like frozen and fried. It was nostalgic to eat lunch here, and fun to see the memorabilia. Where it could be great, we walked up to the counter to order and the young man who took our order didn't want to be there. He was not friendly, not a smile or a thank you. The tables had not been wiped down, so we chose the least sticky one of them we could find. I expect more for places along Route 66. Make it a fun and memorable experience, and this was not that. We did have other great spots along the way.

We ordered two cozy dogs or corn dogs, two chili cheese, dogs, and a double cheeseburger. My wife really liked the corn dogs and the chili dog. I thought the corn dog was just okay. I thought the chili cheese dog was outstanding! The hamburger had a weird sort of taste that I have never experienced before. My wife picked up on that instantly. She had one bite and refused to eat any more of it. It was very strange. We enjoyed the history of the place in the story of the artist, Bob Waldmire. I purchased his Route 66 map artwork. It's a true treasure.
