The second you walk in, you immediately smell the real hardwood lump charcoal they've been grilling over since they first started in the late 1920s, and you can actually watch them cook your food to order (which I love). The place oozes a casual backyard BBQ energy, and it feels like an old school Buffalo institution that might no longer be in its heyday, but it clearly still has a hardcore group of local fans. It was confusing as first time diners to figure out how it all works. First, you go in and place your order with the person behind the grill. The nice lady immediately started grilling our meats. Next comes the toppings that can be customized, and then any additional side orders. You pay, get your food, and seat yourself. The dining room is clean but delightfully frozen in time, looking very late-'70s retro in a way that feels exactly right. The seating is old, dingy, and uncomfortable, so this isn't a restaurant where you'd want to sit and linger. Food-wise, this is definitely a spot for beef and sausage lovers. If you're not into that, fair warning: my grilled chicken was pretty mediocre and mostly just tasted like charcoal (which some people might love, but it wasn't doing much for me). The flavor was exactly like what I'd eat when my Uncle would break out the charcoal grill in the backyard during my childhood. The smell and taste brought back pleasant memories, but I guess I'm so used to gas grills or wood grills now that charcoal seems so dated. Meanwhile, my husband's sausage on a bun absolutely stole the show. His was loaded with grilled onions, juicy, smoky, and genuinely drool-worthy. I was a little jealous just looking at it. If you eat sausages, I would recommend ordering that here. There's not a lot for non-red meat eaters, and certainly this isn't the place for vegetarians! Despite my disappointing chicken breast, there were plenty of wins. The buns were especially soft and delicious, and I loved the fresh leaf lettuce and tomato on my sandwich. The produce tasted fresh and bright and wasn't wilted at all, which genuinely surprised me. We split the half-and-half side (which was half fries and half onion rings). The fries were nothing noteworthy, but the onion rings were the real star. Get those crispy, flavorful rings and thank me later! Also, shoutout to the two free pickles on the side, which is a small touch that equalled big happiness. There's also a self-serve soda fountain with free refills of Pepsi products! I'm glad I spotted Ted's and decided to stop in. I couldn't resist the old school exterior, and I can see why this continues to stay in business (despite it not being crowded at all the night we dined there). It might not be the best pick if you're avoiding beef or sausage, but it's still a fun, very Buffalo place to try. Between the smoky grill, the retro atmosphere, and those killer onion rings, it feels like a local rite of passage. I'm glad we did it.

Secondly, white rice is ordered separately: It is not included in the cost of the dish. The owner handily takes orders (table service as we were alone and I was senior to her); the chef had my order on the table in just five minutes!! Lamb with cumin: Absolutely delicious! The side of rice was just the right degree of sticky to absorb the lamb juices! I plan to stop here every time I shop for groceries at the Asian Market (it's right around the corner).

So, when in the area recently I did…read moresome research and this place came up as being probably the most authentic in the Buffalo and Niagara areas, so I went for lunch. Sure enough, their menu is legit, filled with many of the recognizable delicacies you won't find at the ordinary Chinese-American joints. Entering the place is odd, they have a weather barrier (those plastic slats) hanging from the door after you open the glass door - very odd placement of them. Inside is rather small and simple, not decorated much, it's truly a carry-out place that provides table service too. Service was decent, far from fancy. I decided to try their cumin beef and an order of scallion pancakes. The cumin beef came out first and though I asked for it to be spicy, it most definitely was very mild. The flavor was a little bland overall and this is typically a dry-wok'd type of stir fry with more oil and less sauce, but mine was slightly saucy and lacking flavor completely. The scallion pancakes looked and tasted decent. Perhaps if I ordered something different I would have enjoyed the food more. I still recommend stopping in if you're seeking authentic Chinese, I'm sure they have some great dishes here.

The protein choices are: 4 flavors of chicken, 2 flavors of tri-tip steak, Korean BBQ pork or tofu. The protein is served on purple rice with a side of Cole slaw. For our additional sides( choices were sweet potatoes, rosemary potatoes, Brussels sprouts, mac and cheese. I picked both of the potato sides. The Cole slaw seemed watery, and the steak, which had nice flavor, was a bit chewy. I think tri-tip tends to be tougher as it has little or no fat on it. The potatoes and rice were nice and flavorful. I have had very good bowl meals here in the past. I think the bowls, with more ingredients served together, is a better flavor boost than "the Box".

When Blaze first opened this location, we were excited to try it and it did not disappoint. The…read moreservice was fast and efficient, and the pizza was excellent. Unfortunately, something has changed over the past two years, and this location has noticeably declined. The service is now slow and inattentive. Employees tend to ignore customers waiting in line, moving without any sense of urgency and appearing unsure of their responsibilities. On my most recent visit, I brought a friend who had never been to Blaze. We arrived shortly after opening to find only two customers ahead of us. Despite the light traffic, employees walked around flattening dough and looking lost, with no one stepping up to take orders. After several minutes, a young woman finally approached and got us started. They completed the orders for the two customers ahead of us, then shifted to what appeared to be online orders, leaving us waiting again. When they eventually got to us, one employee worked carefully and methodically -- the pizzas were well-made -- but the pace was very slow. I then stood at the register for several more minutes before anyone came to take payment. Throughout the entire visit, the overall impression was that in-person customers are simply not a priority. The pizza itself was delicious, though our two orders came out separately despite being made back-to-back. The dining area also needs attention. There is debris collected in the corners and food crumbs left on the chairs. I did notice they finally fixed the giant tear in one of the booth cushions. That was an improvement over my last visit. Blaze makes a great product, but the experience at this location needs significant improvement. I am sad to say this will likely be my last visit.

Yes it isn't the local favorite but when you are craving a personal pizza with everything you love, this is the place to go. From a variety of sauces and a huge array of toppings, you have so many things to choose for your perfect pie. The vibes in here are definitely minimalist. It feels very industrial and upscale at the same time. The staff is always friendly whenever I have been which is a good sign. Overall, I am a Buffalo pizza kinda guy but Blaze is great for a quick lunch or dinner when the family can't decide what we want on our pizza. We can go here and everyone is happy.
